When my family went to Myrtle Beach, we always stayed in nearby Garden City. I liked it because it was far less touristy.

So for the record yes, I’ve lived here 13 years with my husband and family. It may look boring to everyone else but that’s because it’s a residential place with a great school and we LIVE HERE. We just drive to all the other places for things we need.
I was happy to see you painted the area as boring, which was what I was hoping for so people stay away and quit adding to this hellacious tourist traffic every summer.
Like most beach towns, they are one after another when you just blink… We don’t need EVERY amenity within arms reach, thankfully.
As for Surfside Beach just north of us it is riddled with nonstop military police state or you better not sneeze out of order. Wouldn’t live there if you paid me. Every nosy busybody retiree up your butt forget it.
Garden City has a free pier that is stunning with bands playing & cute little shops in the town. So many great restaurants also. Constant rivalry, but let me tell you we are FREE where we live.
Garden City is peaceful and neighbors love each other and we don’t need the police watching our every move….
Summer tourism traffic is hell area wide/ all beach cities so stay away and go home. We like our quiet, sleepy towns! 😊

I used to spend a lot of time along the Grand Strand, and your video brought back many memories. Thanks for sharing.
Also, I find your livability scores objective and helpful. It's very useful information!

Brilliant...you nailed it! OMG that spectacular drone part....beautifully done! So lived in Charleston SC 25+ years and it took me a long time to understand this area that you figured out in a few hours. The usual fast food eateries on the Coastal Highway??? Hey I only found one area ( my only one anywhere) where you could see a Mickey Ds out your windshield while seeing another in the rear view mirror. It was actually a very peaceful and inexpensive place to go in the dead of winter. Thank goodness that is when you were there and avoided major gridlock. Spot on overall analysis.

You should check out Brunswick County, another fast growing county bordering north of Horry County and the Wilmington NC area in your future videos.

I like Garden City. I work at the Walmart, but I live in Pauleys. It still beats NY by a mile.

My girlfriend was born and raised in Garden City, but to add to the confusion it can alternatively be called Murrells Inlet. Yes, Murrells Inlet resides in both Georgetown and Horry counties. Her mother’s family owned what is now the Inlet Square Mall and also the surrounding area. Her father built their house from the debris of hurricane Hazel. He also did work dredging what is now the intracoastal waterway and worked on the creation of the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel . Let’s also not forget Burgess along SC707 on the other side of Bypass 17. BTW, locals often refer to themselves as creek rats

I love these videos, it feels like I’m home! I used to make this drive every day, from Murrells Inlet to Myrtle Beach… Garden City is nicer since it’s less touristy, but it still gets stupid busy in the summers. People hog the backroads with their golf carts, and then get mad when you pass them 🤦🏼‍♀️ Are you gonna do a video of Socastee? That’s where I was raised! My parents still live there 😊 It’s interesting to hear an outside opinion on the area, since my opinion is very jaded 😅

Didn’t film Socastee when I was there unfortunately. Glad you enjoy the videos that I made from the area though!

I live close to the Myrtle Beach area, Garden City is the best little beach on the east coast. Never feels crowded, great fishing pier, good food. You can let your kids go to the arcade or run upstairs to a great ice cream parlor that has a perfect view of the beach. Many people prefer to live a slow modest lifestyle and can live within their income in perfect bliss. You can actually run to the store and not wait on a red light. Drug use has increased, weed is legal in this area. Come evening folks hang out on their front porches sipping on sweet tea and smokin a little weed. Kids ride their bikes and boards in the streets until dark. It's a little town filled with regular people who are just fine wearing a Walmart tee shirt and no brand sneakers. Stop in one weekend.....

Woah what? Lived here 13 years -weed is not legal in this area. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t get smoked all across America… especially from tourists! These are beach towns with beach tourism but nine months out of the year, total heaven. and then three months of hell in summer and worse traffic than the summer before. GO HOME.

Cannibal Homeless people are all over the place.

    • @stephani1972
      @stephani1972 4 місяці тому

What does that even mean? I’ve lived here 13 years and never seen one homeless person so don’t know where you’re getting that. Unless you’re purposely trying to keep people away from here in which case, I’ll go ahead and agree with you because it’s too packed!
