LYRICS
Blind-folded and gagged, stood waiting
With the whole world: my firing squad
At the edge of the world I'm faced out
Staring the sun right in the eye
Vultures circle above, hyenas mocking the kill
Excrement drooling down their chins
Atop the cliffs I look down, into the starving Hell-mouth
The rabid foam crashes hard on its teeth
Their mouth's salivate
Fantasizing my gruesome ending
This world looks down upon
A man who can stand on his own two feet
As they're feeding their guns: "Ready, aim"
They say I'll live, if I die for their cause
Living under the rule of fellow Cro-Magnon fool
They fear who leads and will kill to stay still
Their mouth's salivate
Fantasizing my gruesome ending
This world looks down upon
A man who can stand on his own two feet
Without eating from their claws
Life feels quite like Hell should
But this Hells so cold
Pull another knife out
Stick it with rest of them
When my back is full
Turn me around to face it
Life feels quite like Hell should
But this Hells so cold
Pull another knife out
Stick it with rest of them
When my back is full
Turn me around to face it
Such melancholy, burning the stars from skies
As we melt, drowning inside their bloodied eyes
Hope is ravaged, running from lacerations
Sob so heavily, we choke, then we die
Die
Life feels quite like Hell should
But this Hells so cold
Pull another knife out
Stick it with rest of them
When my back is full
Turn me around to face it [4x]
Go
Sob so heavily, we choke, then we die

Who's listening to this in 2024 ..
Daily
Never stopped!
Always listening
Haven’t stopped since 2003
And so are my neighbors 😆😉
Am I the only one that likes both new and old Trivium?
Nah man still loving em
Trivium will always make great music, but it changes every album.
+Andy Shafer Right here bro
Their whole discography is incredible
+Andy Shafer Nah man, both are just as good as one another in their own way, even though the differences can actually be looked at easily, I can still hear the normal, "Trivium" ways in their guitar technique! :)
Personally, I LOVED the Shogun album, mostly due to its thrash instincts and sick guitar action! No matter how many times I listen to "He Who Spawned the Furies" or "Of Prometheus and the Crucifix", it is just as good as the first time I have listened to it!
The people that usually hate this band is because they mostly moved away from a certain genre they might have adored! To me, it seems interesting the way Trivium experiments with their sound! The Silence in the Snow album may be too light or mid-tempo for me, but it still is fun to try and listen to something new! :) (By the way, the more I listened to "Silence in the Snow", the more it was stuck in my head... XD)
Shogun is definitely their most technical and melodic album. Ascendancy was pure brutal. Shogun is their prime, my opinion
The Crusade is more melodic. Shogun is great mix of the melodic style of The Crusade mixed with the brutal sound of Ascendancy.
Trivium my dudes!
best albums of trivium ascendancy the crusade and shogun that albums I have in my cd collection
I love metal when there are also nice melodies and harmonies
I think for nostalgic reasons I'll always see Ascendancy as their best album, but I can absolutely understand why people think Shogun is their peak, its such a banger.
That moment when you got to a Trivium show and you forgot your dictionnary
+Nicolas Genier That's very original man, really nailed it :D
Nicolas Genier *thesaurus
I can tell. U misspelled dictionary😂
That moment when you get lost at the riffs
You never heard a Bad Religion album thanks to them I knew the word Trepidation before I ever heard Trivium's A Gunshsot To The Head Of Trepidation.
Matt's hair around shogun era was the best in my opinion
I'm agree
he's going to be bald soon
ascandency... there he had the best hair....
xD
Personally I think the music is more important, and the fact that he wears it however the fuck he wants 👍🏻
Gotta be the only band that made my english vocabulary better. Not too many other bands have lyrics to figure out what they mean. Matt is definitely well educated.
Try "Shadows Fall"
Dennis19901 or sylosis or lamb of god or machine head
Gui Tariste Sylosis is so fucking awesome
Definitely listen to Sylosis!
Al Alberqurque Check out Opeth man
Trivium's song names enhance my english vocabulary with words I have never heard - best kind of education :D
I totally agree, their lyrics are sweet cream for the taste! :D They are full of different meanings and most of the songs on Shogun are connected with mythology or books. Some people are also fed up with the same lyrics about love, hearts broken and sex!! Trivium brings something different and more cultered! ; )
Sobek croc You'd love Amon Amarth then. ALL their songs are about viking warriors, viking history or Norse Mythology. Twilight of the Thunder God is a good starter album.
yep like i did not know that perdition ment hell before this
Kerrigor2 perfect for me ^^
Wow, shit. I wonder if there's something like a word encyclopedia that one could look at...like a book that had a bunch of words and their meanings, and then one that had all their synonyms and antonyms and whatnot...bet you'd find lots of words in those...
Throes: Struggle relating to life or death
Perdition: Eternal damnation; hell
This song is about struggling to escape from hell, but failing over and over again.
I think there's actually a bit more to it, at least the video. The man in the video is obviously struggling, but the chains of hell continue to pull him back. He eventually breaks free of them, only to come to face to with justice (the woman), who then turns him to stone. I think what the song and video are saying is that, despite however much one may struggle, there is no escaping from the fate we've carved for ourselves, and we all must face the consequences of our actions.
Certainly sounds like something Matt would write.
+Aaron Turner I like you interpretation. Makes sense. Has lots of meaning.
RagingRogue 29 It was easy for me to come up with because that's the sort of thing I would write. I actually used to write a lot of songs with that sort of somewhat obscure symbolism, and much in the same style as Matt, so I kind of know how he thinks when it comes to lyrics.
Thats cool, same genre?
RagingRogue 29 Basically, yeah. it all depended on what I felt like doing that day. The stuff I wrote usually ranged from thrash metal to death metal, to black metal.
The whole Trivium discography is a masterpiece.
But this song is something different. It's just the best!
Life feeEEEeeells like Hell should, this Hell's so cold. Pull another knife out! Stick it with the rest of theeeEEeemm, when my back is full, turn me around and face it!!
FRRRR THO 🙌🙌🙌
It's a masterpiece not just for the music but the lyrics speaks of the hardest truth of life.
This song makes me turn back to God, honestly.
Long haired Matt Heafy and Paolo Gregoletto don't exist they can't hurt you
Long haired Matt Heafy and Paolo Gregoletto:
I was like is that paolo? With hair? omg
They were metallica as fuck
I love how they started out with long hair but slowly cut it shorter until they went bald
Throes of Perfection......this song got one of the best riff of all time!
using Trivium to drown out holiday music from the tv in the other room.
Lol me too
+Eric T Same here
Fuckin awesome comment XD
thats one way to do it
Woooooo 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
11 years later.. this song still SLAPS HARD !!
that for sure
damn right it does!
Fuck ya Rock on
This album really was a metal masterpiece...
And still is!!!
I like when Matt said in an interview that if you like albums like Ascendancy better, then put it in your stereo and enjoy it! :-)
I actually really like the vocals in this song for some reason. They provide both a sense of melody and a sense of aggression at the same time. I guess a lot of Matt Heafy’s vocals are like that but they just hit different in this song
Imo it works so well because it's like a beautifully tragic anthem and the mix of melodic singing with the harsh growls adds to the dynamic of the riffs in a way that just perfectly captures the feel of the song almost like the motivation you get with the guitar solos mixed with anguish of the lyrics and how tough life can be it brings you up and brings you down just like life such a beautiful duality that makes this song an all time classic that will always be one of their best songs
Huge Hatfield influence shows in this song
É tipo um james Hetfiel com esteroides.
those riffs...so good. actually no...everything is pure excellence. please excuse me while i thoroughly enjoy this song.
You are excused
@@liamgoodwin3056 Beat me to it 😂
The poetry in Trivium's lyrics are beautiful, as well as their instrumental. They simply have it all.
This song is so fucking underrated.
This sing is like Triviums top 5 most famous song man
Metalhead1406 Nah man, except this song, Kirisute Gomen, Down From The Sky, Into The Mouth Of Hell We March and Iron Maiden, pretty much every Shogun song is underrated even the title track itself.
Throes Of Perdition is Trivium's 10th most popular song according to UA-cam so...
this album
@@randommetalhead7 Especially the title track. Best 12 minutes I've spent in ages.
Shogun is pretty much everything I want in a metal album
Fr
This song deserves SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many more views
Trivium is criminally underrated ❤
Hi
not so big fan of them, but my fav albums are Debut and "SHOGUN" (2008). Especially "into the mouth of hell We march" & "throes of perdition", of course💜🎸👍
greets to u from Russian🇷🇺🇷🇺
Only shogun is underrated
wtf have I been doing in the past decades? How did I never heard of these guys? Just today found them. Very impressed.
Been listening to this on repeat for days because it somehow helps beat the suicidal ideation. Absolutely love these guys.
I feel you there, last year when I saw this video for the first time it was so different from the rest of the stuff I had heard from them and I kept finding myself coming back to it over and over and couldn't get the chorus out of my head for like at least two or three weeks and now this song brings me to tears nearly Everytime I listen to it/ watch the video, its like a theme song to me and it just motivates me in a weird way to keep pushing through and make my life better, this song is a masterpiece!!!
Keep it up, it's a great a setting and you gotta use what you got to get through the tough moments in life, hope you have some peeps looking out for ya! 💜
Keep fighting. Music helps the soul.
We become masters when we transmute energy into what we choose. Metal has always had a special way of providing energy for the Fire that is the soul. God Bless.
His scream at the ending makes it completely perfect
yes, but he totally took it from 1000 eyes - Death
I love this Song and this Band!
Trivium - Throes of Perdition
#trivium #love #metal
awesome band
+Stephen McMillan Fucking awesome
Reasons to grow your hair out: THIS
Exactly what I’m doing mate 😂😂
Exactly what I did.
On the bad side, I look like a girl from behind...
Meanwhile receding hairline is like “Bonjour!”
Bands like Trivium are why I love Metalcore. So much melody and musicianship it's unreal, made for live performance and singalong
This is the most underrated song in metal ever share it
I hardly buy albums anymore, but I just had to pick up Shogun last week. I love how my favorite song on it keeps changing. First it was Down from the Sky, now it's this. That's when you know an album is good and you made a good purchase.
Trivium is imo probably the band with the most replay value last year alone I listened to rain 79 times (I only know that because Spotify wrapped told me lmao) still don't get tired of that song or ascendency in general their music just gets better with time!!!
I LOVE this band. They've progressed, regresssed and proved their worth. Nothing left said.
I'd never heard of Trivium before i saw this video on RAGE back when it was released, now i have the complete catalogue of Trivium albums! This one song started it all for me. Trivium fan for life!
For me it also started with this song. Heard it on Pandora and I kept coming back for more and more ever since. Now I have one album, one concert experience with them and hell even one of Matt's signature Epiphone Les Pauls....man this band is amazing
i swear matt with long hair really brings out his Asian complexion.
So hawt.
herman Li confirmed?
He's asian?
Lycaon Ryuujin yep, japanese
Vigan Rexhepi theres quite a few japanese american metal stars
2:35 when the double bass roll is played at the right tempo through its entirety, it sounds fucking beautiful. I caught Alex Bent play this to perfection and It sounded spot on!!!
I'm still here 2020!! Even though new album just dropped.
I'm just going to leave the best comment that was here:
"If she didn't know Paolo had hair, she is too young for you bro."
comment of the day XD
Iuri Rosa 🤣🤣🤣
That many likes on your comment shows that people still listen to this song 😂
@@daprimalfighterd8310 it's fucken amazing, no wonder they do
If you didn't know Paolo wasn't always the drummer. You're too young for me bro. Lol
I like to think of the character in the music video as the guy from the cover of Countdown to Extinction
That's EXACTLY what I was thinking!!! XD
How bout this, If thats the character from countdown, the white angel lady looks like the cover of And Justice for All.. They hold hands and unite in the end. This was uploaded in 2010. The same year Dave Mustaine and Metallica reunited for a concert with the rest of the Big 4. ;)
holy shit!
Mind=Blown.
Half Life 3=Confirmed?
0:00-5:50 my favorite part
Some years later, I gather new meaning from this song, and the video. They were right: this world looks down upon a man who can stand on his own two feet. Legends 🤙🏻
Their mouths salivate !!
Fantasizing my gruesome ending.
This world looks down upon !
A man who can stand on his own two feet.
Dang, I wish Trivium still sounded like this.
You didn't notice that they change sound every album? And every time they do it well :)
Marko Polo In an interview Matt Heafy said thathe doesn't want to sound same in every album and make different kinds of music so it won't be limited to only 1 genre and if people get bored of that 1 genre they will be able to listen to other stuff as well. I went to their concert last summer and it was really great, they are really good with the new songs and improved the old ones as well!
New album sounds promising!
It would be awesome to get a Shogun remastered with Alex on drums and Matt's new vocals.
i think ember to inferno needs that treatment i think this record is fine as is
No, it would not imo.
They should just keep writing together until they make a new album as epic as Shogun.
Nope. Shogun is like a time capsule from that time and is already perfect for its time. A re-recording would be forced.
No because Matt's vocals are way different now and would ruin alot of songs from Shogun imo.
This album is so good, all songs are incredible. So full of mythology references and I still remember when it came out, me and my friend used to sing along to all the songs. Good old times.
I honestly think this may be their best song
Chorus gets me everytime, definitely my favourite Trivium song
This is hands down their greatest song Lyrically. Should be in the Metal Hall of Fame and Played before the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance.
Amen
lmao
Along With Horizons , from the Horizons album by Parkway Drive. A lyrical masterpiece.
i love these and bfmv so much
This world looks down upon a man who can stand on his own two feet 👣
Damn it's 2021. This is the 1 metal song back in 2004 that literally got me into metal like this. And still is one of my favorite songs. This is so powerful
But it's from shogun..... Their 4th album!!!
Dont want to be that guy, but this song didn't exist in 2004.
Throes of perdition came out in 2008
That's my fault the song was a gunshot through the head of trepidation.
@@brandonburns2432 best song on ascendency imo that whole album is fucking goated
I love this song for it’s endless melancholy
Absolute fucking masterpiece. 🤘
AWESOME SONG!!! The riffs, breakdowns, cleans, screams amazing!
We need this in 4k 🤘🏻 👊🏻
This song is so good performed live. They light up the crowd for the "die" part, and everyone sings the choruses loudly
This is by FAR one of Trivium's best songs. MASTERPIECE!!!!
my favorite song from this band. i love trivium so much!!!!!!!
This song always pumps me up in the gym! Shogun is their best album.
Shogun was THE best album for me in high school and Trivium. Love every song on the album. So fucking brutal
This is the song that introduced me to Trivium back in '09. Good Times!
Deserves millions of views, this is one of their greatest songs imo, and they do it so well live to end the show (even though I've seen them opening with it lately)
Favorite song, video an ringtone (yes I'm that old) 14 Years later, still my favorite 😍
Am I only one that has this song by trivium as their favorite? Can't explain exactly why but this one ticks all the boxes
You're not the only one
That chorus just hits me in the feels everytime
This song reminds me so much of when I was a kid in 2010 I would listen to a lot of songs by trivium love this band !
This album is pure gold. If I remember correctly, this video was released in Roadrunner Records' channel. It seems they moved it and that's why the old comments are gone. I don't know what did they do tho.
Ok that explains
Roadrunner Records are terrible to their artists
Metal is modern day Classical music. But you wonder why I say this? Just listen to all those arpeggios, forte and so forth, scales and the like.
The only difference between metal and classical, specifically baroque and romantic, (apart from instruments) is the 0000010010000001 rhythm guitar parts. Literally everything else, from the extreme dissonance and emotional drive is exactly the same.
@@defectivetoaster7713 yep
Everytime I listen to Trivium, everytime I love them more, always growing on me
this is pure gold.. this video clip is incredible and don't get me started on this song ! AMAZING
Never gets old
staring the sun right in the eye gets me every time xD
One of Trivium's best songs ever imo
Alright shogun was the album that introduced me to trivium! I still remember they days when I was so into this song and still am. Kinda proud that my favorite band back then is my favorite band now
It takes a certain depth of hearing to like these guys.
One of the best bands!
wow this band truly is under rated, to have an amazing voice and still be able to growl like a boss...
Great stuff. He's got a great voice and the music is kickass.
And this, boys, is what you call a masterpiece!
I wish they would come back to this. :(
In my opinion, Shogun was the pinnacle. Their newer albums are alright, but they don't grip me the same way.
I agree that their old albums were works of art. I wouldn't say that their new stuff isn't good it's just different. It's a different Trivium then it was back then.
Hi! I'm from the future. Have you tried listening to the Sin and the Sentence?
Ascendency was the pinnacle let's not get it twisted.
I hope you gave the recent album a chance then, imo "Beyond Oblivion" is one of their very best songs
Scrath for me the entire album!
this raspy vocal style suited matt the best. gave the songs so much more power. this was trivium's greatest era. so glad i got to see them live during this period.
Ahh when this awesome band actually played awesomely and had superb music videos, man i miss those days please go back there again \m/
This song has the best breakdown ever
sick 2:35 - 3:07 ...dat double bass and screaming...
Eric W that part sounds so enormous
Trivium's pinnacle imo. Nothing tops this song!!!!! Everything is perfect in this song!! The perfect balance!!!!
Fantastic song. Great sound and great lyrics. And a catchy chorus!
This is DEFINATELY my favourite Trivium song from the best Trivium album :) This band should be held up on the Big 4's shoulder's for carrying their Thrasher legacies forward!!
3:29 genius part
This was the first song I heard by trivium and I was iffy about it, but I’m glad I stuck around, they are my favorite band
My favorite song off the record. Love that Bass sound!
This would be perfect for a movie. Like a Forbidden Kingdom type of movie and this song plays as the final battle ensues, one army fighting against another and the hero finally uses his full power against the main antagonist
Clearly they all just need to grow out their hair again and maybe we'll have another album like this.
David Wilcox Yes, I am aware. But the headbangs are worth it.
+David Wilcox these people have no idea all the work long hair is but it's soooo worth it lol
+ZACK HWC and they need Travis Smith back.
+Tefyt Paw because Guitars are not played with your hands but with your hair. EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT.
I say bring Travis Smith back.
Trivium its so underated it is starting to be unreal matt is the best songwriter/composer i ever seen he is a genius
Never gets boring hear this, fantastic Trivium
"BLIND FOLDED AND GAGGED STOOD WAITING WITH THE WHOLE WORLD---MY FIRING SQUAD!"
\m/YEAH! \m/ I love this song!
oh man. this was when trivium were at their best. good times.
Ascendancy, The crusade and Shogun are true masterpieces! They are among the best metal albums in metal and rock history! Perfection!
November cannot come quick enough.....NEVER miss a Trivium show within 200 miles of home.
My mom introduced me to a few metal and rock bands when I was a kid. My first fav band was Scorpions (and they still are). After my main Scorpions phase I started looking for other good music, and I got interested in Nirvana and Rammstein. Than my friend introduced BvB to me and I got a metalcore phase. I fell for Bring Me The Horizon, especially for their old albums (pre-Sempiternal and 3-4 songs from Sempiternal itself). Thanks to their deathcore vibe I realised, that I'm looking for something harder and heavier. Like a year ago I got to Metallica - that's a long story, I have known them since 2014, but I hadn't been interested in them that time (I was in the middle of Scorpions phase). Starting from Metallica, I entered the metal word - I know now whole history of metal, most important bands and genres, and I have plenty of band shirts in my wardrobe. I've becomen a close minded metalhead for a few months - well, I wasn't satanist or an enemy od everything but metal, but still, my mind was: "the new genres are good for people that like it, but I'm a true metalhead and I listen only to real metal like Thrash Metal Big Four". I almost forgot about my beloved Bring Me The Horizon (especially after "Amo", seriously, what is that), even though they were my 2nd fav band, right behind Scorpions. I found myself in listening to Megadeth and Metallica.
And after around half of the year I found Trivium - Shogun. The breakdown was so fucking awesome, so great, memorable and everything, that I felt an instant love for this band. Now I'm finally free and I appreciate all genres - this is no worse than Tornado Of Souls or Ride The Lightning, and it's metalcore! Thrashy and melodeathy, but metalcore!
I don't know, how are you doing this, guys, but I love you!
I LOVE EVERY TRIVIUM SONG BY HEART THATS HOW YOU KNOW A BAND IS GODLY!!!!! FUCK YEAH TRIVIUM!!! \m/
It actually took me quite some time to start enjoying Demon.
I still dislike some of the bridge songs that are on Ember to inferno, but i guess i can sign that one on ya.
Insane to think this stuff is over 4 years old. Nevertheless, it has eternal quality.
CYellowan
I agree, it was hard before i fully enjoyed demon, now I'm okay
CYellowan really? I PERSONALLY thought demon was awesome, o well to each his own
Galen Carr It is good, but it is just too monotone for Trivium's style. Does not mean it is bad, it just took me forever to get in to it; just like with counter strike. The concept was far too odd when 1.6 came out, but now, i enjoy it, and i get it quite well, for all the good reasons.
That was a strange analogy... Well; explained it well for gamers at least.
tbh it reminded me of my own bands style lol
2:35 STILL the holds up after all these years!!🤠😍😍😍😍❤❤❤❤❤🤘
trivium's among my favorite bands to listen to when i want metal. mainly because i can hear the words in the song, and all the instruments are very clear to hear. heavy bass, crisp guitars, and pounding drums with perfectly timed cymbal crashes-creating a heavy sound that's not easily forgettable. trendy? no. likeable? yes.
