    This is an example to other communities in Puerto Rico of being proactive in finding solutions to the problems our communities are having in this time. Too often, we expect the government to take care of us but we need to recognize that we are the ones who need to take responsibility for those in need around us.
    We need to stop complaining about how unfair everything is and start acting fairly towards each other.

    • @earthandwind820
      @earthandwind820 2 роки тому +1

      True to a certain extent, but the government also shouldn’t be left off the hook. They do, after all, get paid and manage PR taxes and should be doing something for ordinary people as a result. One can advocate for people being more proactive and also not leave the politicians off the hook or they’ll just steal the money that belongs to the people.

    • @williamrapien6071
      @williamrapien6071 2 роки тому

      @@earthandwind820 True, but then I suppose they are already stealing the funds that should be used to help the people. I believe that the government is not composed of just the politicians but of all the people. As Abraham Lincoln said, the government is of the people, by the people and for the people. Indeed, we need to hold our elected government responsible for their abuses but we need to recognize that we all have a personal responsibility to treat those around us with respect and consideration. How can we expect our politicians to hold a higher standard then those who elected them?

    • @earthandwind820
      @earthandwind820 2 роки тому +1

      @@williamrapien6071 I agree, if politicians in PR actually did the bare minimal, but they can’t even be bothered to fix the sidewalks or have a normal electrical grid. That’s unacceptable. My dad lives in San Lorenzo, I swear I can’t figure out where the money goes in the town. It’s peoples job to help one another, their neighbors, but it’s not the job of ordinary Juan or Maria to have normal asphalt roads or regular sidewalks - that’s the government’s job. They need to do their damn job, too. If they don’t, they should be scolded till infinity.
      The people in this video, without even half the budget/time of the politicians in PR, have done more than the politicians in DECADES. That’s pathetic.

      Estas segur@ de eso? El Imperio esta detras de todo lo que ocurre en el pais. El imperio sigue beneficiandose del comercio puertorriqueno, el cual importa mas del 95% de lo que consume de Estados Unidos, utilizando y pagando por su marina mercante. Hasta que el ejercito de EEUU y sus agencias federales no salgan del pais, no podemos decir que hemos aprendido a valernos por nosotros mismos.

    A way to help P.R in the long run in my opinion is to build hydroponic and aquaponic and fish farms so P.R has a constant food supply so that in the event of a natural disaster a food crisis would not occur in PR this can also be used as a source of income in the island.

      There was a failed hydroponic farm in Vieques when I lived there. I don't know why it failed; it seems like a good idea-but maybe it's not. And farmed fish? Where I am now, farmed fish are available in the supermarket. I avoid them because they taste, in my opinion, awful. They are cheaper, but I would rather have a small piece of wild-caught fish than a larger portion of farmed fish. If farmed fish were the only available, I would prefer to go without, thank you.
      One of the biggest disappointments of life in Vieques was the lack of safety in the fish market. If the fish are caught near the reef (reef feeders) they collect a nerve poison. If you eat these over time, it creates an irreversible, sometimes fatal condition. It is important to fish 25 miles out from the reef.
      So, the bottom line is to IMO preserve the environment that the fish we love can thrive in. Know the source of your food. I personally suspect any process that tends to concentrate and isolate our food supply.
      I am an elderly woman who has always gone by the "if I don't recognize it as food, I'm not buying it, no matter how cheap and no matter the 'new and improved' claims."
      Now with GMO technology, some of the food can look real, but nutritionally diminished for the sake of shelf-life and shipability features.
      Best to get your garden growing in the back and get to the local farmer's market.

    Another problem we face is that there are way too many individuals that refuse to work, period. In order to succeed ✨️ we must produce.
    Regardless of the political situation we are facing (politicians come and go but me must keep an eye 👁 on them) we have to work and produce to ensure the progress we all want.
    We must brake the lazy cycle of expect the government to fix all our problems. Yes, the Government must solve problems but we must help by not being so dependent. If we stay dependent we are easily manipulated but if we study, learn and work there's no way to manipulated a solvent society.

    Bianca, quiero que sepas que tu talento y tu don de contar estas increíbles historias son una gran inspiración para muchos como yo. Tengo 20 años y a pesar que dedique mis estudios a la ingeniería, toda mi vida he querido de alguna manera u otra involucrarme en el área de la agricultura. Sin embargo, a través de los años conseguir inspiración o apoyo para meterle mano a ese sueño fue bien dificil. Al ver estos testimonios de tantas comunidades e individuos que han logrado hacer un cambio significativo, me reasegura y me motiva a seguir trabajando por algún día también tener mi propia finca y aportar a que algún día obtengamos esa soberanía alimenticia que tanto necesitamos.

    I love love love this! Thank you Bianca for showing us videos of the amazing work Puerto Ricans are doing in their own community! I was born in Illinois, but watching videos like this make me want to move to PR to help be part of the solution and help our people. I've always felt a strong emotional and spiritual pull to learning more about the island, it's nature, music, history, and just experciencing all for myself. I would love to be part of things like this. I hope that some day I can.

    This just broke me💔 We r a culture of loving and helpful people we may not have enough and we would still share the bits we have! This oppress system that has waved in to Puerto Rico has changed whom we r! but Maria thought us humility again and we have come together like our abuelitas though us🙌My grandma used to feed the homeless the drug users and that used to full filled her with joy🙇🏽‍♀️we need to walk away from that materialistic ways that has infected our community and go back to helping our neighbor instead of acting like strangers! Thanks to all those putting their seeds to recuperate our loved ones🤝🙌🫶🏾🌻🙏😇🥂
