Gotta love Morrigan Humansplaining elven stuffs to your elven Inquisitor and Solas, though. I get why Solas is so snippy with her, though he keeps being his usual vague self too. What happened with the double puzzle is that it's considered just one puzzle. So when you messed up the second part, it reset the *whole* thing. Me, side-eyeing that "Pride stopped her hand" lore bit. See, I've played the game so many times I don't really re-read all the codexes, so I never picked up on that. Interesting...
Haha yes. The funniest thing about playing DAI is that you get the sudden urge to read the codex all over again, as so much of the lore that you thought you understood needs to be seen through a new lens of information. The murals depicting Andraste, the Avvars talking about the gods and the dreaming... It's absurd how much one doesn't notice when all was right in your face, but one you know what to look for it's all rather obvious. Brilliant storytelling really.
I've never played an elven inquisitor but I find the humansplaining funny even on other characters. You can play a studied mage that previously knew all the elven facts and suddenly all knowledge is gone. I love Morrigan, but it was a weird choice by the writers.
The 'humansplaining' is because DAI was originally meant to be a human-only story, and other races were added in later as a last-minute thing. Thus they could only add limited extra dialogue for some characters to acknowledge this... Elves got hit worse because of how much the story revolves around them. Not saying this isn't a flaw in the game, but it is one caused by rushed development. Hopefully DA4 does better... but I'm afraid given current news.

Bringing Cassandra here is honestly equal parts funny and infuriating cause she spends the entire time just absolutely baffled why the ancient elves would waste so much time and resources building these massive temples and performing these elaborate gestures of worship and tribute for "such nonsense", while seemingly completely unaware that she's basically describing everything the Chantry does for the Maker lmao.
Loved your passionate rambles! That's exactly why Inquisition is my favorite Dragon Age even with the bloated side content. The first two games set up these great lore threads and Inquisition starts to pull those threads into the spotlight in really interesting ways.
there also was some cool lore about Andruil and Falon'din in Mythal temple you missed, it was in the rooms with the walking puzzles 🥲 I absolutely agree with your thoughts on DAI's side content, like you can see in the final dlc that the quality is much higher if they would just forget about the open world formula and focus on the story... I think if you're feeling too strong you can put it on harder difficulty
Though I think Jaws of Hakkon for the most part showed how good the Inquisition side quests could've been if given proper time to write and make the quests. I mean pretty much every side quest in the frostback is a BANGER with cool characters and really good world building with some seriously big lore implications. There are a few misses ofc but really if every zone was like JOH the game would be ICONIC
There are inscriptions in the area where you choose to do the rituals or go down the hole. Super easy to miss, thankfully you saved before moving on so you can go back at anytime. Hopefully a mod or someone let mapo know so he can get all that delicious elven lore and some interesting dialog. Also, all the missed investigate options in this episode especially hurts me so much lol
HERE. WE. GOOO. I'm not exaggerating when I say I've been waiting for you to reach this point and onwards in the plot ever since you BEGAN playing Dragon Age. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one either. You are slowing gathering the shards of one of favourite bits of storytelling I've ever had the delight of experiencing in RPGs, and I've been playing them decades. Have fun! Not to bring up discourse about an old topic, but the human-splaining from Morrigan here feels particularly weird when you remember how they previously established Merrill to be an expert in elvish history and eluvians, and someone who would be the perfect candidate for this role as an elven interpreter here. I may still be salty about this quest almost a decade later as a prime example of Bioware playing favorites lol.

Actually, I believe ending an elvhen word in -an means "place", or anything that could mean place such as "country", etc. For example, Elvhenan - place of the people, Arlathan - "place of love", Solasan instead of meaning prideful means "place of pride" or "prideful place". So Abelasan would mean "place of sorrows", though instead of "place" they use "well" in this case. It might be worth mentioning that elvhen translation are complicated, as I think the literal translation of Solas is "to stand tall".
I never used the spellsword specialization or whatever it's called, it's always been rift mage. But it looks like a lot of fun! Edit: You're 100% correct with the game just having too much side missions. The main quest is good enough to carry itself without being bogged down by a thousand fetch quests. Also, your realization of how Corypheus survived in DA2 was a sight to behold lmao good stuff as always!
Barrier skill tree and Knight Enchanter trees are broken when used together. Barrier that's restored equal to your damage output means you can always have full barrier.
Personally I love every side mission. The ways they bring out the lore and how each area has a story equal to the main missions of how you are fighting against corypheus is one of my favorite things in the game. But to each their own. It helps that enjoy the combat and the general experience of running around in pretty new areas so the quests are also a reason to do more of that
It neither has the most DPS, nor is it the tankiest either, as warriors and rogues get the same ability to generate barrier through doing damage with the enhanced amulet of barrier. It's certainly the tankiest among mages but, champion warrior remains the undisputed tankiest class-spec.
@BunnyHoper7 It is the tankiest mage specialization. If playing a mage in Nightmare mode, it is by far the most viable choice. Rogues and Warriors dont get barrier on hit, but can get guard on hit with equipment.
Kinda disappointed that you didn't drink from the Well as it's a heritage of elven kind so it makes sense to drink it ONLY when you're playing as an elf. But this one will be interesting as well. :D
I didn't either with my elf. My inquisitor is too cautious to be bound to a well. Besides, I think Morrigan taking it is fitting in my opinion. I prefer not taking it.
31:56 - yeah, Samson is a bit underused. I get that it's mostly because they needed to split the narrative depending on whether you back mages or templars, and having a different lieutenant for Corypheus depending on the route is neat, but ... Both end up quite thin characters because of that.
This is definitely my favourite quest in this game aside from the trespasser dlc! (How can you be an elf and not drink from the well mapo aaaaaaah. Joking of course!) I would still advice to go back and look at the remaining moasics you missed and try the path to drink from the well at some point ^^ it offers up some cool lore! I cant wait for the next episodes. Gonna be wild! ❤
Ummm no, I know you're obsessed with Morrigan but he was pointing out how Mythal was more akin to a mother than a vengeful god AKA Elgar'nan who is the actual god of vengeance, Mythal was the god of Justice and it can be harsh.
Mapo: You can, if you desire, actually go the next main mission without cutting off all of the other side quests and table missions. The main quest "Doon Upon The World" is the cut off point. Once you start DUTW, all other missions are terminated. YOU WILL want to see the next main mission. It is a short mission but oh so revealing!!😁

She didn’t say Mythal was “both,” she claimed Mythal as an entity was possibly multiple people since the accounts were so varied. Solas disagrees and argues that she was one person who acted as a motherly protector yet was also fierce and capable of rage like in the stories.

The Temple of Mythal is such a powerful place for thos into Elven lore and I, and I'm sure many others too, have been waiting for you to get here! Oh yes, there are many, many good moments in your Dragon Age series playthrough, but this one is special. So many lore bombs in short succession. And blown your mind was, very rewarding :) Though, as a Deep Roads afficionado, I also look forward to when you get there.
Unfortunately Samson is the more underwhelming bad guy. On the templar branch the bad guy leader is much cooler and interesting - this quest also makes more sense with that particular villain. If you are curious as to what Solas told to Abelas - it was "Your name is finished" specifically. At least as far as I can decipher it. I am shocked you gave the well to Morrigan. Elven Inquisitor is the one time where it feels logical to take it yourself - especially with the potential to bring the elves back to the sun and all that - while we know full well Morrigan will help us do our thing and then run off galivanting to another far place - didnt expect that.
This is my favorite Mapo episode of all time and I'm only halfway. The freaking out over lore and possibilities and just Dragon Age in general, good stuff. Never change, Mapo 👍

I found your channel through wanting to find a nice playthrough of dai to vibe to, just have in the background, but I got absolutely hooked and had to start from the beginning and watch the whole thing through because I absolutely love your reactions and your rambles and thoughts! It's so nice to watch someone play this who is just SO into the lore and notices all the small things, I can't wait to dive in and watch you play origins and 2 as well! I find myself just waiting for key moments in the story not so much for the story itself but to see your reactions to them :D Should probably have started from the beginning of the dragon age world but oh well lol.
I'm happy you turned on the level sync trial for the latter part of the story, it's so easy to overlevel the main story without it and fights lose alot of tension because of it.
Kool fact Mapo if you would have had your Inquisitor drink from the well, you would be able to read/translate all the ancient eleven lore you got from the mosaics in the temple. Glad you had fun, seeing your excitement was amazing.
I could be wrong but I don't think Corypheus always had the dragon. I think he was originally entirely unkillable, but in his "pride" invested some of himself in the dragon, basically granting a slight chance for you to kill him properly, but again, in his "pride" doesn't believe anyone is capable of slaying his dragon and then quickly slaying him too. Never mind even figuring out the secret. It's also possible he wasn't fully aware of this consequential effect when he invested his power in his dragon.

Woooo! Yes, we are here! The Episode I've been waiting for. EDIT: Now, do this quest again but also bring Dorian in the party. Also, you need to reload that talk with the Sentinels. By not "Investigating" and clicking the "Special" as your first choice you lost A LOT of key lore and answers.
Argh, and he missed all the wall mosaic dialogue around the ritual puzzle area too! That's where bringing Solas and playing an elf really pays off. I blame Bioware for not making it obvious you can interact with the mosaics until you're up close - the game gets you used to being able to highlight interactable objects from a distance...
yeah, i think if the game was a more tight knit experience like mass effect 2 and 3 (or even da2 and da:o) it would be so much better exploring is great and i get why they wanted to do something like this because everyone loves elder scrolls etc. but the problem is elder scrolls in not known for it's story really i've played skyrim so many times yet i still have never completed the main storyline dragon age i just love so much so i am thankful for the side content and a lot to do in a way but i know for other people it's a lot it did win game of the year however, and i get it because the story and companion content is so good but i agree, the 'open world' type aspect is kind of what drags it down from being even better thankfully the descent and trespasser dlc are a lot better of a balance (trespasser is one of the most top tier dlc's ever in my opinion, it's tied to the citadel dlc for mass effect) i like jaws of hakkon but it's less compressed
21:00 - Missing Codex entries! You can't complete it, I don't think. Every starting race has a different Codex. Probably some for various routes, not sure about it, but there are unlock conditions out there. A bunch of it *is* in the DLC you haven't done, though. Bunch of stuff here to remember for the future. But Corypheus could always travel bodies, before the Dragon. This just temporarily disrupts that power for a bit.
I do hope by this moment Mapo realized veilfire doesn't always mean runes, it means revealing something hidden. I mean, Fallow Mire kiiinda teaches you it might be like this but not entirely. ugh how much grief did Samson use to give me and my teammates in coop missions with his "entirely normal-looking armor"
I like they didnt do Samson like saturday cartoon vilian, foil the plans and see you next week. In reality if mortal enemies meet - someone will die, if they get away with too much then it's hard to take seriously and the whole thing might start smelling cheesy.

I adore the main missions! They are really well done and interesting. The lore, oh the lore! I love elvhen lore so this quest is just perfection! Solas and Morrigan are quite funny together. They do share that "I know better than others" trait (not entirely wrong either) and of course it clashes ahahah. My inquisitor had the Mythal's vallaslin on her face so it was quite insulting to hear Morrigan explaining basic stuff about Mythal but I get that it's needed for players. But, I always ask every lines because I want to hear everything and also, Claudia Black
One of the biggest downsides to DAI's open world design is the loss of a sense of urgency. You're in the endgame but in-between What Pride Had Wrought and The Final Piece you can faff about for another 10 hours, losing that sense of investment and urgency for the climax. What Pride Had Wrought should have been a point of no return in the game, similar to Ilos in ME1. Do what you want before that point because, once you start, it's on rails until the end because the story needs that continuity.

Aye the games greatest hinderance is the bloat from filler content. The main quests and character stuff is excellent but they desperately tried to make the game more like open world games and it hurts the pacing extremely. Still plenty of good in the game and some of the best stuff yet remains (:
I certainly would love to see more samson throughout the game, but the lieutenants of corypheus that you foght and win against are often the big bad of each area. You beat them and they stay beaten instead if the big bad conveniently escaping time and time again. Plus samson is more of a general directing things like cullen is. But most importantly i dont think mapo is wrong that it oculd have been nice if they did it differently
I kind of get why they got rid of the option to talk to companions in the field. In DAO, you missed a lot of unique field and mission-specific dialogue with some characters like, say, Leliana, because despite them being available to talk to out there, you (most people, really) very rarely did. Which is a pity, as I know you would have loved to hear them. On the other hand, while it may feel like something was lost, you missed fewer conversations in DAI (except ambient ones) since you just talk to the companions and advisors in the hub.

Kinda disappointed that you didn't drink from the Well as it's a heritage of elven kind so it makes sense to drink it ONLY when you're playing as an elf. But this one will be interesting as well. :D
I didn't either with my elf. My inquisitor is too cautious to be bound to a well. Besides, I think Morrigan taking it is fitting in my opinion. I prefer not taking it.
Aww, while I get why he chose for Morrigan to drink from the Well, the loss of lore is killing me.

31:56 - yeah, Samson is a bit underused. I get that it's mostly because they needed to split the narrative depending on whether you back mages or templars, and having a different lieutenant for Corypheus depending on the route is neat, but ... Both end up quite thin characters because of that.
This is definitely my favourite quest in this game aside from the trespasser dlc! (How can you be an elf and not drink from the well mapo aaaaaaah. Joking of course!)
I would still advice to go back and look at the remaining moasics you missed and try the path to drink from the well at some point ^^ it offers up some cool lore!

Mapo: You can, if you desire, actually go the next main mission without cutting off all of the other side quests and table missions. The main quest "Doon Upon The World" is the cut off point. Once you start DUTW, all other missions are terminated. YOU WILL want to see the next main mission. It is a short mission but oh so revealing!!😁

Oh yes, there are many, many good moments in your Dragon Age series playthrough, but this one is special. So many lore bombs in short succession. And blown your mind was, very rewarding :)

Unfortunately Samson is the more underwhelming bad guy. On the templar branch the bad guy leader is much cooler and interesting - this quest also makes more sense with that particular villain.
If you are curious as to what Solas told to Abelas - it was "Your name is finished" specifically. At least as far as I can decipher it.
I am shocked you gave the well to Morrigan. Elven Inquisitor is the one time where it feels logical to take it yourself - especially with the potential to bring the elves back to the sun and all that - while we know full well Morrigan will help us do our thing and then run off galivanting to another far place - didnt expect that.

I found your channel through wanting to find a nice playthrough of dai to vibe to, just have in the background, but I got absolutely hooked and had to start from the beginning and watch the whole thing through because I absolutely love your reactions and your rambles and thoughts! It's so nice to watch someone play this who is just SO into the lore and notices all the small things, I can't wait to dive in and watch you play origins and 2 as well! I find myself just waiting for key moments in the story not so much for the story itself but to see your reactions to them :D Should probably have started from the beginning of the dragon age world but oh well lol.
I'm happy you turned on the level sync trial for the latter part of the story, it's so easy to overlevel the main story without it and fights lose alot of tension because of it.

Kool fact Mapo if you would have had your Inquisitor drink from the well, you would be able to read/translate all the ancient eleven lore you got from the mosaics in the temple. Glad you had fun, seeing your excitement was amazing.
I could be wrong but I don't think Corypheus always had the dragon. I think he was originally entirely unkillable, but in his "pride" invested some of himself in the dragon, basically granting a slight chance for you to kill him properly, but again, in his "pride" doesn't believe anyone is capable of slaying his dragon and then quickly slaying him too. Never mind even figuring out the secret. It's also possible he wasn't fully aware of this consequential effect when he invested his power in his dragon.
....such an amazing story and Lore! That is one of the reasons why Replay value is so high in this game ...at least from my perspective! 😊❤❤❤❤❤

Now, do this quest again but also bring Dorian in the party. Also, you need to reload that talk with the Sentinels. By not "Investigating" and clicking the "Special" as your first choice you lost A LOT of key lore and answers.
Argh, and he missed all the wall mosaic dialogue around the ritual puzzle area too! That's where bringing Solas and playing an elf really pays off. I blame Bioware for not making it obvious you can interact with the mosaics until you're up close - the game gets you used to being able to highlight interactable objects from a distance...
Also missed the chance to talk with Celine in the base camp and get some closure on the Halamshiral quest. Lots of things worth redoing :D

yeah, i think if the game was a more tight knit experience like mass effect 2 and 3 (or even da2 and da:o) it would be so much better
exploring is great and i get why they wanted to do something like this because everyone loves elder scrolls etc. but the problem is elder scrolls in not known for it's story really
i've played skyrim so many times yet i still have never completed the main storyline
dragon age i just love so much so i am thankful for the side content and a lot to do in a way but i know for other people it's a lot
it did win game of the year however, and i get it because the story and companion content is so good but i agree, the 'open world' type aspect is kind of what drags it down from being even better
thankfully the descent and trespasser dlc are a lot better of a balance (trespasser is one of the most top tier dlc's ever in my opinion, it's tied to the citadel dlc for mass effect)

21:00 - Missing Codex entries! You can't complete it, I don't think. Every starting race has a different Codex. Probably some for various routes, not sure about it, but there are unlock conditions out there. A bunch of it *is* in the DLC you haven't done, though.
Bunch of stuff here to remember for the future. But Corypheus could always travel bodies, before the Dragon. This just temporarily disrupts that power for a bit.
I do hope by this moment Mapo realized veilfire doesn't always mean runes, it means revealing something hidden. I mean, Fallow Mire kiiinda teaches you it might be like this but not entirely.

I like they didnt do Samson like saturday cartoon vilian, foil the plans and see you next week. In reality if mortal enemies meet - someone will die, if they get away with too much then it's hard to take seriously and the whole thing might start smelling cheesy.

@@Jul_ire As an educated guess, based on Inquisition and outside media I think DA4 will "wrap up" the big elven mysteries, and lay the groundwork for the game after that to be heavily dwarven focused, and after that, if the series survives, move onto the qunari and eventually those across the seas
I adore the main missions! They are really well done and interesting. The lore, oh the lore! I love elvhen lore so this quest is just perfection!
Solas and Morrigan are quite funny together. They do share that "I know better than others" trait (not entirely wrong either) and of course it clashes ahahah.
My inquisitor had the Mythal's vallaslin on her face so it was quite insulting to hear Morrigan explaining basic stuff about Mythal but I get that it's needed for players. But, I always ask every lines because I want to hear everything and also, Claudia Black

Characters you don't have are some of alternate path.
One of the biggest downsides to DAI's open world design is the loss of a sense of urgency. You're in the endgame but in-between What Pride Had Wrought and The Final Piece you can faff about for another 10 hours, losing that sense of investment and urgency for the climax. What Pride Had Wrought should have been a point of no return in the game, similar to Ilos in ME1. Do what you want before that point because, once you start, it's on rails until the end because the story needs that continuity.

Aye the games greatest hinderance is the bloat from filler content. The main quests and character stuff is excellent but they desperately tried to make the game more like open world games and it hurts the pacing extremely. Still plenty of good in the game and some of the best stuff yet remains (:
I certainly would love to see more samson throughout the game, but the lieutenants of corypheus that you foght and win against are often the big bad of each area. You beat them and they stay beaten instead if the big bad conveniently escaping time and time again. Plus samson is more of a general directing things like cullen is. But most importantly i dont think mapo is wrong that it oculd have been nice if they did it differently
That's the thing with this games, side stuff is too long... they grag-on... :p
I kind of get why they got rid of the option to talk to companions in the field. In DAO, you missed a lot of unique field and mission-specific dialogue with some characters like, say, Leliana, because despite them being available to talk to out there, you (most people, really) very rarely did. Which is a pity, as I know you would have loved to hear them. On the other hand, while it may feel like something was lost, you missed fewer conversations in DAI (except ambient ones) since you just talk to the companions and advisors in the hub.
Well if you want a real challenge turn all challenges on and switch to nightmare difficulty 😅
