Please!! I Was Waiting For This Video!! From Showing Us The The Two Comparison's Language Speaking 🗣️ Learning Apps!! That Teaches 📝 To Speak Different Languages.
I've just started using Pimsleur. What I immediately liked about it is that it is heavily focussed on getting you to listen to and participate in coversations. This is the reason why I switched from Babbel. Babbel has it's strengths but for me the most important thing is learning how to actually converse in French which is something Pimsleur does better.
Yeah I think apps like Babbel are just for vocab basically. Yeah it helps you form sentences but I feel like actually hearing the language spoken is what is a game changer for me. I learned French and still find it extremely hard to understand spoken French. I haven’t tried French on pimsleur but I’m starting Spanish and it’s significantly easier to understand and respond quicker when the person is speaking. I love it! I don’t think it’s just cuz Spanish is easy.
Think about it people spend upwards of 100 dollars a month on a gym membership and hardly ever go and the gym never called them to ask them to come. Doing both babel and pimsleur every month is still way cheaper and less physically painful.
These are my two favorite language apps. Great comparison and conclusion. If you can afford it get both. Hold out a while before you purchase. I did this with both Babbel and Pimsleur. Babbel offered me a 2 year subscription with all 13 languages for $126. Pimsleur offered a yearly subscription for all 51 languages which was $164.95 or $13.75 per month down from $20.95. That’s 34% off.
I have done all 150 lessons of Mandarin Chinese for Pimsleur, four times each. I really enjoyed it, and did it every day for my first few years of learning. I have been studying Chinese for 4,5 years now and while I have not used Pimsleur in a long while, I would recommend it for someone wanting to start learning a language and picking up speaking ability. I was using Pimsleur before I could read or write Chinese. I wouldn't recommend using it (or any language learning tool/app) in isolation though. Babbel sounds cool, based on this review I wanted to check it out. Unfortunately, it looks like Chinese is not an option, nor do they seem to have any Asian languages. Shame really, sounded like it would be cool compliment to my studies. Bit surprised how limited the language options are. Glossika I think is a great compliment to Pimsleur though for even more listening and speaking practice. For learning the grammar and writing and such, a textbook and some kind of structured online course really is essential in my opinion though.
My boyfriend has been working in Germany for more than 2 years, and I go visit him from time to time, now I'm seriously considering learning German, so I'm gonna try these two apps and hopefully surprise him the next time I go there! Thanks for sharing
I work in the mental health field and I recently moved to an area where a lot more Spanish is spoken. I want to learn to speak Spanish better so that I can converse with people in my community and use it in a professional setting, as well. Thanks for this comparison between Pimsleur and Babbel. It was very helpful! I think that I might try to go with both!
I appreciate it when someone goes in depth with a vs video. I’m starting to try and learn Spanish because I have two brother in laws who are from Mexico and Spain so having a conversation can be difficult a lot of times.
I took Spanish only one year in high school (a very long time ago!) and have always wished that I knew more of the language. Now, I am getting ready to work with refugee children from Central America, and would like to be able to better communicate with them. I think I am going to follow your suggestion of using a combination of both Pimsleur and Babbel, to give myself the best chance of a jump start!
only just started trying both, and i really like pimsleur because i always need to work more on my listening and speaking skills anyways, and then duolingo is always there for free to fill in the blanks, and duolingo is more fun than babbel to be real
I'm trying to learn Brazilian Portugese! I've been with my boyfriend, who's Brazilian, for almost 6 years and I feel it's time I finally learn Portuguese. There are words and phrases I can understand, but I want to be conversational. Thank you for this comparison review! I am thinking of going with Babbel :)
Brazilian portuguese is easier than it seems, don't be afraid of making mistakes, us (brazilians) make simple portuguese mistakes and it's okay, life goes on
Your videos are so helpful. I'm trying to decide which program would be best for me as Black Friday and Cyber Monday approach. I appreciate that you break the courses down so much!
Thank you for the review. This information helped me make a decision. I chose Babbel. I love that I'm able to read and hear the conversations and that I'm able to test my conversation skills and be rated within the apo. It's also helpful as I make mistakes. I'm able to go back and review and correct them.
I'm a children's librarian and the goal of learning Spanish is to be able to share storytime early literacy content with our Hispanic families and share the tools we have for school readiness. Early literacy .makes such a huge difference in school success! I feel like I could do my job so much better if I gain fluency in Spanish.
This was really helpful and helped me to consider Pimsleur over Babbel. I've been learning french since Grade 5 and feel that I know book french rather than conversational french. I can read easily but struggle to follow real life conversations with the speed and slang being used. I can actually see doing both in time but right now my goal is to speak to the same level as my reading and grammar knowledge.
I am learning a new language of Italian because I am in the military, stationed in Italy, so I want to be able to talk to people in this country where I will be a resident for the next 3-4 years. I love Pimsleur, but my wife isn't a big fan, so I am considering getting the Babbel lifetime membership for her, and using it myself alongside Pimsleur.
Thank you for this! Just took a 2 week trip to France and now I’m dying to be able to communicate with my partner who’s first language is French! I may just have to do both Babbel and pimsleur because I know how crucial grammar is for French language
Awesome video! I recently started learning French because I went on a mission trip to Montreal. While quite a few people in Montreal speak English, I think it would be really nice to speak to them in there native tongue next year when I go again.
Thanks for this great comparison video... I've been wanting to learn Spanish for years! I'm a singer in a Tribute band in London, England and our guitarist is half Spanish. He has offered to have Spanish conversation with me, so I just want to really get my teeth into a good course. I'm just trying to decide which one would suit me better..
I feel like the longer lessons would more likely cause the lessons to be remembered. I'm currently using Busuu but I feel like I'm forgetting a lot since the lessons are so short. Ultimately I'm learning a new language to have more access to another culture. As I said before, I find the German language to be the most appealing, and the people seem really friendly and warm towards people learning their language.
I have traveled extensively and lived in Asia, Europe, and South America and have studied languages since childhood (Spanish, German, Mandarin, and Japanese). Now I’m focusing on different languages because I know full it make future trips to my next countries (Egypt, Pakistan, India) so more enjoyable. The locals ALWAYS appreciate English-speakers who are at least semi-functional in their language and they are more willing to help you during your trip. Plus, if you really hit it off you got a new lifelong friend. Nothing like expanding your mind!
thank you for the informative review! I just finished the 7-day trial with pimsleur and just signed up for the annual subscription. To me, the biggest selling point, other than many mentioned in this video already, is that pimsleur offers spanish (spain - castilian). Not sure if babble offers that option as well, but from what I gathered by glancing at the main page, it doesn't seem so. And this option isn't available in Duolingo either.
The video was very helpful. I had bought Pimsleur CD's a few years ago. I'm going to listen to them and maybe use Babbel also because i am a little ADD and I'm a visual person, or Rocket. I'm looking to learn different languages, particularly Spanish, since I'm Latino but speak very little Spanish. After that, maybe in future, learn other languages because it would be very cool to be able to speak to other people in their native language and to see their surprise on their faces, would be fun, and make friends. Any suggestions you might have which might be best would be appreciated. Thank You!
After watching your comparison of Babbel, Duolingo, and Rosetta Stone. I changed my choice from Duolingo to Babbel ... now after watching this one, I think Pimsleur is a better fit. Thanks.
Another great review, I'm very satisfied with Babbel and I also like that the lessons are not too long, so you can always learn in between. However, the concept of Pimsleur also sounds interesting.
I am keen to gain French fluency as my work responsibilities cover countries where French or French based language is the main form of communication . Thank you for these insightful videos🎉.

I’m learning a couple new languages, because a lot of my friends speak different languages and it would be so nice to be able to communicate with them in their native language. I’m also planning to travel in the summer and would like to be able to have conversations with locals.
So sorry to comment on this oddity, but I'm a Voice Actor myself and so it just jumps at me: I've never heard someone speak like you before. you have such clear pronunciation, all the way up until maybe the last 2-3 words of a sentence. Then you just suddenly speed up _a lot_ and it almost feels like you simply let the last few words tumble to the ground while you exhale. Good examples are 1:10 "lessonstocomplete", 1:41 onwards "exercises" at the end of the sentence is about half as short as it is a few second later in the middle of a sentence. 2:05 The whole sentence is pronounced crispy clear except for the last word "material". Anyways, try to not drop the end of a sentence! (I'm enjoying the content, please don't view this as hate!)
Thanks. I think subscribing to both will work out best for me. I was already thinking that but when you said it was confirmation. Thanks for the insightful video.
Excellent comparison review! In your conclusion, you even hit upon what I was actually thinking. You suggested the possibility of using both apps to complement each other. I think that is what I will go with. Thank you. 👍🏾
I have Duo Lingo and Babble. I’m tempted to also get Pimsleur and do them all at once. Plus I have a girlfriend who’s native language is Spanish. So there’s that.
Pimsleur is fantastic. I love how it starts having you construct new sentences based on things you’ve learned in other sentences. It really engages my brain. Babbel is better than Duolingo imo, but it doesn’t hold a candle to Pimsleur from my experience.
Having been a big Pimsleur fan for years, I got on to Babbel to try Latin American Spanish. My struggle with Babble for that module, it only goes to A2. I need to be B1-B2 but they do not offer it. FYI
I would like to help refugees with interpreting. Just being someone to help them get settled or whatever they need as far as school, work and housing. I have a 30 day streak on Duo learning Arabic. I also started the free trial on Pimsleur learning Dari. I’ve really been enjoying Pimsleur. I feel I’ve definitely gotten more out of it conversationally compared to Duo. But I feel Duo does better on learning alphabets and reading the languages. Just my little 2 cent review on the two apps I’ve tried. 🤷🏼♀️
I’m stuck with finding the right platform. I would love the chance for a free go in the monthly drawing. I’m happy to see this side by side comparison to help!
After listening to you I had already thought both together would be great lol. I married a Korean woman and would love to speak to her in her native language. I asked her friend and wrote phonetically how to ask her to marry me
I am grateful for this honest review. It saved me a ton of time trying to research it myself. Plus maybe I will win a subscription to my first choice Pimsleur🙂 I choose it because I can do half the lesson while driving my kids around to soccer.
If you have the time and funds to use both, I highly recommend. These two make a good combo. Having to reconcile what you learn across both platforms makes you think critically and helps the material to stick IMO
John, I just started Pimsleur Japanese…. What app would you add as a combo? And , what schedule? Both each day, Pimsleur on some days and app 2 on the other days?Thanks..
For Japanese, I'd recommend combining Pimsleur with Memrise. They complement each other extremely well. One is audio and one is visual. I would stack lessons every other day to give your brain time to process the different modes of learning. Good luck!
@@TestPrepInsight John, I just downloaded Memrise… there are two Japanese, one with mostly hiragana and katakana, the other without. Which one should I go with in combo with Pimsleur… I really appreciate your input..ciao, John

I was looking between babbel and Pimsleur the main problem with babbel is no Korean language course
Thank u for your review. It was helpful in my decision between the two programs.
Does Pimsleur have a lifetime 1 time payment option?
Think about it people spend upwards of 100 dollars a month on a gym membership and hardly ever go and the gym never called them to ask them to come. Doing both babel and pimsleur every month is still way cheaper and less physically painful.
haha so true
The biggest problem with babbel is the lack of languages no Korean Japanese Chinese etc
I'm a 60+ years old German and just started learning French to ward off cognitive decline! :)
Good luck! It's a very unrated reason to learn

Was looking for a stronger commitment to an answer on which was superior.
Thank you SO much for this review. Incredibly helpful for me. I think I might just go ahead and use both if my budget allows for it.
I am a driver so this was very helpful, primsleur it is, thank you.

Great review. Insightful, thorough and really helpful.
Great comparison. Both seem like good options. I use Rosetta.
How do you like Rosetta so far?

I have always wanted to learn a new language. I would love to learn Spanish, I think it is a beautiful language!

Thank you for the review! I am really trying to learn japanese
You can do it! Good luck!
I am grateful for this honest review. It saved me a ton of time trying to research it myself. Plus maybe I will win a subscription to my first choice Pimsleur🙂 I choose it because I can do half the lesson while driving my kids around to soccer.
Pimsleur is perfect for that. Thanks for watching!
Really helpful review. You addressed the exact questions I had! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Really useful info! What do you or anyone else here think about using both at the same time? Or any other platform combination for that matter.
If you have the time and funds to use both, I highly recommend. These two make a good combo. Having to reconcile what you learn across both platforms makes you think critically and helps the material to stick IMO
Just a bit of helpful criticism, work on your enunciation. Speak a bit more slowly and clearly. You tend to get excited and your words run together
I’m a Danish student, so I’m torn. Thanks for the info!!
Hope the video helped
Thank you for a great explanation!!!

Thank you for this video. This was a great summary of how these programs work
Thanks for watching!
I would start with the course without hiragana and katakana. Keep it simple at first
I am learning a new language to stimulate my brain and connect with my extended family
Both great reasons!
