I find it difficult to not get upset whenever I hear a song from The Cranberries, simply because of the huge loss that Dolores’ death was. Of course I never knew her, but as a metal head through and through, their music and especially her voice, spoke to me. That’s pretty rare considering the type of music I normally really get into. I love their albums, and it’s specifically down to their unique sound both arrangement wise and of course, Dolores’ voice. So,now, every time I hear them, while instantly being transported back to when I was listening to their music on repeat in the 90s, I also feel this deep sense of loss, knowing Dolores is gone. It’s an almost overwhelming feeling of sadness and loss, even though I didn’t know her at all.
I’ll tell you I met Dolores and I’d say the best way to describe how she really was . The teaching bit she did for the Irish voice. Full of life , sweet smile and loved to joke. Yes if she met you during a one on one meeting she’d give you a hug. So sadly missed, Dolores.
@@HollyCranfan it’s wonderful to hear that she’s every bit as nice as she seems. I’ve always had tremendous respect and admiration for her singing abilities, so I love that she was also a wonderful person on top of it. I just wish she could have beaten her demons, much like Layne Staley.
The Cranberries definitely earned and owned their moment. Dolores could do no wrong vocally. A great deal of her songs go from uplifting to tear invoking. Linger, Dreams, Just my Imagination, Daffodil lament, and Waltzing back... I mean they crushed and held their own in a male dominated genre.
I've said it before here, but I was so happy to introduce my mother to The Cranberries and she became a huge fan. Now, both my mom and Delores are gone and both are sorely missed.
Such a beautiful sad song. Hard to listen to this now that Dolores has passed. The pain in her voice is raw and emotional. Her wonderful Irish accent so powerful in her words. 😥😥 Luckily I heard your Zombie reaction last year. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Grew up listening to the Cranberries, I am Irish, they were huge in Ireland and worldwide, so proud of the Irish talent, I am a singer myself and sing all over Ireland and always get asked to sing Cranberries. I love this song. The Corrs were another hugely successful Irish group so I think you would enjoy them as well.
This is a fabulous example of how versatile her voice actually is. That wonderful range, subtle tone and that lovely soft Irish accent makes it a great song.
That’s apparently a band favorite (& mine too). I watched several live concert videos and noticed they always saved that for the encore. The fans loved it like crazy ! The concert in Korea was fantastic.
There's more. You've missed out - check out to suggestions in the comments - Dreams, Linger, Ode to My Family, Promises, Zombie, Stars, Daffodil's Lament, ... You won't be sorry.
I'm going to second the "Ode to my Family" suggestion. I still can't keep a dry eye during the whole song. I also love "Fe-Fi-Fo", though it is very much an angry song. Being about child molestation and abuse, how can it NOT be? There is also a live version of "Promises" that is simply manic.
They played this song as Dolores' coffin was carried out the Church after her Funeral Mass. Had me and I'm sure many others as well in tears of Sorrow.
Delores had such a beautiful voice, although she is gone now we are very fortunate to still be able to experience her music. If you haven’t reacted to it the song ‘Ode to the family’ is a really beautiful song. Thank you for all the amazing reactions, by the way I love your new movie reaction channel it’s awesome. Peace and love once again from Flagstaff Az
Her voice is beyond angelic. Not only can she hut any note, at any time, any way that she wants in that gorgeous tone of hers, but she sings in a way that is so human. So tangible. So vulnerable. And not afraid to be any of those things. Listen to enough of her and you know her. Can't help but fall in love with her. Her passing was the most painful of any celebrity death in my experience. And by a HUGE margin.
Dear Amber I really love and appreciated your reaction. Its so authentic and like your tee shirt says you "embrace empathy",I can see that when you're touched and moved by such a special embodiment of "humanity" as Dolores O Riordan surely was.You find yourself "overcome" by the "truth" of it all, as Dolores sings "everything's complex" It's that surprising use of that word "complex" which got me fighting back those involuntary tears, the key which unlocked that clarity of emotional turmoil embedded into the human condition, life, love, longing, heartache, identity and empathy. When I'm in that bitter sweet moment and the heart swells, the throat locks and gulps and the tears flow despite myself ,I find that difficult enough here on my own ,but seeing you wrestle with that in a very public forum,( when I'm sure you're thinking "I just wanna be private RIGHT NOW!!! to navigate these unexpected deep emotions that have surfaced because of a three minute pop song OMG HOW CAN THAT BE!!!!.I didn't sign up for"heartache"…...But Amber you're pure soul and honesty is a gift not to be underestimated.Take care of yourselves and keep up your sincere authentic curiosity. When I look back at your early "reaction videos" it's so lovely to see how this project has imbued you with confidence and beauty.Much appreciated ,lots of love from Marti ( a sixty year old Irish sentimental mush💕)
Love this ,chills , think you guys wld love “Daffodil lament” ,Dolores details being stuck in a relationship she can no longer tolerate and her voice reflects that situation through her deciding to leave and ends with a complete transition to an almost celebratory vocal as she begins new chapter invigorated , her emotion changes to reflect each phase ,stunning arrangement.😊
Thank you guys so much for reacting to The Crannberries. Dolores' voice was so angelic, calming, pure, and powerful. Her voice is missed in the world of music
The more I hear the Cranberries, the more I love them. I love your channel because I get to hear songs that I haven't heard before along with songs that I am familiar with and get to see you discover them for the first time. Part of my enjoyment also comes from looking up information for the recordings you react to. When I used to buy records, I always poured over the liner notes to see who was involved in making the record. Today I learned that the producer of this record was Bruce Fairbairn and that some of album was recorded at Armoury studios located in my home Province of BC, Canada. Bruce produced albums for a lot of bands that I enjoy, employing some of the local musicians on the recordings. Cheers and keep on smiling. 😎
RIP Dolores. Her passing has touched many of us. Crazy that someone you've never met can have such an effect on you. For a next The Cranberries reaction I recommend “Ode to My Family”. It still is an emotional song but with a comforting, warm feeling.
The lyric "and I miss you, when you're gone" makes you want to cry, and just when you successfully hold back the tears, her voice pushes them out. I think this is my favorite Cranberries song now.
Lucky enough to see them in a small venue in 1997 in her home town of Limerick. Eats you up to think we will never hear this again. Herself and Sinead O'Connors ability to play with their voice is rare and lucky we can call them our own in Ireland. RIP to them.
Great reaction, love the emotion. You never stop missing loved ones, my dad died when I was 6, my mom when I was 23, brother when I was 21, sister at 37, and another Sister just a few years ago, I’m now 62 and miss them all terribly
J, good observation about the pause you hear in the lyrics. It's said that what makes "blues" is the quiet between the notes. It's why B.B. is the king. No shredding, just emotion. You really should listen to "Ode to my Family" by the Cranberries.
Dolores was so incredible. We were lucky that we had her and the entire band was great, too. Another amazing female artist is Natalie Merchant. She was with the band 10,000 Maniacs, but has a stellar solo career. If you want something heavy but important, I recommend "What's the Matter Here." This version is amazing: ua-cam.com/video/SBNDkZN_zr8/v-deo.html. She is an amazing storyteller. I also would recommend: Life is Sweet, Carnival, Down By the Levee, and My Skin
I expect this will shortly be corrected, but The Zombies are a band, too! LOL. Dolores is incredible. She is an Irish superstar on par with Enya's success. RIP, amazing Dolores.
I was brought up by an Irish mother and Scottish Father. I heard old Irish music at home, but 4 of my favorite musical artists from Ireland were the Cranberries, U2, Sinead O'Connor, and the Pauges. I love your reactions to this brilliant band and lady, I took my daughter to see the cranberries in Birmingham UK in about 93. My daughter was around 13 yo. My daughter "came out" around four years later. She told me many years later what a strange feeling she had about fancying Delores knowing that I did too. This is not a creepy story just a funny memory. And we still laugh about it. Long live the cranberries. And please keep up the good work. One of my favorite things about this one is the nod to doo-wop. So unexpected from them on the surface, but perfectly blended with the unmistakeable Cranberries sound.

Thank for your honest reaction guys, i like your tandem. Dolores is one of a kind in the music industry. I try to listen to this song bcoz im not familiar of this song ive just heard from a cover by franz rythm family band. As if i was listening to a young Dolores bcoz the kid give justice to the song and she did it perfectly, very refreshing. But my favorite of all is the zombie which is also beautifully covered by this family band. The legacy of Dolores lives as long as somebody still sing or play her songs.God bless us all.
You could see the moment when the pain in this song hit Amber's heart (6:17) and broke it in two. Such a pure and genuine reaction. That's why this is the best reaction channel on UA-cam!
Yes. Dolores’s voice has emotional Intensity and purity. Sinead O’Connor also has that Irish keening ability and similarly packs an emotional punch. Both brilliant Irish vocalists!

Not The Zombies. It's The Cranberries. "When You're Gone" peaked @ #22 (debuted in Nov. '96 - peaking in early ' 97). As of 2006, The Cranberries charted 8 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 with 5 in the Top 40-- only 1 in the Top 10 "Linger" @ #8. Love that you notice how unique her voice was. We are lost without more of her dialect and Irish yodel. They were working on a new album when she died. So heartbreaking to not know what that would’ve given us. ❤
Oh Dolores! What a voice. She's missed for sure. You would enjoy her cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way" if you haven't seen that. It's just her in a studio with a couple of guitars, so you really only hear her voice and see her singing. It is amazing.
They played this Delores's funeral. Broke my heart when she passed
Yea a big love in my life used to love this song, and He died recently, the thing I hate most is I have only one pic of him
This song touched my heart and when she died it broke my heart. She was such a breath of fresh air listening to her sweet voice.
She was an angel. 😢

The Irish have a special gift. They truly are blessed in the vocal department.

A voice and music that will live beyond us. So special and understated that the known will fall to Cranberries longevity it will carry.
She had a real Irish lilt to her voice that spoke of old Celtic rhythms. Beautiful.
Ughhhhhh The Cranberries murder my soul. I just love all of their music. This song is so hauntingly beautiful.
Dang, when I saw you tearing up that really hit this old man.
*ALL PRAISE DOLORES!!!*
