Just to answer the FAQ - the road is the N2, just north of Faro
Itsnt just "a road"... N2 stands for "National road 2" and its (obvious) one of the oldest roads in portugal that connects old citys and villages for 738,5 Km
Consider one of the best "road trips" of Europe ;)
Hope you enjoyed Portugal, ride safe :)
This is a proper bike review. That guy in front wasn't hanging about.
As in Gary Johnson TT winner , and he does your fill ups too - Fagan must be pinching himself and its only January 20th
Gary was throwing that bike about! That cat has 6 lives left I reckon.
@@markjohnson8352 great reply 👍🤣
Ha. Comments section confirms my suspicions.
His comments after the Guy Martin crash were fucking crazy.
@@garrywhitelaw8723 what did he say?
Wow that's some pace! Haha looks brilliant 😎😎 this style of review is sooo much better than the usual stood in front of the camera which everyone else does. Takes a real reviewer to talk and ride 👍
Thanks dad!
@@FortyFourTeeth LOL!
Lamb Chops will be 80 next month.
Drakey Drake Jason had the harder paper round...
I couldn’t agree more chops, yours and 44’s videos are the only ones il definitely watch regardless of wether the bike is a bit of me or not and that’s a testament to you both. MCN could do with following your lead a bit..their videos leave a bit to be desired and Neeves seems to have disappeared which is a shame at least he was down to earth and relatable.
Statham saves weight by grinding down the foot pegs. Good to see a ‘modern retro’ with more than enough go to match the show.
this is got to be one of the best road test reviews I have seen in a long time, proper pace, heads up to Gary and triumph for picking a great road to review the new Thruxton!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
"Decided to go full John Terry"
I'm gonna steal that one 😂
Oh man, these roads are dreamy
One of the beat reviews I've ever seen. Amazing roads, reviewing while dragging pegs..what's not to love!
Just to note - This video and the Lamb Chops video = me buying a Thruxton RS recently. I was about to go for a Speed Triple RS 1200 - However, seeing the fun you guys had on this - I thought. Why not. The slowest bike I've owned. But, with the optional fairing - by miles the coolest bike. And one, despite the lack of tech (Quick Shifters etc) , a bike I am loving owning! Get Triumph to give you £20 ;-)
Those short wheelie and topspeed cuts were nice 👌🏻
A pleasure watching Gaz Johnson through those corners.......smooth like butter. He wasn't shy with the pace either was he ! Suberb.....Sue Perkins! Cracking!
Triumph really are killing it with all these new bikes they have bought out recently..
Fully agree. I rode the Rocket 3R Saturday. Was surprised to see how good it was. I expected far less. Can't wait to ride the Tiger 900. It may follow me home. I only wish they would build a fully updated Speed Triple. Unfortunately I don't see that happening.
Bill Kerr wasn’t the Speed Triple updated in 2017/2018? They came out with the full colour TFT display, ride by wire etc, in an R and RS version.
@@SerenityChaos1975 Yes, updated electronics and small tweaks in the engine. Not worth trading my '14 1050R for. They shroud be able to squeeze quite a bit more power from that engine configuration and lose some weight.
The original streetfighter now lags behind the competition. Given the small attention the Speed 3 has gotten in recent years and the cost of R&D vs. the profitability of the retro twins I wouldn't be surprised to see Triumph let the Speed3 fade away. That would be a pity.
FWIW I bet all Triumph engineering and cash is going toward a Speed E or similarly named electric bike. That's not a bad thing. Love my SR/F. Outpulls my Speedy by a fair margin.
Triumph seem to have absolutely smashed it with this one. Gorgeous roads and the video is awesome, especially the editing.
I love all the quick wheelie and max speed cuts 🤣🤣 absolutely hilarious
I’ve been quite sceptical of a lot of the bike reviews I’ve seen recently in terms of honesty. The closing points of this video were very reassuring in that sense.
Everything we do is honest. Total transparency. The issue is, manufacturers don't make shit bikes anymore, so it's up to us to dissect them, ignore the subjective shit and convey the dynamics
44Teeth it’s certainly refreshing, for sure. Ultimately a review needs to cut through the marketing hype and the manufacturer press packet to strike at the important points - what a bike does well and where it has shortcomings. I certainly appreciate the point about manufacturers not, on the whole, making bad bikes anymore. The quality of what we see at all levels of the market is astonishing and keeps getting better. That said, I do still very much appreciate it when reviewers (44T, FortNine, etc) can be honest about the faults of the machines they ride, however good they may be otherwise.
So how long after stopping for fuel did the rest of the demo ride catch up to you and Gaz?
Bloody hell - more power to your elbow, sir! Absolutely loved that riding and review. Even makes me think about dusting off the wallet. What a joy to see that standard of smooth & accurate riding. I thought it sounded ok too! Test ride when the salt clears...
I don't ride a bike, or even drive, the only vehicles I own are wheelchairs. But 44Teeth videos are among the best, I watch, on UA-cam. Keep up the excellent work lads!
I had a 2010 Thruxton and it was one of the best bikes I owned. Great to commute, ride around town and with a backpack, small travel bike.
Love that you guys review all kinds of bikes. Not just sportbikes. Thruxton has been a fav of mine so cool to see a good rip and review on it 🤙🏽
Awesome to hear you raving about this, it certainly is a looker, and you were hustling it along far faster than most mortals would in real life, so very high praise indeed! :-)
Wowzers, got my heart pumping watching Gaz give it some round the corners.
First - I need that road in my life, like right now!!! Loved the review even though it's about a bike I'm really not that interested in.. You and Perkins make such good content and I am forever thankful because the 44Teeth channel makes me get through the dark and miserable Swedish winter months...
Loved this bike when I had one as a loan, utterly brilliant bike!
Greetings, Allistair! So nice to see you on a proper motorbike again! I agree with "The Chop" that I really enjoy the ride-along videos that you do like this one where we get your seat-of-the-pants feelings and such. As for the bike, well... I love this thing. I always have and it only seems like the bike is getting better and better, in spite of that crappy Euro 5 dredge that the industry now has to suffer through. I know the word "character" almost seems like a generic term these days, but honestly, this bike has tons of it. Some day I hope to put one of these in the stable, though I wonder if I'm too big for the bike. Not fat, in case you're wondering! - just big. I need to go ride one again and see how it goes. I think you have inspired me, man! Anyway, thanks for another great review. Cheers!
As an owner of a modded up and tuned Thruxton R (99whp) that rides it as hard as I'm willing to in the twisties, this was really satisfying to see you rip it up as you did.
Hi Jason ☺, hands down this is my favourite road test video, epic job mate👍🏼
When will BBB be BBBACK?
BBB B BBBACK
Budget Bike Battle Back in Benidorm Bandying 'Bout with the Boys. Soon hopefully.
Great, detailed review as ever. Sounds like an absolutely cracking bike - old school looks and a proper twisty road weapon.
I also know I need to try the roads around Faro :D
151 mph from my 2016 Thruxton R with a cam and ecu tune with 101 rear wheel horsepower. 11.678 quarter mile ET at altitude. The bike easily pulls higher gearing. Sweet motor.
I love the wheelies injected into the video
haha love the pieces with the wheelie moments! nicely done, proper editiing!
Love it. I read in another review (motorcycle.com) that 44Teeth got rebuked by the Triumph folks for pulling those stunts.
I love those analog dials/gages right in between the bars in chrome. Beautiful cockpit
I am writing this as the Video starts. The old Thruxton R was promoted by many moto publications as a modern bike with classic lines. But when one actually did push it as you can do on many modern bikes it was clear that it still was not a modern bike handling wise as it felt heavy and slow in the corners on a technical road section.
I think I got my answers, -Why bother to go to the gym when you got this road :P
Fantastic review, Jase, as usual. If money was no object, I’d have one too. I was fortunate enough to ride a 2016 one for 1k miles around Tasmania in 2018 and it blew me away. It was also fantastic to see Gary riding. Man, he makes it look absolutely effortless but it was clear you lads were nipping on. Top job. Cheers
Tell ya what mate, but massive fair play to you for sticking on to the back of Gazza - he wasn't bloody holding back!
A spiritual successor to my XB12SS in a lot of ways, I'm happy that some manufacturers still make bikes like these!
I feel the same way about my Daytona 765; you don't have to go really fast to enjoy riding. THAT's wonderful engineering and why I want another Triumph, this one! And when I do go quickly, it excels fantastically
That ride, the looks of the bike... Magical.
Great road . I know this one like the palm of my hands. Really great you apreciated my back yard.😎
reminds me of shakey and frosty in the old fast bikes days!
What a road, what a bike, what a rider. Fantastic. Great video Al.
Nige & Al are working it here. A fuelled up Thruxton 1200 weighs 214 kgs. Bit of weight to hustle round the corners. Triumph advertise 197 kgs dry.
This bike has a certain style and uniqueness to it.
It’s not my personal style or choice, but I can appreciate it and will stop and have a look when I see one.
Absolutely love that your in full gear, i do the same- Full Leather Suit Tech-Air enabled !!! Who wants road rash ?Not me
Haha he was flying! Nice to see a proper test on a "test" ride :)
Great review, just subbed..
So is the RS worth the jump in the price from the R?
Granted if money is not an issue answer is obvious, but if one is on a budget, better to save for the RS?
Coming from a Cruiser (Indian Challenger) the Thruxton will be my Cafe weekend bike..possibly commuter now & then.
The N2 north of Faro is one of my favourite roads in Europe :-)
So good!
@@FortyFourTeeth There's a little turn-off of the N2 a bit outside Faro on the right, to a small town called Cachoppo [spelling?], with a few miles of road into it that make the N2 look boring AF...
@@fat_biker thanks for the tip mate! Btw it is Cachopo
@@janheering8261 It's bumpy in places & a bit nadgery, but it's proper hardcore fun...
@@fat_biker sounds great. I am living now in Andalusia so it is not too far away. I will check it out in the spring!
Wow, what a lovely looking machine the Thruxton is!
The amount of times you scraped the pegs 😂😂😂🤟
Triumph are really giving there retro,s some guts now and I’m all for that!
i love the random wheelie shots!! So good!
What a review and blast with Gaz. So wish to have been on that ride. Thanks
Bloody hell, no wonder you were wearing a one piece. That was a trackday with traffic
How does it compare to street triple rs? I can’t decide. I like the looks of thruxton but Street triple rs has better performance. Ugh!
When gary almost hit the cat did you see the name of the town they were entering? Doguno ha ha
“You can literally put it anywhere.” My girl told me that last night too mate.
Can I have your sloppy seconds?
Wow, that pace! Great review! Always top notch content!
Thinking of changing my name to Nigel. 44T videos would feel proper personal then. Another great vid.
I have a few "bits and bobs" on mine (2019 R), the sound is there you just need to release it :P
A ridiculous nitpick, but with a Scrambler 1200 sat in my drive don’t you think Triumph could have put a seamless tank on this?
"Naughty little sausage" is my new favorite accolade 😅
Epic roads, epic bike!
What amazing roads and an excellent review. Well done good Sirs!
Had a 99 sprint st years ago, loved it. Consider the speedy, but the thruxy looks good...great road you were on. Subscribed.
Should of called this video “Al and Gazza attack some twisties on the new Thruxton”
Awesome stuff boys! 😁👍
Man that looked like a blast! Finally Triumph nailed it I am a sucker for analog tachometer no ugly headlights great review 4k UHD thanks so much for this review. Does it have a steering stabilizer?
Why are the ‘mainstream’ reviewers no where near as good as this. Good man.
Great review of a GREAT road bike. Always enjoy a cool looking 'classic' bike being ridden properly quick...cool indeed!
Loved the look of the 1st gen, but like you thought it too heavy, lethargic and thought it felt more like a cruiser with the low revving sluggish engine than a racer which it certainly wasn't as it was slow to turn in. This next gen seems quite an improvement but I still think it needs a few more horses say 125bhp. Wish Triumph had kept the looks the same as the 1st gen that really was a peach. It's now starting to look a bit like the Speed Twin and other cafe racers. Not sure this gen is a big enough improvement for me. I would have a Speed Triple RS instead. Good review btw.
How does the Thruxton RS compare with the Speed Twin?
A little faster, with better suspension, more aggressive riding stance and cafe racer styling. That’s it
You guys be dipping hell yeah. Wish they would put that headlight setup on the Street Triple.
I’ve got a standard Thruxton 1200, the non R model without the Brembo brakes or the Ohlins / Showa suspension. surprisingly it handles very nicely in corners. Only 85.5 dyno BHP & 71 ft lbs dyno torque but you just waft around on the vast poundage
of torque.
Al. Its more expensive than 2020 Speed, funwise which did you prefer? Also Thrux suspension on UK roads?
So tricky to answer as they're completely different bikes! The suspension was very good but didn't really get the chance to test it on choppy roads
Excellent overview/summary I’ve got a Thruxton R however I wouldn’t change it as I’ve spend a fortune making it a little different it’s more than enough on the roads of Thailand and it looks the business...!!!
That road looks phenomenal. So does the bike
this bike or speed twin? which is more fun to ride?
How comes triumph can put these pipes on meeting euro 5 when other manufacturers put hideous bucket size cans on?
That is a good looking bike. Nice review statham.
What a proper go on these two!
I have a 2016 ThruxtonR with some bits changed and some bits removed. It's the bike that always gets comments from both riders and non riders alike.
But I think it definitely feels heavy in the corners (I've got the lower clip-ons). And if I had money I'd buy a more usable bike as well.
Here in lies my problem. I love it but I don't at the same time.
The new bike sounds interesting but I think I'd have the same issue.
So if anyone is thinking of buying an R or RS make sure you take them for a solid ride first.
Just about fell out of my computer chair flipping from side to side holy fuck then the wife yells supper and it's back to reality 3 more months of fucking winter.....
Stopped riding bikes, but these boys still bring it 🤙
I'm not even into these modern retros, but it's a sweet looking ride and they don't seem to have compromised the performance too much for the aesthetics (my usual complaint and why I'm not a big fan of the category).
Brilliant review as always, even better roads.
Is that Gary Johnson?
The real Gaz Johnson
44Teeth nice, they don’t give away TT wins that’s for sure, he is very quick and AL is not slow, great stuff. Safe but ‘progressive’ 😁👍
I'm close to buy one. The first what I will do is decat for better sound and even more torque. Also the seat have to be changed to a twoseater.
HAHA Love the laugh at 3:11! Pure joy. Thanks for the great review
Amazing review man
More Peaorque- ⬆️ peak power and torque, nice one Nige. Looks like a classical casual blast!!
That's one of the best looking bikes on the market
That really looks like fun.
13:44 that's what she said.
Do you have any pegs left after that ride?
A Suomy helmet sighting
I think that cat was really scared by the 'Dog'ueno sign. Thank heavens Nige had his Euro 5 de-Cat fitted to his RS.
Nice to see a real Test Ride!!!
Nice one! Raced in the same championship as Gaz last year, top bloke!
Need a bike to take a pillion from time to time. Speed Twin is the choice but would love to see parts from the Thruxton RS carry over to a Speed Twin RS.
Well I definitely learned how to corner ; Nice Video again from the 44
At 7.33 I thought it so funny that the road sign says DOGueno LOL
Great review... awesome Bike... I thought I'd be the one to spoil the party and say... did any of you see the skies in the background. Putrid. Anyway. Can't wait for my FE to arrive.
