It was pretty bad in this video he usually doesn’t do that with the music probably just an editing mistake
That's actually my preference. They have great cars but Sam doesn't add any value in my opinion
Might be the best video yet, don’t have to hear him
If you're a person that actually likes driving, the mdx is the better driving car, I've crossed shopped both and the mdx is definitely the car for me.
Oh yeah for sure! Genesis/Hyundai/Kia got recalled like no tomorrow with their engine failures and fires.
Not to mention that they are overpriced and think they compete with the Germans.
Their dealership experience is also HORRIFIC!
Genesis problems were a long time ago and the GV70 & GV80 absolutely SPANK the Germans and the Japanese in luxury, performance, reliability, and value! Just bought my wife a Genesis GV70 3.5t and it’s way better than any Lexus, Acura, or BWW I’ve ever driven!!!
@@eyemrightShut up. Lol
@@thomasferrarojr.9772 🤣🤣😂
@eyemright Don't let them deceive you. I own a Genesis 2021 GV80 and have never had any issues. Also, the Genesis GV80 feels far more premium than any Lexus RX or Mercedes-Benz GLE I have ever been in. And yes, Genesis is better than Lexus and all other Japanese luxury brands. In my humble opinion, Genesis is the only good luxury brand from Asia currently. The only thing their higher-end luxury cars lack is the performance department compared to the Germans, but I am sure they will surpass or match them once their Magma series of cars launch, no questions asked.
I bought a MDX Type S Advance back in June. It’s quick, quiet, and comfortable. I think it’s a looker too. Luxury with Honda build quality. Massaging seats are icing on the cake 😀

@@aono335 Actually… YES 🤷🏽♂️😂
I don’t get tire of watching it.
The weight was a little bit of factor, but is countered by more hp and tq... shown by the roll races being just about dead even. The real difference here is in the gearing,10spd vs 8spd. You can especially hear this when showing the inside video of the MDX. The 1st and 2nd gears of the MDX (similar to my wife's '19 Pilot Elite awd) are unusually short, compared to other similar vehicles. This is mainly why, even with less tq, the MDX scoots away from the GV80. Enjoy the content and LOVE my '21 MYP🤙
Correct, Acura engineering FTW
Same reason why the pilot launches hard and is able to do 0-60 in 6.5 seconds
Think it would be a different result if both cars are full of passengers
@@jameslee5237it wouldn't
Nice to see the MDX actually compared to another luxury suv it competes against instead of a Tremor and ZR2. Puts things in perspective.
Not going to lie, I am surprised the Acura won given how their sedans get gapped.
That’s because Acura prioritizes their SUVs and not their sedans, so their SUVs are top tier and the sedans are OK
Flashpro and bolt ons big difference than stock
@@drivescene6747 you do know it's the same motor with the same power in a heavier chassis.
@@maxiiimus2165 that is well known. What does that have to do with my comment?
@@drivescene6747 you just said it in your first comment. You think acura prioritized the mdx over the sedan but how? They didn't give it a hp boost in engine setup to go along with a heavier chassis. They just simply dropped it in. The tlx has a brutal class with other competitors in its class compared to the mdx, there's nothing that you can compare it with in terms of 3 row luxury suv
Shocked is an understatement. Good job MDX. Both are beautiful SUV’s.
Shocked? How come?
What’s funny is the Geni isn’t touted as a performance SUV the type S is lol.
I mean the type s still won with less power, and nowadays most luxury vehicles come with added performance because it's expected and also the standard.
Same as the base X5 40i but it beats both!
Type-Slow anyone? Type-Slow? Where's the Type-Slow crowd at?
I offer now as the time to say Type-Slow.
All joking aside, the two best looking entries in the segment. The MDX having an amazing sound on top of it.
Epic race!
They've gone silent after the TLX Type S destroyed the Stinger GT on a track.
Compared to X5 4.0 it is still slow. Even my 2020 BMW 540 will easily beat any of these two.
@@SBM200612 comparing a 5 series to mid size SUVs, AMAZING.
@@MaticaliseBlogspot It is a real world situation. I need to replace my 2020 BMW 540 with a 3-row SUV. I check what is out there and these two are affordable and have more power than my car, so I expect the performance to be the same or better. Genesis for example has 40 more hp than my car. Then I go drive it and it feels noticeably slower. I go drive X5 4.0 that has the same power as my car (40 hp less than Genesis) and X5 performs very similarly to my car. Something is not right here.
@@TheBreakfastLover WHEN DID A TLX DESTROY A STINGER? What world are we in? 😂 TLX will never beat a stinger.
As an owner of several Acura’s over the years, I can say they’re grossly underrated in net HP. An Acura tech told me most all of the 3.5’s are around 300-305hp. I’m sure the Type S is more than 335hp.
Having owned a GV80 Prestige for a year and considering the MDX Type S…. this was a great vid. I will say as far as reliability and service go… I would NOT recommend Genesis!
How has your experience owning the GV80 been like? Issues?

Been waiting for this video, so happy with the results! Let’s go team acura
Hi Sam. Glad this challenge took place between the Acura MDX Type S and the Genesis GV80. Our request was granted. Also, I'm glad that SUV challenges are taking place more often. It should due to the fact that since 2018, overall SUV sales are more than car sales. Despite having a pinch less horsepower and pound feet of torque, the MDX Type S had the advantage due to the fact that it's 209 pounds lighter than the GV80. In addition to that the MDX has quicker shifting and two more speeds which is 10 compared to 8 for the GV80. At some point in the coming months it would be nice to see a three way challenge between these two vehicles and the Jeep Grand Cherokee L with the 5.7 V8 engine. The performance numbers for that engine is 357 horsepower along with 390 pound feet of torque. Those numbers are definitely in line with the performance numbers from the MDX Type S and the Genesis GV80. It would be a very interesting challenge if it takes place.
How about the Q7? We all know the X5 will lay waste to all these cars the Audi should be a good match for the Type S.
@@TheChismFamily Well, as for the Audi Q7 the standard engine is a 2.0 liter four cylinder turbo producing 261 horsepower. That engine is on the base Premium 45 trim. That model Q7 would not be ok for a challenge. However, the model Q7 that would perform well in a challenge will be the Prestige 55 trim. That model comes equipped with a 3.0 liter V6 turbo engine producing 335 horsepower along with 369 pound feet of torque. As for the BMW X5 the standard engine is a 3.0 liter inline 6 cylinder engine producing 335 horsepower along with 330 poind feet of torque which comes on the x40i model. This model would compete with the other vehicles mentioned. The BMW X5 with the V8 engine would easily win. The M50i model comes equipped with a twin turbo 4.4 liter V8 engine producing 523 horsepower along with 553 pound feet of torque. The BMW X5M comes with the same engine, but as for the horsepower it's an even 600 along with 553 pound feet of torque. It wouldn't be fair if these two BMW X5 models entered the challenge with the other vehicles. The BMW X5 with the standard inline 6 engine would be the one for this challenge so that things would be fair.
add the bmw x5 xdrive40i whit this race

Nothing against Hyundai. But they haven’t made anything spectacular that ages well. And when I say that I’m talkin in comparison to performance cars. Honda has them beat in that category. Like what’s their most memorable car? The original Genesis? The tiburon? Maybe someone could inform me? When you say Honda you can go on for days
Incorrect, Hyundai never focused on performance until now, Hyundai motor group such as Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are dominating Honda group in everything they’ve done, tech, features, look, value, resale value, sales numbers, demand, etc…
@@theofficialquent3488 I’ll let you be the guy that. When Hyundai makes anything close to the original NSX then we can converse. Until then Honda is superior. You know it and I know it. They offer that 100k warranty for a reason lol.

How much times has Hyundai been on wards best engines? What records have they broke? It’s okay to be bias for something you like but let’s talk facts. The facts are, Hyundai is the fastest growing manufacturer in the past decade. That’s a fact. But how comes the civic beats the Elantra in every category? How comes the Accord beats the Sonata in every category? How comes the CRV beats the Tucson in every category? What’s Hyundais answer to the Odyssey? The palisade might be the only answer they have and the 23 pilot I am sure will wipe the floor with that? As for Acura, they sell out their products year in an out. They never have left over models. So idk what you talkin bout. Let’s talk about Honda being the leading engine company in the world. The s2000 still is the most powerful naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine of all time. The GV80 does offer a 3rd row.

Great race! I expected the Acura MDX type S to win with it being a little lighter and the quicker transmission response that it has. Genesis gv80 is more of a cruiser. MDX looks great, has a better sounding engine, better handling with the sweet SHAWD and more spacious. Cabin is upscale and feature/tech content is generous for the money.
I’ll take the more youthful MDX over GV80, although the latter is a mighty impressive vehicle. Genesis is honestly killing it.
Decent points. I'd take the Genny as it looks MUCH better imo and think many would agree (Former Bentley designers designed the GV80), better tech (blind view cameras, augmented reality?) better layout (haven't been a fan of Acura interiors in quite a while...many new vehicles have surprising too many buttons, can't get to the Goldilocks layout), better ride in the Genesis if you're after luxury, better warranty and likely better fuel efficiency (I think the Acura is shockingly bad for being part of the Honda family). It would be interesting to see how much, if any, quicker the GV70 3.5T is.
@Catholic Firefighter Thanks, that makes the GV70 notably quicker. And the absence of those 425 pounds might tend to minimize any disadvantage of having "only" an eight speed transmission.

Those massive 22-inch rims on the GV80 plus that gigantic crest for grill is what's holding it back. The MDX Type S has slightly better aerodynamics and also a few hundred pounds lighter. It's not the weight so much that makes the difference since they're very similar, it's the 10 speed trans vs 8 speed trans that's keeping the underpowered single turbo Acura there with the Hyundai.
Genesis and hyundai cars have slouch transmissions always that are turned more towards smoothness and comfort rather than performance, I'm sure the weakness point is the transmission
False, the luxury trims are tuned to be smooth, put the MDX up against a Genesis sport, it’ll lose.

Both are great SUV’s in their respective segment. Overall, the Genesis has a better looking interior/exterior but, the Acura is no slouch. That said, Acura needs to step up their infotainment system. As for the performance, both are great for what they are and I’m impressed by the results of the Acura.
both of these engines are behind the Germans. Unnecessary drag race...
Can you move your finish-line camera to be right on the 1/4 mile mark, rather than offset a bit before the finish? That way the photo-finish is more accurate.
I would choose the Genesis any day of the week. It has power, luxury and with the exception of a Bentley, it looks like nothing else on the roads. The Genesis only lacks legacy.
Power to Weight is the most important factor in drag races no matter the cars
Genesis has more power and torque so it's a wash. I think the difference is the tranny.
