Toronto property owners also had their property taxes kept low by all the new condos they so hate. When Tory was last in power they voted to increase development charges to help fund their budget.

The high deficit of the City of Toronto is due to incompetence of the previous mayor John Tory. He created a mess and walked away without being accountable!
The new mayor Olivia Chow must demonstrate to homeowners what has she done to reduce the expenses of the City.
The problem with so-called democracy today is that the majority votes without having the slightest idea what the issues are. The Greek philosopher Socrates said that education is the best hope for a democracy. A population who understands the traits needed in a leader knows the difference between a con artist and a legitimate leader, and knows which path forward to take.
Totally agree with you on this. This is what I've been telling people, and am shocked that the media hasn't highlighted the inaction of John Tory during his years in office. I suspect that's why he exited office so quickly. Sure he blamed the affair but I suspect he crunched the numbers during the pandemic and realized he would really have to sing for his supper.

It's all going according to plan. They will eventually offer you amnesty, once everyone is exhausted and broke, basically let you live in the house that was once yours, if you sign over all your private property rights in perpetuity. This was leaked out from the PMO several years back.

There is no need to say to us that we need this horrendous tax hike to cover services like garbage pick up b/c these are paid by utilities.

I paid 115k in land transfer tax 3 yers ago when I bought my house in Toronto, where did that money go? How about we cut government waste!
I find it very unlikely this is true. Considering the land transfer tax is less than 2% i find it very hard to believe you spent 10M+ selling your property. If you did, then that’s a small amount

Should be a tiered property tax like income tax. Own a house over 10M pay 10%, over 5M pay 7%, … under 1M no change.

At first I was a bit surprised by the large percentage. Then I thought, wait a minute, that means that house rental investors that own multiple homes will have to pay a lot, and that might cause more properties to hit the market. I did not feel so bad. The question will be can renters avoid paying the increased cost by living in a lower cost lifestyle until this goes through, so they don't end up paying the increase.
Not really landlord can apply for more rent increase if they are face with a sudden increase in expenses ie higher property tax. This 16% property tax hike haven't happen before so landlord cba apply to RTB to increase rent than what is allowed annually
@@michaelyun2407 I guess the only option would be to rent or buy a mobile home, I think buying a boat home would end up in the same situation with the docking fees. I imagine that is a lot less expensive than renting a house or an apartment.
Before you celebrate too much realize that these properties won't be on the market for rent any longer creating an even bigger storages of affordable housing to rent. It will also mean higher rents.

Canada my family can consider recommendations:
1. Exporting education with Joint Venture with HK POLYU
2. Developing more collaborations programs with Greater bay Teams and Retailers benchmark of Canadian in G bay, help G bay living standards increase with excellent Product Designs skills sets
3. REBATE % of Properties tax when accumulated to certain levels to the people
4. MORE PR events, museums events for deeper studying tours from the Globe
In the next 20 - 30 years, there will be a HUMAN TAX that you will be charged for living and breathing.
Same tactic every year in every municipality. Announce a large increase then finish on half that and it's all good. Then everyone complains their services got cut.

You know, even the crappiest detached property is worth one million dollars or more.
So in effect, you are a millionaire. You have, hold and control a one million dollar asset. Even if, you don’t have all the toys, all the luxuries to go along with being a millionaire, you still are.
Modesty and humility whilst living in a luxury custom home, well , you really can’t complain. If your a home owner period. Your in a very fortunate and envious position, compared to the many who don’t have a bed, or a roof over they’re head.
Dig deep, think it through properly. Where you are if your a home owner, from the outside looking in, looks to be a pretty good place to be. I can’t see any scenario where you’re going to lose in the long run, that is as long as you pay your mortgage & property tax.

How much do you think they are making an hour and how many of them do you think can all of a sudden become an anesthetist? How many, if they stopped working at their jobs, would it take to bring the whole rat race to a halt?

Toronto has some of the lowest property taxes in the world when you compare to similar cities even after the hike. Time for owners to start to pay their share. For too long their taxes were suppressed and services cut. If we want a better city it needs to be funded properly. Let these owners borrow from their unearned home equity if they are so broke.
