  • N.E.S.T finally feels like it is coming to life after adding graphics and some sound effects! Next devlog, I'll go more in detail into character customization as well as have all of the weapons setup, and ready to show you! Hope you enjoy! :)

N.E.S.T is an action-packed, looter-shooter mobile game that entrusts you to save Earth from an alien invasion after a rogue interstellar radio message leads them straight here. Unconventionally however, these aliens don't arrive via spaceships. Instead, large nests crash into Earth's surface, and it is up to you to destroy them all before the aliens regain their full strength, and take over our beloved planet.

Cool! The joysticks look very nice. So, the graphic style of the game will be low poly, this can be interesting. When I found your channel you had 3 subs, but now you have 88, that is amazing!!! I love your dev logs, see ya next week

Nice! Love the low poly style, and the muzzle flashes are cool! Also, I watched that Jonas video as well. Can definitely take notes from that :D

Nice video, your explanation is quite clear. Yes, control the scope, that's rule I keep reminding myself all the time. :)

Thank you! And yes, it is very important haha! Every day, I keep on coming up with more and more ideas, but I need to remind myself to stay in scope! :P

Awesome! The low poly style is a great choice for performance reasons, too - N.E.S.T is going to be a mobile game, and high poly assets drain the battery and slow everything down.

Very true! Mobile games especially only have “integrated graphics” to work with, so no dedicated GPU to render high poly assets efficiently!

Nice work ... yeah, I guess I didn't follow that 'keep scope low' recommendation ;D

Haha! :P I think that all the extra details are definitely worth the time, but sometimes it's more important to focus on releasing your game, and then adding those afterwards through updates! I've found myself countless times on projects that I only released well after what I had set out for, just because I kept on adding more and more! I'm going to try do things differently this time! :D Your game looks incredible though, so all those extra details are definitely worth it!!!

Interesting point about the tweaks needed for weapon sizes. Animations and systems looking pretty good!

Good devlog! I really like it how you explain the things :D
Low poly or pixel art is never a bad style I think for an indiegame dev - the important parts are the game mechanics & functions :)

Does anyone know the game at 1:36

I will look out how you game developes. My point of sticking with low-poly would be completly different though:
    - Lower tris means higher performance (for example splitt-screen will be more likely to get implemented)
    - You can stick with easier animations, going for comic-style, if you want or need
    - It will run even on low hardware environments like tables, smartphones or older consoles, enableing your game for a larger audience
I will stick by realistic graphics for my game. It will be interesting to compare the developement of both imho.

Good points! Because my game is a mobile game, performance is very important to me! That being said, I do love realistic graphics, and games like COD Mobile and PUBG Mobile have shown us that it is possible to use realistic graphics while ensuring good performance! Thanks for your comment! 😊

Haha! 😂 I should probably spend a bit of time next devlog and explain myself... 😅 Let me just preface it by saying that it all definitely does play a part in the story!!! 😋
