Ethan marched into hell twice for his family. He never did anything wrong. The people he loved needed him to endure and he endured without question, I don’t think any other resident evil character was so aggressively characterized by their love for his/her family. It wasn’t about good or evil, nor justice or revenge. Just a simple man ready to endure and overcome anything for the people he cared about.

If you were a time traveler, and told me 4 years ago that Ethan would become complex and cement himself amongst great RE characters like Leon and Jill, I would be in complete disbelief.
