Despite the extreme rarity of attacks on humans, Sharks have become perhaps the most widely feared animals on the planet. How did this happen? They're not naturally aggressive towards humans and kill fewer people each year than falling coconuts. So what gives?
The world is full of monsters, myths, and legends and Monstrum isn’t afraid to take a closer look. The show, hosted by Emily Zarka, Ph.D., takes us on a journey to discover a new monster in each new episode. Monstrum looks at humans' unique drive to create and shape monster mythology through oral storytelling, literature, and film and digs deep into the history of those mythologies.

I remember one day realizing that Amity's Mayor was the actual villian of the movie.
Though the shark ate humans it was behaving like a predatorial animal, albeit with a rogue behavior since sharks don't usually prey on humans.
The Mayor literally wanted to cover everything in order to avoid losing money and open the beaches despite the danger of the shark. He literally opened the doors of the restaurant to a predator. In the book he is preassured by gangsters, but still very dark.

In fact, Lamia is considered the origin for the family of sharks known as Lamnidae, which includes makos and great whites.

I've heard some people compare sharks to cats, they both have their own strong personalities and sure, if feeling threatened they would attack (the difference being that sharks will not leave you only scratches), but they are quite peaceful and sometimes docile species. They are funny sometimes. Take this comment with a grain of salt, I dunno if this information is correct, but I've seen a lot of scubba diver videos that show how docile sharks are

I have thalassophobia, I don't even like swimming in lakes. Hell, if a pool is big and deep enough I never like turning my back towards the deep part. I'm a strong swimmer and if I swim down to the bottom I'm much more comfortable but floating at the surface is insanely nerve-wracking for me. I think some of it comes from growing up in an area with very murky fresh water and predators like alligators and snakes and a lot of other potential dangers in the water that you couldn't see. Add on watching Jaws a few too many times and now I basically start having a panic attack if you get me to go past knee deep in the ocean. I'll go out deep sea fishing on occasion and every time I look over the side into the water and can't see anything but blue, I have to go sit down and calm myself down. I've gone out swimming in old quarries and even tho I know the biggest thing in there is a catfish, it's so deep I still felt anxious. I actually love sharks and love to learn about them, but I have zero desire to go anywhere near them and just wish we respected them and their home more.

The film version of Jaws was big the first summer I worked as a lifeguard -- at a *pool* that was at least an hour from the nearest beach. A couple of young teen girls came straight to the pool after seeing the film on a gray, drizzly day with a cold breeze blowing, so they were the only non-staff inside the fence. Of course, they had to come when it was my turn in the rotation to go up into the guard chair (exposed to the breeze & drizzle atop an 8-foot pole) so I was anything but thrilled. Then I noticed the girls were playing "shark attack" -- one would stand in the shallow end of the pool and the other would swim up behind her underwater, holding one hand up like a shark's dorsal fin, and they'd see how close the swimmer could get before the other girl freaked out. After watching this for several minutes while shivering in the drizzle, I waited for one of the girls to swim up close behind the other and when she came up for air I yelled "SHARK!" as loudly as I could. They got out of the pool faster than anyone I'd ever seen, grabbed their towels, and ran out the gate -- all while screaming. I have to admit I was kind of proud of myself when I walked back into the warm, dry office, and earned a lot of brownie points from the rest of the staff when I told them why a couple of screaming banshees had just zoomed past the office at warp speed. (Aah, to be young again...)

Nanaue looked like regular guy, but had a shark's mouth on his back and could turn into a shark. Moho told his mother not to let him eat meat, but one day he did which lead to him developing an insatiable appetite for meat, which led him to start eating people. When they found the big gaping shark mouth on his back they realized that he was the man-eating shark and tried to kill him, but he swam to a different island. This happened a few times until one village snared him and beat him to death while he was in shark form.

Having been in the water with sharks including a great white for I'll admit 30 ish seconds before it swam away I can say, they're very intelligent and inquisitive animals. Not the demonic killer's Hollywood has made you believe and it was an honour being so close to a great white shark that I touched it's pectoral fin. One of my favourite animals in the world just so incredible and endangered nowadays, was off coast of Ambriz in Angola where I encountered it, probably because they've been driven away from South Africa for years now so they've probably moved further North.
But I've swam with a great white for a bit, bulls, tigers, reefs, nurse, lemons and black tip sharks. Never been bitten or seen very aggressive behaviour mostly curiosity from them and believe it or not playfulness especially from tiger sharks which I've dived with around Africa and in the Caribbean. They love being hand fed underwater and believe it or not have their noses scratched, they're literally like dogs only aquatic, alot bigger and personally? Way cooler
