Understanding Yarra Bay Artificial Reef and its Surrounds to SUCCESSFULLY Catch FISH! Botany Bay NSW

- In this video you will see exactly where I catch quality table fish around La Perouse which is the eastern side of Yarra Bay in Botany Bay. And I’ll show you exactly how I do it too!
I decided to do a bit of an overview of Yarra Bay and the surrounding areas since I haven’t really fished there lately. Any area with an artificial reef can really produce good quality fish if you know how to locate it and read its surrounds.
Fortunately this artificial reef is situated on a bit of a high bank which fades off into a semi funnel of deep water. You can find the GPS coordinates by searching for it on google quite easily and should always be your starting point when fishing this area. Both shallow and deep will produce fish at different times and it pays to sound out and test these areas until you find where the fish are holding.
La Perouse is a seldom spoke about fishing haven, it too has an artificial reef east of Bare Island however it has never produced anything good for me yet.

Thanks for the lizars Mell Mallachi was thrilled to meet you.
Mel’s mum watching this episode saying “few more for the swear jar” “I told her to take a bloody jacket”.
Hahah great video as always thanks Mel
😂 the swear jar is “missing”
As usual Mel, great video not only you catching the fish but your tuition as well, I’ve told my 11 year old grandson who loves fishing to watch your videos and learn how you do things, like weight size and not to be scared to change things around, keep up the good work Mel, you’re an inspiration to young and old, thank you
Yum...flounder! 25cm and a b/l of 20. A light fry in some Tandaco lightly seasoned fish mix (whole fish), eat down to the frame, remove the frame and eat down to the plate. Delicious. 🧑🍳👌
On ya Mel, that hook set never gets old 😂😂 love ya work
Best feeling ☺️
Solitary fisho! Luv it!
Yet another good video from you, love watching your content very educational and thanks for sharing. Ps (we used to call the Sgt Baker "Mother-in-law" fish) Tight lines Mel
Thanks Graeme! Glad you enjoy ☺️ PS you have won the Uncle Vinny’s giveaway! Congratulations 🥂 please get in contact with me via FB or email and I’ll send out your lures!
😂 mother in law fish! That’s not nice but they are a tasty and boney fish!
Flounder… one of my favourite eating fish. Requires a little effort but I fillet them, coat with flour, season with salt and pepper and shallow fry. I totally agree with use of spot lock for anchor. Entertaining & educational as always. Thanks for sharing.
Another awesome day on the Bay for you Mel. Keep it up. Love your channel
Awesome session 👏 hope you had time for a nap
Always look forward to your videos! Give me inspiration to get out there!

Flounder, magic carpet. That made me laugh.
Oie, sit back n relax✅I think that floating contraption my be a mooring lifter service rig, but I can’t focus at the moment, awaiting your trevalley ally and Artoffical reef bites, loving ya honesty ,
I had a great day there!
When I started pulling up kings they swarmed in closer.
Great session Mel
Thanks for another video Mel 👍
Great video and very entertaining 👌 only commenting for the algorithm not give a ways.
Cheers Sleepy
Hi Mel I think the flathead you referred to as a tiger is actually a bar-tailed flathead love your videos keep up the great work
Yeah you are right 👍🏽
Mel...where's your lifejacket...???
The way you move around and stand on the seat sometimes, you could slip and hit your head...ONLY a lifejacket will save you...also maybe an EPIRB when outside the heads...Cheers...
No life jacket sorry. I have a epirb
i took the fam out on Sunday but had to stick around the opening to the georges river because the wife and kids get scared from the smallest chop
Good work Mel do you know you can turn off your trails you don't have to delete them haha sorry had to put that in 😂😂😂😂
Keep the magic carpet + the best
great catch
Hopefully I will go tomorrow to catch some flaty as well
Wayne would love to go out to try out his new rod and reel.
Hi Mel! Is it possible to use a conventional anchor to fish the yarra bay artificial reef?
When I didn’t have an anchor I used to keep a reef anchor head in my boat with a U bolt for the artificial reef and also for tugs. Using a sand anchor could get snagged but if you have both you can quickly change the anchor over when you fish reefs 👍🏽

hey Mel do you bleed the flounders?
Yes I bleed everything when I finish the session
Sole not flounder, a bit gooey but delicious fish A grade tucker . Love the show cheers
Any reason you use kyeegmah ramp instead of port botany? Kyeegmah is a good ramp I’ve never put in at foreshore dr but is a lot closer to the areas you fish
I hate the crowds and agro vibe there it’s just way calmer at Kyeemagh.
@@spikesfishing fair enough pretty much same reason for me
Yep 👍🏽
Are you allow to use anchor there?
Most boats that fish there are on anchor and I just did a google search for no anchor zones in Botany. There are a few spots where you can’t anchor I didn’t know about so yeah maybe have a look at the map online and it will help 👌🏽
@@spikesfishing theres a few nice spot i know that you cant anchor up... love the 1hour video. thankyou for upoading
I’m going tomorrow 😂
Fish don't like sunscreen rub some scent on your hands after keep up the good work 🎉
Not wrong, I wash my hands 🙌🏽
Hey I’m will have you seen my dads other message?
Yeah
