    The position of your shoulder when you do a pushup can either build your shoulders and chest or if done incorrectly, can being to break them down. Incorrect form and position can cause problems within the shoulder joint and eventually lead to rotator cuff syndrome or other problems when done incorrectly.

    I just want to thank you .. i had not been doing push ups from several weeks just because i had this pain everytime i do push ups.. while watching this i did few reps and tadaa no pain thanks a lot .. you earned a sub ❤️

    Thank you so much. It’s very nice of you to share your knowledge. I have minor impingement and am going to do planks for a while, but will eventually keep my elbows in near my body. Is it okay to use dumbbell to help keep the alignment as grips?

    Thank you for this advice. I’ve been doing knuckle push-ups for karate, which are easier to do with elbows out.
    Any advice on good form for knuckle push-ups?

      Awesome. Remember to keep those elbows in and focus on pushing your body away from the ground. Sometimes going slower is better.

    how exactly do ur elbows end up in the position it’s in with the actual form? i feel like i’m letting myself on the ground when i try to do this i don’t feel any muscle working

    Thanks, Doc! I was doing diamonds and I heard a "gristle like" sound in my left delt. I put on some Tiger Balm and will take it easy and make adjustments. Thanks, again.:)

    Ever since I started benching more I dont do as much calisthenics. One move I use to knock out a lot is one armed push ups. Now I can barley do one on my right arm. Left is still good. Gonna work on my shoulder mobility and ease off on the benching.

    Wow...for months I have been searching for a solution.Finally i found it . Thankyou very much.I injured my left shoulder while doing my chest day ,which mostly variety of pushup exercises,on top of that I slept in a wrong position that day.After that I had intense pain.The pain went away after a 10 days.But i could not do any pushups.Thank you again.

    i've always done shoulders in pushups and still have pain in front of the shoulder. I can't do dumbells bench presses without pain but after a few sets it subsides a little.

      You may want to check into the structure of your joints and have someone help with mobility

    Probably why I'm in my thirties and my shoulders are destroyed lol I'm doing them the way you show now but I still get some shoulder pain.

      This may be because you still have to give them rest, rehab, and there may be some other issues to take care of. Just changing technique right away does not mean pain will immediately go away. Glad you are trying to fix them!

    Thank you for this video. I've been doing pushups like that since I was a kid. Now I'm 48 I can't do one push up without cringing pain! I was always told that if I wanted a bigger chest, then do pushups wide and elbows out. 😡

      Hard to build a chest with injured shoulders! You should be able to do some chest exercises with shoulders out or in, but the magic occurs with changing angles, and protecting those shoulders for the future. The point of lifting weight is to be strong! Not injured. Hope you can rehab and recover and get back to it!

      I was doing the same way since i was a teenager and now i'm having pain in the upper arm. Like you mentioned you were told to do pushups wide and elbows out, that's a disaster. Some people do it wrong and tell others that it is the right way. Till now you can see some videos explaining some exercises in the wrong way. Some people said doing pushups slowly would build strength than doing pushups somewhat faster. I don't think it is actually true. Before some years i was doing 100 pushups in one set, i was doing half pushups.
      I saw one video and thought i could do it that way, i was doing pushups slowly as well as till the chest reached the floor, that is what mentioned as correct but as far as i remember, that is when i got this arm pain. However i have seen a video of one of my favorite wrestlers who was doing pushups somewhat faster and he was doing the half pushups.

      First watch your hand and elbow position. Grip the ground with your hands. Slow and steady first. Build stability first before you move

      There can be many other issues such as imbalances, poor mechanics, overloading/excess training, tendonitis, etc. Keep this in mind when dealing with injuries.

    I am about to turn 66 and I am doing them correctly. I always focus on form , especially at my age I am having problems with AFTER work out shoulder pain. I have reduced how often, and i have started skipping a day now and then, but I want to get back to doing them every day, if I can . my doctors barely even mention exercise. i find this very odd, too. I started out very slow and built up and after about a year of this, the pain started up and I had to change how i worked out in the mornings

      Severe internal bleeding can cause death.

      The pain will increase and your injury will increase to such extent you wont be wanting to do workout, then your health will get worse and you will die from heart attack or other diseases.
      In short : yes you can die from shoulder injury.

    Wow... I feel stupid. Here I am benching 315 for a 1rm but I could only do like 2 pushups because it hurt too much. Watch this and go to try it and I just did 30 with no problem. Haha! Welp thank you.

      Not true. You likely need to watch your technique and make sure there are no issues with the shoulder
