Good luck on your voyages. Tip, when you scrape your hull like that, you’ve got to wear gloves. Those barnacles will rip your hands up, and can easily get infected.
Yeah, I scrape barnacles for sheephead. Gotta wear gloves. You can get MRSA. And get some ear plugs. You don't want anything living to get in there. Cheers
Thanks for another video, planning to do exactly what you did, sailing from The Six down to Florida and down south. Let me know when you're back so we can have a beer. Cheers!
Watching you doing that brings me back to the time I was crapping the haul of my boat and they get everywhere and they are inside your pants and I used the fastest tides to help with cleaning up the water when you are in the water make sure that you are tides off to the boat that way you don’t end up with being lost in the ocean
Wind is free…but on an old sailboat that’s where free ends. The exhilaration and sense of freedom is just a coat of economic white wash, to keep the dream of adventure alive.
Mike your adventures magically illustrate the reasons, we seek out such pursuits. I’m in St. Peter’s Ns. Ready for launch. One day I vision a fleet of our Canadian Cruising Captains, rampagaging the carribian seas… ok so maybe we’ll, probably just be enjoying a servos on the beach… burning a little sacrament, views only the Bahamas can offer.
Hi, I’m pretty familiar with that area. You are in the Norris Cut area and many powerboats go through there to open water. Yes, they, out ignorance or plain lack of courtesy, have no consideration for a slower moving powerboat. We have being driven out of the Miami Marine Stadium Anchorage and are being displaced in places where we don’t have any protection from boats like that or south winds. Regarding cleaning your hull…it’s better to do it with a current running so that the debris will be swept away from you. Also, that’s South Beach, not North Miami Beach….
If your tanks are “expired” they will need a “hydro”, visual inspections are done if you run the tank dry. Regarding the “bottom critters”, yeah, that’s why I recommend to clean the bottom when you have as bit of a current, be sure to drop a “safety line” you can grab unto while cleaning and try to use the air tank just to clean the keel bottom, use snorkel to clean the sides. I apologize if I am giving you too much advice!! LOL

I'm a power boater that tries to give consideration to sailboats. The problem is, when I try to "no wake pass" a sailboat they won't slow down. So, they get waked. Then they shake their fist at me as if I should just fall in behind them and do 4-5 knots too. Nope, I told one sailboat I have 700hp of twin gas sucking big blocks, and I use every hp to get where I'm going. What do snailboats do out in the ocean where there are waves that rock the boat? Do y'all cuss God for making waves? lol I also don't understand why 90% of sailboats are in the ICW. There's very little sailing going on in the ICW! Y'all are power boats when the engine is running.......
Perhaps stay away from the wall where all the wakes simply bounce off and create an uncomfortable ride. I also slow down for sailboats when I can but you also need to note you are cruising in one of the busiest ports in the world. You must recognize that it will not be a comfortable ride not only for you but also the smaller powerboats. Its not always about powerboats versus sailboats.
Love your videos. You need to get yourself some gloves. Then get a hoe that is straight from home depot. Also, I have an attachment that goes on a deck brush pole that is like 4 inches wide that allows me to just float on the top of the water and reach 95% of my bottom. Then clean your bottom weekly just with snorkel gear. I recently got a hookah setup with an awesome compressor on amazon (110v) that is amazing. I think I am into it for like $250.
