this is te only song in all of history that i feel like is magic, it literally feels like he is casting a spell. "yes to dance beneath the diamond sky, with one hand waving free" that line brings me to tears every time. tears from the absolute joy of it. it is a metaphor, for everything that is great, it represents true absolute freedom, it represents the unbridled exuberance of youth, it represents all the wonder and the joy of existence and infinity of the quest for knowledge.
I agree with everything you said. I have no words to express the feeling this song and this line gives me. I guess just gratitude, for being able to hear, understand and be touched by it in such a deep way.
dancing 'neath the diamond sky with one hand waving free--I can see it the image, feel being there, throwing my body into it, smell and hear the salt air and waves. Rich in every way. Hearing this again, that literary award seems appropriate.....
I think that when I listen to Bringing It All Back Home...then I think the same for Blonde on Blonde....and again about Blood on the Tracks....and so it goes
And to think 25 years ago when my mother put this on I was mortified only now I really appreciate what she did for me and siblings almost forcing us to listen.. we now all do same to our kids.. timeless masterpiece x
It is December 24, 2021. It is almost Christmas, and I don't know why my soul wants to listen to Bob Dylan, maybe God wants me to listen to Mr. Dylan to learn the Art of life and, meaning, and happiness. God bless everyone and Merry Christmas!
@@clemenaparente9773 It is almost Christmas … if it’s the 24th of December, it’s Christmas Eve - that’s the most exciting time for a child! I used to love that sense of anticipation … my mum and dad would allow us a glass of beer, or a small sherry - stuff that they wouldn’t normally allow, except it was Christmas. Then there would be all the different meats to eat; turkey, duck, beef, ham with roasted goose or duck fat potatoes, a selection of vegetables and cranberry sauce, different cheeses and later on, either a small glass of eggnog or Irish cream, a trifle, mince pies and Christmas cake! Then we would sit around the fire and watch a film, or one of the better comedians on television. Just simple things but you’re hopeful when you’re growing up and it’s Christmas and people are making the effort to be kind. And then you get older … but you still make the effort, because you want your own children to have that same sense of anticipation and excitement their selves. Still three weeks to go, but a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you!
I will never forget the first time I heard this song - and that is 56 years ago. It has such joy and conviction, beautiful singing. He knew he had something really special when he recorded this, you can hear it in the performance. I never tire of it. Sometimes I wish I could!! And for the guitarists out there, note that beautiful low E string, down-tuned to a C. So beautiful.
Incidentally, Like A Rolling Stone is number 1 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s best 500 songs. It’s not Tambourine Man but I imagine that one isn’t far behind.
"We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold." -Hunter S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Rest in peace you absolute literary legend. Thank you for inspiring me.
This song helped me get through a really rough time From April to June I was a "Locally Stranded Individual", stuck by myself in the capital (Manila) far from my hometown, from my family, friends, and girlfriend. Thank you, Mr. Tambourine man, thank you, Bob Dylan

I was a kid in the 70s, and didn't care for disco AT ALL. My solution was to turn and plunge into the music of the previous generation. Since there was a lot of it still on the radio (and still is), it was a good plan. Subsequently became a massive Dylan fan (among many others). So this was the soundtrack of my youth. Makes me a little wistful, remembering it all. Thanks for giving me a place to hide, Bob.
Something about the way Dylan just keeps blasting you with the poetry in the last verse of the song, is just so transcendental. It just pulls you into this place of freedom. Definitely one of my all time favorites.
While this song has a elements of longing, I believe that Dylan is also bowing to the joy of feeling free, and to the power of love, hope, spirituality, music, and the imagination. Like others, I feel the tears well up when I hear this song, but they are not tears of sorrow but of heartfelt gratitude for Dylan's ability to have touched me so deeply over the decades (I'm in my 70's and bought his first album way-back-when). And he continues to do so as he (and I) move through this life....saw him for the first time in LA a few weeks ago and could relate to the healing wisdom everything he was offering to the audience! So on a personal note, Thank You, Bob, for sharing your talent and your life with your fans. Blessings to you now and always, Sherrie V.
1965...The first time I heard this tune was when the Byrds recorded it. I know Bob wrote it and did it first, but I wasn't into folk music back then. Even though I knew he was a prolific songwriter I really didn't start listening to Dylan until after the release of the "Hurricane" song on the Desire Album (1976). From that point on, I've been a huge fan, and instead of just listening to other artists singing his songs I also started listening & purchasing his albums. Most definitely a Musical Genius.
I was listening to Tolstoy tales and people in the comments were mentioning Dylan. I can imagine they would have quite a conversation and an understanding of one another.

When I first heard this on the radio in 88, I had to get Bob's Greatest Hits vol.1 on cassette. Wore out 3 copies. Was in high school & felt lost because my parents also divorced in 88. Bob in a way helped me find my way with his music. Thanks, Bob.
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you Though I know that evening's empire has returned into sand Vanished from my hand Left me blindly here to stand, but still not sleeping My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet I have no one to meet And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you Take me on a trip upon your magic swirling ship My senses have been stripped My hands can't feel to grip My toes too numb to step Wait only for my boot heels to be wandering I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade Into my own parade Cast your dancing spell my way, I promise to go under it Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you Though you might hear laughing, spinning, swinging madly across the sun It's not aimed at anyone It's just escaping on the run And but for the sky there are no fences facing And if you hear vague traces of skipping reels of rhyme To your tambourine in time It's just a ragged clown behind I wouldn't pay it any mind It's just a shadow you're seeing that he's chasing Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you And take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind Down the foggy ruins of time Far past the frozen leaves The haunted frightened trees Out to the windy beach Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky With one hand waving free Silhouetted by the sea Circled by the circus sands With all memory and fate Driven deep beneath the waves Let me forget about today until tomorrow Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me In the jingle jangle morning, I'll come following you

"yes to dance beneath the diamond sky, with one hand waving free" that line brings me to tears every time. tears from the absolute joy of it. it is a metaphor, for everything that is great, it represents true absolute freedom, it represents the unbridled exuberance of youth, it represents all the wonder and the joy of existence and infinity of the quest for knowledge.
so you will see why the high of a drug gives freedom for a little while.
He is the greatest songwriter of all time. That is just a fact known by many.
Hank sr was. But hey...
Dylan, Pac & 7ru Factz.
Oh fuck yes he is ---
And I'm not sleepy
Peter Hammill, Jeff Mangum and Frank Zappa are equally brilliant, in their own way.
This song makes me feel nostalgic for something. I can’t say what, or even if I lived through it. Just a general feeling of nostalgia
Maybe time? I dont really know but to me the song is about an old man who's alone and stuff.
Exactly. It's full of melancholy.
A dream of hope based in truth ... mmmmmaybe and now that has gone looping gone
Dreams.
I think you could be my soulmate...
As many masterful albums Bob Dylan has recorded, Bringing It All Back Home is the MASTERPIECE.
A masterpiece lyrically !
Exquisite and iconic performance from Bob. My idol! Did you ever attend any of his concert?
It is December 24, 2021. It is almost Christmas, and I don't know why my soul wants to listen to Bob Dylan, maybe God wants me to listen to Mr. Dylan to learn the Art of life and, meaning, and happiness. God bless everyone and Merry Christmas!
......and a belated Merry Christmas to you-thank you-
@@clemenaparente9773 It is almost Christmas … if it’s the 24th of December, it’s Christmas Eve - that’s the most exciting time for a child!
All of human longings distilled into one gem of a song. "Yes to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free ..."!

This song was the one of the last songs my grandpa posted on his Facebook before he passed this past January. It reminds me of him a lot.
If any song perfectly encapsulates the best of the 60s, this is it.
This is my vote for the greatest song ever written.
Incidentally, Like A Rolling Stone is number 1 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s best 500 songs. It’s not Tambourine
Man but I imagine that one isn’t far behind.
My father Love this song . He is 58 and loved all the rock, pop, jazz and almost everykind of music and songs
"We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold."

Rest in peace you absolute literary legend. Thank you for inspiring me.
This songs evokes a spirit of dancing and singing under the stars

This song helped me get through a really rough time
From April to June I was a "Locally Stranded Individual", stuck by myself in the capital (Manila) far from my hometown, from my family, friends, and girlfriend. I hadn't cried so much during that time since my grandfather passed away two years ago
I found a sense of peace in Bob Dylan, and more specifically this song. Thank you, Mr. Tambourine man, thank you, Bob Dylan
If you happen to read this Bob, you are my #1 childhood Idol! Thank you.
Geez this song has so many good memories... Proper classic. Who else is watching during lockdown?

This man wrote this when he was 22 years old... I can't comprehend this, it seems like a joke. One of the biggest musicians of the 20th century.

"Alpha Shadow" --- RIP to your dad --- And God bless you too! - " ... to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free ... " WHAT an image! Indeed, Bob Dylan's "Mr Tambourine Man" touched so many people's Souls in its utter, beautiful simplicity!
Tomorow my Mr. Tambourine Man complete 80 years old, poetry, music, eternal songs, greatest star, imortal, timelessness ... What a emotion, my God! I forget my loss to homenade my greatest idol: Bob Dylan. Happy Birthday, my Mr. Tambourine Man! God bless you!

Hello friend how are you doing today, I guess you must be a fan of oldies music too
The poetry is so beautiful, it makes me happy and close to tears at the same time!
Hello how are you doing today 😊i guess you must love oldies song too
Hello Vick
I was a kid in the 70s, and didn't care for disco AT ALL. My solution was to turn and plunge into the music of the previous generation. Since there was a lot of it still on the radio (and still is), it was a good plan. Subsequently became a massive Dylan fan (among many others). So this was the soundtrack of my youth. Makes me a little wistful, remembering it all. Thanks for giving me a place to hide, Bob.
ty Mr Bob Dylan one of my old favorites I woke up this morning with this song on my mind haven't thought of it in year's God bless
I woke up with it too!
Something about the way Dylan just keeps blasting you with the poetry in the last verse of the song, is just so transcendental. It just pulls you into this place of freedom. Definitely one of my all time favorites.
I admire the music and soul you bring to a homeless man
each day every breath
Dylan has been my favorite since summer of 1968
While this song has a elements of longing, I believe that Dylan is also bowing to the joy of feeling free, and to the power of love, hope, spirituality, music, and the imagination.
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here
God bless you n mr Dylan Zimmerman bob.from bharatdesh
that was 48 years ago - and still rings such hard truth for the billions on this earth - genius song writing man...
Playing for grandma who is in the hospital against her wishes due to her daughter being power of attorney. The tears!!! Thank u Bob Dylan
Hello how are you doing today 😊i guess you must love oldies song too
This speaks to the soul, a free spirit of yesterday, forgetting about today until tomorrow.
Diese großartige Musik begleitet , inspiriert und begeistert mich seit gut 4 Jahrzehnten ohne jemals ermüdend zu sein!! Danke Bob, gut, dass es dich gibt!❤
I come here everyday!
Happy Birthday BOB😘🦋
Bright days ahead! I still remember how hard it was looking for dylan's original on youtube.
When I first heard this on the radio in 88, I had to get Bob's Greatest Hits vol.1 on cassette. Wore out 3 copies. Was in high school & felt lost because my parents also divorced in 88. Bob in a way helped me find my way with his music. Thanks, Bob.
A true beautiful inspiring masterpiece.
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you
Though I know that evening's empire has returned into sand
Vanished from my hand
Left me blindly here to stand, but still not sleeping
My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet
I have no one to meet
And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you
Take me on a trip upon your magic swirling ship
My senses have been stripped
My hands can't feel to grip
My toes too numb to step
Wait only for my boot heels to be wandering
I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade
Into my own parade
Cast your dancing spell my way, I promise to go under it
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you
Though you might hear laughing, spinning, swinging madly across the sun
It's not aimed at anyone
It's just escaping on the run
And but for the sky there are no fences facing
And if you hear vague traces of skipping reels of rhyme
To your tambourine in time
It's just a ragged clown behind
I wouldn't pay it any mind
It's just a shadow you're seeing that he's chasing
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you
And take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time
Far past the frozen leaves
The haunted frightened trees
Out to the windy beach
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky
With one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea
Circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate
Driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning, I'll come following you
Anyone else under 20 but still really love this song? It's entrancing and I just love how it pulls you out of you're own head.
18 years old will always be here

When it comes to music, it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been with us. You can be 13 or 30, all that truly matters is that music makes you feel something inside, that’s it.

Happy birthday mr Bob Dylan. The great poet from America.

Double English A level, Lower Sixth, Changi Grammar School 1967. An inspirational English teacher brought his Dylan albums into class and said there is more to English Literature than Shakespeare and all the great novelists. How right he was. Been a Dylan fan ever since. By the way, got a B and made it to Durham University.
"take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind" 💛
I think this song is just Bod Dylan praying; Whether you are a (noble) theist or atheist it will comfort your heart.
OMG!... As lots of people say here, How in the world this poem can be written at 24?
To me, the Nobel Academy prize to Bob Dylan was more a prize to themselves than to himself.
Beautiful. He shares a bit of his soul in his voice.
