Mercedes-AMG releases a new entry model SL to its lineup of legendary roadster vehicles. It comes exclusively in a 2+2 soft top configuration, and is powered by a turbo charged 4-cylinder engine. Will it be enough to live up to its name? Check out the video to see what we think.

I was thinking the price would be around 75K. 109K is insane, even for Mercedes.

2 liter 4 cylinder in a SL,"face palm". And what isn't an "AMG" these days, they just slap that badge onto everything. AMG used to mean something
the W121 had a 4 cylinder in the 190 SL way back in 1955

You have no idea how much this car means, the engine makes this car better handling, lighter and more agile, have u driven an sls? Its heavy, not agile and the steering is trash
@Fiwek23452 I personally would have no interest in a heavy V8 at the nose of this small car. I imagine the 4 makes it a better handling more agile car...rather than a grand tourer /boulevard cruiser with the heavy V8.
I test drove one for four days and I’ll tell you it’s a quick car. 185 mile an hour unlimited and 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds. That’s plenty of performance. It is an AMG through and through because it was designed by AMG and built by AMG. why are so many people obsessed with the amount of cylinders in a car I have an SL 43 on order. There’s no way I’m paying an extra £60,000 for an extra four cylinders
Americans have been led to believe that anything less than V8 is not a performance engine, mainly because their local manufacturers don't really know how to make powerful engines apart from adding displacement and cylinders.
Edit: their local manufacturers never had the incentive to make powerful but small engines because they can make a bigger profit making "light trucks" with massive engines instead of cars. Also US manufacturers until very recently tended to use old engine designs for many decades because they rarely had enough money during the 80s and early 90s to design new engines.
Yea this car is inline with a Miata and people praise that car for it's stupid quirks lol

That 4-cyl is working OVERTIME, it's gonna start burning oil in 50k miles.
Why is it working overtime? Would largely depend on how it’s worked right? For a daily driver/boulevard cruiser/highway roadtripper it seems like it would be as fine as any other turbo 4 cylinder.

it will do to 160k miles without any issues. Even if you push it every day. Its all a question about how you and for what you develop an engine. And this one is a real AMG.

There are people that want looks without power maybe that will appeal to them. But i wouldve liked to see this in an inline 6 instead. Also this should have been offered air suspension with woods and different color specs.

I've really been waiting for a few months for these to be reviewed as I love this powerplant in the CLA 45. The target market for SL is typically a "retired dentist" type person; I think this would meet all of such a person's needs. They may spring for the V8, but they don't HAVE to in order to get all the "SL" things they want from this type of car. Less weight on the front end makes it likely at bit more willing to turn, and in coastal areas with a lot of good weather, where many retired wealthy people live, good mpg's are not to be discounted. I think it has a market, and I LOVE this color. $110K seems about $20K too much to me; but remember a loaded out CLA 45 AMG is close to $80K and that is an "A" class, while this is an "S" class.

It's a beautiful looking car and amazing power from a 2-liter turbo. I would really love a hard top option.
If you’re already spending $120k on a SL 43 and might as well get at least a SL 55 that point.
SL55 base price is starting at $141K
At 6ft 3inch my sport car choices are very limited. I will revisit this beauty after years of depreciation make this more paletteable.
Nice car in that blue colour, but this 4-cylinder in an expensive car craze from Mercedes has to end. It hurts refinement. I think I expected more performance from this car actually for the asking price.
I’ll wait 2 years and get a certified pre owned 2022 SL63 for about the same money. 🤷♂️

The power is healthy for a sports car, but i'd prefer an inline 6 engine. It sounds better, and is less complicated.

The new SL such a departure from the previous formula and I just cant get behind. 2+2 and now a four cylinder that is already having valve spring failure

Why does it look dark blue and then suddenly turns to a aqua color?
The license plate is the same. It looks like when the clouds are a blue/white, the car looks blue. When the clouds are a grey/dark color, the car looks aqua.
It’s just the white balance of the different cameras I filmed with. GoPros always make it super saturated, and the Canon camera flattens it out and warms up the color a bit more.
lvpls bag love the quality and it came with every pocket and compartment just as stated in the description. I particularly like the length of the handle it sets nicely on my shoulder not too long or too short plus the sturdiness it seems to have.
