Certification means it meets the standards- is there any precedent for revoking approvals on gear that meets the standards? Seems like a massive lawsuit would result if they did that.
I thought the same as you but if you read the FCC documentation it's clear that the certification is done not only on a technical basis (bandwidth, power, spurious emissions etc) but also on the basis of national security so there is provision in the statutes to allow this. Crazy!
First responders act is worse that bans not only dji drones but anything for a drone from China meaning all Chinese electronics related to drones. It starts by charing us $100 on top of a 30% tariff for every part!
The FCC does not want to attempt to enforce this do they? They can’t possibly have the resources to attempt to track down DJi users even if the fines were profitable? Do they? Also, drones are so scary but we can still buy Chinese cell phones.
We still buy chinese everything because it is cheap. It’s illogical for the FCC to remove the certification anyway. The devices passed FCC certification, if they still pass certification and haven’t been caught doing anything to violate the law and regulations then how can they remove the certification? It makes no sense. Why remove a technical certification that the device still passes just because politicians don’t like China? Isn’t it strange that no evidence of any of these claims towards DJI have been released? It would be a very easy way to get the public on their side. No evidence from the government or third party security researchers. Why?
This just goes to show just how short sighted these politicians really are. What about all the other items made in China? Like ovens, clothes dryers, washing machines, refrigerators that are made in China and use wifi?

From my research DJI has licensed out an exact copy of the Mavic 3 i believe to Anzu Drones which would technically get around this ban. they are made in Malaysia and the company is based in Texas.
The difference is they have licensed the hardware. The software is all written by the Texas portion I believe. All they have to do if they have a legitimate reason to ban DJI drones is to release proof that DJI is doing what they claim they are or could be, that would turn most people over to their side. However they have released no proof and no third party security firm or security researcher has released any proof either. With how common these drones are now then surely a security researcher could buy one and check if it was doing anything dodgy. Very strange how there is no proof from anywhere that DJI drones are spying on people.
Hi Bruce, Great video and rant.I am not positive yet, but during the video I tried to launch my mini v1 with no luck. It asked if I would like to update my drone, so I said No ! I normally don't have any issues, but I do now. I'll try again tomorrow in a different area, I will let you know what happens. Thanks again for the video and information.
11:10 sounds like the Australian car industry... And then they all 'moved away' and we are still stuck with the laws etc that were set up ( means high prices and bad "Quality control" ).
at 8:00, saying we are push overs. I totally agree. I was one of the "100" so to speak that was screaming from the rooftops about COVID lock downs and business shut downs. It's like people want to be subjects of tyranny rather than responsible independent citizens with inalienable rights. I could get a lot of people to agree in conversation as they sit comfortably - but not many seem to want to DO anything. It's a tough situation.
Hey Bruce, I believe your analysis is spot on. The biggest question is, will people get off their backside and legally, peacefully do something about it? We will see.
The problem is the government has us so busy working to earn a living, we don't have time to attend protests. If we were on welfare and disability, then we'd have the time, but then we wouldn't want to bite the hand that was feeding us. They've got it figured out either way.
It's them Roman's that started it. You can see why Jesus had a go at the markets, knocking over tables. He could see 'the love of money' blinding the owners. And that has grown so big today, that the love for the money means, they just can't let it go. The 'hanging on' to the hugh reserves, is not letting it 'work' for everyone. Only for the owners to get richer. Prying cash out of their tight fists means their mental state is not to be humble and grow more businesses that employ people or give to charities to help the needy, rather it's like Scrooge McDuck, never wanting to spend a penny. The Roman system and taxation has done it's dash. It's now out of date.
I agree 100% it's about money because of it was about national security then phones TVs gaming systems and many other things would need to be banned too... And I couldn't agree more about the Amazon birds
Bruce.. love the passion keep it up… You may have forgot, that March regarding RID was during the “flatten the curve” BS during Covid.. travel restrictions
Good thing in New Zealand only drones over 25kg have to be registered. A DJI ban is unlikely here in NZ, the second highest diplomat, Premier Li Qiang , is currently visiting to strengthen trade ties between NZ and China. The free trade agreement is worth too much to ban Chinese products here!
Great video. I unfortunately purchased a DJI 4 months ago. Love the drone, just a hobby and I have never flown one before and it is really a lot of fun for me. Very disappointing that the US government is going down this road. I looked at several manufacturers before I made the purchase and DJI seems to have an amazing product for the price. iPhones that are made in China should be more of an issue considering how many are out there and the ability a smart phone has to collect an enormous amount of data. I realize Apple is not a Chinese company but still seems like it would be more of a concern. Really appreciate the information.
Very good breakdown of some of the inconsistancies. As a Canadian, it does look like an opportunity to start a tiny drone manufacturing business and refuse to ship to the USA.
Sadly people are money driven. I bet the majority that are against the DJI ban would flip for xx amount of money. What you need $10k? $100k? $1M? Name your price! Until the majority realize that character should not be sold, most of us will continue to live a declining standard of living. Plain and simple just like nature.
I can understand revoking the FCC certification for New DJI Drones... But my Drone was Certified when I bought it years ago. I can't see them not allowing older Already Certified DJI drones from flying. My Certified DJI drone doesn't have a "yearly" re-certification requirement.
So unless they grandfather those rigs that are already in service or pay for the devaluation of all drones that are banned then this is unconstitutional under the takings clause.
I'm based in Australia and I own a dji gimble and a dji drone and if I took that equipment to the USA I would not be able to use it. It would be illegal to use it.
I hadn’t heard anything about this potential ban. Odd that I’m learning of it from a kiwi on the other side of the planet and no one hear has been talking about it at all. It would be a crazy stupid law to pass. I was just shopping for security cameras and they are virtually all Chinese companies.
Funny that Rotor Riot got bought out by a defense contractor, then this bill gets slipped into the Defense Budget Act. This should be a standalone bill, not attached to something that will definitely be passed. Follow the money
The same thing as the FCC not certifying Baofeng ham radios to transmit on FRS or GMRS frequencies. They’re still cranking out these radios and people are still using them.
What will be the impact be in NZ? Other than they might shut down DJI if other countries follow like sheep. What are the chances of them tracking them down with a banned drone. Could they just stock up while they can?
My reading suggests it removes only the products that haven’t been previously approved as of February 2023. Meaning, new products from DJI. Not sure how that affects software and updates though.
there are so many non compliant devices transmitting which are used daily for many people and many different products from different brands because we buy a lot of devices from China etc... hard to control that.
On the other hand, America is, I dare say, the biggest purchaser of DJI drones. DJI also has a lot of money and may be an influence on our, ahem, politicians. Is there any wonder why DJI is so willing to be compliant with US laws and policies? They REALLY don't want to lose the US market. But you are correct, we must do our due diligence and apply pressure on Congress. Bottom line, it's always about money.

However they have released no proof and no third party security firm or security researcher has released any proof either. With how common these drones are now then surely a security researcher could buy one and check if it was doing anything dodgy. Very strange how there is no proof from anywhere that DJI drones are spying on people.
Towards the end of your post you finally hit the nail on the head, thank you sir!
Thanks again for the video and information.
right on Bruce you nailed it
10 years from now we will be saying "Who thought it would apply to...(insert latest tech here)"
Would the wifi module side of things not be certified septerly?
11:10 sounds like the Australian car industry... And then they all 'moved away' and we are still stuck with the laws etc that were set up ( means high prices and bad "Quality control" ).
Thank you for making this video! I hope there is light at the end of the tunnel, sad times for RC.
at 8:00, saying we are push overs.
If I put a DJI camera on the mast of my RC sail boat is it still banned? They work great to counter the rolling action of the waves.
You're awesome, Bruce! Keep safe, keep well. 👍
The problem is the government has us so busy working to earn a living, we don't have time to attend protests. If we were on welfare and disability, then we'd have the time, but then we wouldn't want to bite the hand that was feeding us. They've got it figured out either way.
There is much truth to what you said. Distract us from the real issues as all kinds of skullduggery goes on right under our noses.
this summerizes the cost of freedom! is it really freedom? slavery in the modern age!
It's now out of date.
your local council is appalling with drones they are such a pain to work with for anything within the 4km
Thanks Bruce....always appreciate your efforts. 🎉 regards
Great job XJet !!! Great to see you back !!! 😉🙃😎😊
I agree 100% it's about money because of it was about national security then phones TVs gaming systems and many other things would need to be banned too... And I couldn't agree more about the Amazon birds
Bruce.. love the passion keep it up…
You may have forgot, that March regarding RID was during the “flatten the curve” BS during Covid.. travel restrictions
I know several people making their living using DJI quads to record things for TV and cinema, not sure what they will do if this passes.
You’re completely right. It’s nuts.
Good to see you again pal, I can't make it every Tuesday because of work.
Made it China but does not have Chinese hardware/chip
Very good breakdown of some of the inconsistancies. As a Canadian, it does look like an opportunity to start a tiny drone manufacturing business and refuse to ship to the USA.
Total 100 truth thank you !
Sadly people are money driven. I bet the majority that are against the DJI ban would flip for xx amount of money. What you need $10k? $100k? $1M? Name your price!
Until the majority realize that character should not be sold, most of us will continue to live a declining standard of living. Plain and simple just like nature.
Will this affect DJI gimbals too? Since they use Bluetooth
yes, bluetooth is radio
@@rubengarciajr7560 😢
that's going to cause a spike in walksnail and hdzero purchases until they realize that WS and HDZ are also made in china...
I can understand revoking the FCC certification for New DJI Drones... But my Drone was Certified when I bought it years ago.
I can't see them not allowing older Already Certified DJI drones from flying. My Certified DJI drone doesn't have a "yearly" re-certification requirement.
There is nothing to understand.
@@cipri198zero Guess you missed the point...
Hang in there Buddy! You’re the best expert that I know.
So unless they grandfather those rigs that are already in service or pay for the devaluation of all drones that are banned then this is unconstitutional under the takings clause.
Thanks, appreciate it!
Happy Flying
Thanks Bruce you're just awesome buddy I like it when somebody speaks their mind keep up the good work❤🎉❤🎉😊😅
I'm based in Australia and I own a dji gimble and a dji drone and if I took that equipment to the USA I would not be able to use it.
Thanks for doing this. I have always been hesitant to buy a drone because of the regulations.
Funny that Rotor Riot got bought out by a defense contractor, then this bill gets slipped into the Defense Budget Act. This should be a standalone bill, not attached to something that will definitely be passed. Follow the money
Rotor riot😂😂😂😂😂😂there nothing.
Do DJI have a users community? Surely they are informing all their drone owners of this possible outcome?
THIS IS REAL SHHHH RIGHT HERE!!!!!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
💯💯💯
Bruce, I hadn’t flown my DJI Mavic Mini in a while, the new “security” updates are becoming more restrictive ! 😢
how will the police and fire get on
Thanks for the video, totally agree with you.
Ah Bruce is back. Glad you are well. I have some of those HobbyKing transmitters still 😂
Get em, Bruce!! 👍
I LIVE, NERE THE Gulf of Mexico. THERE HAS BEEN MANY TIME'S NEEDED FOR SURCH FOR Rescue. Expecialy Land .Humans and Animal's.
OHH SHHHHT,,, I LITERALLY ASKED THAT QUESTION THIS MORNING ON PAUL MURRAY'S SHOW--- IF THE MIC'S WOULD BE BANNED AS WELL!!!!!
Bruce is the most important figure in the industry right now period
Thank you!!
Good stuff Bruce 👍🇬🇧
The same thing as the FCC not certifying Baofeng ham radios to transmit on FRS or GMRS frequencies. They’re still cranking out these radios and people are still using them.
At times I’ve felt tempted to get a dji drone. At this moment I’m glad I didn’t.
They may sky rocket in value 😁
San Diego, California. I'll let you fly my Avata 1
Where you at? Somebody will help you get high!
@@RUSTY93 lol
Is anyone else having problems with a air 2 or air 2s failing to pair after updates?
What will be the impact be in NZ? Other than they might shut down DJI if other countries follow like sheep.
What are the chances of them tracking them down with a banned drone. Could they just stock up while they can?
Already I’m selling
G off 3 DJI Drones. You are correct all DJI Bans
Will be illegal to fly FCC .
Seriously, don’t your local officials have better things to do than harass you? This should be a huge lawsuit for you with lots of money paid out
On the other hand, America is, I dare say, the biggest purchaser of DJI drones.
