      pretty believable but many may disagree on Duolingo because of the random sentence formation, e.g translate i ate a dog with a tail in dutch. pretty random

      busuu cuz it just doesnt make me always translate the sentences I learn or sometimes just guess its meaning like doulingo but busuu also have a special thing which is to interact with the community of the target language and practice with them and they also practice with you your language if they are learning it and its perfect for practicing speaking skill and guess what its for freeee!!

      My favorite is drops and scripts as far as apps go because scripts has been great to get my foot into the door of chinese characters and how to get the stroke order and drops is so gameified and easy to use and it's been my start of the day and soothe before sleep routine for quite some time now. Most of my studying though (like grammar and sentence structure) is in books and audio files such as podcast lessons but as far as apps go drops has become a good pal. It gives vocabulary boost in the topics I feel are interesting, fun or useful and during a big discount I bought the lifetime premium to get the training dojo and to get rid of the time restriction but even as the free version I super loved the 5 minutes after waking up routine.

      If you somehow extract value out of Lingq perhaps you could do a separate video on how you are using it or how to navigate it.

    I learned quite a bit of German on Duolingo to prepare for my trip to Germany. Only once I had arrived did I realize my mistake. I could quite confidently explain to all the Germans what the loaves on their restaurant tables were by saying, "Das ist brot" (This is bread,) but I could not ask where the bathroom was or say anything else useful.

    I love to use FluentU, reverso context and Linguee. FluentU is like watching UA-cam videos with subtitles, you can click on a word and see an example on how to use it, pronounce it, etc. The videos are also organized in levels. Sadly, it's billable. These two, Reverso context and Linguee are the best dictionaries you'll ever find. I always look up an expression whose meaning i don't know and they lay it out for you in a simple way.

In my country that's not even minimum wage and for them it's really helpful to make a living. But i can also understand, that some people are on a tight budget and want to learn for free. I personally don't like flashcards/anki. It always feels robotic, monotonous, and boring, so I don't use it. Some people swear by it so more power to them but it just isn't for me. Getting real input from the language is my preferred method of spaced repetition.

    • @cinziadam2990
      @cinziadam2990 3 роки тому +4

      Real input is super important! I think flashcards are a useful tool though, that you can ADD to the mix. No method or app should be used alone without anything else, even the most "complete". So for example you can initially (or at the same time) learn words with spaced repetition and then used them in a real conversation or hear them in a movie, then you get to remember them much better.
      Anki is boring but it's also just a empty tool... There's other apps who try to make it fun, you can use memes, drawings and whatever you like. The more fun the more you remember, so I think if you hate flashcards it's better to find another way for the vocabulary part

    I realize a lot of the language app ranking videos I've seen are older so maybe Mem Rise updated afterwards but I don't understand all the bad rankings. I really like it. They went around and had native speakers saying the words and phrases (super helpful to hear everything in a non-computer generated voice!), there are funny, tiktok style videos (which crack me up and help me remember things better), and they added Membot AI conversation tool. I liked it enough that I bought a lifetime plan to it. No regrets on the purchase after 6 months.

    Not sure about this but ik, its just your opinion :) Duolingo for instance is usable free, helpful and fun but you dont learn a language with it at all, same as flash card trainers like Anki. To me both are nice additions/pieces in the whole process. Babbel for example is more than that, unfort. 300 $ lifetime is expensive. But I would still rank it higher than Duolingo since it teaches a lot apart from actual practicing in real life.

Playing around with other apps that feature Gaelic and I'm finding Duo was the easiest to keep up with regularly.
