...yes, we used FF6 footage at the start of this video by mistake... That's a lesson in labelling your footage correctly.
Sorry! We are really talking about the *real* FF3.
For those unfamiliar, they skipped FF2 and 3 in the West the first time around.
American FF2 is really FF4 and American FF3 is really FF6. Thankfully, only a problem in the NES/SNES releases!

All good, it's not anything spoilery either way. The Garlean army with its magitek armors have been designed as FF6 references ever since 1.0 so really none of that clip of FF6 magitek in a fight spoils anything for new FF14 players. They'll run into enemies like that by the time they're like level 35 or so.

Ironically many of us are in that same seat with Michael partially because of him specifically. Those blow-up 'I'm done' clips with his red face in the thumbnails, lambasting Blizzard after Preach's interview with Ion Hazzikostas, were the final straw for us as WoW players. We were all just so fed up with that game's mismanagement and we wanted a new home game with better leadership, and Matt was right there going "so have you heard about the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV which has a free trial up to level 60 including the widely beloved expansion Heavensward?" And you know what, that boy was right to preach that from the mountaintops.

he is just a content creators that jumped on the content train after the content creator used all drama and content in other games like wow. these content creators can be full of sheet. actin like they care about the game when in reallit just content farming popular issues they fin on reddit.
imagine instead of being innovative for FF16... they ognna make another single player game... instead of innovating they are going into the past. the future is in multiplayer action combat game with good fun gamestyle like Arena or Capture the flag or King of the hilll... also innovation ability to tame open world monsters as your mount or open world raid bosses players could fight over for... check ou the Kings Avatar animation to learn how to actually make complete mmorpg moba game
the game has some really good PvE elements, music, zones bosses, story.. but its not a complete game
lack of social features like chat bubbles, smaller nameplates aka small text font size option (last time I checked there was only normal and big option=) and no vocie chat. you have an outdated combat and subscription model with convoluted login/register/buy game systems. u lack social and PvP updates. u lack innovation. u don't even wanna complete game. u don't combine PvE elements with PvP. like open world raid bosses where players and guilds would fight to contest them. they could drop epic mounts. or exp/gear tokens that could be 1 alternative to story progression. or the ability to tame open world monsters as your mount. but most good mounts are locked behind a paywall or insane grind. u don't have Frontline sound or graphic notification. the lack of PvP mounts/events/quests. u only care about PvE and story players.u focus on shemale model instead of updating your game lol. also no blue mage in PVP (most good MMORPG animations main character is classless class. from Kirito to the main character in the Kings avatar animation. u don't have a single good 4v4 map like Heavens Arena from the King's avatar. FFXIV community could learn a lot from the Kings Avatar animation from Tencent. your combat too. 20 years behind. no skillshots or dodges, not even hybrid action combat like gw2, let alone true action combat like smite or Vindictus...2.5s global cooldown time with tab target combat in 2021... and they thought they are gonna solve the issues of combat by just adding crazy animations...but that cluttered the game and now they cannot even lower global cd time because of that. lack of social interaction. because u only have chat box that gets spammed whole day and emotes. emotes are nice but feel like u also need chat bubbles or voice chat. games 15 years ago successfully implemented chat bubbles. also new players cannot their content on ffxiv reddit, u have blocked comments on your FFXIV promotion videos so people cannot discuss it.... you take people that care for the game and complain as "toxic"...
the game lack social and PVP updates? doesn't have chat bubbles (you only look at chat box whole day which sux), smaller nameplates aka text font size option, voice chat, good 4v4 Arena style map like Heavens Arena from the King's Avatar animation, no frontline popout sound notification, outdated combat and subscription model, convoluted login/register system (cant even use afna at launcher reset password confirm email box), no blue mage in PVP, lack of innovations such combining already good PvE elements with PVP such as open-world raid bosses where players and guild fight to contest said bosses? compete for the boss. they could drop epic mounts o exp/gear tokens which could be a great alternative to story leveling. new players cannot share their content on ffxiv reddit...
doesn't change the fac the game has 500 ms animation lock + 2.5s global cd tab targeting combat. 20 years behind. they thought they will fix the combat by adding crazy animations, but that also just cluttered the game. mybe they could lower global cd to 2 second but anything lower hard because crazy animations. but the core problem si still there. tab targeting combat. not even hybrid action combat with skillshots and dodges. elt alone true action combat like Smite, Vindictus r the Kings Avatar animation. WoW TBC, for example, ahs bunch of instant casts too but only 1 second global cd. also wow tbc has chat bubbles and voice chat... ffxiv only has emotes and chat box. and it sux watching into chat bo whole day that get spammed. it is not socially interactive. or actually good 4v4 map like heavens Arena from the Kings Avatar or open-world raid bosses where players and guild could fight to contest them....or ability to tame open world monsters as your mount....innovate....more PVP events/rewards/mounts, combine PvE and PVP elements... and ffxiv community often mix competitive spirit and rivallry with toxicity

One thing I love about FF14 is that the frequent references to other FF games are never outright copy-paste. Yes they lift various places, themes, macguffins, and even some story beats, but they don't simply plunk those into FF14. Instead, they make alterations as needed to fit things into the coherent FF14 world lore and then build a new story incorporating all these pieces. They indulge our nostalgia without just repeating the past.
It's like listening to covers from someone like Insaneintherain, where he uses the melody, themes, and leitmotifs of the original to build his own new song around pieces of the old. The result is two great things that are related instead of just one great thing and a copy of it. FF14 does the same thing with its predecessors, giving us another great game that stands alongside prior FFs instead of merely a nostalgia factory.

There is also the whole memory motif in ShB, which is a big plot point of FF8 and also plays a part in the Eden raids. Emet-selch carries the weight of memory, and asks you to remember in his stead. Elidibus cannot remember, and when we defeat him, he gets his memories back, after seeing the crystals filled with Ascian memories. Also the memory of the final days, and how nobody can remember what they lost.
In the raid tier - Gaia cannot remember who she is, and the entire last fight has a segment where the boss is literally destroying her memories.

    • @atraxos
      @atraxos 3 роки тому +8

They had Cuchulainn as a voidsent in the Void Ark, then introduced the FFXII Cuchulainn as an entirely unrelated Lucavi in Save the Queen, with nothing more than a note in the latter's Triad card description saying "it has the same name as a notable voidsent, but that's believed to just be a coincidence." Yeah, it'd be fine.

I don't think it can be stressed enough how FF3 had this early high concept stuff about dark not necessarily being evil, with its Warriors of Darkness, and how that cascaded into stuff of that nature today.

    • @ohnosmoarlulcatz

It makes me so happy that Shadowbringers brought this up. The Warriors of Darkness were a cool concept but they were even less actually established than the Onion Knights even in the 3D remake where the WoL's had actual (one note) personalities. Chalk it up to it still being an NES game maybe, but hey now we have real Warriors of Darkness with stories and personalities and we kinda sorta become one as well.

FF2 one of the greatest broken games of all time. you could literally cheese the experimental skilling system to create literal gods. I turned Maria into the greatest bare knuckle (no weapon) monk ever who could attack like 8-10 times for max damage (each hit) before hitting the first official boss fight in the game. Just with some patience and time.
