I'm not British so sometimes I wish I could watch more about the history of other parts of the world as well, but they're BBC so I get it (and I still love the British ones so as long as they keep making history docs, I'm not complaining!). It was very much the norm for 'career servants' from what I hear. With the job being as demanding as it was, and most staff living on-site, it left little room for personal relationships. On top of that, staff were discouraged from seeing one another, just like in modern day offices - one wouldn't want a lovers' tiff to spill into the preparation of afternoon tea or end up with the horses unfed.

I agree! They are so wholesome and educational. I always love watching them and feel like I am back in time.
