- A squid a cast in Kurnell this morning, with a great opportunity to show how I target and jig for squid / calamari in Botany Bay - specifically Kurnell. It is a great area to learn how to work a squid jig and then easily move out to other areas of the water and refine your technique.
During lunch I realised there were a few Flathead around, keep an eye out for more on this area in the coming weeks.

Hey Les and Jenny! Congrats on your first boat 🎉 I trust it will serve you well. For crabs I usually find a nice sandy spot off south Brighton Le sands or off Kurnell, depth 3-4m and the sand needs to be surrounded by weed.
For squid I go near the moored boats in Kurnell in about 3-4m just near the ferry terminal construction. I hope this helps ♥️🎣

Have you fished Bate Bay launching from Port Hacking? Merries reef, Jibbon bomby , etc. Smoother waters than Kurnell lighthausen since the backwash from cliffs usually makes for a jiggy sea. Fish always on clean sand or gravel bottom near the hard reef for quality fish with steady barley trail going. As a rule if you're catching red rockies, sargent bakers , wrasse.....move and reposition off the reef. Use the minimum lead (floaters) the current allows.

I think what you drag up from the bottom of ocean at times is more appealing than the views on the NOODIE beaches!
Regarding the video, good work on the Squid front .. they can be frustrating when they are not on, you certainly found a nice patch of the though!

Great vid Mel. I try and fish for squid at the noodie when I’m out that way. I find I need to be extra careful sometimes when jigging if you know what I mean 😉. Don’t want to hook up any surprises😂. Haven’t dropped a bait down there yet. I may give it a try next time.

Good sesh, always great when you get a feed of crabs and don’t even drop a net 😂. Good to see the snapper rod replaced too, then nearly lose the squid rod. Be gentle with your toys Mel (bet you used to beat up your teddy as a kid)

Hi Mel the spearo who went into the water with all those boats around is irresponsible to say the least putting him/ her self in a very dangerous situation and other boaters my gosh the spearo could of went anywhere else to do that , yes there is a distance to remain away from divers , off hand cant remember the distance but it would be up on the fisheries waterways web page when looking up the rules on spear fishing , why people do the darndest things to get into trouble or put themselves in a predicament and or other people just amazes me , love your videos keep them coming enjoy your day out when on the water if it is possible lol tight lines. 👍
Years ago you could sneak up under wharf at night. I think if you were quiet the guys up top would turn a blind eye. You'd get told to pis off at worst.

I think you might be thinking of it being illegal to sell your catch .
