I'd hardly consider Dodge's most recent 12-year run in NASCAR from 2001-'12 to be a failure. Just in the Cup Series, they won a championship (and left the sport at the pinnacle of success), 2 Daytona 500s (2002, '08), 3 Coca-Cola 600s (2006, '08, and '10), the 2001 Southern 500 with Ward Burton (Dodge's first win at Darlington in 30 years), and quite a number of other races, despite not really having a first-echelon team until Penske joined their ranks a couple of years after they re-entered the sport, and even they struggled for a period. When Dodge re-entered the Cup Series in 2001, they made it a point NOT to have a top-tier team when they made their re-entry, choosing instead to try to build winning organizations, and wound up doing exactly that, as evidenced with what Chip Ganassi's team did with Sterling Marlin in 2001 and 2002, because they turned a journeyman driver into a championship contender, while winning two crown jewel races with Bill Davis Racing and Ward Burton. They may not have had the success they wanted in those 12 years, but that run was hardly a failure.
Even one of the last few races Dodge raced, announcer Darrel Waltrip said that Dodge had fuel mileage figured out. Meaning that Dodges were staying out on the track longer than the others.
Lifelong mopar loyalist here, I appreciate you covering the history, there is a feeling amongst mopar fans that the France family had it out for us and as a result most of us are drag racers. I still love nascar but it’s not the same.
It was dodge (and later the parent comapny) themselves, not NASCAR. Know several guys who were working for IMSA/NASCAR at the time and FIAT (now stellantis) was gutting MOPAR and SRT from the inside. If you look at dodge's departure from NASCAR, it also is in the same timeline of SRT jumping out of IMSA and the WEC, Nissan (also under the banner) failing to become a motor manufacturer for LMP2 (due to lack of funding per the FIA's own judgement over a smaller company named Gibson, their half assed attempted at LMP-1 that was doomed from the start, and the overall collapse of NISMO itself, leading to the GT-R being produced beyond the viability of the R-35 as a chassis. Basically dodge was ran by a bunch of whores, who sold out to the highest bidder for the least amount of work, who got bought out by bigger whores who did the same thing, hoping for short term gains with long term sacrifices. Anything good than came out of dodge post K car was because of a few good men still left in the company who kept things like the hemi and the viper V-10 alive but eventually retired, died, or moved on to better companies. The only brand to hold on has been ferrari, because ferrari's name carries a weight that surpasses what you get to the effect of gucci and (insert supermodel name here fashion product). Basically everything you see from the death of them in motorsport, and the slow death of their performance cars, if because of french and italian suits who only cared about numbers on a sheet and not the product itself.
Also forgot to add, this was a company who factory backed a team in a national series made for privateers only, of which all cars made for it were to be available for sale to customers. Of which said privateers could never get at the time because of "back order". The ones that did end up in privateer hands were the old factory backed car sold off after the backing ended. This was in SCCA TA2, what you probably know as Trans-am
Especially now the cars are looking every more identical, except for the Ford or Chevy stickers on them. Much like recent Pro Stock that is not stock in any sense of the word.

I think that would be a huge hurtle for them even if they were interested in motorsports. The whole point is advertising, but there's only 3 "Dodge" branded models currently sold in the US. Right now they have absolutely terrible overall brand recognition with everything being under it's own mark. With Ford, Chevy, and Toyota, you can get just about any vehicle category with that brand on it. There's no such thing at all with Mopar.

Dodge's support didn't end in 1985. It ended in 1979. You just had teams sticking with the brand for a few years then running the equipment they already had in inventory until the model became obsolete to fit the templates in 1985.
Dodge didn't learn from it's 1980's Magnum with that 2000's Charger... Just made an egg, refused to fix it... But at least they went out with a Championship...
It would be great to see Dodge back in circuit racing. Unfortunately given the Charger and Challenger are getting cancelled for an EV model, they dont really have anything to run. There were rumours of running a rebadged Peugeot 9X8 in IMSA... but that went nowhere...
I wonder if Dodge talked to teams Like Front Row Motorsports, JTG Daugherty Racing, Tommy Baldwin Racing about getting them to Switch? Yes all three were small teams but it would've given them 6 cars in Cup, now would those three have also run Xfinity teams at least, maybe. Dodge maybe could've gotten Turner Motorsports to switch in Xfinity & Trucks.
I would like to see it because Dodge has the Horsepower the other manufacturers don’t. Manufacturers want winning because still have the additage First on Sunday sold on Monday but NASCAR I don’t thinks they want them
sad part is when dodge had complete freedom to design a car for nascar it kicked ass but when nascar started limiting what the teams could do they started running bad. the motors were always limited by nascar hell half the internal parts could be ran in any of the 3 brands running at the time the fuel pumps were a chevy pump. they did the same thing to Toyota now days the motors are damn near all ford based.
Fun fact when it comes to the Charger Daytona post 1970, there was actually a Charger Daytona entered in the 1971 Daytona 500 by Mario Rossi and driven by Dick Brooks. Which is kinda funny since any aero cars entered had to run a 305 cubic inch engine, but for the ‘71 500 NASCAR actually restricted the engines to produce closer racing. The only cars that didn’t get hit with the restrictions? The cars running 305 cubic inch engines. So what happened? That Daytona was keeping up with the front runners and was actually in threat to win the race. At least until Brooks spun after Pete Hamilton tagged his quarter panel, which is still debatable to this day whether it was an accident or on purpose and even being told to from NASCAR and Bill France since they didn’t like it. Which is even funnier since Brooks would come back to finish 7th for the last time for the winged car. Can definitely appreciate middle finger cars like this and like the Dauer Porsche 962 LM GT1 from 1994 Le Mans in racing. Which speaking of sports car racing, in IMSA with Aston Martin being the first LMH spec car to enter in the GTP class as the other competitors in GTP r built to LMDh spec, there’s talk as to which manufacturer running a LMH spec car in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) could be the next in IMSA since the only current LMH spec cars in WEC currently that r eligible to enter in GTP r Toyota, Ferrari, and technically Peugeot. I say technically since IMSA has a rule where a manufacturer has to sell 2500 road cars a year and be in the US market, which Peugeot currently does not sell cars in the US. But cause they’re owned by Stellantis, they can enter their Hypercar under Chrysler or even Dodge. Imagine a Peugeot 9X8 Hypercar rebranded as Dodge. It’s something that I honestly really hope happens cause of how hilarious it’d be since IMSA is owned by NASCAR and Dodge enters in IMSA GTP. So u technically have Dodge back in NASCAR, but also not back in NASCAR.
Interestingly, Dodge Challengers are still used in the NASCAR Canada Series (with factory support? Not sure). I think the EuroNASCAR series might still use them too. Definitely feeling a lack of love for the international NASCAR series in this video ;) :P
MARCHIONNE. He thought NASCAR was stupid as you couldn't develop car tech (as with the balance of performance all the effort to make a car better than the rest will be nullified).. He later admitted tho, the move was a mistake but sadly he passed away before anything could change.
Simply outstanding vid bro. Because of Keselowski relationship with Dodge in 2012, is the reason why I'm a fan of his today. (plus that sick blue color, then ) Now I dig Chris Buescher, also sick Blue lol !!!
As a dodge hater I think they should definitely come back as unlikely as it is. There’s been multiple rumors from Honda to dodge coming to nascar for yrs now. Dodge was still a thing back in 2018 but it was a back marker and they only had that one car in the xfinity series. Dodge would probably boost the nascar views as well. Not saying that the nascar views r terrible but they’ve definitely seen better days. Would I want them to come back? It would be cool to see them comeback but if they do they will probably just be given to back markers
The next-gen Charger would look great on a race track, but it’s a tough sell to company management when the car starts at $60,000. The Mustang and Camaro aren’t cheap, but at least Ford, Chevy, and a Toyota have other cars to sell you once they get your attention; the only other Dodge in the lineup is a small crossover, when there are already a hundred others like it on the market. And the trucks are even called Dodge anymore, so no crossover marketing there. Even the minivans are only sold as Chryslers now. NASCAR should consider switching to brand-styled cars like IMSA did with Daytona Prototypes; a generic ‘stock car’ shape that reflects the manufacturer’s design philosophy, but doesn’t rely on a specific car model. So few cars are suitable for racing now, it may be the best way to keep manufacturers involved.
I hope that Chrysler can consider a return to Nascar in the future, especially since the eighth generation of the Charger will have a combustion engine (it's not a V8, but it's already a positive thing)
Damn I miss dodge so much I was dejected when dodge left NASCAR we’ve been begging for dodge to come back but maybe in the farther future they may come back 😢

whatever all you "experts" think...it really doesn't matter what brands race in NASCAR anymore because the "Win on Sunday...Sell on Monday" philosophy doesn't work anymore like it did many years ago. So the "need" for an automobile brand to spend bazillions of dollars to be seen being successful in NASCAR these days is moot. It's way more important for the sponsors on the car than the car brand company to win. If Toyota wins every race in a season they won't sell anymore cars because the people buying them don't care about that stuff. They buy a Toyota because they like Toyota not because they won a race. If a Toyota sponsored by Bud Light wins...things will happen with Bud Light...(Yeah i now I had to use them for an example for fun...) When NASCAR was about as popular as the NFL and those Monte Carlo SS's came out in '84 OMG try to find one that wasn't already sold. I ended up having to buy one from Canada where they were a tad easier to find because NASCAR wasn't as popular up there. Every one you saw out on the streets had some NASCAR drivers' number on the back window. Ain't like that anymore. You ever see any NASCAR drivers number on ANY Toyota??? NFW....
Imagine the Modern Charger being out there? 😭 (I know, I know, the new one is a EV and I6 but still, you can't say that the new Charger isn't bad but it wasn't good, just decent)
That's right because that "win on Sunday, sell on monday" philosophy doesn't do shit anymore so why throw money away for nothing on a dying motorsport...
It's kind of sad that dodge didn't come back to NASCAR. Dodge deserves a second chance. Hopefully, maybe someday dodge will reunite with NASCAR in the near future.

Dodge's support didn't end in 1985. It ended in 1979. You just had teams sticking with the brand for a few years then running the equipment they already had in inventory until the model became obsolete to fit the templates in 1985.
What got Earnhardt at Daytona was knowing Sterling's Dodge was coming to pass him and win the race.
Never would have chased down Jr and Mike
He had to block a dodge from getting to his boys and it cost him !
0:34 glad to see a fellow Gran Turismo 5 Enjoyer
Without Chrysler and the hemi NASCAR never would not have got off the ground.
Great video, direct and informative outlook on DODGE’s indelible history in NASCAR! So thankful they departed from the sport as the Champion! ❤
Manufacturers want winning because still have the additage First on Sunday sold on Monday but NASCAR I don’t thinks they want them
6:27 that has to be the most American name ever
sad part is when dodge had complete freedom to design a car for nascar it kicked ass but when nascar started limiting what the teams could do they started running bad. the motors were always limited by nascar hell half the internal parts could be ran in any of the 3 brands running at the time the fuel pumps were a chevy pump. they did the same thing to Toyota now days the motors are damn near all ford based.
Dodge may not be around for much longer,
I think Dodge has as much chance returning to NASCAR as Pontiac does.
Great video! Between Nascar and Dodge management, us fans are doomed!!!
Simply outstanding vid bro. Because of Keselowski relationship with Dodge in 2012, is the reason why I'm a fan of his today. (plus that sick blue color, then ) Now I dig Chris Buescher, also sick Blue lol !!!
After Stellantis (sp?) gets done with them, Dodge won't have anything left to race.
The Charger Daytona was only available in 1969. Plymouth Superbird was the model for 1970.
Imagine if GM had marketed the camaro half as good as dodge did with the hellcats.
You forgot Jerry nadeau almost winning at infineon in 2002
Great video!
Even if Dodge was going to exit NASCAR, I wish we could have seen the 2013 Gen 6 Charger race for a couple years
I Think Dodge Need To Come Back To NASCAR , And Hook Up With Team Penske Again , But That Wishful Thinking On My Part , Just Me Day Dreaming 🤔
Mopar baby! I love the fact that Tony Stewart is racing Mopar in the NHRA!
The Gen-6 Charger & Nationwide Challenger...OOOHHH 🥵
There were 16:9 and 16:10 1080p Plasma TVs in 2008... no scan lines
You know I’ve always wondered what a gen 7 dodge would look like be in NASCAR currently
This is a terrible thing to say dodge did absolutely fine with SRT and Brad keselowski
Damn I miss dodge so much I was dejected when dodge left NASCAR we’ve been begging for dodge to come back but maybe in the farther future they may come back 😢
Fiat Chrysler is basically killing off Dodge
@redknightsr69, Stellantis has made things worse. Fiat & Chrysler are now part of Stellantis auto group, DA.
@@sergeantmasson3669Italians don't know what to do with the brand.
@@bluerazor7049 Yeah I know they only engineered and built and sold from dealers the quickest street legal with a factory warranty American production muscle car in the world...that ain't much
Awesome recap
Learned about
"and that car sucked" *Corey LaJoe's face enters*
I miss dodge in nascar. If they stayed I can see dodge using the hellcats in nascar. But now the hellcats are dead and all dodge has left is the durango and the hornet and upcoming electric charger.
whatever all you "experts" think...it really doesn't matter what brands race in NASCAR anymore because the "Win on Sunday...Sell on Monday" philosophy doesn't work anymore like it did many years ago.
Dodge failed to make the two-door charger
They have the engines to do that, I'm sure they have something cooking for a return but we won't know until spring
It’s always refreshing to see stories from you, Jett🙏🏁
Next level trolling. Subscribed.
Honda coming to Nascar would be much better
That dodge car look bad ass?
The hell with a Dodge electric car. Hate formula E.
I like what you did with Corey lajoie haha
Thumbs up for calling them NASCAR cars, and not nas-cars.
Hilarious that he gets showing Lajoie when he says Terrible!!!
someone methed up the whole deal.........
I think the hemi challengers should have been in NASCAR all along!
They still run in Canada if I’m not mistaken, TransAm series too.
Because Stellantis does not have the money. If their Nascar entry is reliable as a Jeep, it will never leave the pits.
Im a gm person and i think dodge belongs in with chevy and ford not totota🙄
Hopefully NOT with electric shiiteboxes!
Fiat will keep a Dodge return from happening. To them the focus isn't motorsports let alone NASCAR
That's right because that "win on Sunday, sell on monday" philosophy doesn't do shit anymore so why throw money away for nothing on a dying motorsport...
You forgot the Dodge Mirada in the 1980s and the Dodge Ram in the 1990s
Lajoie references are hilarious
The ghost of Henry Ford is standing guard making sure the Dodge brothers stay out of
It's kind of sad that dodge didn't come back to NASCAR. Dodge deserves a second chance. Hopefully, maybe someday dodge will reunite with NASCAR in the near future.
Miss Dodge. What a great or not great way to go out with 2012 champion Keselowski.
Absolutely...go out on top. Great athletes do the same..
2005 nascar dodge charger was most beautiful car.
Dodge Charger did not return to the Dodge lineup until 2006. Early 2000 NASCAR Dodges were Intrepid bodies then in 2003 to 2006 it was Stratus R/T bodies.
DODGE NEEDS TO RETURN TO ITS ROOTS OF INNOVATION, CRTEATIVITY AND VARIETY!!!
