One of the characteristics of depression is self degradation. You sell yourself short. You have an excellent reputation on UA-cam. You are mentioned and promoted from many content creators. You are one of the very few, and I mean FEW, creators who's reviews are honest and thorough, as are reviews from Ryan Fortnine and Shadetree Surgeon. None of the love fest that you get from manufacturer sponsored new model event reviews. You are the foremost content creator in the ADV and Dual sport UA-cam world. I for one, really appreciate what you do. ( more of it would be nice)and it has renewed my love of off road riding that I have been away from for many, many years. Keep up the GREAT work Tyler! I hope to meet you in the next year or two as a bucket list event before my health goes further south. Great review!!! Loved it!!
More like major youtube channel. Tayler is as famous to me as Brad Pitt but, only more genuine. Right there with Ryan and Bret. Don't put yourself down.
I was really impressed with this bike. Not because it's perfect or a KTM killer or something, but because it shattered my expectations. Before riding it, I was seeing pictures of it online and was basically thinking "yup, this is going to be typical China; all bling and nothing where it counts." But it turns out after riding it, the bike seems to have it where it counts and just cuts costs on aesthetic details and plastics. This review mentioned my major complaints of the bike, which are the key which turns itself off, the clutch which gets a little unhappy with heat, and the way the EFI can't figure out what to do after a rear brake stall-and-restart where you have to turn it off and turn it back on again to get it out of that strange limp mode. The key could be relocated or replaced with a switch, and I bet there is a clutch pack out there with friction disc compound that doesn't swell as bad. The rear brake stall and restart bog issue might be a challenge to fix, but with everything else on the bike being so reasonable for the price, I am still interested in getting one of these. Can't quite afford it right now, but when I can I bet we will be seeing this bike on the podium of the next endurance series, hehehe
Thanks for helping me test this bike, Gabe! I had to get a second (and third) opinion on it because I just couldn't believe a bike this cheap could be decent. If Gabe says its good, then I can rest easy!
Gary of gpx is supposedly working on getting a richer tune to help with a few issues people have had with stalling. This might help with your noted issue... It might not. But great to see you guys beat it up and come away with generally positive opinions. TSE next!
Just clicked on this, haven't watched it yet. But I'm so glad to see this video from you on this bike. I've wondered about these CRFX knockoffs for a few years now. On paper they seem promising but I've never seen a real review of one. Only video of people that bought them and say great things. And you know how that is, "this thing I spent my money thats mine now is great and I love it". Anyways thanks for being awesome, now time to watch.
@@SamCyanide i have one of the bennelli tnt 125's and ive road both the grom and that. its just as good as the grom and £1500 cheaper so hands down the bennelli
I never even knew this bike existed until now. I just bought a KTM 1290R Super adventure 3 weeks ago. Heck I could've bought 4 of these and invited my buddies to ride with too!
With Tyler’s calm demeanor and ability to articulate a reasonable perspective, I think he should invite China’s President Xi on an adventure. I am sure he could “moto-mediate” improved human rights and a better trade deal.
@@eveRide Please try and get your hands on the FSE 450R for a test ....could be the happy medium between the CRF450X and the DRZ400E, ether way I would love to hear your take on it.
@@iallso1 Ian, with all due respect, instead of allowing China to steal our IP at least Trump is calling them on the carpet for what they've been doing for decades and extracting some concessions. But this is not the forum for political discourse, so I'll leave it there.
THAT'S what I come to this channel for. A straight up fact filled review with honest opinions labelled as such! Also phenomenal scenery and cinematography has me stoked for my future time in the desert southwest. Well done young man! This feels like sitting in the garage after a ride with a buddy, shooting the breeze. Perfect.
Im really willing to give these Chinese bikes a chance but not at the same price as the Japanese ones. me being a guy that likes to buy and resell and change bikes frequently, I think the resell value of these type of bikes arnt there. I could see getting 1 at the 3500 mark but 5000 is just too close to proven bikes. Great video and thank you for the review.
Gabba Shanking that’s the cost of R&D. That’s why KTM and others are so costly. No manufacturer can release a new bike with quality components and newest tech for less. Not having those things is what kept bikes like the KLR and keeps the DR650, XR650, and DRZ so (relatively) cheap.
As an owner of this exact bike I was blown away that you nailed every single little thing that all of us owners talk about. None of it is a deal breaker, but stuff like the kickstarter not really being useful is definitely the trade off of paying about half the price of a "brand name" bike. So glad you have it a chance. They get even better after you let a suspension shop do some basic things along with installing a big bore kit.
I love this channel, always straight forward and honest! Btw you’re more than “a tiny UA-cam channel” You provide quality content, and a lot of people listen to what you have to say. You motivate others, and also bring new comers to the sport.
Hands down the best review opinions out there. You are fair, honest and compare bikes in real world situations. Don't think that you are any lower than other reviewers. I will pay attention to your viewpoint over others like cycle world.
I love your Channel. I had a hawk 250 that I bought new after being inspired by motocheez and as a 51 year old man I had a blast on it I did eventually sell it and buy a dr650 because I just needed a little more power but for the price I was very happy with it too
Man i havent been in the motorcycle realm for a while and I swear the vibe of you has stayed the same and keep me loving this community even if i still havent riden a moto
Really should do a review on the RPS Hawk 250. They just released a fuel injected version the DLX. I love my Hawk. It's been a very good bike for a brand new price of $1500.
I have a 2018 hawk carbureted and is ok bike on trails after putting about another 1000 plus dollars in upgrades to handle the rocky mountains. But even still I cannot ride it hard like my old yz it would surely break.
Tyler Im glad I decided to become a producer! You are a Rad guy and tons of people are drawn to you, truly we all feel like we are not the only middle aged men with issues that are friends with a Rad guy that shares the same experiences of life and living rather than being someone we aren't to get "click bait" and for that, I am grateful I follow you, and glad that you are my therapy on the dirt and your voice is very therapeutic knowing that I would lose my crap whenever things broke including my bones. I'm grateful you are a Gentletuber & grateful you are part of my family. God Bless you and your family your brother in St. Jeezy & the Gospel !!!
I have a feeling this review is going to ruffle some feathers, so here are several facts to help you find potential biases and make an informed decision of your own: - Here is the GPX Website: gpxmoto.com/?tracking=5da746bbdd28f - This review was not sponsored in any way. No compensation or benefit was provided, other than the use of the motorcycle. The agreement was that we could use the motorcycle for our trip and that I would do a review, with a statement beforehand that the review would be honest and document every problem or failure. After I rode the bike and created this review, I wanted to become an affiliate for GPX motorcycles because I believe they are a great value. The link above is an affiliate link. - We rode this motorcycle an estimated 1400 miles. - Over the course of the review I was in contact with Gary G, the head honcho of GPX motorcycles. We discussed the key placement, skidplate, blinker, hand guards, and seat, and I suggested improvements. Besides discussing the motorcycle, we also talked about the possibility of importing motorcycle clothing and the possibility of renting or demoing GPX motorcycles to riders who come to Weekender Rallies. - After riding the FSE 250R I became interested in becoming an affiliate for GPX and signed up as an "ambassador" on their site. I was truly impressed with the motorcycle, especially at the price point. I wouldn't be interested in selling them or risking my reputation if I didn't truly believe in this motorcycle and the potential of GPX as a company. - GPX and Pitster Pro are located in Lindon, Utah, 270 miles north of where I live in St. George. - The motorcycle was provided brand new. We never changed the oil or anything else on the motorcycle other than the clutch lever, which broke on the final day of "adventorture", and the missing bolt from the cable holder. The clutch lever was replaced with a standard DRZ400 clutch lever with the brass spacer knocked out. - The rear left blinker came loose during the first day of riding. I tightened it back up, but it later came off. I'm not sure if it broke off with a tipover, a luggage adjustment, or if it just fell off. - We were unable to start the motorcycle with the kick starter. The footpeg seems to block the full stroke of the kick starter. - As with anything on the internet, there will be a ton of opinions from people without any actual experience on the bike. If you get a chance, ride one for yourself before you listen to my (or anybody else's) opinion. - Different motorcycles are better for different things. I use my dual sports mainly for riding in dirt. In my opinion, the GPX FSE 250R is better off road than any other dual sport motorcycle in its price range, but not as smooth/comfortable on the road. There are a ton of factors in choosing a motorcycle, though. Seat height, on-road performance, aftermarket availability, etc should all be considered when choosing your ideal motorcycle.
This is an insanely good narrative. I'm not even a motorcycle dude but I've been watching a bunch of product review videos because I'd like to supplement my channels content with relevant product reviews. Excellent b-roll and dry humor my dude!
Bill Cotton, the funniest thing is that the bike did everything he asked of it, even though he didn’t do the basic setup like suspension preload, and the RX3 costs less than the mods he did to many of the other bikes he reviews before he reviews them, and he basically trashed it as his conclusion.
The ‘odd’ thing about his intro here is that, after the feedback from his initial review of the RX3, he admitted he never wanted to review it, and that he let that color his review. But, suddenly, he’s acting as though that admission never happened, and he was somehow ‘wronged’ by the feedback he received.
Richard Hadfield,no, it sounds like you’re the sort to jump to random, unsupported conclusions about people you’ve never met, based on nothing more than the fevered imaginings in whatever passes for your mind. (As evidenced by the post you made, and to which I am responding.) I’m simply familiar with the original ‘review’ video, the follow up video, the video by the guy who bought the bike from him, and the other events I mentioned in my posts.
@@fibercycles6982 Actually he did a second video where he basically said besides the easily scratched paint the bike did everything they asked of it without complaint, he just didn't like it. But let's be honest what experienced rider would? It's a 250cc with a street oriented suspension designed really for scenic routes, and dirt roads. Cheap adventure, and according to all the owners it does all that well. As for if it's garbage there is a growing cult of RX3 owners exceeding 100,000 miles...but they probably aren't taking them off any sweet jumps, where they get like 3 feet of air.
Slim Jim, yep. It had precisely *zero* of the issues he excused on this bike, but he hated it. He doesn’t seem to grasp the difference between ‘adventure’ bikes and ‘dual sport’ or ‘enduro’ bikes, do he bashes a bike that was never intended for single-track riding, for being a bit uncomfortable while riding gnarly single track. But given a dual-sport bike that costs about $2k *more* he excuses losing parts, and the bike turning itself off, and says he loves that bike, apparently on the basis of having good suspension, and not much else.
Keep up the good and honest reviews. These bikes are now being sold in Brazil by a local dealer under a new brand called MXF. Although right here they can't be registered as a dual sport, these bikes are filling the gap between crf 230F (3k) and Ktms (10k)...they've even brought a 2 smoker version, based on the Yamaha WR 200 engine, which is pretty interesting...You should check that out...MXF 250 RX (4t) and MXF 250 TS(2t)
All lower end 250cc and smaller Japanese bikes aren't Japanese anyway. In fact, even many bigger engines and flagship race engines aren't made in Japan. Hyosung and Kymco make many "Japanese" engines. And it's been that way for over a decade.
Correct me if i'm wrong, as far as i know, GPX motorcycles is a Thai brand. GP Motor Company started out in 2007 as ATV Panter Co. Ltd as an importer of Atv and dual sports motorcycles, since then they grow and expands, they now produce their own motorcycles and renamed the company GP Motor Thailand. I am currently living and working in Thailand. Thanks!! 😀👌
Absolutely spot on Tyler! I have the FSE250R and the TSE250R. When I come down there next year I'll let ya try out the TSE and see what you think with the different suspension setup
I've been needing a new Everide vid. Took me way to long to get to this one. Sprained my MCL in the Wyoming Badlands a week and a half ago on the XR650R when I hit a bit of ice. Home from work sick today so I finally got to watch it since I'm not at school, work, or out riding. I hope to make it down to St. George this winter to do a bit of riding. One thing I had to mention is I LOVE white plastics. Clean with a Mr. Clean magic eraser and they'll clean up as good as new (minus the high gloss shine). Keep up the good work Tyler. You're the reason I sold my Raptor 700 and now own a street legal XR650R.
This was a fantastic review. I am glad you had a mostly positive experience on this bike. It is one i have been looking at for many years. I am glad to hear about the power as well. Specifically since there are big bore kits for this engine. The most popular being the 300cc. One day i would love for you to give the Orion RXB-250L a try. The dirt only version has been getting good reviews on Thumper talk for a while now. There are even supermoto rims straight from Orion as well.
Awesome review. Have you ever thought of reviewing the SWM motorcycles? They are made in the husqvarna factory before husky was sold to KTM. The lead engineer/designer from those husqvarna makes the SWM. It would be neat to see how this compares to that.
I appreciated the brutally honest review of the CSC RX3. It's substandard, but of you are handy in the shop, you can bolster the weak points and make that cheap little bike work fairly well.. If CSC owners can't handle the truth of your experience, they are putting their heads in the sand or simply had different and better experience with their RX3's.
Wow, I'm actually pretty impressed. I had pretty much 0 hope for this bike, but I'm glad to hear that it's decent! We nee more competition in the space to force the big guys to move on or move over. Could this lead to a fuel injected 6 gear DRZ? I hope so!
For those that are interested, I messaged GPX, the 250r has 2000 mile oil change intervals, and 3000mile valve checks, their bike has over 10,000 miles and the valves were still in spec. The 450r releases spring 2020, same intervals as the 250, their test bike has over 3000miles and the valves are still 100% in spec. The motor is solid: 250 puts out 25.4hp, with 16.9 ft-lbs. the 450 uses the Zongshen NC450 motor which puts out 43hp stock, and has a claimed top speed of about 100mph. UPDATE: I now own and ride the 450 and it’s pretty dope. It’s pretty much a crf450L in terms of performance but less $$$. And no engine troubles, yet.
...and when the suspension needs seals, rebuilding let alone modification? Hmm, this could be a good starter DualSport for an ez going rider! In any case, thanks so much for all you do!
Seems like a good beginner bike for a new dirt rider. Decent performance at 1/2 the price of the Euros. Much easier pill to swallow for the price conscious, and for people just starting out. I hope it is as good, for its intended purpose, as a KDX200. This sport needs a good entry level bike at a reasonable price-point that is better in the dirt than the CRF 250, DR 200, XT225 etc. The license is an added bonus. Thanks for your reasonable review.
Hay mate Paul from the Land of Aus , I owned a Chinese 250 some years back and it was a peace of crap . But yes they have come along way with steeling other manufacturers probably and coping it . You need to test the SWM 500 RS an Italian made bike ( that was originally the Husky TE 510 ) built in the same factory- before KTM brought Husky out and closed the factory down . The 500 in the US would be around that 6000 mark . They are Italian built with some Chinese parts ( like the plastics ) to keep prices down . A fantastic bike .
I have a 2012 Husky te310r. Has basically all the features of a new KTM or Husky at 1/4 the price. Got it for $2,900 with 600 miles on it. :) Yes i am bragging lol.
I'd love to buy one of these bikes but after they've been in the market for 5+ years, so I know about parts, reliability and depreciation. Hondas from the 80's to 00's are still for sale where I live, which shows that they are very reliable. Asking for 5 years after comparing to Honda doesn't seem that too much of an ask.
Great review and excellent content as always! This definitely changed my perspective on Chinese made bikes. Even if it's a shameless piece of stolen intellectual property, it's good to see a manufacturer putting pressure on the lackadaisical Japanese off-road/dual sport market, albeit in a small way. Oh, and great to see my guy Gabe doing what he does best!
Tyler: Great review. I know you are unbiased and honest. I own 3 KTMs, purchased all used from 2006 to 2013. They are great bikes. But I would not hesitate to purchase this 250. The Chinese are making great strides in quality. Politics aside most of us look for bang for the buck, customer satisfaction reliability as well as ease of getting parts. Thanks for the great review.
Late last year I purchased the FSE250R's little brother the Pitster Pro XTR250 to get back into off-road riding. I didn't know what to expect for its $2600 delivered price, except I had a new dirt bike that I wouldn't cry over beating up. Well the bike as been a tank, tough and reliable, holding up to everything I've put it through. The XTR250 helped me get get my off-road chops back and is fun to ride if I'm not pushing it. Unfortunately I am out riding the bike now and am ready for an upgrade. I'm over 50 and not interested in racing just having fun and improving my riding. Honestly, I can't see any reason not to stay with GPX\Pitster Pro for my next bike. Like eveRide said; there's nothing in the class that's competition for the GPX and I have no need to spend $8, $9 or $10+K on a dirt bike. My big decision will be whether I get the 4 stroke FSE250R or the 2 stroke TSE250R.... :)
Wow! Bold statement at the end Tyler! Great spot on review. I own a GPX TSE250r and hope you do a review on that as well, but honestly if I knew about this bike when I bought my DRZ, I probably would have bought this bike instead. I was hoping Gary would let me rent one for my December rally so we’ll see!
Jon Smith Have you ridden one? You know most of the stuff you ride and drive and are probably typing on are made in China right? I think the bike stereotype is well earned, but these bikes a different cut, so I wouldn’t prejudge until you actually rode one.
Got a 2017 WR250R in a storage auction unit last month . Have to do the DMV on it and maybe a mechanic's lien in it to make it official . Checked the paperwork found in the unit and with the FMF Q4 exhaust upgrade and EFI Module it cost 8,672 plus tax and this and that . That's about 10,000 in 2017 . It had the key and started first turn . Love the sound . Hope I can keep it without getting screwed out my 2,300 invested in it already . Things like this happen when guys cheat on their wives and forget that their motorcycle is in a locker in her name . Don't cheat on anyone anytime , it's not worth it .
When Zach and Ari left motorcyclist magazine, why did we get stuck with that dorky blunt bad haired guy, when there are folks like Tyler who present information so dang well. I wish you were their new guy for mc commute (and still able to do this channel as well)
😂😂😂 I'm guessing that you mean Adam Waheed. He has been around for a while. I remember seeing him on Motorcycle USA before they stopped posting videos. I don't think guys like Tyler would be willing to have their content influenced by the interests of vendors and advertisers. I feel like we are fortunate that guys like Tyler have a platform where they can share their stuff. I know what you're saying but I'm just grateful there is a place for people like eveRide here too!
I love fair, hard, and comprehensive reviews. For one thing, no one will improve a product or type of product if no one calls them out. Thanks for this.
All of a sudden I want a GPX FSE250R. The key location is the single issue that would prevent me from buying it. If they relocate it to the handlebars this bike would be a top choice (imo) for dual sport riders wanting to hit mostly dirt without paying the European prices or modding our Japanese bikes to accommodate off road conditions more like a dirt bike would. GPX for the win
I have the CSC TT250 and I do honestly like it. It was a cheap bike to get into trail riding. Where I live in Ohio we don't have very crazy trails but this bike does work well for what I can access off hand. I don't plan on keeping this bike forever, but it was a good bike to start off with to find out if I even would enjoy hitting trails.
Love your honest reviews. Sounds like a good piece of kit! Scary when the bash plate comes off though! They are a little more vicious than running over a rock. Haha
Thanks Tyler. Your consistency in being the person you are over the last five years that I have followed & your informative ways, is still for me enlightening. Cheers from the North. YEG
I was caught in between when looking for a dual sport bike. I wanted to avoid the KLX 250, CRF 250L as i wasn't a fan of their weight and lack of suspension or power. With that, I also didn't want to have $6-7k+ into a DRZ 400, Husky or KTM. I found a great deal on a 2012 Husqvarna TE310r. Has fuel injection, hydraulic clutch, brembo brakes with braking rotors and even Excel rims and it RIPS. Got it with 600 miles for $2,900 with a hitch carrier, fender eliminator kit and lowering linkage all included. So happy i bought it and could probably turn around, sell it and make money in the process. I think it would be cool to see a video about some lesser known bikes (like the FSE 250) out there you can pick up for a good deal.
Wow. Those are some bold words you ended with. GPX must have stepped up their game with this one, or found the right formula for knockoffs or both. I owned and wrenched on a 2009 Pitster Pro LXT 160R Enduro that I bought brand new, and only was able to put 200 miles on it over 10 years because it was always broken and/or not running right. I just sold it, and vowed to never buy a chinese bike again. But when it did run, man it was a blast. The performance was all there - hitting 70mph with only 160cc, inverted forks, fully adjustable suspension, billet goodies. This was an interesting, yet enjoyable video to watch. Kind of seems like a gamble that you hit the jackpot on with this bike!
Any update on this bike, my self-judging gentletuber friend? I hope you get over whatever inner blaming and doubting you're going through, and post some news on this bike! Be well!
Really enjoy this newer format. With you talking into the camera, as opposed to a voice over, or straight up bike vlog. Keep this format up. You have a great 'video presence'. Looking forward to riding with you again. Much love.
the thing with chinese companies, it is a hit or miss. Some are legit and they truly value their customers and make quality parts and components. I believe GPX is one of those companies, same with CFMoto. There are a few out there, but sadly most Chinese companies are all about profit and make motor sports with the cheapest parts available. But the few that care about their product, it is solid! Probably even more than the big brands! great review everide! a GPX is on my list down the road just to see how it performs!
Pretty sure I've commented similar to this on other video's you've produced - you are the most "real" guy on youtube. Relevant, clear, honest. Great review, thank you!
Great review and video's. I've already got too much stuff that say's made in China on it. For now my money will go to the people actually doing the R&D. Keep making this great videos
I wish ktm(1/2 owned by Indian company) would stop buying all the euro brands. Beta even uses some of their engines. Still far better than 100% Chinese built.
This article comes at a perfect time. I just saw a 2022 model and really looked it. Test drive yet to come. But it’s now at the top of the list to test ride. Thanks
I am contemplating getting back into mountain trail riding aftera 40 year hiatus. My first goal was to get the best suspension possible and than mean adjustability. IN the Kawi line you have to get up to the KLX 300 to get an adgustable suspension and that $5400. I am aslo awary from my last dirt bike expeiences with 70s vintage 2 stroke (pre power vavle) that if there is anything about a bike that can get you in trouble really fast is the throttle, so I really didn't want this first ride to have too much power It set a budget of $5000 for the bike and what ever gear I might need. GPX was th eonly thing out there close to my bedget that had the adjustable suspension components. The FSE 250E has the weaker 250 cc air-head engine. Not as strong as the R model but with some sprocket changes it could provide plenty of grunt for the trails I will ride and even some practicing at some of the hard endure moves I would want practice. The 250E has the same frame as the FSE and TSE R models. at a price of $3500. If I wanted to FSE and TSE R model engines could be added to the E model at a later date. SO there is a viable upgrade path from the E model. to the strong R model engines. SO, I will probably roll the dice on the FSE 250 E here in the next few weeks and be posting my experiences.
This is the BEST HONEST review I've viewed, ever! Too many manipulated, fanboys doing reviews of bikes sponsored by the big boys! Thank you or the beautiful videos and scenery! Sadly, import taxes will make this motorcycle (and many others) unaffordable in Thailand.
Great review as always! Looking forward to you reviewing the SWMs. I was looking at the GPX website and didn’t see a street legal version of this bike.
Try a Royal Enfield Himalayan. Fantastic bike, very reliable, cheap to buy and run, and more importantly a great ADV. See the huge mileage of those that have or are still taking them around the World on their UA-cam channels.
That's not bad considering my KTM 690 Enduro r heat shield bolt came out and the Reflector by the exhaust started to melt. And it's a hell of a lot more expensive than that bike.
@@motoreapersracing6729 The transmission is crazy overbuilt for the power output. Never had a reported failure and I personally don't see one happening without a major manufacturing failure. The clutch is almost identical to the XR650.
I actually love my GPX FSE 450R so much I'm searching for a FSE 250R for buddies to use and even to run around for myself for some of my more technical hardcore enduro type stuff. I've rode the 250 and my 450 and the 250 is much more at home in single track and hard enduro I believe just due to the weight reduction and some lower COG due to engine design. I can tell anyone looking at GPX that I've had an amazing experience with mine. Crossing in 2k miles hard rode in AZ dropped plenty and it's been pretty flawless following flashing a tune. Love the bike. Best part is Gary the owner of GPX is out of Utah and parts get shipped within a week to your door usually. He cares about the brand. He watches the groups for our comments and concerns. He actively makes updates and helps owners. Furthermore the new GPX models come with a parts warranty and support. So long you can be your own mechanic its the bike for you.
Ok CRF250L owner triggered lol the CRF is very very capable off road !! Check out MVDBR enduro on UA-cam just saying anyway hello from Australia cool vids mate 👍
@@paulbro9377 dude I did some, of what I thought, shitty customisations to mine and instantly had people trying to buy it off me. All I did was add a wind screen I made from scrap Plexi and paint the fairings with leftover spray paint. 😁 But I'll never sell her. And good luck finding a used one. Their that great!
@@oknevals well good luck finding a used crf250. Cause there are very few every posted. Mostly because for the price why would you bother selling it. Even if you don't pay for registration and insurance you can still off-road on it.
Problems typical of most Chinese bikes on the market today. Frame and engine are solid for the most part. It ia usually the small parts, bolts, and eletrical equipment that falls apart or gives the most issues, and often requires a little re-engineering by the owner.
I don't know where this is assembled but GPX is a Thai brand. Thailand is home to Honda where they assemble all their sub 1000cc bikes there. Ducati's only assembly plant outside of Italy is also in Thailand.
Funny, every dirt bike is shipped to be assembled. When we get a bike from a dealer. We tear it back down and reassemble before we race. Because we dont know how much attention was given. Still bolts do back out, and stopped using a skid plate cause they fall off or loose bolts and pick up mud and extra weight. So great review and some of the issues are par for a dirt bike, let alone a dual sport. Awesome review
As a long time owner of a WR250R, who has had great success with it after expensive mods, I am looking for a new ride. While I don't think that your review showed me a real option because I want an upgrade and an easier path this time. What is does show is how vulnerable the Japanese manufactures have made themselves in this market. Parts bin engineering, decades or more between product cycles, and the resulting poorly suspended overweight models aren't going to cut it anymore. KTM took the market and boosted it forward 20 years on the dirt performance side. I'm actually glad that the clones are taking the cake of the Japanese manufactures on the small displacement ADV side. They need to step it up or make room.
With what China is doing to the freedom fighters in Hong Kong, I have started to avoid products made by the communists as much as possible. Bought a used klx250s for the wife instead.
Totally with you but how many parts on your Japanese or EU bike are made in China? Just today I was changing the oil in my 2017 Ford truck and I think most of the parts come from Asia or Mexico. So does it matter if even "US built" or EU or Japanese products are mostly manufactured in low labor areas of the world. My biggest concern is becoming so dependent on one country for so much. Not to toss in politics but this may be the only good thing that comes from the trade war is we try diversity in manufacturing.
Yes, have to agree with you that so many of the things we buy today come from other countries, but after seeing what China is doing to the people of Hong Kong and to anyone who doesn't conform to the communist government (such as religious thought), I put a little more thought and research into what I buy now. If I see made in China, I put it down and walk away because I value freedom so much. China motorcycles ......just can't do it.
@@mollyandbofreedom was never free( or a good deal) It just hurts to see this price and not jump on it. Seriously I think I might hold off on getting this bike because of the Chinese government practices with Hong Kong and Uyghurs people. Owell good conversation but it is the end of a long night working the ER so goodnight or day.
Hello Mollyandbo. Respect that you want to make ethical purchases. I'm not going to buy a Harley or a Jeep because of the way the Trump administration put Mexican kids in concentration camps (correct term, reference the Boer war) and because of the way they sold out the Kurds to Erdogan of whatever that Turkish dictator is called.
Great review 👍 this was really helpful in broadening my list of bikes to try out before I pick an adv bike. Seriously dude, thank you so much for taking the time to make this. I always enjoy the facts and recaps of the brutal testing you and your friends put these bikes through.
2:43 - Looks like a Devol Racing skid plate on your "clapped out" DRZ. I have the same skidplate on my 2002 DRZ - I bought it because it provided much better protection of the lower frame right behind the foot pegs. Other skid plate had a much narrower shape and left that portion of the frame exposed.
Nice review man. There are too many paid reviews or people wary of upsetting someone on here. I love your honesty, you always come across as such a humble, down to earth guy. Keep it up.
Another great unbiased review! Thank you. Now that the door is open, I would love to see you review the 2-stroke model and give a comparison to this one. I know its out of character not being a dual sport, but your videos are the best!
Finally one who can pronounce Husqvarna correctly 😁👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Really appreciate your review of the gpx. I ride another manufacturer but might look in to this one for a alternative Dual Sport 👍🏻👍🏻

@@thomassteele1728I bet parts of your car are made in China. Like the speakers. It is nearly impossible to own things on this planet without some of it being made in China. You'd practically have to make everything yourself.
@@waynes.2983 I'm cool with it. I dont have the ability to dislike a manufacturer based on their political standings. The Chinese govt is a beech no doubt. I'd never visit I dont think. But if they make good things as they do, phones, speakers etc then I'm down to own those things that I need or want. Especially if it's cheaper than the competition and works as good or better. If I had a choice between a chineese AK or an american AK at the same price point. Let's go chineese.
Exceptional review. I saw the prior CSC review and thought it was fair. When you listen to Tyler, you feel like you're getting it straight. As an aside, I was super excited about the GPX until he mentioned seat height at 37"...my inseam is 29". It's frustrating being relegated to Honda Monkeys :(
One of the characteristics of depression is self degradation. Loved it!!

Yeah, definitely not a "minor" youtube channel, but that attitude is a big part of why we all like the guy.
More like major youtube channel. Tayler is as famous to me as Brad Pitt but, only more genuine. Right there with Ryan and Bret. Don't put yourself down.

If you pay full price for a product mate you can say what ever you like about it
I was really impressed with this bike.
Will you be doing a video of the bike?
Thanks for helping me test this bike, Gabe! I had to get a second (and third) opinion on it because I just couldn't believe a bike this cheap could be decent. If Gabe says its good, then I can rest easy!
I sense a torture test video on the way, I’ll be looking for it!
So if you had to choose between this and your old kdx200 (pre blowup) as your only ride, what would be your pick?
Gary of gpx is supposedly working on getting a richer tune to help with a few issues people have had with stalling. This might help with your noted issue... It might not. But great to see you guys beat it up and come away with generally positive opinions. TSE next!
Just clicked on this, haven't watched it yet. But I'm so glad to see this video from you on this bike. I've wondered about these CRFX knockoffs for a few years now. On paper they seem promising but I've never seen a real review of one. Only video of people that bought them and say great things. With Tyler’s calm demeanor and ability to articulate a reasonable perspective, I think he should invite China’s President Xi on an adventure. I am sure he could “moto-mediate” improved human rights and a better trade deal.

It is so rare to find honest reviews of motorcycles, normally every bike is almost perfect, which really isn't helpful to buyers new to motorcycling .
This is exactly what I would have posted.
You don't resale Chinese bikes. They are used as landfill

@@jasonbarton7189 except they are 10k+
Seems like the key being where it is would be a deal breaker, guessing it really isn't that big of a deal?
@@itisfinished4U I've never been able to get mine to shut off so no, not a big deal. I actually like it not being on the triple tree.

I have a feeling this review is going to ruffle some feathers, so here are several facts to help you find potential biases and make an informed decision of your own:
- Here is the GPX Website: gpxmoto.com/?tracking=5da746bbdd28f
- This review was not sponsored in any way.
The funniest thing about your CSC review was that it was mostly positive.
(As evidenced by the post you made, and to which I am responding.)
I’m simply familiar with the original ‘review’ video, the follow up video, the video by the guy who bought the bike from him, and the other events I mentioned in my posts.
Tyler this review was something that changed my thinking about Chinese motorcycles! Impressive but those politics......
All lower end 250cc and smaller Japanese bikes aren't Japanese anyway. In fact, even many bigger engines and flagship race engines aren't made in Japan. Hyosung and Kymco make many "Japanese" engines. And it's been that way for over a decade.
The politics are complex, but I leave rose to the politicians.
You got an Instagram? If so what is it, I'm interested on how these are doing.
Great review Tyler! Really appreciate your candid honesty which so many other channels lack. Keep up the good work!
I hope so!
We hope, all drz riders know it needs a 6 speed.
I owned a 2006 TE-510 for years & loved it; my only complaint was the close-ratio 6-speed transmission, which limited its use as a dual-sport bike.
Wallace Roberts it’s different now ( not as bad ) just the 300 has a close ratio gearbox as o have ridden both .
@@itsallabouttheridekeepingi4449 , I know; I bought a 2019 FE-450 & it has a very tall 6th gear, making it far more useful as a dual-sport bike.
Smooth, well spoken and so easy to listen to. Not to mention the great well edited footage.
I like your channel.
Don't get me wrong, I still absolutely love the DRZ! It's good to see that there's some new competition for it out there, though.
I'd take the old school drz any day over a Chinese bike

I have a 200cc Chinese dual sport. It's a cousin to the csc tt250 It's great for the price and my skill level.

Thanks
Thanks for the honest, albeit surprising, review.
I am contemplating getting back into mountain trail riding aftera 40 year hiatus. My first goal was to get the best suspension possible and than mean adjustability. IN the Kawi line you have to get up to the KLX 300 to get an adgustable suspension and that $5400. I am aslo awary from my last dirt bike expeiences with 70s vintage 2 stroke (pre power vavle) that if there is anything about a bike that can get you in trouble really fast is the throttle, so I really didn't want this first ride to have too much power
It set a budget of $5000 for the bike and what ever gear I might need.
I hope this will bring on a new dawn of invation or the a even lowering price fir new dual sport bikes
If the SWMs are as good as the 2008-10 Husqvarna they are going to be good...
KTM is like the Monster Energy of motorbikes, fast and awesome looking, but not much sustenance
What did you expect from a Kentucky Trash Machine?
Love my GPX. Spot on review. I never had issues with the key because I removed it on day 1! (Installed Acerbis 4 gallon tank)
Bro what's your Instagram?
lets see a long term review
Go to forums
If so like to see how much one goes secondary market damn probably like 50 cents sell me one damn lol
Yes! How long does the transmission last?
@@motoreapersracing6729 The transmission is crazy overbuilt for the power output. Never had a reported failure and I personally don't see one happening without a major manufacturing failure. The clutch is almost identical to the XR650.
timothy berry ... ‘Dual Sport’ Motorcycles are Not good investments...
Now aren't you glad I recommended this!! Great review. Hopefully your china-anxiety will go away now. :)
Well... didn't see that coming. Well done sir! Thanks Tyler for always Keeping it honest & real!
Ok CRF250L owner triggered lol the CRF is very very capable off road !! Check out MVDBR enduro on UA-cam just saying anyway hello from Australia cool vids mate 👍
Have you tried the Benelli TRK 502X..? Another Chinese adventure bike which is selling well in Europe.
For the price I think I would still rather get a CRF 250 or klx.
Absolutely. Not to mention resale value
I agree the CRF250F and KLX230R are excellent sub 5k bikes for the trails. Air Cooled and bullet proof. And resale value is awesome.
What resale value on motorcycle? :-) It is more about likelihood of anybody wanting it as second hand.
"The bike would shut itself off when things got rough" - that's a safety feature.
LOL
I don't know where this is assembled but GPX is a Thai brand. Thailand is home to Honda where they assemble all their sub 1000cc bikes there. Ducati's only assembly plant outside of Italy is also in Thailand.
nice man, i hope you do a review on the 450 too!
I always try to not buying a Chinese made product if it’s possible.
Yup, thanks for the conversation. Daughter works in the hospital so I know how you feel after your shift. Thanks for what you do!
I think, I have enough knowledge on Chinese Motorcycle. Therefore, I am not convinced for this bike. I will rather buy 2018/2019 WR250R for $5000.00.
Now when is torture test doing his review
He said he'd do a shred video with it and maybe even run a few races with one if possible. It would be awesome to see a full review from Gabe!
Yes it would
I saw the bike in the GPX warehouse yesterday. It's a little dirty, but seems to have held up pretty good.
Nice review man. There are too many paid reviews or people wary of upsetting someone on here. I love your honesty, you always come across as such a humble, down to earth guy. Keep it up.
Yeah, that political stuff, though. We already send them way too much of our money. Great review, though! Thanks for what you do.
Here in Brazil we have a bike like this. It comes on 2 models, the 4 stroke and 2stroke. If u want take a look at "MXF 250TS" and "MXF 250RX"
10:55 what a sagging chain!!
Thats how a chain should look like when the bike has no weight on it...
I don’t know how you don’t have 10 million subscribers. Amazing videos full of passion
No freedom in China. "YOU NO DISAGWEE WITH US!"
Chinese bike? NEVER.
Another great unbiased review! Thank you. Now that the door is open, I would love to see you review the 2-stroke model and give a comparison to this one. I know its out of character not being a dual sport, but your videos are the best!
I'd rather walk
@everide We need you to review the GPX FSE450R. Thank you for all that you do! We all love this channel!
The Chinese ripping off from others? Color me surprised...
Finally one who can pronounce Husqvarna correctly 😁👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Really appreciate your review of the gpx. I ride another manufacturer but might look in to this one for a alternative Dual Sport 👍🏻👍🏻
*NEVER* Never will I *EVER* buy a Chinese anything. NOPE. China is a shtthole.
I guarentee you own things made in China right now.
I like reliable things. But I think my civic is japanese...
