One of the best things in our kitchen, we put our new toaster in the garage to save room, the Breville does everything so well we were simply amazed.
I have had a Breville for several years now. It does perform very well and we use it almost every day, but you should expect the convection fan will die long before the rest of the oven does. Fortunately, you can turn the convection fan off and use the oven normally when that inevitably happens. But if you look into it, you find out that the fan is a well known defect, very common with these ovens. On ours, the buttons on the oven are now starting to go bad, so despite the very high price, it is not long for this world. I just bought a top end Breville Toaster Oven you recommended and I’m astounded that you didn’t mention that the metal an inch away from the handle gets hot enough to give second degree burns. When you grab the handle, your fingers are less than a quarter inch away from that surface. I checked the temperature of that area and it exceeded 140 degrees in many spots which is hot enough for second degree burns.. Despite it working perfectly, we will return it.
Got my Brevelle Smart Oven Air Fryer at Canadian Tire on sale for $375 Canadian dollars. It normally retails in Canada for $490. First thing I got it to do was make french fries and chicken drumsticks. This oven is unbelievably flexible. This ovens air frying feature is so good that it even rivaled the better dedicated air fryers like those made by Philips....... 6 months later, my door mysteriously shattered after gently closing the door. I found out later, this oven was being recalled by Brevelle for door replacement.
I also own the Breville. I like it so much I’m tempted to buy another as back-up in case they decide to “improve” the model. It’s perfect as is. One thing they didn’t mention...it has a pop-out space that allows a 12” pizza or large round dinner plate to fit inside. Well worth the money!
I was trying to replace using my oven for the summer and this information, helped me to make a decision about my choice of a toaster oven. Thank you for your help.
Btw, I do have the previous model of this breville toaster oven. It is everything they say it is. Hands down the best toaster oven I have ever owned and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. One thing to remember though.... as good as this is, it is not a traditional oven and do not use it as such. You will wear it out. Its fine for the occasion small roast chicken or frozen french frys, tator tots, etc. But do not use this to cook things you would/should in a traditional oven on a regular basis. It will fail on you as mine did. My wife use to cook things that had long cook times (in my opinion, long cook times for a toaster oven constitutes anything at or around 20 minutes) almost daily. I think the high temps and long cook times fried the circuit board cuz the oven setting doesn't work anymore. Toaster setting still works great but the roast/bake setting is inoperable.
I have a 5 year old Breville oven and when it dies I'm buying another one. It's awesome, I've even baked Bundt cakes in it. I haven't even used my regular oven in months!
"And it is really easy to clean!" *looks at the toaster oven in the kitchen* Yeah, I don't think my roommate got that note. I wouldn't be surprised if that thing has developed a new life form.
I bought this brand oven (don't know if it is the same model) around the time this video was made. I love it. I do many different things with it, but most often I'm toasting bread slices. I recently did a week stint house sitting where there was a Wolf toaster oven. I could not believe how badly it did the simple task of toasting bread. On dark setting, one side was slightly over toasted while the under side was still white.. And it took over 10 minutes to produce that result. I am so glad I bought that Breville.
I was given a small basic toaster oven by my neighbor when she moved. It works well but uses more electricity than I expected and the reason I never upgraded to a larger one. These ovens are very good when you need concentrated dry heat.
@@kyleanderson5787 I did! It's pretty great. it is a purchase worth the money I paid which is saying something, it is on the upper end of the toaster pricing scale.
Kal El Yes! (I used to cringe every time I’d hear the microwave oven ‘beeps’ knowing someone was actually preparing food in it.) A toaster oven can do almost everything the microwave can. Without the hazards.
We love our Breville for all the reasons stated in the vid, but the start/stop button needs several pushes to activate the machine (sometimes 20 or 30). We've had this part replaced under warranty and three more times on our own (it's not that expensive to replace), but every replacement has the same issue. BUT, we still love the toaster oven and would recommend it to anyone in the market.
I had a toaster oven many years ago and even cooked turkey dressing in it and it was fully cooked and delicious too. Since retiring I have not purchased another one as I cook in my GE oven, my Oyster counter top roaster oven, and my Instant Pot pressure cooker. I roast my turkey in the roaster, and make my dressing in the oven, and use the Instant Pot to make the potatoes in.
Having written "Pop It In The Toaster Oven," I appreciate you clear and well presented analysis of toaster ovens. I do not recommend brands but attached your video to my channel, Palate and Palette!
I've used one of these Breville ovens for several years now and rarely use my full sized oven. As a single adult household it meets all my day-to-day needs. My only complaint is the convection fan no longer functions properly.
Since I watched this the first time, I have read a lot of reviews on this oven. Lots of people are very unhappy that the Breville oven has broken down and had to trash it after a year or so. Now, I don't know what to buy since my old toaster oven that I had for 15 yrs finally died. It was a Hamiliton Beach with concpvection that cooked beautifully. But, that model is no longer made. Since this review is only a couple years old I would have purchased this oven. But, the recpviews by actual buyers aren't so good.
In case anyone is wondering how long a Breville toaster oven lasts, I've had mine for around 18 or 19 years and it's still going strong. It's a much simpler design then this model, but it works very well. If it ever quits, I'll buy another one from them.
That goes for all of breville's/sage's (hate that it they ahve different names around the world) appliances, they are hella expensive compared to a lot of competitors, but for good reasons, they are well designed and designed to last
Excellent review. I have the top rated Breville and I agree 100% with the review. It is an excellent toaster oven. However, I am on my second unit in 8 years. After 4 years, the control board failed on the first one. On my current one, the start button requires two to three pushes to start. When this one fails, I doubt I'll get another Breville, not at $280.
I know this is about a year old, but I did see your recent (Aug 2020) ATK online review of “air-fryer” toaster ovens and the Breville Smart Over Air was your winner. However that oven has gotten some pretty negative reviews on their web site (and Williams-Sonoma) for leaking grease, smoke and condensation happing around the controls, some the buttons and fails sticking, and the oven’s fuse failing. I hope you can go back and review these toaster ovens with the air-fryer function (the Breville, Cuisinart, Ninja Foodie, etc.) and really put them through their paces. Being they range from $300-$400 that is a huge investment. BTW: I have a15 year old Aroma Toaster oven that still performs as well as when I first used it, but I’m doing research for when it finally quits. Thanks ATK!!!!
I needed an oven for my summer cabin and bought the Breville Smart Oven. It is the most wonderful small appliance I have ever had. I don't use it for toast because Ihave a toaster, but the oven with the convection feature is better than my oven at home.
i just spent my afternoon reading the reviews of brevelle toaster ovens, and while they are nice to start, many find they are not reliable and after a few years break down with either costly repairs or parts not available. Many very positive reviews, however, they are with respect to the first few years of operation.
I like the breville air smart oven. I read online where reviews state that the winning model breaks often, due to an element overheating. The upgrade to the breville air oven fixes that problem, I think; it keeps a fan blowing to circulate the air after the oven is done cooking, which dissipates the heat. The upgraded breville fan can also move more air, with a ‘super convection’ feauture, so the fan is probably built stronger/more durable, or at least I hope so. I bought mine at Bed Bath Beyond when it was on discount, and I used their 20% off coupon, so my smart oven cost the same as the winning model.
I've owned the "winner" oven for about 5 years. If this is as good as it gets, then other ovens are absolute trash. The Breville's dial knobs work intermittently. Sometimes while turning it up, it actually goes down, or jumps 10 clicks, or down 15 clicks, or shuts everything off. It's as random as a magic 8-ball. Every single knob has this strange problem. Even the push-buttons do weird things. Also, it cooks a little unevenly. I cook bacon trays in the oven a lot, usually the bacon is cooked in the back, and raw in the front. I can work around this, but something worth mentioning.
I haven’t used a full sized oven in over 15 years, love my Cuisinart toaster oven. But they have changed them since I bought mine and I will have to check this out
I own one of these Breville ovens but the setting that works really well which wasn`t covered is the bagel setting that toasts only the top cut part of the bagel, perfect every time.Well worth the $$ btw also has convection.
I have owned 2 of the large Breville ovens. Both of them had problems with the top control which controls the temperature of the oven. I sent the 1st one back to Breville and they sent me a new oven free of charge. The second one then had the same problem about 1 year later. I loved the way it cooked when it worked. I bought a Cuisinart and hated it. It is not consistent, and forget about toast. Bottom line, I'll probably buy another Breville in the future.
SO sorry ... but y'all need to go BACK and do some re-testing. I just checked out your recommendations and it looks like the Breville, Cuisinart, AND the Caphalon ALL have TERRIBLE reviews on Amazon! All these brands started out really well but after the warranty times they almost completely started failing. BUT ... The De’Longhi Livenza Digital True Convection Oven DID have some really GOOD reviews so I will probably be purchasing THAT one in the near future. My Oster has been a REAL disappointment but I'm trying to get a bit more use out of it. Thanks for all your reviews ... I really do enjoy them and they are really helpful.
I've had my Breville for ten years, and it's the only oven I use. It's big enough cook full size pies and pizzas, and do it well, but small enough to heat up super fast. The convection fan still works. The only thing that's gone wrong is that the spring that pulls up the door broke. Supposedly, it's not hard to fix, but I haven't bothered since it works fine without it. Toast is good, but still not quite as good as a dedicated toaster. I don't think any toaster oven is.
I have an old manual GE that takes longer to cook thicker meats but does a good job with fish fillets etc. About 15 yrs old and use often so got my monies worth. Use more than my regular oven.
I bought a Black and Decker Crisp and Fry from Costco recently……it’s back at the store! Breville here I come. More than I wanted to spend, but in this case it will be worth it I’m sure.

Beautifully done! I love how you didn't just tell us all the things you did but showed it too, so we'd better understand.
I love your reviews, thank you for such thorough research! I've been buying products that you've recommended for 8 years now, including this oven.
I have a 5 year old Breville oven and when it dies I'm buying another one. It's awesome, I've even baked Bundt cakes in it. I haven't even used my regular oven in months!
"And it is really easy to clean!" *looks at the toaster oven in the kitchen*
Yeah, I don't think my roommate got that note.
Love my Breville, I've had it for over a year & have cooked everything, but, whole chicken, it cooks frozen pizza exceptionally well...
I was given a small basic toaster oven by my neighbor when she moved. It works well but uses more electricity than I expected and the reason I never upgraded to a larger one. These ovens are very good when you need concentrated dry heat.
Thank you, ATK! You helped us pick out a toaster oven that will be a welcome addition to our kitchen.
I think we need a bonus version of this where you look at Toaster ovens that also do air frying. And compare it to the Phillips air fryer
@@gregorygrimm5540 The unit that this lady tested does not air fry. This is the unit just below the BSOA.
have that same Breville for about 3 years. pretty much my favorite toaster oven ever since i watched a review on it from ATK years back.
Thank you for this review. We’ve given up on Consumer Reports years ago due to their lack of reliability.
Of course I just bought a toaster oven 2 weeks before this comes out. Lol
@Avshalom Chotawm I selected another model made by brevel, I don't feel bad about my choice.
detaer Did you get their air fryer version? That’s the best one I’ve had.
I managed to wait long enough to see this before buying... instead of a few days after like their cookware set episode...
@@kyleanderson5787 I did! It's pretty great. it is a purchase worth the money I paid which is saying something, it is on the upper end of the toaster pricing scale.
I just got the Smart Oven Air by Breville. I love it!
Very helpful and no nonsense. Thank you.
Love this host. Her presentation is clear and based on evidence. Top-notch
toaster oven replaced my microwave decades ago, love these things so much.
ATK has once again provided the best review and has given me the information I needed. Thank you.
I’m in my late 50’s and never had a toaster oven until a few months ago. A shame. Incredibly useful.
I bought a large wolf toaster oven last year and I'm loving it! I even roasted my 6 lb rib roast in it for Christmas this year!!
When this one fails, I doubt I'll get another Breville, not at $280.
was looking for a toaster oven heavy hitter to up my meal prep game. ATK has never let me down before!
I love these strait forward review style videos. I find them the most useful and valuable.
This was a scientific review, best ever for any product i have ever watched
I love these videos! I come here everytime i want to buy something. Thank you😊❤️
Heck yea! My favorite kitchen appliance. Guess I'm upgrading come Black Friday.
I have the Kitchen Aid. Best purchase I've made for cooking. I use it everyday.
I have owned a Waring for 10 years and had zero problems.
Due to size restrictions I got the calphalon toaster oven and I love it
Love your reviews!!! First place I go when looking for new kitchen gear. I especially like this reviewer!! Thanks!!
i just spent my afternoon reading the reviews of brevelle toaster ovens, and while they are nice to start, many find they are not reliable and after a few years break down with either costly repairs or parts not available. Many very positive reviews, however, they are with respect to the first few years of operation.
make a video on best toaster oven, air fryer, rotisserie, dehydrator combo ovens please
I have purchased 5 of the breville ovens
. I own 3 myself. They are incredible.
I have my breville toaster for several months and I love it !! Breville is the best
It’s not even on the list, but I have the Cuisinart air fryer toaster oven and I love it. It makes baked sweet potato fries in 10 minutes.
Just in time. I've been wanting to get one. Thank you.
I wish they tested the June oven. More expensive ($499), but a true smart oven that performs excellent! I can preheat from my phone.
Love my toaster oven/air fryer. Saves energy and is quicker than my range.
That's good to know
I've been wanting to get a toaster oven, but didn't know which one to buy. Now I know.....Beeville it is! Thank you for the review! G.
Thanks, I really enjoy these reviews. They are helpful.
I have the Breville Smart Oven Air. Best kitchen investment next to my Vitamix.
That's one I'm looking at.
Setting: Dark
Toaster Oven: Charcoal
Nothing beats a Breville toaster oven. I stopped using my regular oven all together after getting one.
Best review channel on UA-cam
I have the Breville. It is worth EVERY penny. You will not regret buying one.
I have a Breville. I love it. The only time I use the wall oven is when I am baking an item on a large pan that requires that space.
OMG
you guys are so thorough on everything
we love you
Lisa, you’ve done it again, great review, ticked all the boxes thank you.
I use my toaster oven way more than the regular oven. I've never used it for toast though.
I have the big breville oven and love it. We use it more than our big oven.
