    I went brushless with my tools and love the battery durability. My 6.25” saw is corded so I always have power and even cuts.

    De walt struggled at beginning competing with other brands they are now taking over. Just bought a 5 piece kit all XR brushless flex volt. 18v drill and impact and 54v angle grinder, recip saw and circ saw. Brilliant kit.

      It’s a nice set hate the drill though..i sold it ASAP and bought a real drill and 2 5amp batteries and I’m very happy with all the tools.

    Where they catch you out is the battery’s and cases, I find that you’ll end up spending more buying it like this, 2 battery’s just isn’t enough building decking for instance you’ll want the drill impact and the circular saw , play one or two in charge, that about 150 in battery’s alone.

    Great kit and $550 isn’t a bad price. Only thing you “may” need to upgrade is the drill but that just depends on if you’re a hobbyist vs a professional. Of course higher Amp hour batteries if needed.

      So far I’m really happy with everything in the kit. The higher ah batteries for sure make a difference.

    For about 20 dollars more a tool you could of got the xr brushless versions. It's night and day with power and energy consumption. Tho the multitool is top notch.

    You may want a 5AH battery for some of those. 5AH battery will give more juice to the heavier tools like the saws.

    I'm sure you considered the corded tools, if money was not an issue, would you recommend the corded over the battery?

    • @jtmoffroad
      @jtmoffroad  6 років тому +2

      I haven’t tried any of the corded dewalt tools but I prefer the cordless dewalt over the corded harbor freight tools. I chose the cordless set because I don’t like messing with extension cords. Much easier to swap a battery between tools than tangle with cords. I also go offroading with my jeep. It’s nice to have cordless tools with me to save time on the trail if things break.

    They should all come with a hammer drill. .... the drill is a toy.

    • @Nightman2152
      @Nightman2152 5 років тому

      All hammer drills are toys. Get a rotary hammer like an adult. It's a jack hammer that drills as opposed to a drill that vibrates.

    • @SeymourButts7817
      @SeymourButts7817 5 років тому

      Paul Day wow really???

    • @Nightman2152
      @Nightman2152 5 років тому +1

      @@SeymourButts7817 Well you asked:
      The hammer drills are fine for making small holes in concrete and block and brick but as soon as they hit something hard (like a piece of gravel in the concrete) they take forever to drill or stop drilling all together. Another thing to note is a hammer drill uses a 3 jaw chuck which is not meant for percussive drilling.
      The way the hammer drills work is built into the hand crank clutch. When you turn the clutch around it tightens a spring as it clicks into the different torque settings. When the spring is loose the clutch gear releases at low torque. When you crank it all the way up to hammer mode it basically uses the spring and the clutch to rattle around the chuck. You can actually overpower the hammer mechanism with too much pressure. Most people do. It's really funny they think it's not working because they're not pushing hard enough so they push harder.
      A rotory hammer like I said is a jack hammer that rotates and hey they're also a mini jackhammer when you turn off drill mode. Most people call them an SDS named after the specialized chuck made popular in german rotary hammers. Not sure if it was bosch or hilti.
      At the end of the day a cordless drill is a multi tool that does a lot of jobs but it isn't a specialized tool. There is a specialized tool for making holes in any material either fast, accurately or both. Most of us need a drill that can make a hole in anything reasonably fast and reasonably accurate and for that any decent drill will do if you know what you're doing.
      If you made it this far it's worth noting they're actually called drill drivers. Drills are what people call drill bits. Drill bits are a made up marketing word that stuck.
      Take this to work tomorrow and impress the old timers. I'm working on a tool talk tangent channel so I don't have to bore everyone with these ramblings. Thanks for reading if you made it this far. Nobody likes reading that's why we're on UA-cam. Shut up Paul you're making them read more.

    I’m a framer, I have all Dewalt 20v,60v,120v tools and all Milwaukee 12v Tools...never ever buy combo kits, buy bare tools or 2 tool kits at most,. The tools in combo kits are subpar and made only for those kits. ...it’s much better to spend a few more dollars and get high end tools.....otherwise just buy Ryobi tool kits

    • @nonamefounder
      @nonamefounder 6 років тому

      Joe Framer what do you mean? The tools that come in the kits have the same part numbers as the bare tools.

    • @powertools2375

      They might not be to end but I can assure you they are better then ryobi by far...I have some green ryobis too

    • @bluegrasskid4835
      @bluegrasskid4835 6 років тому +2

      Pretty sure what Joe means is they generally put the cheapest tools in these kits for a bettwr price. Notice they didn't use any of the XR series except the multi tool. The brush tools are cheaper, the brushless XR series are preferred.

    • @bobsmith-ru4lf
      @bobsmith-ru4lf 5 років тому

      @Chris Jamieson XR does not mean brushless. The kits have a identical parts numbers then those sold individually. Of course, the brushless are more expensive.

    You gonna need a hell of alot more battery for most brushed motors. I got the grinder and it makes like 5 cuts on 5/8 rebar on on battery. I got all brushless on the rest. It costs a bit more but its so worth it. And i got the 60v sawzall and that is a bad mother fucker it will hog through anything i can demo all day on one battery with it and u can use the 60v battery on all the 20v tools. I use it on my impact and i drove about 6000 self tapping screws to make a bunch of headers with heave gauge metal stud over the span of 2 days it i still had 2 bars of battery left

    • @jtmoffroad
      @jtmoffroad  7 років тому +1

      Man that’s sick! Yea after I️ bought my set I️ thought well should I️ have just went with all brushless but for now what I️ have works. Yea they eat batteries for sure. The bigger ah batteries help and thankfully the batteries charge fast so I️ can keep stuff in rotation. Someday I️ may upgrade but for now they’ve been working awesome for what I️ do. HUGE upgrade over all the harbor freight stuff I️ was used to!

    • @larrytraber
      @larrytraber 7 років тому

      jtmoffroad better than harbor freight for sure... I had a hf saw and the piece of crap capped herself in a month so now I have all ryobi. My drill and impact are brushless... The rest are brushed but I wish I got Dewalt. That multitool is way quieter than mine lol I'm jealous. Does the circ saw immediately stop the blade when the blade is installed?

    • @jtmoffroad
      @jtmoffroad  7 років тому

      I’ve had some luck with some harbor freight tools but I️ def wanted to get something better when I️ went all battery. Yea the blade stops immediately when you left off the trigger.

    • @jtmoffroad
      @jtmoffroad  7 років тому +1

      @joseibarra-oo7wd 7 років тому

      I am actually thinking off going whit Milwaukee just because they have a few tools dewalt dont i realy hate haveing difrwnt chargers and batterys like the small hack saw and 3/8 ratchet i need

    • @jtmoffroad
      @jtmoffroad  7 років тому +1

      Yea I️ hear ya on running multiple battery types... I️ really wish dewalt would come out with a cordless ratchet. Ingersol rand has a similar battery style to dewalts so I️ don’t see why dewalt can’t make a ratchet using their 20v max platform. I’m very tempted to just get Milwaukee’s cordless ratchet but I’m gonna hate having two battery types.

    • @joseibarra-oo7wd
      @joseibarra-oo7wd 7 років тому

      I now i am going to give my dewalt to my son and just do all Milwaukee

    • @jtmoffroad
      @jtmoffroad  7 років тому

      the only thing is from what I’ve seen Milwaukee’s 12v is like a tube type style battery but the rest of their 18v is a different style so depending what you’re running you’d still have 2 different battery types or I️ could be mistaken

    yeah they are decent BUT>>>>>>. They stick it to you when it comes to new tech. I have about $1000 worth of the older 18 volt ( the best at that time) tools. So when the lithium stuff started coming out, well what do you do, stay with what you have or ALL NEW? My tools worked but batteries were expensive and NEVER a deal. SO I bought more batteries, then more. Then after the new stuff is out for like years!....they come out with an adaptor to use the new batteries on the 18 volt tools. Ummmm... I think that SIMPLE product should have come out years ago!. So anyway I buy it. 2 skimpy batteries, charger and adaptor. Well after thinkin I'll stay with the old stuff as i'm older and don't want to but 8 new tools, chargers etc. This kit was a big disappointment......ok I know the adaptor adds some size to the tool, but the design is annoying, hard to remove battery on my saw it should slide out the opposite way. Then it also doesn't slide easily. I found this to be the case on my old tools also, sometimes the batteries were hard to slide off. But the BIG disappointment....... My first full charge in the skimpy battery, I cut 12 FEET of 3/4" plywood and......wait for it......................DEAD!!!.... Ok I thought maybe a couple charges and will increase, Nope. All I can say is the batteries included in this adaptor kit which they waited years to finally offer us loyal customers to use the new batteries, well they stink! IF I do change up to the new stuff, I'm looking elsewhere. Screw me once shame on you, twice shame on me.

    • @jtmoffroad
      @jtmoffroad  6 років тому

      Man that sucks you. Unfortunately I think advancing technology is always gonna screw us all over. Same thing with computers and electronic devices. Drop $1000 bucks on something and in 2 years it’s old technology and things become incompatible. Sadly I don’t think this direction will ever change. This was my first big set of power tools and it took me a while to figure out what platform to go with. I’m happy with what I have for what I have to do but I don’t see this being the last of the technological advances with tools. Companies are always gonna want to find a way to make more money and unfortunately we’re the ones getting screwed in the end. I feel for you

    I have lots of dewalt but this here is not a good deal only some of those are xr the other ones are the old versions I feel sorry for this guy he just got robbed

      I ended up getting a price match on it a few weeks later for $550 so ended up being a decent deal. The oscillating tool is the only xr out of the bunch which I’m fine with. This kit was a huge upgrade from what I was using before. Maybe eventually I’ll go to all brushless but for what I do this kit works fine

      No problem, I appreciate the feedback. Over a year later and everything’s still running great. I definitely need a better drill though

      Those are made in Mexico, those tools he got are shit. Idk about the multi tool ive had no experience with it. But I've used all the rest and they suck. You should have gotten milwaukee.

      Only Dewalts brushless XR models are made in USA. Their base models like in the video are made abroad. In was going to buy Dewalt because I thought they were US made but unfortunately they're not, so I bought Makita. If I had the money to spend I would have gone Dewalt XR but I'm not a contractor; I'm a student. My Grandpa has been a carpenter for 20+ years and prefers Dewalt but I've seen Makita's performance first hand and decided they're quality enough for me.
