I'm thinking the runners likely didn't appreciate the dust kicked up by the lead vehicle going up the hill. Perhaps organizers could consider putting down a bit of water for that section of the race to reduce dust.
Absolutely THE toughest and most famous course in XC, in the USA. The Mount SAC Invitational held in Oct. each year is an amazing event. 3 days of XC competition where they start a new race, every 8 minutes! The course is a clover leaf shape, with a blistering fast and flat first mile, and then the ridiculous climb up switch backs, the screaming downhill from the top of those, and then you slam into "poop-out" hill.....followed by some long steep rollers, and then flat-out down the old runway and into the finish. It's an amazing course. Can't imagine doing a 10k on it at pro level racing speed! Evert ran it like it was nothing, and it really shows the caliber of athlete he is. Of course the other athletes ran an amazing race too, just a little more "mount SAC calc'd."
