The fact that Devin Booker wasn't a starter on this team shows how stacked this squad was
Gregory Ford facts
Yep...Calipari paid good money for this team.
TheBsheep because that makes sense
TheBsheep or maybe he’s a good recruiter for a school with a rich basketball history?
Trenton Martin I mean it’s true
I’ve been a UK my whole life as long as I can remember. My earliest memories were watching mashburn in the early 90’s. This was the most heartbreaking loss by a mile nothing even comes close.
Duke 92’ way worse
@@bradsargent1907 I understand. I was too young for that one
I’m not a big college basketball fan, but I do love the tournament. I can’t I imagine my team being 2 wins away from a perfect season and then losing! As far as the 1992 Duke game in the elite 8, that was also devastating for Kentucky fans. I would put both losses as a 10 for heartbreak…..Each for different reasons!
Dont fret. Look up 75 ncaa final. Jack Givens was on fire.
They won 3 years prior
The loss to Duke in 92 and the loss to Wisconsin are the two that will haunt this Kentucky fan until the day I die. The two teams that I thought could beat Kentucky were Wisconsin and Arizona and Duke while good I thought Kentucky matched up with them really well. Wisconsin pulled the upset if you want to call it an upset. The Badgers made the plays late and the Wildcats didn’t but my lord what a season that was in 2015. GO CATS!!!!
As a badger fan, I am honored to haunt a Kentucky fan for his life. You guys are one of the most storied. But let me tell you, I have never felt so much heartbreak watching Coach K finally break down the refs in the 2nd half of that championship.
Ryan No Thanks See that was the problem you guys didn’t finish the job and beat Duke. Some bad calls in the second half of the Duke-Wisconsin game. Wisconsin beat Kentucky but I was a Badgers fan when they played Duke.
Jeffery Preece Notre dame was awesome those years and it was good to get revenge
@@MrMashman93 MrMashman, I'll give you that loss to us in '92 as heartbreaking because it's still to this day the greatest NCAA tournament game of all-time! But there were no losers that night and remember all that you'd been through in the recent years leading up to that game! The fact you made it that far with that team was absolutely remarkable considering where you'd come from! There's never been a team that didn't win a national championship which deserved more credit than those Unforgettables who stuck it out when Kentucky needed them the absolute most! And I have and still do the utmost respect for them! Btw don't forget that you stuck it back to us in the '98 Elite 8 enroute to a national championship so it worked both ways for the two of us
@@bradlewis6514 Agreed
Such a great game! Miss this WI team and miss college basketball 😢
Same bro
it was a good game i respect the wisconsin team but i was so sadddd/mad that day
The year before this game, being up by two then to lose to a game winning shot by this Kentucky team in the final 4, just to come back the next year against the same team who is undefeated at 38-0 and beat them. This was Wisconsin’s championship game.
And it was a fluke too. Kaminsky, Dekker, Hayes all became irrelevant after this. Kaminsky has to be one of the biggest disappointments going from college to NBA in the past 15 years. Everyone said he'd dominate in the NBA and no one ever heard a peep out of him 😂
@@jeremydalton3125Kentucky still lost.
Yo I’m an Aussie and I love US College sports, it’s very interesting and wish Australia had the same concept. Go Oregon Ducks respect to America ✊
I cannot believe how they changed the style next year. It just makes this game look so old yet so recent.

Dekker’s shot is still one of the most cold blooded shots I’ve ever seen. That shot into the charge was so clutch.
You don't get a cold blooded shot with 1:40 left in the game. It's just a shot. If that's the best you've ever seen, then watch more basketball.
Dale Press Kentucky never got the lead back after Dekker put them up with not only that three and the free throw the next possession and to top it off he drew the charge, it was a cold blooded shot
You want to talk cold blooded shots, look up the, 1992 elite 8 game. 😜😜😜
And not just that three either! When he was the MVP of the West Regional, some of the shots he hit against Arizona were downright insane! Dekker was in a zone up until the championship game when Duke neutralized him! That was a major key! Wisconsin doesn't even make that FF without Dekker!
clutch doesn't mean cold blooded
in close games every shot is clutch anyways
I’m a diehard Kentucky fan and honestly it was hard to be mad after that loss, going 38-1 and making that run the whole season really was special to follow all year. Gotta give it to Wisconsin , they played great, and it just wasn’t meant to be for the perfect season!
Calipari screaming at his team every single possession is so funny. It looks like he was as stressed as is players were. Meanwhile Bo always calm and collected. Possible reason Badgers looked more composed the entire game
He refused to game plan for WIsconsin. He deserves the L for that level of arrogance.
John Calipari and Sean Miller (both Pittsburgh born coaches who have known each other) have been known to be very antsy by every possession.
lots of coaches yell at their team when they mess up
I am forever grateful I got to see this game live. I come back to this before the final 4 every year. My all time fav game and I'm a duke fan. A team waited one year after heart break. Going against 38-0 and didn't shy away from the moment. This or umbc vs Virginia will always hold the highest spots in my heart

Man, that non-shot clock violation was an absolute game changer.
There were egregious misses prior to that that favored Kentucky. It evened out.
what about the no-call on Lyles
@@conormcginnity1353 that was such a pivotal moment of the game, though, and that was as egregious as it gets considering the magnitude of the moment. That’s the difference. And we have our full squad with a healthy Alex Poythress, we win going away.

38-1 dawg wisconsin get back goes crazy
Winslow touched it
YES!
🤣🤣🤣
Foot was out as well :(
Winslow call was 50/50. As for him "stepping out of bounds" he got pushed out. Tyus was fouled on the homerun layup attempt that resulted in Wisconsin rebound and layup to cut the game to 3 pts. Oh let's not forget the gift call you got vs UK here. Take your Runner-Up and move on.
@@jayzee7538 No it wasn't rofl his finger bent backwards. Also you mean the half a second late shot clock 2 possessions after Gasser got decked in the face and no foul was awarded even after review.
Remember that I picked the final 4 correctly this year, which was crazy because it was a 1, 1, 1, and a 7. Michigan state surprised everyone that year. I picked Wisconsin to beat duke which I regretted lol.
I did the same thing you did.
I know it will be MSU vs Louisville in the Elite 8. Nova was seeded so high this tourney

You know what’s crazy Wisconsin faced both Arizona and Kentucky at both Elite 8 and Final 4 respectively for those two years.
and Oregon in the Round of 32! crazy how that worked out 3 of the same matchups in back to back years.
@@charliecarroll33 that is actually not talked about enough. The odds of that are astronomical.

The fact that Wisconsin won this game even tho Kentucky started so strong
Viper the fact is, you are still full of salt 5 years later
@@antonfilms4023 yup. Take off your rose colored glasses and watch the last 5 minutes. Yall committed enough fouls in the last 5 to foul out your entire team...twice. Man, Kaminsky's go to move was an offensive foul that was called as a defensive foul that had our big men in foul trouble all game. Even without all of that, if you take away the shot clock not violation and gasser jumping back inbounds and catching a pass before his feet touched the floor, its tie ball game, our ball, shot clock off. Btw, one of the refs in this game is NEVER allowed to ref a kentucky game again.....because he did the same thing two years later. Two national championships stolen in 3 seasons.
But laughing at yall talking about bad officiating two nights later was hilarious. I got banned from every wisconsin forum i could find.
@@wesleypriddy8698 🧂🧂🧂 This game still living rent free in your head all these years later
@@wesleypriddy8698 salty
@@wesleypriddy8698 y'all could've put it away without those shot clock violations. regardless of officiating (which was bad on both ends), kentucky had plenty of chances to pull away but wisconsin defended them well. had to try smart basketball, not just dumping it inside or throwing a lob
This waz like a double dagger to us UK fans, lose a perfect season in the final four, then Duke wins it all....
Yeah but in the overall spector of things, u should have been more than proud of what Kentucky accomplished that season! Although there's one thing I told several of my college basketball friends going into that NCAA tournament! And it was how would Kentucky respond under pressure in a tight NCAA tournament game (same scenario as 1991 UNLV, in fact, almost an exact microcosm) because like that Vegas team within it's conference, Kentucky took advantage of a down year for the rest of the SEC! Had five teams make the Dance and only that Kentucky squad made the second weekend and I think that close call against ND in the Elite 8 exposed the 'Cats invincibility a bit! I honestly believe even had Kentucky won that title, that your 2012 team would still beat them! Anthony Davis is the biggest mismatch of a player in Kentucky's long history!
WI will probably never have a team like this again.
Kentucky went cold offensively the last 6 or so minutes of this game, they scored at about the 6 and half mark and didn't score again until their were 56 seconds left in the game, and they had at least 3 shot clock violations in that span, not to mention that shot clock violation against Wisconsin that was not called, bottom line things went from really good to really bad for Kentucky at the end of the game and it cost them a shot at undefeated season (BTW i am not a fan of either teams just calling it like I see it)
Yeah but the no call on the flagrant slap to the face evens it out. That took another potential 4-5 points off the board for Wisconsin. I just give props to the badgers for being a much better defensive and possession oriented team.
@@joerussell838 Two bogus charging calls took another 5 points off the board for Wisconsin. Things were not even.
@@chriskay1449 I see 4 bogus calls on Wisconsin down the stretch. You lost little boy...
@@joerussell838 LOL only one was close to bogus. Here are the bogus calls Kentucky got:
Bogus charge call against Gasser. Should have been a no-call
Lyles slugging Gasser in the face no call, not even after replay
Bogus charge call on Hayes. Should have been a blocking foul on Townes.
Bogus blocking foul on Kaminsky. Should have been a charge on Harrison
I didn't lose. You and Kentucky did. 38 and done. Enjoy the loss.
Kentucky was charged with shot clock violations on three consecutive possessions (5+, 4+, 3+ minutes left), but the second one was incorrect...the ref by the ball called the missed shot out of bounds (which was correct)...the ref on the wing called shot clock violation...that's what the scorer went with. Not that it mattered.
One of my favorite memories ever is watching this game with my dad. On Wisconsin.
1:09:05 Step Back Jack
Interesting to note that Bo Ryan’s first Sweet 16 had concluded in a loss to Kentucky (2003).
7 years later, Kentucky and Wisconsin were in the EAST bracket in Calipari’s first season at UK (Cornell beat both Temple and Wisconsin).
Earlier in the 2009-10 season, Wisconsin beat eventual champion Duke in Madison.
to this day I wake up in cold sweats thinking about this game
It hurts. But time and perspective does wonders. At the end of the day, Kentucky had one the best college teams of all time, went up against probably one of two teams that was a matchup nightmare for them and did not hit shots at the end. UW had great defense and straight up play makers. It's a missed opportunity, but in the NCAA tournament ANYTHING can happen. It's why teams should relish any National Championships they have, because it aint easy to win six in a row in a single game elimination tournament.
Kentucky will get #9, it's not a matter of if, but when!
UK Late execution showed Cal’s inability to coach in the clutch! Wisconsin had no business on the floor with that team!
One of the greatest college basketball games of all time
Wisconsin, having seen Kentucky oust them by a point in the previous Final Four was more than ready.
An additional reason why I figured a Kentucky-Duke title game was not happening, was Michigan St guaranteeing two Big Ten teams in the Final Four.
Louisville should've beat mich st
Why do KAT and Cauley-Stein look too big for the court? 🤣
I still can't believe Kentucky lost this Game!!
"Guys, How do you beat Kentucky"
Wisconsin:
The back to back game in 14 and 15 between these two teams was amazing
This one was so classic
This had to be a cool story eliminated the year before by Kentucky in final four, beats them in the final four rematch giving Kentucky their only lost of the season (like a movie)
And to this day, Kentucky has not made it back to the Final Four
This is the last time Kentucky was in the Final Four to this day
This is I believe the best moment Badger athletic history ever!
As a Florida fan I loved watching this game live, thanks Wisconsin even though u guys didn’t win the National Championship
Man these refs were awful. Terrible calls/missed calls on both ends and why tf was Booker not playing for like 10 minutes in the second half
He got exposed defensively in this game
i remember crying after this game
Upload the Kentucky/Notre Dame elite 8 game.
Cal lost Kentucky this game with his idiotic platooning (yes, I know they were undefeated up to that point using it). It never made sense to me the entire year that Cal insisted on playing the Harrison twins so so much to the detriment of better players (obviously D Book but Ullis was also better than both the Harrison twins, even though this one was close bc Ullis had a high TO rate-equal to Andrew’s-and was small for certain defensive matchups, at least he was a very good shooter/passer). I was rooting heavily for Wisconsin, so I enjoyed the poor coaching, but it was PAINFULLY obvious to me that the Ullis/Booker (two 40+% knockdown 3pt shooters with Ullis also being an elite passer/ball thief and Booker able to get to any spot and score with insane efficiency) backcourt was so much more dynamic and skilled than the Harrison twins. Kentucky fans argue, but Cal just isn’t great tactically and scheme wise. That 2015 is one of the 5 best of the decade and didn’t win it all because of the rotation and the fact that they should’ve played even faster (were 100th in offensive pace) with a more modern offense (Ullis/KAT PnR with Booker flying around off of screens). Harrison twins should’ve been 10-15 min a night players.
Tyler Ulis is still the best PG l've ever seen in college. Better than Kyrie, Wall, Bledsoe, Trey Burke, Fox, and anyone l watched (maybe except Ja Morant)
Gregory Ford You can’t forgot about Kemba Walkers amazing March Madness run
wesley8173 he said the best POINT GUARD. Not the most dominant.
@wesley8173 l didn't watch CP in college. As an undercontrol PG that can play D and faliciate, but get a bucket when he needed I'm taking him over Kemba, Shabazz Napier, and Russ Smith.
Trae Young was super nice ngl, but he had a super high ussage rate and played every second and average a worse AST/TO rate... and can't defend like Ulis.
@@GregoryFord98 yeah Gregory, but your missing the most important component in your attempt at a comparison! Napier, Walker and Russ Smith all led their squads to a national championship and Ulis didn't! And all three of those guys played extremely pivotal roles in their teams' title runs! Napier was the NCAA tournament's Most Outstanding Player in 2014! So your logic gets trumped on Ulis being better when it mattered the most
Those shot clock violations will haunt me forever
also it was a 35 second vioaltion
Someone got the Notre Dame vs Kentucky elite eight game?
Man i thought it was going to be UK v Duke in the final
1:01:26 ......just a reminder that they reviewed that, and called "no-call". WHAT? Tell me the NCAA doesn't try to swing game results again...
If that was truly the case Wisconsin would have beat duke that year, duke player inbounding the ball with a few seconds left, clearly his foot was on the line not behind it like it is stated in the rules yet it was a no call , duke scores game over, one bad call all it took.
Why couldn't the outcome be different😮💨
Wisconsin will never be this good again. This team was amazing.
Man Cal keeping Andrew Harrison in at the end to protect his draft stock just is so poetic. Losing a shot at history bc you put one player above the rest of the team, the program, the fans, etc. And what good did that do for Harrison? He’s not even good enough to play in the NBA. lost a lot of respect for Cal after that game. Haven’t been to a Final 4 since, and that player first, team second philosophy is the reason why.
PrinceOfM4rs20 __ can you further explain how was he protecting his draft stock and why did he do that?
It was a 2 point game with 12 seconds left, I dont think it's a big deal to leave one of your best tournament players in the game til the end at that point.
YOu mean the Aaron Harrison who made the GW 3 the year before against this same Wisconsin team? Yeah, what was Cal thinking putting the ball in the hands of the guy who won the game the year before.

LOL Lylespunched Gasser in the face and got no call. Refs even saw it clearly on replay and still refused to call it. . Kentucky got away with a ton of stuff. Try again.
People always say he went with the the twins over booker and after watching this game again. Booker was getting picked on whoever he was guarding they attacked he scored well for the mins he had but definitely defended poorly . That’s the only reason Tyler played so much. What went wrong was lack of outside shooting since Booker wasn’t on the court and Ulis probably would’ve hit a shot Harrison hits those 2 floaters we don’t lose this game
Duke vs Wisconsin?
Kentucky hadn’t been the same since this game. Still haven’t been back to a final four since that season.
Cal even hinted that he only cares for developing players instead of driving for championships after losing to Saint Peter’s this year, I think it’s safe to say his drive and hunger for another championship died after the Wisconsin loss

@@llehctim.45they haven’t been the same. This game and the UNC loss with Fox and Monk broke Calipari.
@@tonymontana2340 I don’t think he’s broken. The last few years have been chaotic and have caused a major shift in college basketball. Covid, the transfer portal and NIL. He may not be as quick as others to adapt to all the changes. His teams also haven’t been as talented which is expected when you’re getting 2 or 3 players from the portal. I think another thing too is that he’s a better coach for younger teams. He’s a very nurturing and protective type of coach. All these juniors and seniors that either stay at Kentucky or come from the transfer portal aren’t as talented as the lottery pick freshman and sophomores. The older players also don’t need the nurturing and protectiveness simply because they have plenty of experience

What has Kentucky done since - besides losing to Robert Morris in the NIT and to a 15 seed last year 😂😂😂😂😂. Trash trash trash 🗑️🗑️
Kentucky hasn’t been the same since this loss either. Granted they’re still known as one of the upper programs but losing to a 15 seed in St. Peter’s from the MAAC (10th time a 2 seed lost to a 15) and never making a Final Four since this loss as well, I’d say things are arguably worse for Kentucky. As for Wisconsin, they made a Sweet 16 in 2017 and still are a fairly regular tournament presence although they haven’t gone very far.
Kentucky lost because they went scoreless for 5 minutes from 6:00 to 1 minute left in the game. All those 5 stars and a drought like that is terrible with that much at stake
