  • Many newer 2-stroke scooter motors have reed valve. Reeds will wear out over time. If your scooter has a hard time starting or has a hard time idling, you may need to inspect your reed valves. Here is the procedure. Please subscribe to our channel.

    Had a nasty misfire when loading my 250r. Got to the dunes and it just wouldn’t start first thing in the morning. Had to dump fuel in it to start, after that it ran ok, sluggish low end power. Compression tested, 210psi @ 50degrees. Pulled the carb apart. Very clean. Pulled the reeds, and all 4 of the carbon fiber v force reeds were cracked and not sealing

    If you don't know how old your reeds are than replace them, its easier to replace reeds than to dig them out of your cylinder or have chunks come out in your next oil change, however once their replaced flip them at the BEGINNING of every season and they'll last 15 years... just like flipping your rear tire to get another season...

    • @sarahoward8522
      @sarahoward8522 5 років тому

      First off they won't be coming out in an oil change because you don't change it to cranky so I owe you change the transmission oil on the 2 stroke they just sent through your exhaust for your reply about your engines dummy

    • @bradsanders6954
      @bradsanders6954 5 років тому

      On a 2 stroke,the broken reeds cant come out in an oil change. Because its a 2 stroke,separate crank and trans.

    Area open to mix flow in a R-V and cage system is better set at 90% of Carburetor's Venturi or out tube area. For low rpm operation, fewer, short Reeds of hard material do better; for high rmp performance, many Reeds, of soft and light material, and of a long size are the ones indicated. Yamaha re-started using this concept around 1978, and Vic Willoughby / Top Racing summarized their research. Pyramid patented a R-V cage having Reeds opening in the four sides, and not just in two as usual.

  • @elvetost

    Sure, flip them around, and keep doing that till they disintegrate and your engine ends up ingesting them... Then you WILL know what happens when 2 strokes ingest plastic (glassfibre etc) reeds..
    On a serious note, you should never flip them over. REPLACE them. Pull a set off ebay or something, they are cheap there! Yes, you can flip them as a temp measure, but only provided that they look to be 100% otherwise, ie no signs of chipping, and very slight distortion. If they are damaged (frayed etc) or badly distorted DO NOT FLIP THEM. You have been warned...
    AND ALWAYS USE A THREAD LOCKING COMPOUND ON THESE SCREWS!!! You would not believe what I've seen over the years when they come loose and drop in the crank...

    • @sarahoward8522
      @sarahoward8522 5 років тому +3

      Oh stop being a silly perfect by the line and the book guy..some of us are inpatient and are broke..flip those reeds.. I run without an airflter or air box on multiple bikes never had a problem... but I agree red locktight on the screws. But unfortunately flipping the Reed valves on old Motors or really worn-out reeds will only create a leak that your motor cannot seal when it's running because there's a gap now on the edges towards the middle of the read

      @RollingWrench  10 років тому +6

      Reeds are like valves on a 4 stroke. They are basically a one way valve. This allows fuel to be sucked into the combustion chamber. if your reeds are not sealing correctly it is like drinking out of a straw with a hole in it. The suction is not correct.
