That is SO super interesting because I feel like you never hear about that type of woman in history. Thanks so much for these videos they really are bringing history back to life.
It was very much the norm for 'career servants' from what I hear. With the job being as demanding as it was, and most staff living on-site, it left little room for personal relationships. On top of that, staff were discouraged from seeing one another, just like in modern day offices - one wouldn't want a lovers' tiff to spill into the preparation of afternoon tea or end up with the horses unfed.

Ms. Hipperson. You ARE brilliant. I feel like I'm sitting in your kitchen. The sideline comments of life in the victorian period are educational and fascinating. Hats off to you, the researchers and writers.

O John T Pokemon I don’t think the strict food hygiene laws would apply here as the food isn’t being sold or served to the public. And you can buy ice at any large supermarket in the UK.
I'm stunned by how much her accent is unchanged! I guess that due to the nature of her job, her speech is also extremely clean and she's dropped most modern slang, so it doesn't randomly pop-up during re-enactments.

Just speaking of female matematicians of the victorian age. Ada Lovelace might be a great role to show that there were indeed exceptions. And personally If I wouldn't have been studying computer science I'd never have come in touch with her at all.
I use antique/vintage cookware all the time. The purpose/use of it is as valid as the day it was made. You just have to make sure there aren't any materials that were then unknown to be toxic (glazes on crockery and such).
Kathy is a such a lovely woman. I've recently made her steamed chocolate pudding for my family and they loved it!(I've never made desserts for my family before and that was my first.) I'll try her Christmas pudding on this Christmas Eve. Keep it up, English Heritage. I'll be rooting for you always.

Why has nobody commented on Annie's incredible big fat smile on her face when she watches Kathy open her present? Priceless!! Also, I just think Mrs. C is just pretending to be a modern day actress. Or a recarnation or something.
Since first encountering Mrs. Crocombe (as portrayed by Kathy Hipperson) I've been absolutely enamored of her. this interview only enhanced the historical "magic" for me. learning about the actress's preferences, how she connects to Mrs. Crocombe, and the process of creating a Mrs. Crocombe video made me appreciate the videos even more! Don't want to spoil the enchantment? Don't watch the video, that's the beauty of UA-cam. @@joansmith69 Are you english ? I don't know how your educationnal system works, but here, we are very lucky ! Beside the french lessons, you have to choose two languages (English and Geman in my case) and if you want to, you can even pick some optionnal classes, like Latin or Greek ! All in public school. It was years ago, and I know that today, the students can choose between a lot of languages, and at a very early age ! :)
@@wikayne Cool! I'm jealous.
I'm Norwegian. Only english and german for me, but you can after three years of german switch to either french or spanish if the school hs the teacher for it!
Shes done a great job with the character. Very natural. I'm amazed how different the real person is.
I love that she's so kind in real life, she gives Mrs. Crocombe a rather sharp and frank manner, but that is the perfect characterization for a head cook. I'm just all around so impressed. I love history and acting and would love to work in living history when I finish my degree
Ms. Hipperson. You ARE brilliant. I feel like I'm sitting in your kitchen. The sideline comments of life in the victorian period are educational and fascinating. Hats off to you, the researchers and writers.
Imagine all the stories Ms Hipperson must be able to tell, from her experiences... what an honour it would be to know her personally! She seems so nice, on top of being highly accomplished in many fields. This video is a treasure, like Kathy herself! I hope she knows the joy she brings us through bringing Mrs Crocombe to life!
🤩 *Kathy has such an amazing way as being Mrs. Crocombe that by the end of the videos I can just imagine Lord & Lady Braybrook entertaining guests upstairs in the dining hall, chattering away while they await their next course. Such a wonderful way to introduce history to the world!* 🤗
Yes, she's so good I wondered if there is a current Mr and Mrs. Braybrook to eat her food. Lol!
She has a UA-cam channel, search Kathy Hipperson
*THIS WOMAN IS MY FAVOURITE ACTRESS NOW!*
I have a question
DO YOU ACTUALLY USE AND ICE BOX
or do you use a fridge
I really want to know.....
-regards
Very curious person
A fridge...obviously.
Jessica Vincent not obviouS to this person.... don’t be an asshole.
If it helps I live in the same town as the house and visit it quite often and I have never seen a fridge there haha
O John T Pokemon I don’t think the strict food hygiene laws would apply here as the food isn’t being sold or served to the public. And you can buy ice at any large supermarket in the UK.
@@laakins I'm from Cincinnati, too!
When Miss Kathy was introduced, let's just say my happiness level reached OVER 9999
Finally I got to see the star who hides behind Ms Crocombe!
I just adore her!
Wonderful job Kathy!

"no, i don't get recognized on the street" believe me dear, you will
I'm stunned by how much her accent is unchanged! I guess that due to the nature of her job, her speech is also extremely clean and she's dropped most modern slang, so it doesn't randomly pop-up during re-enactments.
Haha beware kathy 🤣🤣 we will chase you 😅

Thanks English Heritage. This is a wonderful holiday gift!
Don't worry, the magic will never be broken. At least we know Mrs Hipperson better. Thank you for your amazing work at portraying Mrs Crocombe.
Merci pour le partage. Kathy Hipperson est parfaite pour l'interprétation de Mrs Crocombe et plus encore.
I am not a native English speaker but I surround myself with american media a LOT so I am so very used to American english and you are a great way to learn british english, thank you so much for introducing me to history, historical interpretation and acting, cooking and a different kind of english
Just speaking of female matematicians of the victorian age. Ada Lovelace might be a great role to show that there were indeed exceptions. And personally If I wouldn't have been studying computer science I'd never have come in touch with her at all.
Someone write a Steampunk play for Kathy to play a Victorian mathematician-inventor in! ;-D
I named my daughter Ada after Ada Lovelace❤
I was thinking of making a comment about Ada Lovelace! Instead I'll just upvote yours.
What I like most about the whole cooking thing is watching how they managed to make all of it without the use of modern kitchen equipment.
I use antique/vintage cookware all the time. The purpose/use of it is as valid as the day it was made. You just have to make sure there aren't any materials that were then unknown to be toxic (glazes on crockery and such).
Same!
Kathy is such a smart, elegant and beautiful woman ... (The real) Mrs Crocombe would be extremely proud!
"arent you the most amazing and experienced actor"
"........yes."
I love her
Kathy is a literal icon
Also: The Cult of Mrs Crocombe 😀
We need t-shirts!
The only cult I've ever had an interest in joining.
GATHER AND CROWN THE REAL QUEEN
I almost think she's real she is that good
Bernadette Banner omg... i love your channel!
Did you make the Christmas pudding? How did it go?
“Am I completely stupid for thinking that this entire thing was real, all of the time. Or are you just the most amazing and experienced actor”
“Uh, yes”
(Laughs) #Awkward 😂
😁
Same here I thought everything is real til this interview, anyway it's informative and entertaining... I'm hook already. Ready to learn English heritage another additional for my stack of knowledge, IAM a FILIPINO anyway.
My god! Her gasp when she was flipping the gifted cook book was priceless ❤️
It's about time you show her we've been waiting for centuries LOL
I just love how candid their conversation went. I love Britons on how they talk.
Why has nobody commented on Annie's incredible big fat smile on her face when she watches Kathy open her present? Priceless!!
Also, I just think Mrs. C is just pretending to be a modern day actress. Or a recarnation or something.
This channel is absolutely beautiful. Greetings from Chile
Im obsessed with the line “ for this recipe you will need” so when I saw this 30 min video about Kathy ,clicked and watched ❤️
She must be protected at all cost ♥️ lol love this channel. Great work!
Since first encountering Mrs. Crocombe (as portrayed by Kathy Hipperson) I've been absolutely enamored of her. Now that Kathy has been revealed to those of us who are viewers/followers/fans I'm absolutely enamored of her as well. Kathy and the Avis Crocombe she portrays are orders of magnitude beyond brilliant!. Thank you so much for revealing the amazing woman behind the amazing character. Well done!
I LOVE Kathy's work and all the great videos about Audley End house. Kathy has really brought Mrs. Crocombe to life. Kudos to all of you in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
So much fun to watch - the interaction between these two ladies is genuinely based on friendship and shared humour .
I don’t think y’all realize how much joy this person has given me:)
Ah been waiting for this forever!!! Thank you, English Heritage! Such a fan of Kathy :)
this interview only enhanced the historical "magic" for me. learning about the actress's preferences, how she connects to Mrs. Crocombe, and the process of creating a Mrs. Crocombe video made me appreciate the videos even more! I love seeing older, historical uses for almond flour. (I would quite like to see a jam/jelly/preserve/marmalade recipe from Mrs. Crocombe, as well as how to make candied peel.) Thank you for all your hard work! Love, from the American Midwest
I absolutely love Mrs Crocombe and Kathy. I teach English and I've found her videos so useful, not only for the language, but also for the historical backround. Greetings from Argentina
Don't want to spoil the enchantment? Don't watch the video, that's the beauty of UA-cam.
As for me, I'm always delighted to learn more about historical reenactment from actors and historians who actually make it happen every week, for the pleasure of the History addicted, such as me.
EDIT: She's a medieval reenactor, as me (not on the same level of reeenactment, sadly, since I'm not a professional actress)! Oh, I'm dying!
i found this vid monrths ago wile i was in ghospital for 6 weeks it kept me going as i nearly passed away wasnt supposed to make it well i did and im now watching them all again i adore kathy as im kalled kathy myself im ordering the book as i write to you thank you soso much love kathyx
For this, and this alone, I have maintained my English Heritage membership. This series is the jewel in your crown.
She has such unique beauty and grace
You lady’s look beautiful. Thank you for this great interview!
I just discovered the series. This is awesome for foodies and history buffs like me. Kathy, you play the
role perfectly.
I feel that question "Am I stupid for thinking this was real all of the time." The first time I saw Kathy's Mrs. Crocombe, I seriously thought her name was Mrs. Crocombe and that this was an actually still surviving household that still operated this way. This role was amazing fit for Kathy and she really brings this character to life. This is one of my most favourite series!!
This and Townsends are two great channels on this platform.
I agree! They are so wholesome and educational. I always love watching them and feel like I am back in time.
Both great channels. Introduced to this channel from Townsend's channel.
No youtube drama 2018 🤣
Mark Atkinson Same with me. From the episode when they were sending a package back. I think Doctor Who was the time traveling postman!
I just saw you at Townsend's live stream and here you are! Any other channels I should check out?
