It’s good to see Puerto Rico being recognized so positively. Living in a colony, we are raised to think that to succeed you have to leave your culture behind and accept Americanization which leads to a rejection of our own culture. Ahora veo lo lindo que es mi país, mi acento y mi cultura! 🇵🇷 🌴 ☀️

America doesn’t reject anything. When you come here, you need to have the correct politics in your mind THEN your culture. Culture is beautiful but politics is what keeps us going.

@Your thoughts Not mine Yeah it's an African dance, but kid it's an African dance that is expressed by Puerto Ricans in the island. It would eventually evolve by grabbing different elements from the different backgrounds in the island, incorporating them and would later become known as la bomba puertorriqueña and it is one of the traditional dances of the island along with la plena, which is another dance and was influenced by la bomba. The dance is apart of the culture in the island and that's one of the things that makes the island what it is. Real Boricuas aren't worried about skin color cause they know that at the end of the day our ancestors are just the same as our neighbors' whether that be if they came from Africa, Spain, Borikén, etc. We recognize the differences of how each Puerto Rican looks when we come in contact with one another or we see on tv, but that doesn't change a single thought in our mind about that person cause we know we are all children of la isla de Borikén. Those that do think negatively on their own because of color are not helping the island. So if you're rican, regardless of color, and you want to dance la bomba, no one in the island is gonna tell you that you can't, they will be more than happy if you were to reconnect to your roots than ignore them and most importantly, respect and understand the meaning behind la bomba.

My mother is Puerto Rican (my father being Nicaraguense) and I’ve always wanted to touch base with her culture. It’s been one of my childhood dreams to be a folk dancer and seeing you all dance touches my heart in ways I can’t even explain. It’s as though I long to be one with my culture. Unfortunately I don’t really know where to start to learn more.♥️

The dances and drumming are of Africa! I am 1/2 Dominicano (my father) and my father always told us to be proud of the African in us, that's why I don't understand why some hispanics (no matter which island they are from whether Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, etc )try to deny that, too many will claim the indian, the european but will do anything rather than claim the African! Be proud of the African in yourself, that is the strongest blood you carry, those are the ancestors that survived the most horrendous treatment yet survived to bring some of the strongest of descendants to the world!

Puerto Rican people in general are treated poorly by people in the states and so I was very surprised and saddened to learn when visiting PR that the descendants of Taino and Spaniards look down on the descendants of Africa. My friend, who is a black man from NY, was refused a haircut by a non-African descent Puerto Rican man who said "I'm not touching THAT head!" Jokes about "bad hair" abound as do "hiding grandma in the basement" when a person has African ancestors. May the beauty of Africa and her descendants be recognized. May all people live in peace in the coming age.

    • @monicamorales9341

Honestly, most people look down on that type of behavior. It is not the norm for sure. Personally, I love this music and will forever be grateful to my African, Taino and Spaniard ancestors. I'm all in one. Hateful people are everywhere, I respond with the same passive aggressiveness and move on lol. Life is too short to worry about snowflakes.

This was my case. Didn't speak Spanish but understood it cuz my parents were two jibaritos. Came to PR and a la fuerza has to learn the language. Spent ten years in Puerto Rico got to know who my family was learned Spanish well read it write it . Although my journey was from NYC to San Juan was a big step I don't regret it. Consequently I suffered many bumps along the way but, like gold in fire, I shine brighter because of all the struggles. It made me a wiser person, stronger in identity and only respect and love for my Puertorican heritage.

Ola Puerto Rico... In the Philippines, the word "bomba" doesn't have a very good reputation because it is connotated to the term stripping off as in "strip off your garments and sho me your flesh" kind of thing. We usually use the term bomba to mean rated x movies... Formally though, bomba in the Philippines may mean "to bomb"

These rhythms survived slavery because the spanish let the slaves keep their drums. Only because it kept the slaves more content, and therefore more efficient at working the fields. Slaves in the US were not allowed to keep their drums. They lost their rhythms and a big connection to their roots, culture, and arts.

Yep! And outsiders don't get it. I hate it when outsiders tell Black or Brown people to forget the past and move on. Okay! So were supposed to forget our history & identity? My culture, my identity & my ancestors has helped me heal. I think the fuck not. I had to check a lady on that yesterday. No mam! Ill never forget the past. I'll never deny my ancestors and the struggles they endured for me & our people.

As a black woman of Cameroonian and Nigerian heritage, having grown up my whole life outside of the motherland I really struggled to understand and feel connected to my identity. Watching this video I am in awe and admiration of how your beautiful community keep the spirit and soul of our ancestors alive despite all the systemic and racist attempts to dim your light and devalue your heritage. So inspiring! I would love nothing more than to experience the love and pride you have for your culture in real life one day! ❤

The original Americans are the Natives and Black Americans because our people were brought here over 500 years ago. But all of these people that are moving here willingly or their Families moving here from other Countries are NOT AMERICAN!!!!! They are Citizens of this country. YALL Foreigners always Claiming America . If you have parents who can be deported and needed paperwork to live on this land you are not American. If your parents gave birth to you in China 🇨🇳 it will not make you Chinese DUH 🙄. He's a Hatian who was born in America. I'm Black American 🇺🇸and Cuban 🇨🇺 and Native American of if i was Born in Japan that won't make me Japanese, lol 😆 all he had to say was he was born in America. Haitians were dropped off In Haiti also so are they not the originals of haiti. This is why the Dominican Republic is Kicking the hatians out because they are claiming to be Dominican/ Hispanic because their people migrated there and they were born there, that would make them a Citizen it doesnt change their DNA Girl GTFOH!!!!

    • @ilimari
      @ilimari Рік тому

@@mizzbellasofly did you actually said “you all foreigners”? 😂😂😂😂 oh the ignorance 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ first of all, I’m Puerto Rican. We are not foreigners and we can’t be deported. Puerto Rico has US citizenship since 1917, anyone born in the island is a US Citizen and American. Got it?😉Secondly, Native Americans are the INDIGENOUS people who lived here in the AMERICAS before the European AND AFRICANS arrived. Black Americans are NOT Native Americans, you all are mostly the descendants of the slaves that came from
AFRICA. Being here for 500 years doesn’t turn black Americans into indigenous from Americas’ first nations. According to your logic, then the Europeans are also Native Americans because they arrived to the Americas way before you all were brought here! You do can claim Native American ancestry or heritage if you do a DNA test and have indigenous DNA, though, because some of the slaves in the USA and Canada did mix with the indigenous people, but that doesn’t mean Black Americans are Native American because “they have been here for 500 years” 🥴. And let me give you another piece of knowledge: Central and South America, and The Caribbean Islands ARE PART OF THE AMERICAS. Being a Native American doesn’t only apply for indigenous in the USA, and there are still indigenous tribes in South America, in Mexico and in Canada, who are ACTUALLY Native Americans. And FYI, people from the Caribbean and Latin America have more Native American blood and heritage than maybe you. Why? Because our indigenous people actually mixed with the Spanish and the African, and that was the NORM, not just a minority like it happened in USA, Canada and Haiti. Contrary to the French and British, the Spaniards actually mixed with the indigenous and their heritage is still in our DNA, which is why we are called mixed or “mestizos”. Mexico and Peru for example, the average Mexican has 56% indigenous in their DNA, and in Peru, they have 45% indigenous in their DNA. And those statistics are for regular people who doesn’t belong to any indigenous tribe. We are all mostly mixed. And it happened the same in Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Dominican Republic. The average Puerto Rican has between 15% and 20% Indigenous. Some even more than that depending on the region. I did the test and I got 21% Taino and my husband 26%. My great grandma was a Taina… Sorry but you are literally in no place to come here lecturing me about being a US citizen, being an American and actually having indigenous ancestry, you 🤡.
Man I knew schools in the USA’s mainland doesn’t educate the kids that much in this matter but this was beyond pathetic, do yourself a favor and at least educate yourself through Google 🤦🏻‍♀️
