I wouldn't call it a moral -- that would constitute right and wrong -- and while the thought is poignant, and certainly romantic (in the actual sense of the word), it does seem a rather cliché platitude, and personally, I would think it arrogant to not fear death: there is nothing wrong with being terrified of finality.

Death loomed over her. Over the many years that it followed her she got closer and closer to it. Sleeping along side her, being with her while she ate, and watching over her family. Over time she grew old, weary, or sick. She knew it was time... As her family left the forest to graze she stopped. Pausing only for a moment and looked back to the death that had watched over her. She walked towards it calmly. She had lived her life; with understanding and trust she embraced death. The friend that would come for her and all that followed.
Notice that towards the end, the rest of the pack leave, but Death's friend start to struggle to breath and stand. She knew what death was and knew it was her time. Those little details just make this story that much more beautiful and heart wrenching.
It makes it more bittersweet and artistic. It shows the creators talents don't solely rely on animation simply looking good... But the animator knows how to tell a story through subtle details.

bro how do you thank death for everything, where's Life at? It should be thanking life. Death is metaphorical and personified as it stuck with the deer through everything. You know how people say your more close to death then ever as you sleep or blink? That's how death sticks with us. It's there through the whole journey and that's how death was used in this video I guess it looks like the deer was saying thanks in the video and it's a sweet moment but that's where it rests. In my opinion, the character of "Death" touches the animals not to kill them but because he wants to touch something, to play, to have an embrace. This is clearly evident when he touches the flower and it withers immediately, shocking him. So in the end, the deer chooses him to touch and give him the embrace he was seeking. It was time for her to die. This is apparent because the deer seems to tremble and not be well when the others depart. Very, very touching from every perspective.
Hmmm, perhaps, but the bird on the ground looked pretty bummed about it. I think when he touched the flower and it died, it was a mistake, and death questioned its own judgment for a moment. This allowed the doe to continue living, and death time to fall in love and cherish her. But when the doe welcomed death's embrace, it brought death back to the reality of what its purpose is.
I love the way death was drawn as a human, but with animalistic motion. The way he sits, the way he lays down... It's very visually interesting, making him seem like a whole different sort of creature

my grandpa used to say "there are only 3 things in life that are guaranteed, birth, death, and taxes. Everything else is a gift" and I think of it every day
Omg i just watched it again and even though i knew it was coming im still crying. I had to set my phone down ten minuts ago and i just couldn't stop. Though i would hug death if it gave him a little bit of happiness.
When I first watched this (years ago), I was mad at the deer for hugging him, it was so sad and I kind of thought the deer was just stupid. Now I realize that the deer was old and tired. It could no longer follow it's herd and was ready for death. It knew what would happen if she touched her friend, but it was ready, and embraced it.
Death was ashamed of himself, hating to have to kill beautiful things. All he wanted was friends and fun. The deer helped Death realize that nobody is angry at him, and that letting his friends move on is caring for them.
He wasn't ashamed of himself. He just realized that he held the power of taking life with one touch of his hand. And it's not that he wanted that power, in fact you could see that he struggled with it, but it was his task and he understood it and knew what it meant. In the end, he reluctantly gave rest to his best friend, and felt the grief of it. I think if I had to think of it in a spiritual sense I could imagine G-d loving us just as death loved the little deer. But like death, G-d realizes that He must deliver us to our death. Though it hurts, he does it. But it doesn't mean He doesn't love us. It's simply our time.
@F.u.c.k Go.ogl.e well, seems like you're a bot too then. Wait. ...bots Don't jerk off. Okay then ani....hell no. You're not definitely human too because having feelings is human. I believe you're a jerk then. Jerking off to perhaps any of your family member too?
Death can be patient and even kind, and will wait for a time when you are ready to move on. There are those who see death as a friend, and welcomes it as a release from pain and misery and hardship. This is true for so many countless people who had passed on.
Alois Salt Ya. There are. Your point being? We already understand this. The world is a shitty place where wars and murder happen. It really is. Does that mean you have to say something like this to point it out?
This is so sad because death didn’t want to hurt the deer. He finally felt loved. when he hugged the deer he realized that he hurt it. it’s so sad that he will never feel cherished
This made me cry, I thought Death finally found a friend that wouldn't die from its touch, but it did. This is a great film. Edit: Thanks for the likes, you all are so nice
made me cry too, I think it's more of when he touches them it releases their spirit from their failing body. The deer's body was giving out and she knew it, she let death know it was her time and he released her spirit
Borrowed Time-Memento mori, (Latin for 'remember that you [have to] die’) James 4:13-15 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”- 14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” Most of us live as though there is no tomorrow. We simply have no concept of a world without us and yet each second the clock ticks away is one less second off our lives and as King David said, "It is soon cut off, and we fly away."(Bible Verse Psalm 90:10). Our whole existence is a gift from God. From the day of our birth until the day of our death we are on borrowed time. ("It is appointed unto man once to die"). One of the great questions of all time is, What is the meaning of life? This greatest of all philosophical questions is answered in the greatest of theological books. (Eccl. 12:13) -- "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." (Mark 12:30) -- "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength." The wisest use of our borrowed time is to invest it in the love and worship of our Creator. The Swahili language of the Bantu people of East Africa has a unique way of translating Psalm 31:15 which reads: "My times are in thy hand". They translate it, "My whens and hows are in thy hand." Poem: The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power To tell just when the hands will stop at late or early hour. To lose one’s wealth is sad indeed. To lose one’s health is more. To lose one’s soul is such a loss as no man can restore. It is said that, on the average, 39 people died in the time it took to read that little poem. Every hour almost 6,000 people go to meet their maker. You could have been one of them and sooner or later you will be. Are you ready? (Amos 4:12) -- "Therefore, thus will I do unto thee; and because I will do this unto thee, Prepare to meet thy God." Psalm 103:15-16 As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, And its place acknowledges it no longer.
The way the doe slowly gave in at the end reminded me of my late basset hound, Annabelle. She was an amazing dog, she lived a long and happy life. I still miss her dearly. She was basically another sister to me, I grew up with her at my side, she helped me through the darkest days and gave me reason to keep going. It was an amazing 14 and a half years, girl. I'll never forget you.
I, too, have suffered my dog loss almost 2 months ago. A sweet, little 12 years old Cocker named Briciola (in Italian, crumb). She really was a part of our family. I'm with you, man.🤝
This is the most profound depiction of Death I have ever seen. Death is not evil. Death just is. I have walked with Death almost my entire life, and seeing "him" in this fashion struck a chord with me. To see Death appreciate life, and seeing lives acknowledge Death is somewhat freeing. Death is a release from Earthly bonds. Thank you so much for making this. It shows that Death has a heart, too.
@@nerdstalgia maybe he got a tumor or a disease that can kill him at any moment? Or hes doing a metaphor like how the deer in the video "walked with death"?
+Admiral Domo Look at 3:15. The Deer just got old and couldnt run off with everyone anymore. Thats what happens to everyone, if you get old you are not fast enough anymore. The Deer accepted that and touched Death to be released from her (i assume) pain because it was her time to die.
well, you're one up on me, because i cry at movies, too! but holy cow...this one really got me! just as Indiana Jones said "Snakes...why'd it have to be snakes?" i thought "A deer...why'd it have to be a deer?" No one wants to see a deer die, not even when it's time!
@@inkadinkadoodle yeah, i live on a forest property not too far off a medium-used road, we had a mother and baby fawn that lived on our property for a long time we loved to see them. but one day, we were driving out of our driveway and the little fawn had been hit while trying to cross the road...i cried in the car all the way to wherever we were going
Because movies these days are assembly built, piece by piece by cold heartless robots who design it to be as bland, safe, generic and as inoffensive as possible so there's no heart or soul to it. Oh I'm sorry my bad, those aren't heartless robots they're studio execs. Much worse.
_"Death does not come for us, as our punishment in life. He comes for us, as our refuge from pain._ _Death is not a cruel master, but is often our most understanding friend."_ (EDIT: Remember, *Death comes for us.* Not the other way around. As a 7-time suicide survivor, I very much know that it doesn't work when inverted.)
In the end, the deer seemed weak and unable to keep up with the others. She understood what would happen if death touched her, yet she did it. She knew that he would put her in a better place and not suffer from exhaustion And being old
@PRATEEK uh i did not say that the dear has gone to the afterliver or something like that, i just said that it died and it dont stopped existing the dear exist in memories and their corpse is still there.

I said this in another comment, this is y I come to the comments, for the vast genuine perspective. I appreciate the beauty in that truth,as it is in fact at our side at all times.
Death is a force you can't make peace with, you can only surrender to it! The truly wise know this, and, in the time before they meet death, live as fully as possible!
@@petergant8767 I’m my opinion you can make peace with death. You just have to accept that one day you will face it,and surrender to it. If you are always afraid of death you won’t be prepared for death. Death co-exists with us as long as we are physically alive. People fear death, not because of what’s going to happen to them, but because of what’s going to happen to the ones that knew them.
He is really afraid of making someone his friend because when someone becomes his friend, he/she will definitely come close to him and when he/she comes closer to him then.....................
I sometimes wonder if death ever regrets being death himself like if death is conscious does he ever regret taking all of those lives? Does he ever just want to give up or does death even have feelings to begin with Some questions i suppose that are not possible to have an answer to
Death seems like a genuine dude who wants nothing but a friend, but simply can’t have one because of his killing capabilities. Despite that, he tries his hardest to fit in with the rest of nature, but doesn’t seem to do it very well. The only “friend” he had was a deer, who didn’t mind him coming near her. At the end, she seems to fully embrace the fact that she is old and accepts her fate, giving death something he always wanted.. a hug.
What if as time gose by the grim reaper get upset or sad that he will never see his friends or be able to go through the same thing as life and death like thats sad to me
one of the few things that almost made me cry I found this quote somewhere hope you understand it "If heaven is such a nice place why do we fear death?"
Tommie Smit I think that we fear death because we may not go to heaven because of our past or something that we may have done in the past. Edit: this is the most likes that I’ve gotten in months, maybe even years.
catlover 43 that’s right, no man is good or bad, it’s just that one man does one of the two more then the other, so when you say that someone is bad you need to say to yourself “no, he has done good things, it’s just that he does more bad ones.”
When I first saw this, I thought the death entity was just going around killing animals like crazy, then I realized that it was making animals who have reached the end of their lifespans, got sick or whatever else, and it was relieving them of their suffering and sent them into a better place
The only thing that confuses me is death was going to kill the deer but it wasn't really sick or old yet so was death wrong? Maybe I'm thinking about this too much.
Wow! The ending was poetic perfection! You want to love, be loved, and let them in. But you know if you do, they will be doomed from your darkness and pain. So instead, you let them go. You love them so much that you want to save them from your painful love 💔
Its truly beautiful. Death who falls in love with the deer wants her to live her long beautiful life with him by her side and the deer who wants his companionship along the way. The moral of this film is to not fear death but to walk with him by your side as a friend and to welcome him home when its time to go.
when the deer sacrifaced its life for him to feel his touch for the first time melt my heart the animation made me cry i didnt expect the ending to be that way😢
“Sometimes life is like a dark tunnel. You can’t always see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you just keep moving... you will come to a better place.” - Uncle Iroh
I interpreted it as the deer gets old and weary, no longer able to keep up prancing around with the herd. I'm not sure but I hope this ending soothes you a bit better than the friends leaving the deer
The people who disliked this video were crying so much they couldn’t see the buttons right And had their phones upside down Edit:TYSM for so many likes!!!! This is the most I’ve ever had
I’ve refused to watch this for years after it making me so sad the first time. Today I walked in the vet with my dog and never walked back out with her. I knew what was coming and her eyes looked at me just like the deer looked at death “don’t be sad, I’m going to feel better once it’s done” I came home and tried to nap a couple of hours later. During my nap I heard sounds of her by her bed and then what sounded like her walking around the room. 30 minutes later the doctor called and told me she went into cardiac arrest and attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful. R.I.P. my doghter, my little girl, my best friend and little monkey. We had 15 amazing years together and I know you loved me as much as I love you. We will see each other again Trinket 🐶 💙💙
This feels so sad... I also have a “her” dog... I play with her spend time with her... But when sometimes I watch her playing .. I become sad that all this has to end someday... How can anyone be happy on knowing that all this happiness and joy is temporary..and everything has an end... Truth is painful.... My God how have you started believing that someone you loved and played with for 15 years is no more... How painful is it... I can't write anymore🥺
I love this film so much, it’s such a masterpiece. I come back to it every time I feel sad or see it. It really cuts right through to my heart and makes me tear up. Thank you to the creator of this short film. ❤❤
The horrible thing is that death new what it's job was. It was ok with the fact that it killed anything it touched... until it took the time to learn about the creature. Of course... when the deer excepted death, and the deer died... death knew that it's job isn't to kill. It's job is to know when a soul is finished on the Earth and end it's pain. People say that death is a scary thing. I disagree. I think it's beautiful. This was an absolutely beautiful animation of what deaths life would be. It moved me to tears. Well done. Well done.
Heres what I interpret... Death was doing its usual routine of taking the lives of the old animals whos time has come. It can sense when an animals time has come, so when he sensed a nearby animal, it went to take its life, only to realize it was a doe. Surprised and mesmerised by her beauty, death forgot what it came for and instead followed the doe for a while, becoming her friend. After a cold winter, spring blossomed, summer passed, and finally fall arrived. But the doe found no strength to continue, as her days were now truly over. She was at her peak in life, and turned to face death as it tilted its head. The doe got closer to signify that she was ready, but death didnt want to kill its beautiful friend. Nevertheless, something must die in order for something else to live. The doe dies in the arms of death, peacefully, leaving a broken hearted death, who mourns for the doe before he accepts that she is somewhere where the meadow is always green. This was my interpretation.
What I saw it was that the doe didn’t know that it was death itself, and stayed with it. She let her family continue and thought that death needed a friend. She trusted death.
I clearly got lost on UA-cam again because I just found this video and I literally used to watch it in 2017 when I was third grade, this is crazy. This animation is still very beautiful I still love it❤
Lmao it sneaked up on me. At first I was like, "meh" then as I realized the deer was acting more and more tired I said, "oh no!" That ending got me though, when she tried to come to him and he didn't want to do it.

lol, i was playing video games, and wanted to listen to music at the same time, and the the music video for it showed this, so i looked it up, and thought "huh, this shouldn't be so bad" and at the end, started crying my heart out, because that poor deer wanted to make death happy (at least i think so)
I don't think I've ever cried this much over an animation. It's so beautifully done. The relationship between Death and Life is a complicated one, but both serve their purpose at the right time. When you know it's time, it's ok to embrace Death, to let Death embrace you.
"Did he chase them all?" "He took an axe and split himself in two, right down the middle" "So he would always have a friend" "So he would always have a friend"
It's so emotionally developed. I was stunned after watching it for nearly thirty eight seconds. Its Central Idea is very clear that we shall not be afraid of death if we learn to live a life. I respect the creators who have put so much efforts in creating this animation. Keep spreading Positivity in everyone's minds
The moral is: we should not fear death. We should live with it. When the time comes we should meet it with understanding.

Just the way he says it makes my heart wrenching worse, but is well said. You can definately see it in the deer (doe?) 's actions.

Borrowed Time-Memento mori, (Latin for 'remember that you [have to] die’) James 4:13-15
13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”- 14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring.
(Eccl. 12:13) -- "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man."
(Mark 12:30) -- "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength."
The wisest use of our borrowed time is to invest it in the love and worship of our Creator. The Swahili language of the Bantu people of East Africa has a unique way of translating Psalm 31:15 which reads: "My times are in thy hand". They translate it, "My whens and hows are in thy hand." Poem:
The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop at late or early hour.
(Amos 4:12) -- "Therefore, thus will I do unto thee; and because I will do this unto thee, Prepare to meet thy God." Psalm 103:15-16
As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, And its place acknowledges it no longer.
The deer is so content, just accepting what is part of life, knowing that you can't have life without death.

I sometimes wonder if death ever regrets being death himself like if death is conscious does he ever regret taking all of those lives?
Does he ever just want to give up or does death even have feelings to begin with
Some questions i suppose that are not possible to have an answer to
Death seems like a genuine dude who wants nothing but a friend, but simply can’t have one because of his killing capabilities. Despite that, he tries his hardest to fit in with the rest of nature, but doesn’t seem to do it very well. The only “friend” he had was a deer, who didn’t mind him coming near her. At the end, she seems to fully embrace the fact that she is old and accepts her fate, giving death something he always wanted.. a hug.

Did we need this?

Because deep down you all know religion is a bunch of horse shit and you're all scared that death is actually death. Lights out. Night night. DONE

Real. That’s cause I love animals more than humans
Dammmm !!loved it !!
What I saw it was that the doe didn’t know that it was death itself, and stayed with it. She let her family continue and thought that death needed a friend. She trusted death.

Who else watches this in the middle of the night or other weird times and just Cry's?
lol, i was playing video games, and wanted to listen to music at the same time, and the the music video for it showed this, so i looked it up, and thought "huh, this shouldn't be so bad" and at the end, started crying my heart out, because that poor deer wanted to make death happy (at least i think so)
Same
Piper Dickens me. It’s beautiful.
Why is it that I only find comments asking about if your watching at night when I’m watching videos at night?
@@cassiethewolf1570 I actually dont know
I don't think I've ever cried this much over an animation. It's so beautifully done. The relationship between Death and Life is a complicated one, but both serve their purpose at the right time. When you know it's time, it's ok to embrace Death, to let Death embrace you.
🥺🥺🥺
There is someone who has defeated death. He who can make you live eternally.. His name is Jesus! Accept him in your life and you will be his forever!
@@gianluca3837 you can't force someone everyone have their own choices
@@gianluca3837 okay kook
Try Graveyard of Fireflies. You’ll cry harder.
The fact that he stayed and mourned her until nightfall after her time came was gut wrenching
This was so beautifully executed. Wow! I’m a 63 year old woman who seldom watches anything like this. It brought tears to my eyes at the end. Ty.
"There was once a pale man with dark hair who was very lonely."
"Why was it lonely?"
"All things must meet this man, so they shunned him."
dynamiteProgrammer thats from kindred.... dufuq.... hahahha
"Did he chase them all?"
"He took an axe and split himself in two, right down the middle"

The Golden Fox I had a smudge on the screen and it looked like the word ‘tears’ was shaking lol
He touched your heart
The Golden Fox that how I died
Solaris I’m pretty sure people shouldn’t touch your heart and if they can you should probably patch that hole up
It's so emotionally developed. I was stunned after watching it for nearly thirty eight seconds. Its Central Idea is very clear that we shall not be afraid of death if we learn to live a life. I respect the creators who have put so much efforts in creating this animation. Keep spreading Positivity in everyone's minds
danvin dsouza I completly understand you and you are right... we shouldnt be afraid of death... it will cam now or then and its maybe sad but true...
danvin dsouza agreeded
Even after 7 years, this is still one of my favorite short animations
