- F-Zero AX is a futuristic racing game where thirty pilots race on massive circuits inside plasma-powered hovercars in an intergalactic Grand Prix at speeds that can exceed 2000 km/h.
The game is noteworthy for its visuals, intense action, high level of difficulty and for its very high sense of speed. Tracks include loops, half-pipes, cylinders, and jumps.
Some courses have innate obstacles like dirt patches, mines, tricky jumps, and magnetic tubes to navigate. Before a race, the player is able to adjust a vehicle's balance between maximum acceleration and maximum top speed. This adds strategy, as players with greater knowledge of the circuits can make better decisions.
There is a limited range of machines available for the player to choose from. There are only ten vehicles in this arcade game plus the four pilots and with their own vehicles from the original F-Zero game; Captain Falcon, Dr. Stewart, Pico, and Samurai Goroh. Each vehicle has its own characteristics and performance abilities, including and limited to varying levels of top speed, acceleration, cornering, grip, boost, body, and each is driven by a different character.
There are six courses in F-Zero AX and a single race consists of three laps around one of those tracks.
Each machine has an energy meter, which serves two purposes. First, it is a measurement of the machine's health and is decreased for example, when the machine hits another racer or the side of the track. Second, the player is given the ability to boost after the first lap. Boosting greatly increases the racer's speed, but also drains their energy. Energy can be replenished by driving over recharge strips that are placed on the track. If a player falls off a track or runs out of energy, a time penalty is received. As with all F-Zero titles, combat is not a crucial part of the game, but machines can attempt to damage and destroy each other using side or spin attacks.
F-Zero AX includes two different modes of play. In the Race mode, the player chooses a cup and races against twenty-nine opponents through each track in that cup.
Using this mode, up to three other people can join in to compete simultaneously when the cabinets are connected to open up "Versus Play". Though each track must be completed before time runs out, the player is awarded "time extensions" for reaching certain checkpoints in the course. In Time Attack, the player chooses a track and complete it in the shortest time possible.
The game also dispenses F-Zero License Cards for various Prices. With these Cards, the game will build a custom vehicle that can later be upgraded using the pilot points earned for winning races. The card also saves the players' user ID, custom machine data, race data and pilot points, and provides a password for the F-Zero AX Internet Rankings.
This Internet ranking system is where players will enter a password on the Internet and will get ranked based on their position in the database.
When using the F-Zero License Card, players will receive a password after racing in Time Attack that can be entered into the F-Zero Internet Rankings. It will save their time with the machine they've used on the database and rank it against other people's scores.
A Nintendo GameCube memory card can be plugged directly into the F-Zero AX cabinet to download and/or upload special data.
If the memory card has F-Zero GX data on it, it is possible to access and use the custom vehicles contained there.
Nevertheless, players can use these arcade cabinets to unlock permanent access to multiple features in F-Zero GX; the fifth and last cup called the "AX Cup", a number of new custom machine parts and ten new vehicles.
This is easier said than done, as AX cabinets are quite rare; according to a fan-compiled F-Zero AX Locations database, less than twenty are Confirmed to be available in the North America region. However, more were manufactured for America and are simply MIA, Thus the chance of a new discovery, and its content can instead be unlocked in F-Zero GX, although with extreme difficulty.

If anything, I think F-Zero 99 might be testing the waters for something for the franchise in the future, so we can all hope.

Sega should make another F-Zero game. Also, it’ll be neat if they made a Mario Tennis for Nintendo by the team that made Virtua Tennis. Kirby or a Peach game would be neat by Sonic Team
f zero paved the way for the mario and sonic at the olympic games series

I was so psyched to find the actual cabinet about seven years ago now, I played Port Town thinking it wouldn’t throw me around. I have never been more happy to have been wrong in my life!
I've been a big fan of GX for a while and found out there's a place with an AX machine in my city. The moment I walked up to it I lit up like I was 6 years old again. Never has my smile been so stupidly wide since then.
I played this game in a real cabinet at AnimeNYC! It was amazing, and I could finally fulfill my dream of having my old GX file interact with it. The steering wheel controls felt _a lot_ better than I thought they would. It's not quite as precise as a GameCube controller, but it still felt very snappy. If I ever find another F-Zero AX machine in the wild, I'm definitely playing it again!

I know it isn't gonna be the same, but there's a specialized Dolphin Triforce build that can actually play F-Zero AX now, so there's that. I tried it, it's very slow on my end, but my other friends had wayyyyy better experiences.

Me: Okay, I’ll get f zero GX because when I came across the disc channel on the Wii for the first time, it said to insert a Wii or GameCube game disc. This game will help me prepare for F-Zero AX, since it came back to the arcades in the Kempsville area. Thankfully, I got a new card here. This got me some money for the GameCube memory card and f zero GX, so now, let’s go onto Amazon.

F-Zero AX is a futuristic racing video game for Triforce in the arcades. Developed by Sega's Amusement Vision department, it was released in Japan, Europe, and North America, in 2003 alongside its Nintendo GameCube counterpart, F-Zero GX. F-Zero AX is the second game from Sega to utilize the "Triforce" hardware conceived from a business alliance between them, Nintendo and Namco. This hardware allows for connectivity between the Nintendo GameCube and arcade games.
F-Zero AX is the fifth/sixth released installment in the F-Zero series and the successor to F-Zero X. The game continues the series' difficult, high-speed racing style, retaining the basic gameplay from the Nintendo 64 title. The in-game differences between F-Zero AX and GX lie in particular to their number of vehicles and tracks. Both games have their own exclusive tracks, vehicles and vehicle parts. However, everything in the Triforce version can be unlocked in the GameCube version, albeit with extreme difficulty.
There are three types of the game cabinet: standard, deluxe, and the Monster Ride. Standard is a regular sit-down model while deluxe is shaped like Captain Falcon's vehicle and offers a hydraulic tilting seat simulating the craft's cockpit. The F-Zero Monster Ride utilizes the machine called "Cycraft", which was developed cooperatively between Sega and Simuline. The machine makes use of three servo motors for movement.
Rumors said F-Zero AX remastered could release or stay locked.

I remember that in 2004 in Monterrey, at a shopping mall, they had that game in Moy Land. I was so excited when my father bought me credits to play, and I played all the circuits. Such good times, that's why it will always be one of my favorite games.

Había una en la Ciudad de México en un Cinepolis situado en Plaza Universidad por varios años, chance y todavía sigue. Yo llevé mi memory card para conseguir los carros (porque pude conseguir las pistas acabando creo que la dificultad master).
Llegue a jugarlo una sola vez pero recuerdo me gusto bastante
With F-zero 99 on the switch out, it introduced many new comers who never played f zero since the last f-zero was F zero GX for gamecube and AX for arcades. This was way back in 2000-2007ish so many of the younger gamers never expierenced f zero. Therefore it is a very good time to release a new f zero
The last F-Zero game that ever released (before F-Zero 99) was F-Zero Climax on GameBoy Advance and that game never got localized outside of Japan.
Outer Space probably has to be my favorite track in GX/AX just from the visuals alone. You’re racing through a damaged space colony above Earth with a meteor shower roaring overhead. Plus, the blue “slip tunnels” are cool even if they’re tricky to steer through.
I played GX all the time and mastered it plus getting the AX content, but I never played the actual arcade itself.

You can have it at home for pretty cheap actually. If you have the original game or an uncompressed iso of the game, a modified wii with homebrew and devolution, or a gamecube with an action replay. You can turn on f-zero ax mode and it plays an early unfinished beta build of it made to play on gamecube
So, different maps and modes that arent in the original version

@@stephenspilman68 Actually I would only reccomend for some maps as a ton of the maps don't work with the physics in gx that is if you use an action replay to play ax or trying to reach the files as on many maps on the pipes and jumps you'll end up flying out or straight up crashing
At first I was unsure whether you were using Nintendont or real hardware recording, but it is really cool that you happened to be the first one to actually ever record this running in that new Dolphin Triforce version by crediar!! It is weird that you didn't happen to really explain or provide context for this considering how recent it is, but in any case, props for getting to test this so throroughly!
The one thing I did not know is that you could get to save your card and insert it when playing again; I don't know which button I have to use to do that.
Even with the hidden AX mode in F-Zero GX, there are still some differences between the arcade and GameCube version regarding the graphics, sound effects, and soundtrack. Rather interesting.
I remember driving from Portland to Seattle just to be able to play this game. Oh... yeah, also I was there for a college visit, which is why my parents let me go. I almost slept through my admission interview the next morning. *sigh* Priorities.

God, I always feel nervous when I hear the low energy warning.
I need to find me one of these machines. Im sure not too many of them are around anymore considering the game is 20+ years old now. But id still love to experience an fzero game with a motion sim seat and an actual steering wheel.
There's a list of them in a pinned post of r/Fzero. I recommend you play the Deluxe version, which is the most fun and has a motion seat with rumble and a great sound system
I played on one a few months ago in Japan. If you're ever in Tokyo, head to the arcade named Mikado in Ikebukuro.

Fun fact: F-Zero AX could be played on normal GameCube system with normal memory card in slot B and the crypt in slot A. 😅
So, you only need a dump of crypt card and ISO of the arcade disk for Triforce (it is based on GameCube). Unmodded GameCube could launch it. Also, for Wii and Wii U You need to load Nintendont Loader.

Drift turn requires the use of the air brake to initiate in most cases. The heavier the machine, the easier to initiate.

If F-Zero does return, one of the things I'd like to see added is a Boost Power Reserve Tank for your vehicle...and Regenerative Boost Power as well.
It did. Reserve tanks for the vehicles are upon the horizon, meaning they might come to F-Zero 99.

@sunnydayyesgameofthronesno2981 we recently got F-Zero 99 on Switch and so many people are definitely playing that. Only time will tell that we will get more F-Zero games soon to come.

For some reason, Nintendo decided to focus their efforts on Mario Kart as for racing games. Probably because of the profits generated. However after 20 years and Fzero 99 if things go unexpectedly well for the game maybe they'll think again about a remaster of GX or even a new one

XF Extreme Formula is looking like the nails in the coffin for F Zero. The demo is out and it's PHENOMENAL! This game make me feel extremely confident to say that F Zero can safely retire with such an amazing game from an amazing developer. It's ever faster than F Zero and mind you, this is only but the demo :D

This is not true, The AX that can be accessed in GX has some of the features but not ally also it has different physics, so it's more of an AX mode not the actual AX
