      @@manazo16just to throw it out there, had you been there 6 years ago for hurricane Irma and not vacated, your boat would have likely been in a huge pile of vessels stacked up by the park. Nearly all the sailboats that stuck around ended up in that pile. And in that case the eye was about 100 miles away. Just saying, making it through a tropical storm doesn’t say anything as to how it would fair through a hurricane and I hope(and assume) you would vacate the storm if necessary.

    • @sailingEV888
      @sailingEV888  10 місяців тому +1

      So the oil leak in the Tohatsu 9.8 was 2 things. A loose bolt on the lower oil pan cover and the new fuel pump was leaking a bit. So I put in a new bolt tightened to spec and then just took the new fuel pump off and put it back on again and it's now not leaking. Fingers crossed. With out that dingy and engine it would be rough out here. Next season I plan to hand it in for a full service and gear oil change to a certified outboard place. For now I check the oil everytime I start it and do an inspection for leaks.

      @shortwidgets 10 місяців тому +2

      I live on an older sailboat in Florida and my family and best friends even after I talk about my hardships of cruising an older boat don't really understand what's going on. Those people even though I love them are called landlubbers. Not a bad name just people that don't really get how difficult cruising can be. 😂 Recently I had taken my dinghy to land and a buddy of mine asked me how it was going and I said man I'm having to work on my hydraulic steering again. He said come back to me after you've fixed everything on the boat twice. 🤣 The difference with Captain Michael's sailing channel he is actually letting you know the hardship involved in cruising where I'd say all others don't. I enjoy his videos because he tells the truth of what's going on and also gives insights on different anchorages and provisioning. Take it easy and thought I might give my insight on the insanity called cruising. 😅

The marina gave me all the help in the world was glad to have me take it over (only thing wrong was it broke its morning and went hard aground it was a small light centerboard).... Long story short the city of miami marine patrol officer who ticketed it for environmental transgressions (obm) said tracked it to an outof state dead end who sold it to locals who never registered it...(Long arm amputation) Long story short said it was eviidence in a ("environmental") crime then tried to close his case by pinning it on me.... Florida 's state derelict removal program gouged and unfunded for decades would make everyone wait ten years to remove what was left of that boat.... When i would have helped everyone on my dime (and would have received papers after salvage legal process but for johny law)....dumb... That boat would have been perfect for me at the time.

There is a reason there are so few of us living out here. Mainly because of the cost involved with being a mariner and cruiser but sooner or later people will realize it's too expensive to live on land I'm not surprised people have dropped there hook here and make there trek onto shore to go to work. The city has realized if they can't get ashore then they just won't be here. The moral of the story is the wealthy ones in this town don't like the thrifty swashbuckling sailors of late so the city spent 50k$ in signs to warn them your not welcome if your going to try and live at anchor..
