    I have a name that is hard to pronounce. It has given me the opportunity to have great communication and social skills because I either have to spell or pronounce it for everyone. It has also given me patience with others. I’m used to it now, and I like my name! Also, once someone learns my name they remember it forever. Whereas, if someone had a more common name I’m likely to forget it. 😬 I also don’t know how my name would rate on the academic predictors, but I did excellent in school and college. 🤷‍♀️ I find when someone has an unusual name if you go out of your way to learn it you’ve earned yourself some respect from that person.

    I know a couple that was going through a a really chaotic time in their life and named their child KAHOS! I can't imagine embarking in life with that name. That is a curse.

      Or it's an opportunity.. I've always hated my name.. Because people called me Ed people always assumed it was Edward.. Its not.. I put the Grrrrrr in Edgar Baby.. I've picked up many a women with that cute little line.. Just sayin. Though I hated my name. I found a way to make it work for me. As could Kahos.. If your in a club and you meet Kahos,2 Steve's, Bill and 3 Keiths... Who stands out? Maybe not necessarily a curse.

    I knew a woman named Rechal. Her parents wanted to mix up “Rachel”. And they did. She was very frustrated by no one being able to spell her name.

      I am sure as this lunatic said it can be looked on the social security database. Also the speaker said Stephen not Steven... not even a different spelling like mentioned... it is an entirely different name. This presenter was an arrogant moron... but at least offered how you could research this information- rather than attempting to make a clever comment... but failing... critically failing.

    Intresting talk, although I'm not sure about how she says she can deduce all these things about parents from looking at the names of their children, especially when it comes to politics. That seems just a bit of a stretch to me. I would like to examine that research she speaks of.

    • @onee
      @onee 3 роки тому +11

      In the US some states share things like a voter registry that contains names. You can see who is registered at which party. If you take that data and use it to do research on, you can come to such conclusions. Or she might've surveyed people.

    • @KTR2022
      @KTR2022 3 роки тому +23

      We've actually been doing that for thousands of years, you know. Every name belongs to a certain culture and then expands when people start adopting them,. Monica and Aisha are both arabic; Jasmine is Persian; Even names commonly seen such as Isaac (Itzhak), Rebecca (Rivqah), Daniel (Daniyel) are, in fact, Jewish. I personally think this is not bad, I'm Portuguese and the English royalty actually introduced two names here, Filipa (Phillipa) and Duarte (Edward), many centuries ago. It's only a matter of time till europeans start naming their kids Anwar or Shanti, that is, if the country's legislation so allows.

      i agree! why are so many white americans trying to be so unique by taking names from a culture/country that they’ve never been to or studied the language of. it’s quite weird now ur child will grow up being asked “are you french” when having a french pronounced name.

    Does anybody know and help me provide the link of it, I forgot it as it should be my evidence to present as why I want to change my first name, the study and a scientific evidence that the parents should be the only deciding on naming their child, not the grandparents, I was a victim of grand parents will of naming there son's/daughter's child, that quoted it in bibles name, I know there is a scientific bases and psychological effect on the way who names a baby, I just couldn't search it.. I would really wanted to know who was the philosopher behind it,

    I think she'd get me quite wrong. I did well in school despite being a Tiffany. Although my daughter has a Latin name that was used in the Medieval period, it is now more associated with Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian-speaking countries. My son is named Caspian, which you could argue is made up, but I have a MA degree from a good school. Also, nickname names are not as popular in the US as in the UK. They're still seen as appearing juvenile. So although some, like Jack, Harry, Charlie, Lola, etc. may be rising in popularity to some degree, I've never heard of or met an American Albie or Alfie. All of my peer group have given their kids proper names.
