  • Lt Gen Kuldip Singh Brar is a veteran of the 1971 India-Pakistan War and the liberation of Bangladesh. He was also the commanding officer of Operation Blue Star and to this day, he remains on the hit list of Khalistani terrorists. In an informative conversation with Smita Prakash, 89-year-old Lt Gen Brar explains the preparations that went behind Operation Blue Star and the situation in Punjab during that time. He describes, in gripping detail, the operation and the events that followed. He recalls the assassination attempt on him by Khalistani terrorists ten years ago in London and how he fought back. He goes on to narrate his experience during the 1971 India-Pakistan War and the inside story of Pakistan’s surrender.

Absolutely brainwashed with your pseudo patriotism. You have no integrity with your comment. “We the real Sikhs”. A real Sikh is defined by the Guru & not slogans like Jai Hind. You have a misconception about spiting venom from Canada. If Panjab should have remained an Indian state than this military operation should never have been carried out. It was the military & the state that escalated this into the Khalistan movement because the Panjab movement was about the Anandpur Sahib Resolution. Not a separate Sikh country. They wanted to make this into sedation in order to completely crush this cause & get the Indian public completely against this & it worked. After Indira Gandhi’s’ assassination thousands of Sikhs were viciously burnt alive by baying Hindus completely backed by the state. The judiciary gave minor justice to the victims hence this struggle exits.

I read his book Operation Blue Star many, many, many years ago. A very absorbing read.
I found his book very informative and written in a frank and fair manner, without any exaggeration whatsoever.
Truly he was a very professional officer of the highest standard. Worthy of emulation.
Everything he did was done with a great sense care and concern for his men and also the public at large.
What he did was not to bloat his own ego but to serve India loyally with all his heart and soul. Presently you do get soldiers of his calibre and stature.
Even today he faces many dangers but like a brave soldier he marches on fearlessly with his head help up high. Humanly fearless, indeed. Remember the saying - a coward dies everyday but a brave man dies only once.
His courage and professionalism speaks volumes about him and his personality. His name will always be written in the military annals of India.
I wish him well wherever he is.

As a Punjabi Hindu whose family was chased out of their pind (village) by kharku's, saw their Hindu neighbors targeted and k/lled, pulled their kids out of colleges because they were getting shot up by these guys, I will forever be grateful for this guy. He's a hero to us. Bhindranwale might be looked up to by Sikhs but I think you have to be a special kind of low to not acknowledge what we went through in our homeland that we've been on since Rigvedic times. Similarly you have to be a special kind of low to not empathize with what Delhi Sikhs went through. These are not mutually exclusive events; both happened and both deserve justice. In an effort to pain all Hindus as bad our genocide has been swept under the rug. You can never get justice for 84 in Delhi without also advocating for justice for 84-93 in Punjab. We were literally hearing gunshots at night in our pind and waking up to another Hindu family being dead. Sikh neighbors would tell Kharku's were Hindu and they would terrorize them all night by telling the women to make their cha and pakore whilst beating up the men, finally r/ping the women even teenage girls and then shooting the whole family. Bhindranwale had to be stopped and so did Indira Gandhi. It is what it is and I'm tired of Sikhs acting as if this was a one sided genocide.

Bt Army did the announcement to release common people and this thing is confirmed by a Ex Khalistani too. Don't you think Bhindranwale was responsible for all these deaths, as he kept those people inside even after announcement. Also he was taking shelters in a holy place with all the guns and rocket launchers, just coz he believed Army would never enter gurdwara complex, even after his people will keep on shooting Army. @@SatyamDixit-tl3bv Yes Bhindranwala has responsibility. However the operation was carried out with brute force and no regard for innocence, on a day when attendance at Darbar Sahib was high due to a religious festival.
Brar is responsible for much excess violence and killing too.
Bhindranwala is not guilty for bringing weapons into the complex, or for sheltering there, because weapons, shastar-dhaari for defense of self and innocence is a big part of Sikhism. But I agree he is very guilty for keeping the civilian people inside as a shield. But just because Bhindranwala has guilt due to his actions doesn't change Brar has guilt too.

@JHAJJ Abe chodhumal baba deep singh and sahaijadee fight was against freedom of religion and destruction mughals in general were cruel people who demolished temples and gurudwaras. Whereas your bhindranwale was creating a separate country he started hindu massacre first by pulling them out of their buses. Stopping trains and shooting hindu people? He openly said on mike that he will massacre 50000 Hindus if his khalistan won't be established.

@@yaddhillon200 vereee,,, I agree with you that bhindrawale was "Hidding" inside darbar sahib, totaly agreed, But Indira gandi (Army) attacked other 37 Gurudwaras, lets say Army wanted to kill kharkus, aggred, why they raped women, why they killed innocent youth of Punjab, lets say, Jaswant singh Khalra ji, was fighting for human rights, ok? , He went to Haryana/ Punjab high court, he went to canada, he went to international court, why he went missing? can you answer me?? Govt. policies has never been great for punjab, they wanted to destroy sikhi, why they choose Shiru guru arjan Dev shaheedi day for killing so called "Terrorists", veer ji,,, We need unity,, we need our rights ,, we need anandpur sahib mata,, not khalistan,,, Bhindrawale never demanded for khalistan,,, he only asked rights for punjabis,, which punjab earned,,, because after 1947,, british/ Nehru saud punjab will get different rights from others,,, why only Punjab devided into to parts, and after partition into Haryana/ Himachal, why they want to give punjabs water to other state without asking punjabis,, its a natural resource,, its written in Constitution, thats state have their own right to give their natural resource for free or not,,, So veer ji think about that,, do your own research,,,We also dont want India to be divided into 2 parts again,, we want to live in India,, but govt. has to decide whether they give our rights to us or not ( Bhindrawale) Waheguru ji ka Khalsa,, waheguru jiki fateh,,,

He said we got 400-500 casualties within 8 hours and same on other side. Then why he took 6 days to complete the mission. Reality is that there were only few men inside golden temple and there were battalions of battalions outside the golden temple. Secondly, he said there were warnings on loudspeakers, but the volume was so low that people weren’t able to hear those. Even locals outside of golden temple were not able to listen the warning. And he got orders that there should be least damage to building of Gurudwara sahib, but the pictures of rightway after the mission depicted some other image. Guys always listen both sides of a coin before considering who is right and who is at fault.

I just want to say one thing after watching this interview ... if army is blamed for getting inside the temple with guns n ammunition to kill innocent people but then why the locals n temple authority allowed binderwalla people to get guns and ammunition inside the temple .. n why the Saint n his pupil did not allow civilians go out without being harmed ....why ??? is it correct from there side ... any war or attack is result of both the side wrong or mistakes..... the temple is so pure place why locals didnot objected earlier .. did anybody thought about this now ... here if anybody has to be blamed is the bastard politicians n the one who nurtured binderwalla was punished by sikhs n why indian army is blamed they did their duty what they were asked .. n dont forget these army jawan also lost life n they too have family ... One more thing i want to say General brar is alive after so many threat because guru nanakji have given life n he will decide whrn his soul will leave this world ... I HAVE ONE QUESTION WHEN JAILLANWALA BAGH INCIDENT HAPPEN ..WHY GDNERAL DYER WAS KILLED N NOT THE SOLDIERS WHO FIRED ON THE INNOCENT CROWD ..WHY ??? .. DID ANYBODY THOUGHT ABOUT THAT EVER ??? ...
