David Alden’s production for the Bavarian State Opera, designed by Paul Steinberg and Buki Schiff, took up the gauntlet thrown down by Handel with the razzle-dazzle of his London première and succeeded magnificently in inventing a similarly explosive Rinaldo. A superb cast features countertenors David Daniels and David Walker, and soprano Noëmi Nadelmann. Harry Bicket leads from the harpsichord and conjures his own miracles from the pit.

The BEST version i have ever heard brings tears to my eyes. Bravo Ms York...Bravo well done.🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Yes, this is the definitely the best version
No doubt. Thank you, Ms. York.
I confirm this.... as a GERMAN (we are always emotionless as everyone knows.. Another Steorotype: We all do listen to classical Music ;) *sacasm*).
Does any COMPLETE RECORD of this SPECIFIC Opera exist to buy it? I would buy it to support the Artists and the Opera itself where it was recorded.
I specialy like the Spinett in the Background (seldom used nowdays..). :)
Beautiful indeed!

Spent the last 60 years of my life yearning for the freedom that has yet to come.
This is my favourite version. Personally I prefer clean flowing vocals above the seemingly inevitable vibrato.
So do I!
Just listen to nearly any period performance of this and you'll find there's little to no vibrato. I have no idea why people tolerate baroque music being played on modern instruments using modern playing techniques.
Me too!
I wish there was a high quality studio version of this because Deborah York's version is honestly my favourite of all time. She encapsulates the pain so well and to do it all while having to stay static in that position yet to take us on such an emotional journey...her decision to sometimes use vibrato, sometimes to have those clean over arching notes. Ugh. Brava
Perfectly done. The best.
Agree... more!😾
I'm searching for this version on Spotify but I can't find it, only here
This is the best performance on line for sure. The voice, the restraint, and sense of private feeling and entrapment contrasted with the deluded gaze of her captor is chilling.
Almirena has been collected, framed and placed on a wall like a painting to be wrongfully admired.
A frightening prospect.
Stunning production concept and nobody sings this aria better than Debbie York.
This video should have views in the millions, but I guess the aesthetic appearance is more important to most people.
Deborah York is a Angel... i Love your work...
Perfect tone and truly sublime! Handel would be proud. Thank you for sharing!
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard
Same. I don’t really listen or watch opera but I come back to this time and time again.
Such a strong voice... that confident commitment in those deeper nuanced vibratos... she has plenty in the tank... this is the only version I am interested in coming back to
i thought i'd heard some great versions of this but this is beyond all, the astounding deborah york!
I wish that I can get someone to mentor me to sing like her. Because, oh God, I have a beautiful voice I just don't know what steps to take . But one day I'll be out in the light. Guide me oh Lord🙏
omg....beautiful
Well if she sings like that, I wouldn't let her go either.
What a gorgeous voice...💙💙💙💙
This is sheer beauty.
I am so amazed by the ornamentation 3:04 and the appoggiatura at 3:07. 3:24 is foreshadowing of her beautiful passing tone flourish at 3:31. I love the roundness of her high notes. It's well demonstrated at 2:00 to 2:05. I could play the above passages over and over. Well done, Deborah York.
Deborah York is NOT the singer here---it is Kathleen Battle's voice singing!
@@jayonnaj18 Although Ms. Battle was known for her unique and pure voice, it is obvious the ornamentation of the soundtrack matches the video. Every soloist's ornamentation, coloratura, and cadenza is unique. This is obviously Deborah Yorks performance with David Daniels. You can also visually identify her by the wrinkles in Ms. York's forehead too. You can't dub over (at least it would be extremely difficult) a live performance with a fake soundtrack. I dont' think Kathleen Battle would sit down and try to match Ms. York's video. That would be far beneath her. And I doubt Ms. York would do a live performance (this video) and try to lip sync to Kathleen Battle.
I've thought the exact same things! Bravo for your detailed and through inspection of her interpretation! One of the best rendition of this aria, breathtaking! Thanks to you sir and thanks Ms. York for this eternal performance! ❤❤❤❤
I have no idea what are you talking about, but I like the singing, right.
Excellent… could say it’s the best performance I’ve ever heard of this wonderful piece…
Brava!!! Impecable and unique, in the middle of the holiday season, really makes you feel Haendel and God together among us mortals!!
Best version I have ever heard, and believe me I have heard so many versions of this masterpiece.
Wonderful ms. York!!!
Probably, my favourite interpretation.
Also, a word to the cenography team - This set fits beautifuly in the story.
Mesmerizing she is to eyes, ears and soul.
Sublissime. Merci Mme York.
One of the best version. The emotion is felt ❤
good to be alive - beautiful
fantastic! wondefull voice!
Brava!
Just beautiful
Lascia ch'io pianga
mia cruda sorte,
e che sospiri
la libertà;
Il duolo infranga
queste ritorte
de' miei martiri
sol per pietà.
Deja que llore
mi cruel suerte,
y que suspire
por la libertad;
Que el dolor quiebre
estas cadenas
de mis martirios
sólo por piedad.
Grazie Erick
Musical perfection❤ Thank you

¡Bellísima, extraordinaria Deborah York!
traumhaft schön
Absolutely phenomenal
Bellísimo
In my opinion, exceptional.
Esta bela canção tem muitas interpretações. Esta está entre as melhores. A cenografia, sem dúvida, a valoriza. Parabéns!
Molto brava Deborah York
Remarkable and soul wrenchingly arresting.
this can be bought on DVD , this whole version of the opera RINALDO - It's great!
Beautiful!
Absolutamente lindo, divino!

it hurts my eyes!
She takes up this so high that it shrills.
Absolutely BEST
Perfeito! Que bom poder ver e rever e rever e rever!
Why isn’t she more famous?
I can sing 90% like that. Get most the notes.but I'm a 56male maybe I'll do theter
I love this song and the rendition by Deborah York is very good. Personally I like the smoother tones of Patricia Janeckova. The amazing thing is that Patricia was only 12 when she recorded her version.
This is so beautiful.. I love it. 😍
Beautiful and beautoful interpretation.
cudownie
Amazing!
Versione indimenticabile❤️
Who is cuttin onions?
Me emocionei
Must be hard to stand like that. Beautifully song!
Just....incredible
I have no idea what this is about, don’t really need to, I just let it waft over me like a dream
Impresionante!!

Is this the closest thing to the fabled "white voice"?
So sweetly beautiful

Could someone explain why she is trapped in that frame?
Is there a published CD of this perfect renditio?
you can buy the dvd of it complete - it's great! - martin.
hi ann - you can get a complete DVD of the opera 'rinaldo' - this version - with deborah york, david daniels and david walker produced by 'arthaus musik' - it's great! - martin.

This is so Wong Kar Way
Why is she stuck like that?
That's what I want to know, it's cool either way
It’s a visual metaphor of her being imprisoned

Yeah the straight tone gets tiresome real fast. The joke is singers vibrated in 1711. This annoying affectation still hovers over early opera music. Meh.
