    If you have a extra 60 bucks to spend i recommend buying the ms180c over the ms 170. Both come with a 16 inch bar and same size engine but the 180 c comes with 3 ungrades. Easy start, quick chain adjuster and metal spike come with the 180 c that the 170 doesn't have.

    @ 20:10 make sure the chain is pushed all the way back and it's not laying in the groove towards the outside. VERY IMPORTANT and easy to get it wrong.
    After you have replaced the bar and chain, spin the chain by hand and make sure it spins easily with no binding.

      Get what you can crank and what you can afford. Most girls like the easy start with the yo-yo starters on them. I have a ms 170, 171, 180 and 181 and they pullover about the same. I once had a 211 and it was about the same. With any saw, put your right foot in the rear handle, put it in full choke and grip and rip. I would suggest the 170 or 171. Saws are not for the meek and the mild. Respect them, but don’t be afraid of them. Anything with two horsepower or more demands respect. Read and follow the advice and guidance in the Owners Manual, and always feed it good food ( fuel).

    I sell these saws at an ACE Hardware Store and the one thing you didn't mention is the easy start on the CE models. When I sell one
    of these, I always instruct the new owner on how to pull the starter cord. You DON"T ever yank on one. If you do, I promise you the starter cord will break. When you pull the cord, you're winding a coil spring that starts the saw. I own an MS180C and that happened to me when my step-son grabbed it off the back of my truck and tried to start it unbeknownst to me. I had not shown him how to start it.

    My dealer didn't tell me anything about my chainsaw when I bought it, I bought a 211C off the shelf that was put together, Didn't know anything about the easy start system until I got home and read the owners manual. That thing about dealers telling you about the product simply is not true. Btw the chain was also installed backwards. I have had this saw for 3 or 4 years and it is a good saw but you are on your own

    • @mainstreetmower
      @mainstreetmower  Рік тому

      I am sorry you had that experience. But honestly, I would suggest finding another dealer for your next Stihl purchase.
      Proper set-up, cranking instruction and safe operation is something all Stihl dealers are required to teach with every purchase to maintain their dealership. We are sworn in and have to sign new documents each year. For us and many others it’s a way we differentiate ourselves from big box stores.
      The mission of this video was to ensure that anyone who has been underserved has access to this info. Thanks for watching

    One thing you need to caution users of the MS 170 about is - make sure when you put the chain on the sprocket that it is on the sprocket and has not walked it’s way off the sprocket into the gap between the sprocket and the sprocket washer. .043 chains are very common to do this. .050 chains do not have this problem because the drags will not fit into this narrow gap.

    I am having an issue with my stihl 16 " ms211 chain saw. The master throttle lever slides past another lever on the carburettor. I have taken it back 5 times to rectify the issue. I asked the stihl dealers to do a report on it and notify the Stihl head office that they have a faulty engineering issue, I was told, that would require to much paper work. Warranty has just expired, the chain saw is back in the work shop to fix the problem, but now they tell me that there is some other issue with the fuel supply, without even looking at it. I was told to leave it in the workshop for a service, which I have done. I am going back there today to inspect the saw myself because I believe that the master throttle lever has broken off, because on one occasion when I took the saw in to be repaired they told me that they had fixed the problem by bending the lever.

    My saw has never fired on the first three pulls on a cold start. I have tried the "three pulls and then half choke" without success. It often takes 20 or more pulls for it to fire (and has done so since it was new). I know I'm not flooding it (I've checked). Instead, it takes forever for it to pull fuel during a cold start. It's ridiculous.

    Stihl needs to ditch the gimmicks & worthless accoutrements. You go to the average dealer and they don't have 90% of the offerings Refocus and rededicate to making the worlds best saws. Start with an affordable homeowners saw with an all metal engine. I have been a lifelong Stihl owner but after a muffler failed and melted half my 2 year old MS271 and the recoil starter failed on my MS250 after less than 10hrs I went out and bought a 60CC CS590 Echo, with an all metal crankcase, for under $400.

    My dealer didn't go over sh*t with me !! I guess in Canada dealers are tough to come by so they can treat their customers like sh*t !

      @@mainstreetmower Thanks for your response. I went a little overboard but honestly, where I bought my saw, the dealer didn't go over anything really. I was even lucky I could get the saw because it was the last one in stock. Some dealers, like yourselves, are probably a cut above many others but it would be nice if they were all on the same page.

      @@wst8340 STIHL requires all its dealers to make sure that they take the product out of the box and go over everything with the buyer, before the final sale. It is meant to be the last line of quality check.
