It's funny how so many people don't know that Matt is a huge fan of video games, and that this song was written specifically for God of War III. I think it fits perfectly.
@Jhoel Ortega Yeah, t'was released on a God Of War 3 special album called Blood & Metal Track Listing Killswitch Engage - My Obsession Trivium - Shattering the Skies Above Dream Theater - Raw Dog (Instrumental) Taking Dawn - This is Madness Opeth - The Throat of Winter Mutiny Within - The End The Turtlenecks - Even Gods Cry
+Nick Argyilan gotta listen to Ember to Inferno then...when Matt was like 15, pretty raw album but very intense.....their first three albums were very intense and they got refined from say Shogun
As a fan of the God of War game series, I was really suprised to find out that Roadrunner had actually made a six song tributory EP for GOW 3. When I first heard this song, the EP's 2nd track, I immediately liked the song's structure. Hard and heavy, yet also calm and cool. Awesome song.
It’s a bit repetitive. I remember when it first came out thinking the chorus is repeated non stop and it gets old. If you didn’t know the name of the song when it started, you know by the end that’s for sure
I discovered Trivium during the Ascendancy days, so I’m one of those folks that really isn’t a fan of the In Waves era. THAT BEING SAID: This song is fucking KILLER. Nick’s grooves on this one are so smooth yet brutal. He did amazing on this one, and that pre-pre-chorus riff is pure thrash awesomeness.
I dont know about anyone else, but they have always seemed to me like people you would want to hang out with. They seem to do such an amazing job of being a band you can relate to and hear from individually. Not only is their music beyond amazing, they seem to be just as awesome themselves. Thanks Trivium. You are all fantastic. Cant wait to see your show!
How could you not mentioned Nick? I was afraid about Trivium when Travis left but, bloody hell, Nick fit just perfectly into Trivium! Trivium took a HUGE step with Nick being part of the band, he deserves be recognized!
This might just be me, but the whole Album In Waves is from top to bottom perfect. Every song feels like it fits, it's heavy without being too load to where it doesn't sound like pure noise (in other words, there's a rhythm and melody to ever song,) It feels like this should be a seperate game in the same vain as GOD 3, obiviously maybe with a bit of japanese themes behind it.
I have to say, this bands screams are the stuff of legend. Perfectly understandable, and still providing that edge that speaks to you on another level. Makes you want to kick peoples teeth in and laugh at the moon.
I came to listen to this unique song, because this with each subsequent album made with Nick, it became clearer to me that Trivium song like this will never happen again... And so I applaud this piece of aggression undiminished by melody. Don't get me wrong not crying about direction Trivium is taking, just trying to appreciate what seems to be and to be for all eternity Trivium with extreme metal drumming.
A lot of singers of this type of music try and ween themselves off of it after a certain amount of time. Constantly singing like that has to be absolute murder on the vocal chords and eventually you just can't do it anymore without causing permanent damage. Where that limit is is different for each person but you can't sing metalcore forever. That's why ASX switched up their styles, cause Shadows wouldnt be able to keep singing like that and keep his voice intact.
Tommy Messina you seem to have missed the point of my post - extreme metal drumming. Yes, Matt is clearly leaning towards clean vocals, but my post was more about what a great song this is.
trivium is a great band and totally undermined, they deserve more popularity and support from metal fans!albeit, dear trivium, you have many fans in Greece too! We're longing for a show :)
First of all, 'screaming into the mic' isn't what makes it MUSIC, the drums, guitar, bass, and yes, vocal tracks are. Second, people (like myself and the others that enjoy Trivium's music) enjoy this, and 'screaming' isn't exactly what he and Corey do. There's more to it than that. Also, music is sound that people like. A large amount of people like this sound. Put two and two together.
I've been listening to trivium for like 2 years and now they are my favourite band.It is my dream to meet every single person in the band.I love Matt's brutal screams, his clean vocals,Paolo is one of my fav. bass players,Corey is one of the best guitarists I have ever seen in my life. I am a bass player and I have a band. My dream is to be just like Matt Heafy, to go on a tour with them! This song is my favourite because its full of agressive energy and emotion at the same time.TRIVIUM FOR LIFE!
May not of cared much for the latest album, but gotta hand it to Trivium, always adapting and trying new things, never sticking to the same one sound is a great thing! Some people may not like that but its truly a great thing and real fans will still always listen to them even if they just stick to their older material.
Doing the math, it is impossible for you to have listened to it that long.thats almost 25 years and I'm 25.this has been out for almost 8 years....just kidding lol.
Absolutely if you're filled with rage heavy metal burns it to ash and then you're mellow it's healthy stress relief and we listen to metal for the MUSIC the instruments is what we're attracted to the singing and lyrics are secondary and if you're Educated you know metal composition is remarkably similar to classical so those of us who Rock simply appreciate REAL MUSIC
I vaguely remember this song and it was the introduction to Trivium I never knew was Trivium, my brother got the soundtrack and it was my favorite off the soundtrack and looking back at this song now, I can remember everything from it, I started to sing it as I heard the start of the lyrics, good ol' trivium
I do know Matt is a huge fan of Spawn and Final Fantasy, I wouldn't be surprised if he enjoyed himself some GoW. Esp since Shogun had quite a few Greek myth songs.
It's awesome when you have a band that writes such dynamic, unique metal and they don't need to make a video of people getting shot and blood going everywhere to be badass. MUSIC
This song is only on the special edition of in waves, and was written for a compilation album that was released along side of one of the god of war games
+LarsUlrichIsMe went way overboard. There was a reason travis smith was drummer of the universe at one point. He stole the show when needed and let the band have their part. Travis smith is a master, earned title... Also makes this guy look like an amateur. Being fast isn't what it's about
It's funny how so many people don't know that Matt is a huge fan of video games, and that this song was written specifically for God of War III. I think it fits perfectly.
@Jhoel Ortega He's telling you that the song was written for GOW3, it doesn't matter what Matt is playing on the video!
@Jhoel Ortega Yeah, t'was released on a God Of War 3 special album called Blood & Metal
Track Listing
Killswitch Engage - My Obsession
Trivium - Shattering the Skies Above
Dream Theater - Raw Dog (Instrumental)
Taking Dawn - This is Madness
Opeth - The Throat of Winter
Mutiny Within - The End
The Turtlenecks - Even Gods Cry
it was written for the HD collection i think! a great fucking song tho
Fucking yes it does. In fact this song is the times more epic than that game lol!!
The lyrics in the booklet of ascendancy are in the same font that the original God Of War guide is in.
Matt’s screams during the In Waves era were just blistering!
His screaming during that era was amazing. Id call it the highlight of his career
it was throat cutting for sure he almost lost his voice bc of that glad he can still scream and not damage himself at the same time
Check out Suffocating Sight from Chapman Studios sessions… epic🤘🏼
@@dylanmyers995 it's the best version of that song.

Where could you rent a ps3 at seriously 🤔😳
Chris Faulkner rent a center i think lol

I used to play smash brothers on GC when this song came out, one of the best times in my life
Truly the greatest Metal band of all time. Not a single bad track in this massive discography. This song is always fucking killer.
I still think this is the best song they’ve ever written. There’s just such an insane energy to the song that never gets old
"ZEUS YOUR SON HAS RETURNED!!!"
5 years later and this is still THE Trivium song for me. Such an amazing track, fuck me.
+Luuk Derksen there is an intensity in this song that really isnt in their other songs
I dig your name
+Nick Argyilan gotta listen to Ember to Inferno then...when Matt was like 15, pretty raw album but very intense.....their first three albums were very intense and they got refined from say Shogun
Akil Manwaring oh I know, I've been a trivium fan for 10 years now. Yes their first few albums were very raw
I love all their first five albuns, all of them got me really hard
This song was pretty much Trivium saying "We've got a new drummer. He's not too shabby really"
+Liam Podmore lol
Travis smith will always be their best.
+RC Fanatics Travis smith has issues .....
+Liam Podmore Then he got kicked out cause he couldn't play shit on the live shows.
+Wolfrik Hordenailer no not the actual reason he didn't like being away from family so constantly if you followed Nick on IG you'd know

Absolute masterpiece. I've been recently obsessed with this song. I'm literally in love with it. I can't stop listening to it.

I agree, found them at their debut. However the new album is pretty damn good
I'm simply expressing how much I love Matt Heafy and his music, and what an inspiration he is to my music.
The main riff sounds like something Dimebag would've come up with. Man, I love Trivium.

For those that want to know what album Matt's showing at @4:08, it's "Apocalyptic Revelation" by Krisiun. Great Brazilian death metal!!!
Trivium are one of the few bands that can play really good live. Much respect
This song has all you can like in Metal, blast on the drums, powerful chorus, shred, scream, harmonies. A fucking good song
Really? Hmm… 🤔🙂
