Great video again Nino, I think she should be called Helga a tough dependable old bird who is a little rough around the edges. Glad you have got her fixed, the V8 is going to be a lot of work but if you feel confident go for it. I drove a turbocharged Lada once all looked standard and left a Renault 5 GT turbo for dead. the owner was most upset... Ha..Ha....
Hi! I had the same car with the same 2 issues. The long ignition start was caused by a failed Bosch pump and bad acceleration was caused by a mass airflow sensor.
Yer another entertaining video Nino, your definitely learning as you go along. I'd just get two second hand wings and the CV boot done before taking it for an mot though.
Hi,I've been watching you from the start I feel your pain I have an r56 cooper s as soon as you have conquered one problem another is getting started and you do wonder where it ends sometimes, but it's all part of the fun ha ha keep at it.
I hate this, I am sick of doing exactly the same research and tests and buying parts and being depressed by it. If I never read about an n75 valve again and replacing sensors, I'll be super happy. Bought a B7 passat recently though the odds are good it'll have a different numerical designation. I think I just enjoy watching you go through the pain I did.
I have an 4.2 V8 A8 2003. And I do believe they're made to run forever. But no one mentioned in time that they tend to go wrong, and are tight to get to all sort of parts. But marching forward! 🤣🤣
Check the hoses on the injectors.they can perish and allow air in which causes starting problems.Had a jeep Cherokee which was a pig to start and replaced the hoses on injectors and it then started on the button.
I think you should call the Audi Penny and that's my Mrs name and it's her birthday next week, hope you enjoy the beer. Wonder if these also suffer from carbon build up in the inlet manifold as that can cause low power
I bought a light cleaning kit from Asda as I just spotted it in passing and knew the lights needed doing on my Mini. It did a pretty good job but the abrasive pads that came with it could only be used by hand so it took ages, I’d have bought that kit instead if I’d seen it prior to watching your vid.
At 6:33 sounds like a...what's it called, rocker? The camshafts can run in and rockers can go flying into your heads. Sounded like exactly that happening. I once drove one with 3 rockers missing in their spots but the engine sounded normal. Missed some of it's power though. Didn't really smoke. Concerning the brakes, if people don't do brakefluid changes reguarly, the brake calipers can seize up. The Aluminium corrodes and exerts a lot of pressure on the sealing ring around the piston which locks it in place. Had this multiple times on the HP2 and ATE57 and 54 brake calipers. I just recently rebuilt every brake caliper on our A3 8L because of the same problem. 4 years without brakefluid change. The rubber boot on the cv joint being defective always compromises the integrity of the cv joint. And since it is the same amount of work changing just the boot, I always do the whole cv joint. Don't want to be going through the 1 1/2 hours of work just to do it again as soon as you go in full steering lock and accelerate hearing creaking or grinding noises. If you feel play while turning the axle shaft it already is a goner. And you hear wheelbearings long before you feel anything.
How sure are you that the horrible clunking noise is a rocker? I’ve removed the rocker cover and I’m looking at the camshafts and I can’t see any obviously broken rockers. To be fair, I can’t see them all, but there aren’t any pieces of metal laying around in the top of the cylinder head…
@@NotEconomicallyViable You should be able to see them all, albeit a little difficult. Let's say I'm 60% sure, because there are many things which can create such a sound. If you have no smoke while driving and reach 210 rather comfortably, then everything is fine.

With such a slow vacuum leak, the problem is probably a pin hole in the actuator diaphragm. Vacuum actuated turbos (VNT - variable vane types) can suffer the same fate and can be tested the same way. Car name: "Beertha" a traditional German name and you were drinking beer whilst sitting in her! 😂
@@NotEconomicallyViable Yeah mate. Especially the AKE engine you have is notoriously known for the camshaft failure, because it was one of the first engine revisions of the 2.5 TDI. So the oil change will definitely do good for the engine
Audi designs it’s cars to maximise labour charge at the dealer. Compare to working on a VW. Same holding company: Audi makes money on servicing, VW makes money on volume.
Well budy 4.2 v8 sounds good, but if you will be thinking about tuning that engine don't do it. Becouse v8 has very high compression ratio. same goes to 3.2 v6 fsi engine really high compression ratio. Here's Compression Ratio : 12.5 for 4.2 v8 fsi edit: i would go for 4.2 v8 tdi engine.

Haha I like it
With such a slow vacuum leak, the problem is probably a pin hole in the actuator diaphragm. Vacuum actuated turbos (VNT - variable vane types) can suffer the same fate and can be tested the same way.
Car name: "Beertha" a traditional German name and you were drinking beer whilst sitting in her! 😂
agreed!
Thanks for that bud - I'll test the VNT too 👍🏻 Beertha is a solid name lol
Hildegard,Hilde between family members :)
Commenting, as I am watching. I think an intake air leak on a diesel car = black smoke

Name suggestion "Maffia"?
Name her Angela, after Merkel, an old German with a lot of power who looked good but a little worn around the edges for her age
This is the one 👌
Haha I love this suggestion
a solid german quattro, how about "Hilda"
How about Brunhilda as a name for the old german barge ?
U r totally addictive
A nice thing for the engine would be fresh oil, especially because this thing has questionable maintenance history. Will definitely help the engine
Yeah definitely. Apparently this engine can have problems with the cams failing, but can be kept at bay with regular oil changes...
@@NotEconomicallyViable Yeah mate. Especially the AKE engine you have is notoriously known for the camshaft failure, because it was one of the first engine revisions of the 2.5 TDI. So the oil change will definitely do good for the engine
Audrey the Audi 😀👍
Audi-drey (Audrey) or Belching Betty. Sorry being greedy, sent two.
Haha I like them both
Avant Lavigne 😉
Haha
Audi car name suggestion: Arianna (air e anna) as in the car runs better after repairing the Air Flow sensor.
Haha great suggestion
Blue streak
If it was glow plugs it would take a lot longer to start
She looks like a Helga to me tbh. 👍🏻😁
How about Han's Blowpipe.
Suzie the Quattro 👍
Audi designs it’s cars to maximise labour charge at the dealer. Compare to working on a VW. Same holding company: Audi makes money on servicing, VW makes money on volume.
Annelise ? Big, German, tank. Crews often named tanks this during the war.
great shout
Her name may I suggest would be nice as Audrey the Audi old name for the beauty
Alice the Audi
Well budy 4.2 v8 sounds good, but if you will be thinking about tuning that engine don't do it. Becouse v8 has very high compression ratio. same goes to 3.2 v6 fsi engine really high compression ratio. Here's Compression Ratio : 12.5 for 4.2 v8 fsi
edit: i would go for 4.2 v8 tdi engine.
4.2 V8 TDi in this would be amazing
....only one possible name springs to mind : " Dudy" as in "Audi Dudy" 😱.
