Behold the VForce4R reeds from MotoTassinari. The 2018 KTM 250 XC I have here had a rough spot in the motor at low RPMs when just cracking the throttle open. Didn’t seem to matter what gear I was in and I couldn’t quite get it “tuned out”. So I was talking to a friend and he suggested that I try swapping out my reeds for these VForce4R reeds. Preliminary results are very good. The bike runs better and I’m not noticing that rough spot any longer. That makes me happy. They aren’t difficult to install and I’ll show you how I accomplished the task here in this video.
Below is taken from store.mototassi...
The unique design of the VForce reed valve system features double the reed tip surface over a conventional reed valve design. This has two major benefits: 1) The reed petals only travel half the distance as a conventional reed valve design to get the same airflow. 2) Because the reed petals only need to travel half the distance of that on a conventional reed valve design, there is a greater chance of them being fully opened as well as a better chance of sealing when they are "closed". A reed petal never truly "closes" in a classic sense, as it is always in movement. Consider this, an engine operating at 8,000 RPM results in a reed petal opening and closing 133 times in one second. This fact, sheds light on another VForce advantage. Since the petals are only traveling half the distance, they generally last longer are they receive less wear than the reed petals on a conventional reed valve design.
STANDARD VFORCE REED VALVE FEATURES
Double the reed tip surface over a conventional reed valve design
Increased bottom end, stronger mid-range and longer top-end

I had a few issues getting my 2017 250 EXC running well and after much frustration trying different jetting I went with the VForce4R Reeds and my problems were solved. Love your channel, good honest reviews and useful info. Cheers.
Nice work. A little trick for connecting the air box to the carb i found is heating it up with something like a hair dryer , it will slip right on.
Something I've done for yars is rub a slight film of grease on both sides of gasket so if you remove it again then it seals perfectly but your not out any gaskets & can reuse them when there's nothing wrong with them. I use this with when replacing water pump seals & gaskets too with no problems. Great video & thank you.
i agree i have been soaking gaskets in oil before use for almost 35 years , it at least lets you re use them once ..clutch casings ect come off without destroying the gasket ..obviously not head gaskets before anyone has a go lol
If you see a slight amount of light through them, no worries. It doesn't mean they are defective.
but it does mean that theyre not perfect.
I agree with Carl. The stock reeds are 100% acceptable.
Many brand new reeds do not show zero light-through but they still seal good enough. It does not mean they are perfect. But if it tickles your fancy, go ahead and needlessly replace them.
Just speaking from 50+ years as a motorcycle mechanic and former competitor.
Carl Atamanczyk they should see a little bit of light because the engine sucks for air then they open and close that’s what reeds do
matt cooper with the suction of the engine there would be no gap.
Just put a set on my 2017 150XC-W. was surprised how much daylight I could see through them with only 4 hrs on the bike. What a difference along with a JD jet kit. Just not ready for the Lectron yet
These reeds are a significant improvement even to an already great running bike. It will pull stronger, smoother, and longer especially the KTM 300.
Could be, michael potts. Some of us like to stay in one gear more. Less shifting is less fatigue. It's all about what works for each individual rider. I find the 300cc pingers excellent all around bikes that'll accommodate short shifting momentum riders or those who like to make them sing. Personally, I'm too old, fat, and lazy for the 250f's:)
That's me in a nutshell. I think on the tracks I ride on I'd be quicker on a 125 4 stroke :-)
V Force are really a nice replacement reed, but if your stock reeds are good, run 'em.
Why would you run stock?? Stock are beneficial to the motor because there stock? Not really yes there made to go with the engine but also on a budget there not going to fit €180 reed to a bike if it isn't needed they want to make profit so therefore they go as cheap as they can on all parts but that work for the bike.... obviously KTM Kawasaki Yamaha ect all have a good quality build about them with a good power ratio & decent stock parts that's why we all love them but they are also costly if you can afford it for sure buy aftermarket uprated parts for your bike but make sure you do it properly i.e carb mod's exhaust ect all would require rejetting & so on be sure to look into what you change & does it need changing is it worth changing & the out come of changing it... But for sure get rid of the stock if you can specially on a 2 stroke you want it to be the best specs as possible not bare minimum stock crap you could see the gap i.e light after 1hr use they should sit flush... Your proves right there stock is bare minimum specs & price for it to work... don't get me wrong they would probably last a while but after one hour use your seeing light there crap would soon be hard to start running lean & so on & your suggesting that??? What you got half a nut holding on your front wheel??
@@liamwilliams7782 settle don’t Liam, don’t blow a head gasket
I know this is a couple years old but anyway just to put it out there Mototassinari is or was the official reed supplier for KTM so the stock cage was also Vforce but the older style thus a VF3 and the new is a 4.
Another issue is the small gap between reed and cage is perfect fine won't affect performance or anything, the pressure will slam shut it when running. The intent is to inform and not to criticize or nothing like that. Peace out and thanks.
100k! Been watching DBC since 35k. Glad you finally made it to the 100k club.
Always love those opening drone shots
The metal on the v force that extrudes up will prevent valve flutter at higher rpms. This will help stop any backfire to the carb.
Vforce and a JD jet kit made quite a difference to my 2 stroke, I won't say it gained HP, but it made it clean and crisp on the throttle.
Awesome to read your experience! Im about to add the JD Jetts to my bone stock TC250, I was a heart beat away from adding this V force reeds and an unnecesary piston kit just to make it heat resistance to the upgrade in power... But if you feel like there isnt much power gain, then there isnt much HEAT gain, meaning my stock piston should be able to withstand the duty of perfect carburation. Maybe next year I'll invest in both! Piston is too new to throw more money into it hahaha not pro, just riding here for fun and searching perfection.
Your reviewing a new rig cage yet failed to take a look at the reeds LOL. Are they stiffer? Flimsier? Made of stronger material??
Waste of money. Especially because these are so expensive. Pretty pointless with very little performance gain.Especially on practically a new bike. Wait until yours start to fail or don't work right at all or whatever and then upgrade to something so expensive like this. Or just take the one off of your previous bike and put it on there.
Years ago I put the v force 2 on my rm 250 they were great
I went with boyesen rad valve 2, I’m hoping it’s going to clear up my fine tune heard great things about these reeds over stock I know the vf3 reeds done wonders to a kx125 I did
Small gap in the reed paddles are fine on the pistons down stroke the reeds will seal shut like normal operation. Small gaps are normal the reed opens every up stroke of the piston and with these 2strokes screaming 10+ thousand rpms there bound to catch a little wear
In my opinion your tuning issues are do the the RK TEK high compression head, shown in the video, but not mentioned by you. I put a RK TECH HEAD on my 2019 KTM 300 XC -W TPI. I have a high flow muffler and a JD jetting tuner. I had a lot of tuning issues, I was told the head required no additional fuel, which I later found out was very incorrect information, mine spark knocked horribly and had no top end power until I richened it up a lot on top. JD jetting told me use the full race Mod, that did not work either, it sputtered. I finally went back to trail tune, the nrichened up the top end from 2.5 to 7 and it ran great, a tom more power on the top end and no pre detination. I still need to richen up the middle a tiny bit.
Question: is there just one Type of V Force 4? Which one do I need for a Yamaha DT 1995 125
I ve put the VForce4 on my 2017 300 EXC. I didnt notice any change in performance, but I like the way the supplied stickers look on my front fender and the VForce logo on the intake ;-]
I’m having trouble making run the way it used to after I install the reeds I think I need to jet my carb but then idk how or what one I need
100,000 subs!!!!!!!! Congrats Kyle!!!
What’s the difference between 4R and 4 reeds by vforce
Should have got a boysen rad valve
The stock reeds look like vForce 3 reed cage. I was just holding my vForce 3's while watching this.
I put one on mine! Never ran the stock!
so you swapped a Vforce out for a Vforce? Go figure
Are you still using these on your TPI bikes? Do you think these are still necessary on 2021 models?
What did you torque the 4 bolts down to. Or did ya just wing it!!
I have a question..i dr8ve gasgas ec250 I have vforce3 who is in bad condition.. Can i install vforce4?
If vforce is in poor condition did he ireduce engine power?
Hey you just passed 100k subscribers! Congrats Kyle!!
Your OEM reeds looked pretty good compared to mine. I installed Vforce 4R a few weeks back, I didn't notice much of a difference and I had way more light showing through my OEM reed cage.
John John
I bought the reeds, tried them, didn’t notice any improvement, tested them on a dyno, they give you 1.8hp less than original reeds, waste of money.
I own a 18 300 and one of the stock reeds broke a 10hrs. So do not keep the stock reeds. V force is the way to go!
My 16 250 ate an entire petal at 20 hours. Haven't been able to get it to run right since. I now have to tear it down. Hate this bike. Nothing but problems
Brandon J does the 2017 te250 have the same issues? What would you do differently
@@blazers12369 don't know if 17 is same. Replaced reeds and wouldn't run right. Put in Vforce 4 and it was worse. Then put in JD jet kit and made some slight carb adjustments and it's better now. I think stock reeds were shit and vforce4 made it rich. JD jet kit fixed it.
genuinely like your videos, the aftermarket reedblocks do give better performance than stock the two stroke tuners all rant and rave that the vforce is better than the boysen more surface area
Hi I’m doing mine on a cr125 and a mate said to put a bit of gasket sealant around on the new gasket both sides of the Reed block do you think some or none comments welcome please ? :)
Great presentation, you are correct about getting that airbox on the carb, it is tight. I almost gave up, but you convinced me to keep working it! KTM should have given us 1/4 inch more. Going to Croom for a whole month at the campground for my annual vacation for me:)
I had jetting issues with the Mikuni put in the boyesen rad valve fixed the jetting issue bike runs perfect 2019 husqvarna tx 300 boyesen makes a better product .
Im pretty sure it says not to use a gasket between the the boot and reed cage Kyle.
I believe you.might be wrong.. I believe putting the gasket between the boot wouls ensure there are no vacuum leaks..
100% They say in the instruction to NOT put a gasket between boot and reed valve. Although I cant see any harm to be done putting one in.
i stripped one of the bolts to take out the reeds? how could i take the stripped bolt out?
I put these on my husky tc250 and noticed a difference 👍
Did that the kit come with the gasket?
Buys new bike, runs it an hour, changes VF 3 to VF 4, OMG they're insane!!!!!! Raffles bike with 2 hours run time.
Kyle have you ever ran a Lectron?
Another great vid, thanks. Would you consider installing another Lectron (or similar) carb? After yourself giving them great reviews in the past, would've saved some faffing about already...
Hey there...... Which materiial is better for 2stroke yamaha rx series...?? Carbon fiber or stainless steel?? In stroke bikes they used stainless steel.... if carbon fiber better than stainless steel, then what is it’s advantages...?? Is somebody there to clear my doubts ....
Can you leave the original gasket on between the reed valve and housing? You didnt remove yours in the video.
KTM comes with Vforce3 so no real change. Would've liked to see this mod done on the CR or YZ to compare to the older style reed cage with less pedals to get real review. For example, YZ jetting, even perfect, has minor 1/4-3/8 hesitation. Most euro bikes coming with v3 or copy of it.
More videos like this please.
I bought my 2013 xcw used and I thought the V-force came stock on those. But maybe I am incorrect. But if that was the case, why did KTM stock running the V-Force from the factory?
I bought boyeson reeds rode for 2 days then bought v force reeds idk which ones are actually better
Do the Vforce reeds come with a gasket?
For install v force 3 how much gasket green color have need 1 or 2 i mean 1 for cylinder to reed valve pack and 1 reed valve to carb aniway 1 or 2 gasket??
Is there two gaskets that you need to install or just one because my kit came with two so I'm confused I normally only do 4 Strokes know nothing about 2
Should only need one. Is one thicker than the other ? On other 2 stroke o have installed just one against the motor. Edit.. just watched it again and looks like on this bike there is a gasket between the boot and reeds as well.
I just bought a Jetting kit from JD Jetting... i am a little doubtful of my desicion because my bike is completley stock... I;ve always felt that KTM (even tho Makuni carbs are 90%perfect) desgine their pistons, cranks, to fit a 90% perfect jetting kit, not the perfecto JD Jetts... I am looking to further upgrade the bike with reeds, so then also piston and posibly a FMF exhaust (Maybe not stock pipe is sick just clean it out)
Friends dont let friends dont use V force, the cheap plastic reeds kill engines and they wont warranty your parts , then they blame your engine for damaging their part
Couldn’t get my jetting right on my 2019 husqvarna tx 300 got ride of stock and the vforce 4 put in boyesen rad valve jetting issues gone runs way better more top end . Also better low end . Boyesen beats the others hands down
my bike sometimes goes out when i am in neutral and dont give gas, could it be that the membrans are worn out?
Are vforce reeds worth the upgrade on a tpi
I had to buy a 08 boot but I replace my stock boysen reeds on my 06 with the vf4r, way easier to jet and my old reeds needed to be replaced anyway
VFORCE... They gave a very high idle in my RMK... Switched back the stock cages with new Boyeson reed petals and my Idle was perfect ! Paid the VFORCE cages close to $300 shipped... And sold them on FaceBook for $100... While in my sled the VFORCE reeds didn't impress me at all to tell you the truth...
Did you try to lower the idle by jetting your bike well for vforce? Ofcourse you need to set your bike uo when doing mods.
I have a 2018 Husky TC250 and run the 4R reeds. I also have FMF exhaust, silencer, and an RK TEK head. I believe the reeds make it a little bit better.
Did you have to rejet?
The husqvarna factory teams remove the little piece who give the position of the carburator and turn it a little bit. Those angle shall reduce the fuel consumption.
Great video Kyle, did you put in a JD kit with the new reeds?
Seems like you did a lot of extra work just to get to the reeds.
No....
does the vforce one include the gasket in the package?
Yes
Not the knockoffs
Where did you get those custom graphics?
Your Vendor has the VForce Reed for purchase. Its for a 2019 KTM 300 XC
Of course a brand new Reed cage won't have any gap. Check it after you run it for a while.
My 2018 ktm had gaps all the way around bran new never ridden
Why no filter on your carb?
I just got into riding dirt bike last year, my only experience has been on 4 strokes. I know I want to get a dedicated enduro/woods bike and I keep flipping and flopping between 2 stroke and 4 stroke. I just have zero experience ridin/working on a 2 stroke. Your videos make me really want to try a 2 stroke but then again the YZ250FX screams at me at the same time.
TheBraps as far as working on them, you can't beat 2 strokes. Much more simple design makes them easy to work on. And if you take it to a shop, your bill will be 1/4 the cost of a 4-stroke repair. The power delivery is all rider preference. 2-strokes put a smile on my face in a way that a 4-stroke never can.
TheBraps you ride 2 and 4 strokes different but once learning the 2 stroke you will love it I had a xcfw 250 with 300 big bore sold it and just bought a husky tx300 2 stroke and I will never go back to 4 stroke for my woods bike these new 2 strokes deliver plenty of low end grunt like a 4 stroke but then the power band comes in and it's all smiles ear to ear plus way less engine maintenance than a 4 stroke plus way cheaper and easier to fix when something does go wrong. Don't let the 80 hour engine rebuild scare you either I have friends getting almost 200 hours out of a rebuild
You will never regret the 2t ktm. So much more exciting to ride than a 4t
Kyle has a few 2t versus 4t vids. i would go with the 2t though. much more fun to ride.
Good and util video
Vforce Reed work great if you have bigger carbs and ported
10 thousandth view! Great job on the channel and the 100k subs
Did you have to drop any jet sizes, after this installation?
I did, my bike ran richer with Vforce(yz20)
I'm pretty sure the stock reeds are also Vforce lol....
yes, v-force 3
These are vforce 4 R. The r model.
Nice video kyle i liked it
Are you going to Salt Lake City supercross
Jc On2wheels he should set up a booth lol! I'd love to shake Kyle Brotherson's hand ha ha. I'm going. It's my Weber State graduation celebration! :D
Yes, I'll be there with my family
Ok cool maybe I’ll see you there I’m a big fan btw
I'm going to go.
EreksonJ well congrats on graduating
Who did your custom graphics?
Dale Bogue yes i would also like to know
Dale Bogue decal works

If you’re carb vent tubes were being pinched by the skid plate that could have been why it wasn’t running like your 2017
Was only pinched because the bike was on the stand, pinching em between the stand and skid plate.
Hey guys I bought a 18 tx300 which definitely has some jetting issues aswell; was hoping after installing Jd kit it would run smoother, but it wasn't by much. Any of you folks have any suggestions or videos to point to. Thanx in advance:)
Jamie Brasnyo reeds are known issues for these new bikes I also bought a 2018 tx300 and have put the jd jetting on and soon to order the v force reeds because of the issues I'm not really having a problem yet but I have had them out and you see lots of daylight around the cage and these people are wrong when they say a little daylight is ok cause no it's not you should see no daylight through the reeds
ktm bro's well I'm definitely going to order some then as well. I wonder why husky would put out such cheap reads? After everything is said and done I'm paying like $13,000 I don't understand this. First the shity carb now shity reads LOL
Thanks for your comment nice to know I'm not the only one with the new tx300 with these issues
Jamie Brasnyo I think they are trying to lower costs so that all the new tech it does have doesn't run the price up even more but still sucks although the reeds that are in there are carbon fiber just like the v force I honestly think it's the reed cage that is the problem it doesn't have the stop over the reeds that stop them from opening too far under high revs
Keihin pwk Air Stryker 38 carb that’s the answer you seek
Sean MacNee I've heard that too, might consider it or the electron one of the other
Would this make a big difference on a Yamaha yz 125? And would it make a big difference on a Ktm 200 exc?
I've been running v-force on an 08 yz125 and yes they make a huge difference. I needed to change the pilot jet to clean up the bottom end after installation. Now it has way more usable bottom end and gets into powerband sooner.
Rad valve 👍
Licensed mechanic say the flaps being a bit bent or "stuck open" seeing a little light, is ok. save your money or dont :P
I bought those, tried them, felt no difference, so I tested them on a dyno, results are clear.... 1.8hp less than stock reeds, total waste of my money. I called the company that makes them, told them what happened, they asked me to send the dyno results, so I did -according to them I should get 2hp extra with those reeds, so I told them to send me the results of their dyno showing the increase of 2hp, I’m still waiting to receive anything. Bottom line, you will lose 1.8hp with those, I have thrown them away.
SEND THEM TO ME, How much?

Kyle are the Reeds on the 2019 KTM 300 XC having any issue at this time? Its a TMX Mikuni 38 Carb. Carb is doing great after some mods....
Stage 6 or vforce
I'll take a piston port (or rotary valve), oil injection and no power valve.
why doesn’t my bike have a gasket for the reed cage
Does it run?
I have a yz490 i want to pull a lot more power out of
The reed cage on my 125cc seems to be bigger But I dont know why
maybe you have a diffrent legnht on your overall intake. so that the bike needs bigger reeds to get the correct airflow?
What I also never understood is that the 125sx uses a 39mm carb while the 250cc and 300cc use a 38mm while they make way more power. Strange but must be some kind of explanation for it
its the venturi effect. if you have to big of a carburetor, the air velocity wont be high enough. and if you have to small. then the engine dont get enough air. 125cc probably needs a bigger one becuse of the shorter stroke, i would imagene
case induction
You might mention that V-Force reeds were stock on KTM's for many years so check your bike before buying them
Lance G. Never will understand why they stopped using them I'm guessing to save some money but yeah it sucks they don't come stock anymore
Why would u buy a 2018 when u had a perfectly good perfectly running 1year or less old 2017??
Sam D'Cruz he testes and reviews bikes.
According to him he buys everything with his (hard) earned money!! LOL!!
Do you doubt that, Danny? Why would you think he doesn't pay for each bike (except the Husky he recently reviewed as it was loaned) with the money he earns with his day job, just as you earn your money, honestly?
cuz he can

Kyle, i just did this mod on a weekend. the second gasket is not suppose to be there - between reeds and a boot as per manual that came with those reeds. i m sure it wouldnt hurt though to add it ha. i did it on my 2017 150xcw.
Actually it will affect performance.
I just did the vforce 4r install and called moto tassinari and they said it doesn’t matter either way
It can actually give you more power, very little but it definitely doesnt hurt
Was it worth doing? Any noticeable changes? if so, what? Looking to do this, but don't want to if there's really no point..
I'll never understand why people replace stuff like this before even riding the bike.. waste of money.
I guess you didn't listen very closely. I have been tuning the bike to make it run the way I want it to run. I have 2 hours of motor time doing that.
Also, not a waste of money as it was given to him.
What a mission. Reeds are replaceable items so should be accessible. Poor design if you need to remove so much! Manufactured inflated service costs🤔
You need to clean your airfilter it looks so dirty.
I actually hasn't even seen dirt yet as of this filming. It's just a mix of blue and red oil, so it looks bad.
Lol if you can read "twin air" its not dirty

100% They say in the instruction to NOT put a gasket between boot and reed valve. Although I cant see any harm to be done putting one in.
