Why was this album so disliked? It has catchy riffs, great solos, and an instramental. Trivium does not have a bad album, some are just better than others. I personally love this album.
+Ryan Marr I love this album I even think that ember to inferno is better the newer stuff. But new age new tastes I guess. After Vengeance falls it was done hill lost hits edge for me.
This album was disliked because it was very different album than Ascendancy, I remember this was the first single that came out and I wasn't expecting it to sound like this, but I really enjoyed it. I always thought Unrepentant was such an underrated song off of this album as well.
+Ryan Marr 100% agree. Look at In Waves man, some of the stuff on that album was insane yet everybody seems to still hate it. Its got some of their heaviest material on it, and some ridiculously good songs.
This song is about Andrea Yates, who drowned her 5 children to death due to succumbing from depression and psychosis. In fact, a lot of songs from "The Crusade" are based on infamous murders. Also, with the lyrical context, it fits a Thrash Metal song seamlessly. Just goes to show how great Trivium's lyrics can be. Lastly, RIP to those beautiful 5 children. May they be at peace :(.
That's what separates Trivium from other popular metalcore bands (BFMV, A7X etc), they always had deep and meaningful lyrics and not just "You left me now I'm sad/angry" type of shit
Thanks I was just asking my wife who they are talking about. She's a murderer watcher so to speak. She said Andrea Yates and came here to look at comments. Now to ask Matt some questions on a live stream. What the hell is Question! By SOAD about? Since everyone is listing bands with interesting lyrics system of a down has that nailed in a coffin.
2023 and almost 60 years old,..... Love Trivium,.... from beginning to present to future, I will be rockin and headbangin until I am no longer able !! 🤘🎵🎼🎶😺✌
The In Waves album also has incredible drums, the style differs but still powerful and loud as fuck rythms! But the Shogun track and album are top grade music as well :)
But now we have Mr. Alex Bent and I’d have to say he’s the best drummer Trivium has had. True that Travis has the nostalgia with three great Trivium albums under his belt but as far as pure talent goes, Alex has it all day.
"If anyone is wondering why the screaming is gone it's because the four of us were never into bands that scream and we don't like any of the current bands that scream, so we asked ourselves why we're doing it. The only reason I started screaming in the first place is because I sucked at singing and wanted to be the frontman of a band."
This is fucking amazing. This is as Thrash as it gets. Matt's voice is uncanny in it's similarity to Hetfield's. That's not an insult though, Hetfield was at the top of any metal singer's game during the Master of Puppets and Justice era. I actually think Matt is better here than James ever was in fact. Matt had more range at this time. When I listen to Pull Harder, than this, than Shogun. I really sit back and realize why Trivium is my favorite band. No matter what style they incorporate they make it top notch. Best metal band of the past 15 years easily.
I think you're right. Anything they do, they do well even if you don't like it. I dont like silence in the snow but I do like vengeance falls, both are quality music for what they are it just depends. Shogun, sin and the sentence, and ascendancy are probably my top 3
I think that all of the Trivium albums are brilliant, Ember launched them, Ascendancy got them noticed and showed their heaviness, then they really needed to do an album different to the previous 2 because if they'd done the same thing, no one would have respected them or taken them seriously, and they would have faded away, also it showed amazing technical skill and good songwriting, then finally Shogun just took all the best bits and moulded them into one with a fresh new aspect as well. :D
Damn, I wish this song was longer. It goes by so fast. But, I guess part of the intensity of the song comes from putting so much complexity in such a short song.
I'm a new trivium listener.... I've listened to ascendancy shogun and the crusade.. let me tell you.. HOW THE FUCK CAN ONE BAND BE SO FUCKING GOOD AND CONSISTENT!??!!?
I cannot choose which of their albums I like better... Their four albums are all too good! and I don'y know why most people hate the crusade! It's very good album
Not hate, I think people was caught by surprise. The direction it went was different than the previous album. But now I think people will start to appreciate this album more.
Being a Thrash Fan, I love The Crusade :) Together with Shogun it is my favorite Trivium-Album and it is very underrated. I hope my english is alright. I am from Germany xD
I remember buying this album in 2007 and being blown away by how awesome it was. I must have listened through it over 20 times + front to back. 2007 was also the time I was getting into heavier music, like Slayer, Exodus, Sadus, Heathen, and Atrophy.
In almost every video from Trivium i watch people are saying they miss the "old" Trivium. It's not because they try something different every album they have changed. But if bands play always the same kind of stuff the fans complain that every song sounds the same... Fans always complain, no matter what the band does
Honestly top 10 solos of all time in my mind. And yes this is going among the ranks of Queen, BtBaM, etc. This just... has so much raw emotion beyond showing off how fast and proficient one can play. I can feel the pain.
Trivium were ahead of their time when they released this album. If they would have released it in 2012, during the height of the Thrash resurgence, it would have exploded.
One day, maybe millions of years into the future, people will mature enough to stop calling everything that doesn’t exactly match a very particular type of sound as “sellouts” or “posers,” and just enjoy music for what it is. I’ve definitely seen vast improvement in that regard since the early-mid 2010’s, but make no mistake, metal elitists still abound. Hopefully one day that will change for good. This song and album are absolutely killer, btw.
Another quality song by one of the best bands in the world,in fact all Trivium songs are 100% quality never found any of them lacking in detail, intensity, passion, subject matter, simply put fucking awesome band!!!! hope they continue into there 60's just like the quo and and the stones :)
Some people say Trivium are posers, but they're not. For me the answer is: bands without guitar solos=posers, bands with guitars solos=metal. That means; Trivium=true metal.
@MilesOlsenMusic As it turns out, I said a lot of weird shit 16 years ago. No, I would not consider Knocked Loose posers, they are awesome. Most likely, I was the biggest poser all along😅
the crusade was one of my fav albums.... its trivium.... but also reminds me of metallica before the black album!!!! plus the crusade also had an intrumental at the end....best album ever!!!
Very good song, Becoming the Dragon owns everything else on this album though. And after listening to really intense Children of Bodom, I can finally hear and appreciate Travis's BR00TAL blastbeats.
It sounds like Metallica, yeah, whole "The Crusade" album sounds like Metallica. So what? Metallica influenced Trivium, they decided to make a thrash metal album, so where's the problem if they use Metallica style?
It's just thrash. Metallica are the thrash pioneers so people say they sound like Metallica. They also sound like slayer, like megadeth... They just sound thrash
I love this band, these guys have been twice to the chav wasteland that is Stoke on Trent where I live, to show what Metal is all about!!!!!! Tony.................Auroris............
Mert Okatan I remember from an interview he briefly talked about life before Trivium and how he used to just sit around and practice guitar all day until one day Trivium just picked him up before they started writing material for 'Ascendancy'.
Sound like Metallica? These guys? You should share some of that shit that you've been smoking. I am an occasional Trivium listener and not too familiar with 90% of their catalogue, but Trivium is a band that I can easily identify if someone were to test me. Their songs have a certain sound to them, and Matt's vocals can be easily recognized. These guys sound nowhere close to Metallica.
thank you, your not the only one who thinks like this! I listen to almost nothing but hip-hop today yet i still enjoy listening to some good old Trivium since i used to listen to alot of Metal, trivium we're one of those bands i started my metal journey with, most people start with other bands when first listening to metal but me it was these guys, and like i said i still listen to metal and still enjoy trivium, music is music so yeah damn right i'm with you :)
I started out listening to bands like Korn & Limp Bizkit, and then moved on to the more harsher stuff. Because of that, I bypassed old school bands for the most part, and to this day I don't like any of them. No Slayer, no Megadeth, no Judas Priest, No Iron Maiden, none of that stuff. Old school Metallica's the only exception.
I know your post is like 2 months old but whatever. Yes they do sound very similar to metallica not exact but similar. The reason people compare them is because their first two album were straight metal core with badass screams. Then for whatever reason they completely changed their sound to more metal, and it's obviously metallica inspired can't deny that he sings just like Hetfield. I guess instead of metal-core now they are just metal-lica.
Wow, I'm really glad that they chose an audience I can connect with for this video. You could probably count the number of people in that crowd who don't live with their parents on one hand.
Are you kidding? This is the most Hetfield-ish singing I've ever heard from anyone who is not Hetfield himself. I love this song but I can't say it doesn't sound a lot like Metallica to me.
One of the best metal acts today. Yeah, they're influenced by Metallica, but since Metallica waved bye bye to metal after the Black Album, I'd say it's a fair trade. They remind me more of early Megadeth, to be honest. Their riffs are just mean and I love them for it. Dimebag would be proud. Other great bands out right now are Gojira and Killswitch Engage (with Howard singing). METAL FOREVER!

+HarvesterOfSorrow01 yeah trivium is probably the most not-hated metalcore band ever. they started off with a bit of death metal- metalcore-lish first album which imo is still amazing and then transcended into thrash-metalcore.. early killswitch engage and trivium is what metalcore must be..
They REALLY should have kept going in this direction. This album was fantastic, and if they kept this up, they could have one day taken the torch from Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer, but they fucked it up by going full on metalcore. Same thing with Black Tide...another band that had amazing potential.
