Good deal, used to have the Harley Davidsons, sold them, missed riding so found a Yamaha Vstar 650. Not alot of power but fun to ride and always try to do all my work myself. Good video brother!
Nice brother, that's awesome!! I have a 1980 yamaha XJ750 Maxim. It basically sits a lot. I have some work to do to it soon and hopefully get more use out of it! Ride safe!! 👊 Thanks for coming by!!
Oh yes, she is running great now! I am a motorsports technician, currently laid off due to coronavirus. Went digging today! Got another silver! Short video about 3 hrs hunting. Didnt find a whole lot but was still fun! Thanks Dan!
I'm the opposite 🤣 motorcycle and small engine I'm good, cars, not so good! I can do basic stuff but just enough stuff to do my own brakes and maintenance. Basic wrench turning on cars for me
Just re-assembled '04 1100 VStar basket case, all in cardboard boxes and Rubbermaid storage bins. I like how you mention the size of the fasteners in addition to what needs doing. It helps to have the correct tools ahead of time. Discovered why it was taken apart, got it running, sounds like wrist pin knocking or a rod. Any suggestions for a qualified engine builder for these things? My shop just isn't set up for that extensive of a repair.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate that very much! Those motors are typically pretty bullet proof. The valves go put of adjustment quite often and are recommended to be adjusted every oil change. Not always necessary, but I'd say every 6,000 they need to be tweaked. Is the noise only when it runs or upon start up? They are notorious for starter clutch issues also. If the engine is in need of rebuilding, definitely get a manual, it's not hard to do, but can easily be messed up as the timing with the motors is a bit strange and needs some attention to detail when setting the timing. Same with the starter clutch. I have had quite a few that I have had to repair because someone would attempt to replace their starter clutch and set the timing wrong and then bend valves upon start up. E
@@wicked_digger I was under the impression that the starter clutch was just a one-way bearing, and should have nothing to do with the timing... 🤔 I've put that back together, things seemed right and tight 👍
@monotheis6889 it is a one way bearing. You are supposed to set the front cylinder to TDC when replacing it and make sure your timing is set properly when replacing it. I have a tech bulletin straight from yamaha about it. I worked for yamaha for a out 17 years and am a gold certified yamaha tech. If you didn't do that, you get very lucky! 🤣
I did do them, but they weren't off by much. Typically you don't have to unless they have been tinkered with. Always good to do on a higher mileage unit anyhow, but rarely necessary

@@wicked_digger i went out today to take the Simplex out and found 3.50 in change and a handful of pull tabs...
Nice bike I couldn't tell you a thing about fixing a bike but put an old school muscle car in front of me I'm good to go lol.

@@wicked_digger So, it will turn counter-clockwise, it just spins the starter (I'm hearing a sound like an electric motor being turned manually.)
Thank you! Nice refreshment!

Did you have to sync the carbs?
