The people he loved needed him to endure and he endured without question, I don’t think any other resident evil character was so aggressively characterized by their love for his/her family. It wasn’t about good or evil, nor justice or revenge. Just a simple man ready to endure and overcome anything for the people he cared about.

If you were a time traveler, and told me 4 years ago that Ethan would become complex and cement himself amongst great RE characters like Leon and Jill, I would be in complete disbelief. Father of the year right there, this game actually made me want to have more stories with Ethan, but this is already a perfect ending for him. It's emotional, yet it's legendary.

You could hear the fear in his voice when he was about to use the detonator. It's the only part of the game where you can tell he's genuinely afraid. It's a nice touch because before this point in the game he probably thinks that he can't die, as he had survived lethal falls, having parts of his extremities severed, being impaled, and other things that would have killed any normal person in seconds. After learning the truth he realized that he can die, and he only showed the fear he had inside until the end, after everything was over, and when Ethan finally had a chance to really reflect on how terrifying his situation really is. He was never genuinely afraid of death before this point, and I find that to be a great detail.
Fun fact: One of the notes this guy missed in the lab revealed Miranda to be the "grandmother" of the Umbrella corporation. A mothers desire to bring back her child caused so much death and destruction

Darn it, this could have turned into one of the best face reveals in video game history! How cool would it have been if just before hitting the detonator, the camera pulls away from first person and pans around to show Ethan's face just before he blows the place sky high. This ending still breaks my heart, solely on how much Ethan sacrificed in this duology for his family... a family that mostly brought it uppon themselves. The big plot twist from 7 (besides the Eveline Granny one) was that Mia was actually a bioterrorist - that Ethan, a regular man, risked everything and went through hell and high water to save the woman he loved, whom was actually a big time criminal who DEFINITELY didn't deserved him screwing his life because of it. Every time I rewatch the ''You were dead since the Baker house'' plot twist my stomach grips: Mia condemned Ethan to death by her actions, and even after getting away from it all, he was the one who paid the ultimate price in Village, because her past came to bite her AGAIN.

That's exactly what makes him special. It's cliche, but it seems to me that clearly that was the message of RE8 to answer the people who criticized Ethan as the Protag of RE7 back when it released.
Yeah i must say that Ethan is the perfect B.O.W because despite of him being infected he's still a human not only in physical way but also in his state of mind, now that his daughter also posses the same trait as him Rose will have massive advantages to take on while also being the best RE protagonist that we can ever get in the future.

You could hear the fear in his voice when he was about to use the detonator. It's the only part of the game where you can tell he's genuinely afraid. It's a nice touch because before this point in the game he probably thinks that he can't die, as he had survived lethal falls, having parts of his extremities severed, being impaled, and other things that would have killed any normal person in seconds. After learning the truth he realized that he can die, and he only showed the fear he had inside until the end, after everything was over, and when Ethan finally had a chance to really reflect on how terrifying his situation really is. He was never genuinely afraid of death before this point, and I find that to be a great detail.

That crack on Chris's voice when he said "I tried". It really hurts him that Everytime someone helps him in a mission they don't make it but he does.
Chris has seen about 3-4 people he knew "die" right before his eyes. So hearing him struggle to keep his composure and respond without crying really shows that he still is affected by failing to save those who cares about
I am sure Chris was having some PTSD with Piers on the chopper. That "I tried" was heartbreaking, amazing Voice acting there.
Definitely holds more weight when you know what Chris has gone through in past entries.

This ending still breaks my heart, solely on how much Ethan sacrificed in this duology for his family... a family that mostly brought it uppon themselves. The big plot twist from 7 (besides the Eveline Granny one) was that Mia was actually a bioterrorist - that Ethan, a regular man, risked everything and went through hell and high water to save the woman he loved, whom was actually a big time criminal who DEFINITELY didn't deserved him screwing his life because of it. Every time I rewatch the ''You were dead since the Baker house'' plot twist my stomach grips: Mia condemned Ethan to death by her actions, and even after getting away from it all, he was the one who paid the ultimate price in Village, because her past came to bite her AGAIN.
