    Still going strong! This computer lives in the garage at ambient temperatures ranging from 32F to 115F throughout the years. I did a case transplant about 4 years ago and did a re-seat/re-paste of the CPU but other than a few minor upgrades (SSD and Video Card) it's been a trooper (pun intended). No maintenance and no failures, can't ask for anything better. Only downside is its a bit loud but I use a 47" sony bravia (also from 2009 or so, replaced the Tcon board in 2014) about 10 ft away. Today's LTT upload of 10 years of gaming PCs inspired this post.

      @@camtech1190 I had it running at 4ghz for awhile but still on stock factory cooler. Kept telling myself I’ll get a better one when it fails or bearings make noise but it just keeps going. Think I’m going to do something about that now there’s a 3060ti founders in it.

    this mobo is definitely the best investment ive ever made, its still going strong even after having been puth through the dishwasher to clean it after being in two oil cooled pc setups, now in a fully watercooled setup. runs 24/7 no prob and can handle whatever you throw at it, thanks for suggesting it linus

    I have this asus sabertooth x58 motherboard with intel i7 980X (6 core 12 thread at 3.33GHz), asus strix 1080 ti, and 6 8gb ddr3 ram sticks, 48gb ram total. Yes, it runs the 48gb ram with no problems and has been doing so for over 5 years now, 24GB max ram is B.S. This computer is a beast, runs cool with corsair h1100i v2 liquid cooler and I won't be upgrading to a new ddr4 mother board for some time. You'd have to pry this computer off of my cold dead body.

    Still using mine, got it at launch. Just ordered a Xeon processor for it, put a RTX 2060 in it last week. Plays Rise of the tomb raider and Deliverance: Kingdom Come well. Was quite surprised about the last.
    Only criticism of this board is the northbridge gets what I consider too hot and there isn't much room for a fan near the heatsink if you have a bit CPU cooler. Otherwise it's great.

    Three-way SLI basically. The rampage will allow you to overcloak more your processor but except those 2 things it's the same. If you are running 2 video cards or less and don't look to overcloak your processor, get this one its a great mobo.

    @Cruxx11111111 I think I've found out... P6X8D-E, which is slightly more expensive, supports Tri-SLI (or tri-ATI) while sabertooth only supports dual SLI. So less PCI-E slots. Also 8-phase power for the sabertooth while 16+2 for the sabertooth ( but with better components).

    @hosrom There are Ceramic bonded thermal compounds for better heat dissipation, but I think that this one is a porous material for more surface area. Whilst the material may not be quite as good at heat dissipation, the increased surface area makes up for it. Any gains would be marginal at best but the real benefit is in the long life of the components as the coating prevents oxidizing of the heat sink materials. So in summary, same cooling(maybe a touch better?) hella long component life.

  • @Tmoney65413
    @Tmoney65413 14 років тому

    I'd have to throw out a guess that the rough paint is more durable than a flat finish and it increases surface area for better cooling, however it is probably a negligible difference.

  • @Nutriment6464
    @Nutriment6464 14 років тому

    @fahadmuneeb it has 3, but tri-crossfire won't be very good on this board, they will run at 16x-16x-4x, assuming you don't have super high end cards, they won't be crippled, but for instance, 5870 will probably lost 10-20% performance using the 4x pci-e slot.

  • @muffemod
    @muffemod 14 років тому

    @Zraupp10 875k won't fit in any X58 board because it's a 1156 socket chip not 1366 socket.

  • @TABerselli
    @TABerselli 13 років тому

    @Ninjapcx Also, I think it is the fault of the ram, but I'm not 100% sure, but it defaults to 1066mhz. You will probably need to manually change the speed to 1600mhz in the bios set-up. If you want to ram to last super long or your system to run super cool you could just leave it at 1066mhz, lol.

  • @Nutriment6464
    @Nutriment6464 14 років тому

    @fahadmuneeb Both are pretty much the same... I think the sabertooth has a longuer warranty, so it'd be more future proof. And as for gaming, well they both have dual x16 pci-e slots, so it won't change anything. Seriously, graphics cards will make a much bigger difference than a mobo.

  • @roumanobr
    @roumanobr 14 років тому

    @InglouriousGamer2009
    Just keep in mind that WoW always evolve, they can release patches that will improve graphics. So I know for a fact that a 5770 alone can run Cataclysm very smoothly even in full HD, but once they do all the changes the game is gonna ask a little more out of the PC so another 5770 wouldn't hurt. But for now, I'm sure that just 1x5770 is plenty for ultra settings if you have a good processor and adequate memory.

  • @Nadrealis
    @Nadrealis 14 років тому

    @mushfarm If they put the warranty on for longer than that, they are just losing money because the motherboards they put out would essentially last forever and people would never want to buy another because they could just replace a broken one not because the quality was bad, but because the components themselves have a limitation. Hope that helps.

  • @smith507
    @smith507 14 років тому

    I don't think it's bent... i want to believe the camera has some lens distortion, or maybe it's a wide-angle causing the distortion.
    BTW, that board looks quite awesome

  • @hosrom
    @hosrom 14 років тому

    Ceramic coating is used in the industry for heat. Especially exhaust, meaning it keeps the heat INSIDE and prevents heat escaping. So in theory those chips will be cool to touch but they will keep the heat inside, getting hot.
    Someone correct me on this.

    It really depends on what cards you want to combine. I know for a fact that if you combine 2x460 gtx it's like 190% the power of one. I'd say most of the recent cards will give you almost twice the power in SLI.

  • @cjgan80

  • @Nadrealis

    @mushfarm Usually it's just because the components themselves burn out after that time period. The myth about companies only giving warranties for as long as the computer will last is true. It's not like a conspiracy or anything, warranties are there to protect you from manufacturing defects, not physical limitations of components. For example, for arguments sake, if a 3V 27uF capacitor will only last 9000 hours under heavy load, then obviously, they will only put a warranty for that long.

  • @StarWarsFollower
    @StarWarsFollower 9 років тому

    The motherboard is great, got one myself, biggest gripe with it has to be the lack of spacing between the two x16 PCIe lanes. Basically makes SLI/Crossfire impossible due to heat constrictions, and finally the below PCIe lane is only x4, so unusable for high bandwidth cards, much to my dismay :(

    I can't guarantee it since the new expansion is coming out and the DirectX11 is not fully used yet by WoW. My best answer would be for now yes, but if you're looking to buy a new pc that will last more then 1 year without changes i'd def. go for a 2nd 5770 or just for the same price a 480 gtx or something like that.(2x5770 are about 300$, wich is about the same price as a 470 gtx).

    Should be more then fine. I'm currently running a 460 gtx SC from EVGA, waiting to go SLI for christmas, and I'm running it very smoothly without any fps issues, full HD in ultra settings. I'd say for WoW 2x5770 might be a little too much, but at least you'll be able to play other cool games with very high setings too.

    For all the cool MOSFET - ceramix - cooling stuff I LOVE this particular model but I have a hard time diff. it w/ the Asus P6XH68D-E which is another X58/ICH10 mobo w/ USB3.0, SATA 6.0 GB, 6xDIMM DDR3 triple channel up to 24GB and the same amount of ports and slots.
    The only differences I've seen so far is the Realtek 892 audio chipset instead of a 889 and 1 less PCIex16 slot.
    Both cost approx. the same price.
    So I guess the 2 mobos are designed for 2 diff. types of demand... Which ones?

    Hey,If you want to tell me what kind of build you'd like to put on it I'd be alot more helpfull.Heres what I think without knowing your build:This Sabertooth board only allows 2-way SLI in full mode while the Rampage will allow you a 3-way SLI in full mode.So, if you want to three-way SLI buy the Rampage III Cause it can take the three cards at x16/x16/x16. If not, take the sabertooth. Amazing mobo(almost 100$ cheaper then the rampage)and it does it all except what i mentioned.

      Hope it works out well, I settled for a true Sata 3 PCIE Card as the marvell controllers are terrible.

    What USB 3.0 chip does it have? because some people will want to buy the board then the buy the Blackmagic Design Intensity and it requires a X58 or equiv. and the 3.0 chip has to be a NEC

    Some computers aren't made of 100% metal, some got windows some are fully windowed and with lights.. So sometimes it really matters how your gear looks like..

    still holds up 120+ on overwatch
    60 stable bo3
    1700 on civ V (is that normal?)
    I7 920
    Asus x58 sabretooth
    R9 280 x
    18gb ram ( 3xcorsair budget ram, 3x corsair xms 3)
    I think the case is a tt antec,
    Its just starting to lag on newer pretty games like dishonored 2
    Mid graphics 50
