@@auspextactics this is the straw that broke the camel's back, I knew it would be difficult to get a copy of the veterans box. I wanted a set, haven't bought models in quite some time. This is all the catalyst I needed to fully commit to 3D printing. 12k printer purchased as an upgrade for my current printing set up. I'm done. It's going to have to be an impressive scuplt that is impractical in resin for me to even consider purchasing from GW moving forward. They knew the demand was going to nuclear. But they are pulling a classic bait and switch to get people to buy individual kits. I'm not participating in the constant FOMO farming. Printer go Brrrrrr
I play Night Lords and like the idea of the dread talons a lot. However, I like the traitor marine side of the army way more than the cursed/corrupted side, so I like the units in the other one way more.
night Lords are Not just raptor Guys with claws. they also have the atramentar (terminators) and mostly legionnaires. so the veterans Box works too.
Vets of the long war for me, I never picked up termies or possessed, the lord is cool as well. I’ll probably sell the chosen and legionnaires, but they honestly have good bits for customization too
If in Oz, Combat Company still have the dread talons battleforce. Managed to get the VotLW box from gapgames right on midday! So glad Auspex gave the heads up on the time is AEST. Cheers mate!
Getting both battleforces but not the new CP. I did however manage to grab a copy of the old 9th edition CP the other day.
I'm doing the same. I already have some possessed and plenty of legionnaires. I'll get a master of possession and another squad of cultists sometime in the future.
Started playing The Purge alongside DG in 8th edition. I've added other gods under the banner and I'm absolutely grabbing a Dread Talons box.

Grabbing the Codex and the Dread Talons box, it has a bunch of units I don’t currently own.
I was planning on potentially grabbing the Vets box as well, but then remembered price conversion to AUD is not a direct conversion with the current rates and can’t afford that 😢

After finding out the jumplord can't join warptalons I won't be grabbing the dreadtalons box.
I was told that he can, but you might have to use warp talon loadout. idk
Id wait for the app update, remember the books are made way before so its possible warp talons get added to attachable unit roster

Apparently it's because warptalons are supposed to be the jump pack version of possessed but the model does not communicate that at all. They're just raptors with claws
Apparently, the new chaos board with the jump pack can only attach to raptors, I was under the impression he could also join warp talons…
Was on Wargame portal this morning and I made it to the cart before they suddenly went out of stock. I had them in my cart and they vanished. It wasn't even 1:01 EST yet. Not even a full minute passed before they were sold out.
Damn and for the official release same thing happened. But this time I made it to checkout before it went sold put.

Looking to get into 40k and I was going go buy the Veterans of the Long War box. Got on at midnight and it was sold out before I could even hit check out unfortunate.
I kinda want the combat patrol for my Word Bearers. MoP, Possessed, and some cultists will go well with the previous Combat Patrol without too much overlap.
I’d buy if they were smaller and cheaper offerings:
Jump Lord, 10 Raptors, Daemon Prince
Foot Lord, 10 terminators, Possessed

I am extremely new to 40k ( I haven't even played yet), and I'm thinking about making a Word Bearer army. Would any of these boxes be a smart start for me? I love the demonic space marines as an aesthetic!
Given i use my Iron Warriors for both 30k and 40k, can't go too chaosy. Both are a pass for me.
Hey how good an army does both the new Battle forces build? I've been thinking about starting a CSM army and that's a fairly full and fleshed out army by itself right?
Yea, it would be pretty good balance of units. Not competative by any means but, still good.
If you build the raptors as raptors, and used the warp talon claws, you could easily convert the 10 legionnaires into chosen, and that would fit especially well if you were to choose night lords as your faction.
An additional night lords kill team box, (or legionaries if not night lords) and maybe some havocs? Would create a pretty balanced but potent 2k list.
Depending on codex points you may still need another small unit, or some enhancements etc, but i think its pretty close either way
I've just got the old combat patrol but I haven't painted them yet because I can't decide. Black Legion look cool, but Red Corsairs lore is so interesting (screwed over by the Imperium and driven to become renegades), now that I see Huron Blackheart survived another edition despite being out of print, I have some hope he will get a new mini and I can choose Red Corsairs...

I'll get both battleforces & the combat patrol & some extra jump packs so i can do a 10 man squad of both Warp Talons & Raptors & start a new Nightlords army. It'll have a quite different feel to my current Black Legion one.

Grabbing the limited codex because I like fancy art (if the rules get outdated in ~3 years, then at least I have a badass book in my shelf)
And the dread talon box, as I already have 10 terminators and I like jump packs
I’m tempted but I’ll pass. I only own the Chaos marines boarding action box so these two would actually work pretty well for me. Yet I have planned quite a large purchase of dwarves for the Old World, which means I’ll have to decline.
Kind of odd, but with the new CSM Lord on foot, I was kind of expecting at least some suitable enhancements to his weapon types to show up in the list so that using them would not be a straight up nerf from the Daemon Hammer. Very cool models though to be fair, but I also hapen to think the Thunder-Hammer one is pretty nice already. A bit of an odd choice for a new model of the range all things considered.
I managed to secure both boxsets. With that being said, i probably bought half the stock of my local retailer.

Magnus was a victim of circumstance. He has good intentions and tried to do right but his need to do right, at all costs made him wrong. IMO, he would have been loyal if not for the Prospero razing. Trickier question is, is the Alpha Legion loyal? Since Alpha is about deception, you cannot assume they are not loyal just because they are fighting with Chaos. The best way to defeat the enemy, is from within. That's the way they fight.... So....as the alpha legion does, they are waiting for the moment to activate the many headed hydra to overthrow chaos.
Magnus did what he thought was right, he just went the wrong way of going about it, and screwed up Big E's Webway project. The Emperor is more at fault for not divulging his plans for Magnus, especially since Magnus was to be a centerpiece of the plan. I believe Alpha Legion started out as loyal throughout most of the HH, but in the 10K years since, they've ultimately fallen to Chaos.

I'm a big kitbasher so the veterans box is a treasure trove to me, but I already own 50-60 models between termis chosen and legionaries. The only thing i have in the talons box is a single squad of cultists and 10 talons, it adds too much value to my collection to pass up
The CSM Combat Patrol isn't bad by any means, it's just not as fun as the old one.

Already had confrimation from a registry of interest that there isnt enough made, at least for some of the bigger 3rd parties. Little jaded as this is how it always goes. But you can still get the Tau box for the now more points expensive kroots :(

Glad i watched this, thanks for the news. Im going to hold off and just get the jump pack lord on his own later on. Saved me a lot of disappointment.
One more starter set to consider: 10th Edition Starter Set (marines/nids) and a Kill Team Legionaires set. Hear me out...
The Kill Team gives you troops as well as spare bits to help convert the terminators into chaos terminators. The Librarian makes for an easy Sorcerer. The infernus marines can be converted to noise marines, perhaus using the helmeted heads as "speakers" for the tips of their guns. The nid swarm can serve as mutated Cultists, the leapers can be chaos spawn, the big monster is practically a Venomcrawler already, and you could run your winged nid as a daemon prince or another chaos spawn depending on how you base it.
The Legeionaries stand out enough that you could kitbash thrm as a 10 man Chosen squad to squeeze more points out of it.
Lastly, the termia captain has the right base size to be an Obliterator, so if you bought two starter sets for well over 2k points worth of Chaos then you could conert the two captains.
The points per dollar ratio is BONKERS and you'll have a very unique looking army even before you paint it.

My lgs got one of each battle force and didn't even bother to discount it as they only got one
It's a hard sell now for the new combat patrol, now that they nerfed two of the datasheets in it.
ive not played 40k in years but feeling the pull, gonna see if i can get anything if not ill go loyalists. (edit, i did get them but element showed as out of stock the milisecond they were visable so i had to get them direct)

9th edition Combat Patrol was better. The Battleforce boxes are both pretty nice. If I was just starting Chaos Marines, I'd try to get all 3 boxes. However, the only thing in them I need/want are the new Chaos Lords. So I'll wait for individual release.
Dread Talons looks simply perfection. Every CSM player whos been playing for a long time already have all of the Veterans of the Long War units so... idk about that one other than being great for new collectors.
I was able to find the equivalent for every unit in both boxes on Etsy for half the price lol.
Literally no clue why but each of these is priced at $280 usd at my local game store.
GW and their never ending price hikes to fleece to people stupid enough to keep buying no matter what.

I love the price changes the further away from home I get, 15 minutes away from my LGS is a Warhammer store with the boxes at MSRP and then 45 minutes further away each box is at a preorder price of 210

In term of the 2 battle forces they are not bad if geting in to CSM as a new player. As both battle forces with the CSM combat patrol . You can have a decent 2k army list if geting the as a new CSM player for the moeny worth . As for the character's lot of them if you just use a legionare kit or a raptor kit you can save moeny and kitbash to make them . If you are a new player they are not bad to get if you do not mind spending the money for the models you get for about 1000$ CAN for me. It is good to see new boxes are worth there money for new people . Otherwise the boxes are not worth geting for people who been collecting CSM for a good amount of time now.
Horus Heresy era marines are still a good buy if any one want to save on money for a 40k CSM arm if you are creative enough .
I don't know what people are going on about. None of the past few box sets have done particularly well. You can still buy the Kroot and Auric Chapmpion boxes right now at a discount, and Deathwing Assault box was available for a while after release, it wasn't instantly sold out. The Ork box was also available for a fair bit after release. I even got mine at 10% off from my FLGS. Sure there aren't a lot of stock for them, but that has been the nature of box sets. They're not meant to be permanent SKUs, any sane business wouldn't want their limited run items to still be around after 3 years like the Dominion box, that means they overproduced. In an ideal world, all of these would be Made To Order, and everyone who wants would get one but GW is run like a mom and pop store, so that's never going to happen

Ordered 1 of each battleforce. Local game shop got stock, and was able to get them at 235 canadian each on the pre sale price reduction they offer(would have been 275 each without). But i'm also starting fresh with chaos for the first time since 3rd. Grabbed these two, the previous combat patrol box with the helbrute in it a few months back, an abaddon, and 2 of the warpforged box. Probably covert a few of my regular marine rhinos over for chaos too since i pretty much never use them for marines anymore. Definitely not to the point where I still need 5 of them. But I feel all that should give me a pretty good running start.
Well, good that I placed my pre-order 2 days ago already at a 3rd party shop (codex, cards, dice and both BF boxes - and I got the feedback that the dice might be a problem but the rest is confirmed).
its literally sold out online already within first hour. codex collectors ed. this is dumb. as a new player to the hobby i just cant get one :S

I'll never understand why games workshop keep leaving money on the table by underprinting these boxes. It's not like people like me who didn't manage to snag either of the boxes in the five seconds they were up are going to buy each of the models in both boxes individually now but rather just wait for them to release the chaos lords. Magnus did nothing wrong. He was told to do nothing. And he did that wrong.
Don't ever give GW money. 3d printed models are waaay cheaper and just as good in modern times. Prirate the codices and novels it's easy. The codices are gnna be invalid the day you get them anyway and a new one will release in a year (if you're unlucky).
I find it EXTREMELY difficult to believe that more people play Vashtor than Khorne, Nurgle or Tzeentch.
they dont, but those gods all have their own factions/codexes. stands to reason they would just use their own book over the generic CSM one
And Slannesh being second is not a surprise, they don't have their Emperor's Children codex yet. In terms of what the warbands worship, most of them are undivided either because they hate Chaos or sees using all four of them give them the best advantage. Or in the case of Word Bearers, they love them all equally.
I would absolutley love to use your element games code to support, i massivley appreciate all your hard work.
However what little i do pick up for the hobby, i can pick up substantially cheaper via "connections".
For example i managed to get both chaos battleforces, and codex, for under £240, including first class tracked shipping.
The two battleforces alone would have cost me that much from element, im sorry. ;_;

The bad unit tax is too high, as ever, to make the sets worth buying.
'Ravaged Star' is way too expensive. MWG's international pricing structure makes GW's pricing look like it was tailor-made for homeless people. £185 for 64 miniatures is insane, £200 for 25 miniatures is even worse, and a 2-player starter set with 32 miniatures for £210 is purely disrespectful. All for a game that has no lore, no history, is copied off of 40K, and is by far an inferior product? It's a joke.
