On my 26 yr old whirlpool there was a plastic lint filter plate attached to the underside of the inner tub. It had never been cleaned and it was unbelievably caked up with sludge. I ended up cracking it and discarded it. Whirlpool doesn’t sell that part anymore and the alternative part is 4 plugs WP285868 that don’t fit the holes in my tub. One of the popular parts pro sites says I don’t need the filter. Wondering what your thoughts are. Thanks. Really enjoy this channel.

you can always tell a Kenmore elite from a 90s series. The lid opens backwards and there's a darker color around the controls.
