💎 As someone who lives in Boston having the card is a no brainer, the csr lounge at logan is easily the best lounge I've stayed in state side and I travel 4-5 times a year
CSR is my workhorse. Besides utilities, travel and dinning are my biggest spend. So this is well worth it. No real complaints. I used the high end hotel many a time during pandemic (safely) and got great value. Not as strong now, but still good to compare. I’ve transferred to partners and booked thru Chase. Both good experience. Not if u book thru Chase, even using points, u will still get points from the hotel/airlines. So for example, u can get 1.5 c chase value booking SWA. Then SWA still gives u points for the trip (in SWA points) as they r getting paid cash from Chase. Not saying this is best ever value, but nice little bonus. Personally I don’t see value in lounges. Yes, I’ve used a few, but meh. If u have. A layover or need to work, totally get it. Want a beer and snack, I’d rather bind airport bar that’s a more lively.
No one realizes how good the flight cancellation/delay insurance is. Unlike Amex platinum, it doesn’t require you to put the entire roundtrip flight on the card (just a portion of it is ok), and does not require you to put the reimbursed expenses on the card. You can use other cards to pay for other expenses and still get reimbursed. The limit is also so much higher than the Platinum.
I love the CSR. I'm flying to ATL from JFK this weekend and I'll be visiting the Sapphire lounge at JFK and the Sam Adams Ale House at ATL. The 3X on the taxes portion of a points transfer and the fact that the travel insurances also kick in when only paying for the taxes is great.
Yes I still get value from the Chase Sapphire Reserve card. Speaking of the CDW for the CSR, I take advantage of the status and upgrade benefits with my Amex Platinum cards when I book rental cars but I use the CSR for payment for the Primary CDW benefit. It works for me every time. Thank you for the information. Keep up the good work. 👍🏿✌️
Great video as always! One other perk of the Sapphire cards that is worth mentioning, though I know you've covered it previously, is the ability to merge points from the Freedom Flex/Unlimited to your CSR/CSP..
The CSR is one of the few cards that has never left my wallet. I prefer Lyft to Uber, and the 7x return is awesome. With a Chase Lounge coming to PHL I am excited to try it out. The Centurion Lounge is terrific but often has a waiting line. 💎
I've added the CSR and Venture X in the past 3 months. For my household, The Venture X was a Zero Authorized User Priority Pass, The CSR has been the best when I - I needed a Marriott/Hilton booking and Delta Tickets booked without worrying bout blackout dates or partner award availability.
💎 it hard for me to get rid of the CSR because I get so much value from it. The transfer partners, the lounges and the ability to combine points is hard to beat.
60K UR point is just too small for a SUB when you have Venture X with a lower annual fee to compete. I think Chase need to update this card to provide more value to justify a $550 annual fee.
I’m a frequent Philly business traveler and I’m so excited about the sapphire lounge. It’s going to help with crowding in the centurion lounge and just be a great space overall.
Activating PP on the RC Visa seems to be well hidden though. I'm still trying to find how to do so in case I'm bringing more guests or downgrade my CSR, and the initial response I got from Chase secure messaging wasn't helpful.
I fly out of Baltimore and having restaurant PP will be great. I also used the card to pay for parking, my client reimbursed me but I also got the $27 back from Chase.
💎 This was my default card and even the occasional 1.5x from the Apple Shop was enough for me. I plan to keep it now for its travel partners but my primary everyday card is my CFU.
The Sapphire Reserve has been my go to card for close to a decade. It's a perfect everyday card that racks up points easily. Great travel benefits too especially PP 🙂
Agreed. Doordash is the only one I use but I value it at about $50 which helps. It's interesting how people typically present ALL the Amex Platinum credits as first class credits so to speak, while the CSR travel credit is often presented as the only first class credit and all the others are considered second class credits which are often barely mentioned. Sure, they're not useful for everyone but the same can be said about half the Amex Platinum credits. IMO the CSR shouldn't be an assumed $250 EAF, it should be estimated by factoring all the credits, just like you would with the Amex Platinum (or others).
Thank I got back to sapphire due to new lounges and I plan to cancel my amex platinum since many of those benefits I don’t use and not really practical. The reason why I choose it in beginning was mainly airport lounges and 2 free guest and now that taken away for 2 free guest unless you spend 75k a year. Since capital one and sapphire lounge popping up, I came back to this card and useful $300 credit and ultimate reward points which I use in combination of my business inks cards which produces significant ultimate rewards! Thank you Sebby!
💎 I got the CSP as my first major card out of school (and after watching and reading all of your reviews). I do qualify for another bonus because it has been so long 👀 but overall I think it's a keeper card, easy to use, and great to get value out of. Sure there's nicer things out there but more hurdles to jump through.
$250 effective annual fee is hard to justify for just restaurants in priority pass and lounge access. Platinum and Venture X get you positive value. Chase/Instacart $15/mo credit ends in July. Maybe a new credit can replace and make it worthwhile. Until then Idk
What do you mean positive value? CSR isn't the kind of card to just keep in a sock drawer and use for lounge accesses, etc. It's the best way to utilize any Chase points you get
Hello Sebby!!! I am so glad to find you. You were recommended to me by UA-camr "30 And A Wake Up." I've liked and subscribed and consuming as many of your videos as I can. You do a great job and thank you for your efforts!
Sebby great content, very informative. One question though, with the CSR getting rid of the priority pass restaurant benefit as of July 1, 2024. Do you still think it justifies the annual fee ?
💎 We have a CSR w/ AF and we love it! Used it to pay for our wedding and got the SUB and multipliers (for some reason our venue coded for dining, so 3x on it all + the SUB) and the points paid for our roundtrip Delta One flight to Latin America and our Hyatt Regency stay for our honeymoon. It’s also given us some Hyatt transfers as well. On Saturday we used Chase Dining with points for an expensive fancy tasting menu and Hyatt stay as a “Babymoon” as we’re due on March 31. Now, we’re wondering if we should downgrade for the year with the baby coming; travel will be limited and that AF is $625 with the AF. My wife is primary with two other Chase cards and a biz checking account, so I wonder if Chase would offer a statement credit or retention bonus to offset the AF if we keep it? Worth a try, I suppose?
Whats it going to take for chase to finally offer gas or groceries, especially with these sapphire cards costing $250, or $45 for preferred, annual fee
💎 I just started my journey towards the Chase trifecta by getting the Freedom Unlimited. The Freedom Flex will be next in line. I live just 50 miles north of Boston, so I would love to be able to take advantage of the Sapphire lounge there, but realistically, I'm probably going to have to complete the trifecta with the Sapphire Preferred for now and hope I can work my way to the Reserve in the future.
You also get 7% on chase freedom and chase Flex. Both cards are free. You need no tricks for the widely accepted travel credit. Trip cancel benefits no problem.
The 1.5+ is the champ. September flight from ATL to JFK was a night nightmare to find an award booking for the days and times. However, the 1.5 covered the flight tickets and pretty much set our effective fee to zero, before any Lyft/Instacart benefits. Like Seby said, the 1.5 floor when you are busy and juggling multiple corporate work schedules and PTO requests is one less thing to worry about.
Just curious, why didn’t you mention the emergency Medical and Dental Benefit? Isn’t this $2,500 cover and $50 deductible a “superpower” not offer much on other credit cards?
💎 PDX is my home airport. So one of us will always carry the CSR. But I am thinking of eventually getting the Ritz card through upgrade. So in a year I may cancel the CSR for that card as I believe it has the same lounge benefits, including Sapphire lounges.
💎 I fly back-and-forth from Tampa, Florida to Grand Rapids Michigan all the time, so I’m looking forward to this card saving me money long-term by using the points system.
I think you described it perfectly. Its not fanciest or most popular travel card out there, but it sure does work great for those who dont want to fool with transfer partners or award availability. I might eventually product change my CSP to a CSR. Im sttill weighing the pros & cons between the AmEx plat vs Cap1 VX vs CSR for my high end travel card.
If you decide to handle both SUBs separately, the VX and CSR are both great to have. The VX pays for itself if you book through their portal once a year, so the travel credit and 10k anniversary pts cancel out the annual fee. I use the VX as my “non-category” everyday spend, like clothes or stuff I can’t get bonuses on anywhere else, but still get 2x miles. CSR is my travel and dining card. Though I’ve also leaned into Savor to compliment the VX, point is you can def have VX and CSR and still have them for separate uses and no overlap! Can’t say the same for Amex of courses if you decide that route, nothing wrong with that either.
Also after the $300 travel credit is used and brings it down to $250 per year.. You have moved up from the preferred card. Then minus that $95 fee....250 minus 95....Now down to $155 per year
💎 I personally just can’t justify the AF for the reserved. I just can’t justify the card after using the $300 travel credit. $250 on priority pass restaurants, insurances, and Lyft/instacart? I’ll just have to stick to my CSP! 😂
you'll laugh but i meant to apply for the preferred but accidentally applied for the reserve and the chase lady said you could cancel it, or you could keep it lol so you can have mine. it does look nice. they gave me a 24K credit line, i'm a homeless bum so not sure why chase decided to do that but their loss about to go buy a car lol j/k
💎 I was recently pre-approved for the CSR and I'm eligible for the SUB once more. Didn't get it under the pre-approval window, but I'll pick it up later this month. It's a jack of all trades, but a master of none. Solid to carry, but it doesn't excel in any one way to make it a true "keeper" card for me. It's a bit unfocused at present and seemingly morphing into a half-brother of Amex Plat very slowly.
@@newagain9964same hotel statuses, but now adding branded lounges, Lyft affiliation, dash pass affiliation, getting more "coupon book" style credits, etc... It's mirroring a lot of what Plat has done for awhile targeting the same high income/high spend consumer. Just my viewpoint 🤷
Thanks for the refresher. I planned on getting this card in 2020, but COVID wrecked everything. Life is more balanced now and I am thinking of upgrading my Preferred card for this one. However, I feel as if the United Club Infinite Card may better suit me now since I travel for work and am currently living overseas; I would really like to achieve Star Alliance Gold. Thoughts?
Hi! Thanks for the update! Currently have the CSP with a lot of points. Trying to do two international trips in the next year and a half, along with 6-10 domestic trips (Mainly to Boston, LA/SD, and PHX). Would it be worth it to upgrade to the CSR even though I will not get the sign up offer?
This is a setup I’m working towards. Worth noting is that Ritz gives you free unlimited authorized users but CSR AUs are $75 each. This doesn’t even consider all of the Marriott-specific benefits on the Ritz.
CSR only makes sense if you can get $250 in value from pp restaurants or you use their lounges. Chase should have started building lounges many years ago. Cap one seems to care more about building out their own lounges. Venture x is a much simpler do it all type of card too.
Interesting… I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone talk about the Nexus benefit. I do live in Michigan on the Ontario border 🇨🇦. Another reason to upgrade my CSP 💎
Hi. I did not understand how the transfer of points from Chase Saphire Reserve to Hyatt is valued at 5 Cents per point. Can you please explain this with an example? For example if I book a hotel room in Hyatt Amsterdam they charge me $450.00 or 29000 points. How is it 5 cents per point ?
Remember regardless of whether you use your insurance or the rental insurance, the only difference is your immediate out-of-pocket cost. That is your deductable vs whatever the per day cost of insurance was. If it's covered than its nothing. However, the lack of you using your insurance doesn't protect you from your insurance going up regardless. Your risk score will change and there will be a policy increase regardless. The only difference will be that your insurance didn't pay out and it will be less of an increase, but an increase will come non the less.
really the critical thing is if your home airports have priority pass EAT options. SFO, Portland, and SEA are the major ones. Probably leading as to why most customers are big tech.
After getting declined for the venture x, I feel like upgrading my csp to the csr and foregoing the signup is the smart move. Feel like I probably won’t be accepted for the venture x going forward. Anybody disagree?
if you dont use the 300$ annual credit. do you lose it or does it roll over? thx and the additional card. if the user spends on that, does the primary get the points?
Sad live near LAX/OC airports PP sucks here removed restaurants and no CSR Lounge. CSR benefits expire also. Moving to Amex Gold and Amex Blue Business Plus then Platinum and BILT. Cap1 didn't give me a Venture X even though I have checking and savings accounts with them.
FYI, they ended the restaurant perk at SFO and many other airports recently. I believe a lot of other card companies ended this perk as well. Very sad 😢
Aww man, I'm at a dilemma. I've had my CSP for 7 years now and just read about "churning". I was about to downgrade it and then get the SUB for the CSR until I read about the Capital One Venture X. I only travel at least twice a year on international travel, so I don't really consider myself a "frequent traveller". I was planning on just keeping the CSP for now, get the Venture X and use it with my CSP on my upcoming trip to Japan this April. Then, maybe right before my CSP annual this summer, I'll switch to the CSR which just in time for my trip to Europe this Fall. I'm not sure if this is a sound plan but if anyone wanna give their opinion about it, I'm all ears! :D
I'm in the exact same boat with you!! It is such a dilemma.. I don't wanna be stuck with Capital One's travel portal yet I don't think I travel enough that I should get the CSR. But then I also have the Savor, so it seems like it just makes more sense if I get the Venture X. I just can't decide!!! lol
💎 The CSR is a card I haven’t held yet but I’m considering a product change on my CSP a year from now and if they open the lounge in Philly by then it’s likely I do it. I currently run multiple setups with AMEX (Schwab Platinum, Gold, BBP) and I also have the CSP, Freedom Flex, Freedom Unlimited, Ink Cash, Ink Unlimited) oh and I’m also in the waiting stages to complete the Capital One duo by paring the Savor One with my Venture X which I just a month or so ago received. I get good value out of the Platinum card and I don’t think I’ll close it but I still might get the Reserve just to do it even if only for a few years.
Hi, Sebby. My main airport is (MTJ) Montrose, Colorado. All other airport are 7+hour drives away. I fly about 4-6 times per year on average. Many of my flights have connections, but most are short (1 hour or less) and usually the connections are in Denver. Do you think this card is a good choice for me? I usually fly with Southwest, American, and United. I use other airlines for most international flights.
What’s the point of priority pass if most people use it for restaurants and all these cards are taking that benefit away. At that point just go to the lounges that may or may not be packed
There are only select airport restaurants that allow you to use the Priority Pass. They are not in every airport. I have Priority Pass through multiple cards, and I have not heard of any of their PP being taken away by my credit card providers.
Once you learn how to you tranfer partners. The Sapphire Prefered is the way you go. I downgraded and have really thought should I reapply to reserved or prefered. It's a no brainer
💎 my son just got an 80000 CSP offer which I believe is good. The rate is high but I think he’ll get it this time. If I apply for a CSR would I be able to get him the referral bonus or would it only be applicable to a CSP?

💎 Great video Sebby!
💎 which are the best hyatts for getting high end value? Tia
I wanted to ask you @AskSebby about a setup with the Preferred and the Ritz, which has the same AF compared to the Reverse.
PDX is my outbound airport so the CSR has been a no brainer of mine since 2018
Interesting… I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone talk about the Nexus benefit. I do live in Michigan on the Ontario border 🇨🇦. Another reason to upgrade my CSP 💎
You don't get a bonus for upgrading. If it's been more than 4 years, downgrade and apply for the CSR.
💎 I’ve waffled on this card for years. Not sure what I would do
Does using the card for airline baggage fees take up the credit as well?
Could you elaborate on this a little please? How would your insurance find out if you didn't file a claim with them?
Great long term option. I hope they come out with a better credit to help offset the annual fee $250 is pretty step to hold it vs other s
really the critical thing is if your home airports have priority pass EAT options. SFO, Portland, and SEA are the major ones. Probably leading as to why most customers are big tech.
💎 Thank you so much.
Will there be an increased bonus for this card this year?
Very sad 😢
Rc gave 5 points for grocery via targeted offer. For af, is amex gold at 4x grocery still better at 250 vs 450?
If it's been 4 years since you received the CSP bonus (downgrade it to a Freedom), you can qualify for the CSR bonus vs no bonus w/ a product change.
@@AskSebbyIt hasn’t been that long but I will wait another two years and do just that. Thanks for the tip👍🏽👍🏽
Hell no! I canceled mine and I got the Capital one Venture X! The best card with the best Annual fee!
💎 Love my CSR. Until I can really get in the card game, this is my everyday spender.
I got the CSP 14 months ago and received 90K SUB. Can I upgrade that card to CSR and get whatever SUB the CSR offers to new customers?
No, you don't get a bonus when you upgrade.
Can anyone help. So it says 10x hotels i click thru the portal then it shows 3x am I missing something?
I don’t got why csr, ritz card is much better in terms of value it, and even more value than venture x
The card could def use a refresh, hopefully 4 or 5x on dinning and or something else to compete with Amex gold and platinum
💎 new to the miles & points game
I have both CSR and Amex Platinum. CSR has more value and cheaper. Benefits are plenty. Amex is getting to becoming arrogant.
Too bad Chase's LHC benefits, like early checkin/late checkout, aren't guaranteed like Amex FHR's benefits are.
Your video is 💎💎💎💎💎💎💎
Once you learn how to you tranfer partners. The Sapphire Prefered is the way you go. I downgraded and have really thought should I reapply to reserved or prefered. It's a no brainer
Sebby I think you should consider US Bank cards too. Some of them have good offers.
I'm curious to know how much you pay in credit cards AF😂
💎 my son just got an 80000 CSP offer which I believe is good. The rate is high but I think he’ll get it this time.
If I apply for a CSR would I be able to get him the referral bonus or would it only be applicable to a CSP?
I think it’s any sapphire product, but you’ll want to go take a look at the referral details when you’re logged in.
Agree, Sapphire products. You should be good to refer your son.
💎 not cc related but what’s your favorite checked luggage?
Away - lifetime warranty. It's also not flashy so less likely to get targeted for stolen items.
Do you have to pay the $550 all at once for the Reserve or can you split it into payments?
You have to pay it before the billing cycle due date or it will accrue interest if carried over into the next billing cycle. Same with AMEX.
@@tatianabritton6258 Ah okay. Thanks. I don't a premium credit card.
Always a yes.
Pay yourself back currently will reduce that fee to $440.
How does it work?
💎💎💎💎💎💎I think the preferred has better earning potential than the reserve. Sebby do you think they’ll improve the reserve categories to earn points?
We'll have to wait and see!
Remember that because you do not earn points on the $300 credit you should discount the value of the credit by a bit.
$9 😂
Catch me at Yankee Pier with the lobster roll and a bottle of white lmao
They're asking for my TIN. Isn't my social security enough?
