@@kristians2704 under the hood the MDX isn’t new. Much like how Lexus uses old engines and transmissions to ensure their cars will be reliable, that’s what they did with the MDX. The question is will the new V6 turbo in the type-s variants be reliable?
I always thought Acuras and BMWs share a lot in common, but also in a bad way. They both lack front center storage space! You end up with a cup holder full of little things.. By the way, Genesis looks like a budget Bentayga whereas Acura looks like a Pilot type R. And I think those families picking up kids doesn't quite match with the latter.
People only die a little inside when they have kids, they still like sporty cars and Acura has a luxury but not snobby luxury reputation in the US. (Which is perhaps outdated now that you can buy a Merc SUV for MDX money.)
Love the comparison reviews just choose sides on the real pros and cons of each car so we get the real picture of what they offer kind of like the conclusion segment. You should do the Genesis 4 turbo against the MDX and later the type A vs the 3.5 v6 Genesis.
I had the worst experience having a Kia car. This was my first time I chose Kia because I liked the car that I was going to lease. The previous two cars that I drove were Toyota and they never ever gave me problems that usually an older car gives (one Problem on top of another). Imagine you trust the company, you get a brand new car thinking that “hey it’s a new car. I’m not going to have all the problems that old cars give" and then one day you wake up, your car is not starting, the next day brake lights don’t work, the following week another problem comes up.

Alright, let’s talk drive modes. I have questions, Why? And why is it a big deal? I’m not talking tow/haul mode but snow, sand, sport, sport +, race, mud, gravel, etc. Is this because corporations have determined we can’t drive or because they can’t make a car you can just drive by how you press the throttle and a couple switches for TC and AWD/4WD things.?
You should see it in person and then compare them. I saw one couple of days ago and the GV 80 was glowing. I guarantee you, Genesis will turn heads while you won't even be able to tell the difference between a 2017 MDX and the new MDX on the road not without trying real hard.

@@kristians2704 Stay in Europe.
@@AFCompany The MDX has some serious reliability problems throughout its history, but both Honda and Hyundai are generally very reliable brands. These days, most surveys and analyses of the data give the edge to Hyundai, but I don't think there's a reliability gap between the two that buyers should be particularly concerned about.
I’ve seen a few of these on the road where I live, I think they are absolutely stunning. Look far more expensive than they actually are.
Good comparison, but can’t wait for the type S. More comparable to the genesis here. I feel like most cars are comparable to each other it just comes down to flavor and which you’d prefer.
Please stop using "sport" and "performance" in reference to SUV, the GV80 looks way better, great video
The GV80 will have fire problems, as all Hyundai and Kia products have them
@@justsahar1253 not all, my neighbor has not had one problem with hers. It's fine. I got other neighbors with Hyundai's, there's seem to be fine too.
I enjoyed their interaction more than the suv comparisons...new subbie
Which of those 2 is more reliable ?
I am not a big fan of turbo
The Genesis is obviously the better vehicle. That MDX drive mode selector would piss me off thinking it’s the volume button.
U guys are funny😄👍
Right on time when I'm looking for the comparison of these 2 vehicles..ty
The Genesis is really a very nice car but the MDX is doing it better!
Great work? Which one has a better resale value in your opinion?
The Acura. Korean cars have awful resale.
Korean cars have AWFUL resale.

@@helpmenow7 most people care, especially when you are paying for a $60k plus vehicle.
This was a great comparison! the SUV choice will depend on your personal preference
What I find funny is the young guy likes the what I would consider a older person's SUV and the older guy likes the more sporty looking SUV. I'm sorry the Genesis reminds me of a Lincoln or Buick. And the Acura MDX looks sporty and modern.
Tommy has really brought life to TFL!
Love both vehicles a lot. Got a 2019 RDX and love every bit of it. No one can beat SHAWD best in the industry hands down. Probably will upgrade to MDX once paid off and go with Acura due to reliability. However, I think Hyundai have been improving year over year exponentially.
man that genesis is nice. Journalists want sporty, consumers want luxury.

It was the worst car I ever had in the snow, the OE tires suck. Hyundai replaced the transmission because it was slipping, which never fixed the problem. I replaced the steering wheel grommet which saved me $400 dollars. (love youtube) The fuel gauge sensor went out. (tried replacing but to hard) The MPG gauge was never correct. I averaged 27 MPG even though the gauge read 29. Maybe 8 recalls.
I then gave the car to my son-in-law and yesterday the engine blows up. I regularly changed the oil with Mobil 1, and a Purolator PureONE oil filter. So I maybe saved $2,000 off a Honda, but the quality is not the same.

@@joemikey278 ur welcome!
Thank you for pointing out the armrest-less captain's chairs in the Acura
On paper the Genesis is better
But if you want to keep the car for any length of time, you have to go with the Acura. It will just be so much more reliable in the long run.
how can you predict reliability on a car that hasn't even been on sale for one year?
@@kristians2704 under the hood the MDX isn’t new. Much like how Lexus uses old engines and transmissions to ensure their cars will be reliable, that’s what they did with the MDX. The V6 is old and has been around for years and the 10 speed has been out for a few years now with no issues. So new model but old mechanics. The question is will the new V6 turbo in the type-s variants be reliable?
Acura reliability is horrendous. Stop loving in the 90s
@@blakeswan5688 ha have you ever owned one? They are extremely reliable. Their ratings went down from glitchy tech not mechanical issues.

Will take the Acura, better handling, more space, superior sound, better value, better safety (just ask Tiger). Just a much more balanced vehicle.
I would use the remote park for those dummies that park too close to me. So I can get my wheelchair in & out of the car..
The engine in the Acura sits sideways, like in a minivan. OK... you mean where it routinely delivers several hundred thousand trouble free miles? Good luck with your Genesis Tommy!
You guys are fantastic never change!
Acura definitely good for long term and resale value. The genesis looks really nice,, more luxury, but depreciate quick. And for $8000 more than the acura, it is gonna be tough to pick the gensis
Yes, if money wasn't an issue the genesis would be better, but the acura is arguably better looking and just cooler vehicle. And what you said about it being more reliable
MDX for me. Just wished that it towed more!
I thought when GV came out it was gorgeous but now next to the Acura is actually look bland. Acura looks amazing.
You should see it in person and then compare them. I saw one couple of days ago and the GV 80 was glowing. I guarantee you, Genesis will turn heads while you won't even be able to tell the difference between a 2017 MDX and the new MDX on the road not without trying real hard.
I have seen it in person it just doesn't do it for me anymore but the again I'm more or a sporty liking type which is why I like Acura. I never considered Acura Luxury or like Sporty premium.
haha Love that father son dynamic
I bashed one of TFLs recent reviews when they reviewed the Model Y vs the Mach-e but this was a great review. The MDX is the gold standard in this category/price range but the Genesis is so nice and fresh you’d have to give it a serious consideration if you were in the market. I’d have a hard time deciding and I own a 2015 Santa Fe Sport turbo🤷🏽♂️. Great comparison guys! Now if only Cadillac could build a three row mid size as nice as the Aviator!

Nice try comparing a Hyundai from more than 10 years ago, when the korean brand was starting to take the stage, with a Genesis from 2021. They've come a long way since then, even on the realiability front.
"That's a 1980s mindset"

I disagree with him with that 1980s mindset. I will definitely take the Acura any day. I think he should say base on your personal preference. Acura isn't quite a desirable luxury brand either though. Its like a sub luxury brand. Not going for the top notch.
