- Surgery recovery is almost done. Adding hydraulic lines to the Farmall M. Adding hydraulic lines to the John Deere Disc. It is almost time to replant the pastures. Smoking 2 pork roasts. Fixing the Bombardier Sarasota. The buggy is running once again. The eclipse. More chickens coming.
Greetings from Northeast Ohio. I’ll tell you what Joe, I’m 75 year old woman and I did not expect to cry. But when I totality hits it, it’s like a switch and it is dark. In the glow around the Earth is amazing. Yeah a lot of people cried. It was very emotional something I’ll never forget, and my grandchildren will never forget. My 18-year-old grandson had tears in his eyes. It is just not what you expect until it happens. in 20 years when it happens again, in 2044 I urge you to travel where totality will be.
Big waste of time with people getting emotional over an eclipse. This is the 21st century not Paleolithic Caveman era.
Actually mircat28, it is statements like this that keeps society so fucked up. What might be emotional for some might mean nothing for another person but who cares. It causes no pain to get emotional over something just like it causes no pain not to get emotional over it. What causes pain is making a comment like yours that ruins that experience they had. I do not see the whole crying thing either but I think its cool that people can share the experience.
Toughen up Buttercup.. second full eclipse and it was just same as the 1st. Neat but kinda boring.
You got really good sound on this video. Nice and clear.
Joe, Check the Ground on your Tractor and the plug wire that runs behind your oil filter housing, when you started the tractor after removing the extra oil ring, there was a short to ground from the bottom of the filter housing. Around 55:00 in the video, sure looked like it anyway.
Wow Z, Rosie is getting so big and beautiful.
On the disk when you get the hydraulic cylinder hooked up run your control lever on the tractor to fully extend the cylinder on the disk then pull that top pin to free the link that is holding the disk wheels in the up position and leave it disconnected until you want to unhook the disc from the tractor. When you unhook the disk from the tractor you want to reconnect that link and then relieve the pressure on the cylinder so when you disconnect the hoses there is no pressure otherwise you would not be able to reconnect the hoses due to pressure in them from the weight of the disk pushing on the cylinder, As for the angle of the disk gangs you set that for how aggressive you want the blades to cut, you don't need to change that otherwise. With the old non wheeled disk they allowed for the angle adjustment for transport to different fields so you were not ripping the ground up where you didn't want to. If your cylinder control lever is backwards of what you want just switch the hose positions where they connect to the tractor and put tape or zip ties on one set for easy reference when reconnecting. Another thing I would do is remove that bolt that goes through the cylinder mounting plate below the top link pin, that will allow that plate to pivot forward and relieve pressure on the cylinder when your not using the disk with out having to disconnect the cylinder. When you are going to use the disk then move that top link pin to the lower hole after the disc is fully raised by the cylinder which will allow you to raise the disk wheels off the ground to add more weight to the disc blades and if you want to limit the depth of the blades in the soil you can get spacers that snap over the cylinder shaft to limit it's travel when you lower the disk blades into the soil. Hope that helps a bit, good luck Joe.
This guy pretty well has it laid out for you Joe. Got one like it. The rod behind the cylinder is also for road transport so if a hose blows the disk stays up. It may take a bit of finesse to get the pin pulled if full extension of the cylinder puts pressure on it. The depth spacers he mentions I know as "cylinder stops". For spelling use both disc and disk for search. When you unhook hoses shut off tractor and run lever both ways to relieve pressure first. Good luck.
Thank you Joe! So glad you are getting better! Hello to Melissa! Always enjoy your channel!
Good food, nice dogs, kind tractor and good company. Great video Joe! God speed on your recovery. Its nice to to see you getting back "in the swing of things".
It's awesome to see you easing back into the swing of things. You took it slow (per Dr's orders) and look at you now. Recovery at first is painful, but mostly boring. Being tied down is the worst for someone that is always up and moving. Thanks for the update, Joe!
Hey Joe it’s good to see that you’re coming along just fine and it was nice to see Zach and little Rose 🌹. Spring is coming and things are looking good, take care! 👏👏👏🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯🌱🌱🌱
Your wood fired kitchen stove could use a little stove polish paste. Makes a huge difference over using an oil and prevents rust.
It's a good thing it wasn't the end of the world and I was able to watch your video😁😁 🤭🤭
Lol. Thank you.
Glad to see and here you are recuperating well! We had a good eclipse viewing here in South Central Wisconsin about 80%, It got kind of dark like twilight for a while, not as dark as the last one but it was a good show. The first farm tractor I learned to drive and use back wen I was 14 working on my neighbours parents farm was a Farmall M with narrow front end, was a real workhorse! I could mow hay one day then bale it a couple days latter, never missed a beat. If I remember right it had four hydraulic circuits on it (home made) mainly for use with the disk and the planter. Earl '60s were a good time!
Thanks for sharing with us Joe and Melissa, looking good around there and getting around a lot better. Stay safe and don't over do it. Take it easy and work back into shape easily. Glad to see the hoses go on the Farmall, hope you get the disc and the hydraulics figured out easily, the disc will be a good addition around there for you. Stay safe and keep up the fun. Fred.
You have live hydraulics on that tractor, it is easy to put power steering on it. The hoses to the rear remotes originally had them run under the seat on the platform and a cover over them for protection .
Great video ! The chores never end we know that :) Glad your feeling better ! The old tractor runs pretty good :)
That's what I'm talking about! Joe, almost ready to do,some work around the farm house. So glad to see you working on things.. Stay safe and have a great day.🤓👍🤓👍Randy.
Murray McMurry. We were around 100 miles from totality on the eclipse and it got darker outside, and the crickets were chirping and the birds were going to bed. No Zombies. 😂
Great video Joe- nice to see you up and fixing and tinkering with things again!
What a beautiful wood stove. I can't wait to see it all shined up. I'd love a video of you showing how to use stove black. ❤
put your quick couplers so one male and one female on tractor and same on implement so it doesnt get mixed up when hooking it up and u can switch then so the lever moves the way u want the disc to either up or down your choice, keep having fun
That's one of those things that you wish you would have done sooner
Yay! Just about to head to bed, perfect wind down....
Cheers from 🇨🇦
Good video Joe. say Hello to Zach Sarah and everybody for us. Love little Rose. she is so cute. Love the Tractor. I want one. stay safe with the recovery.
Great to see wee Rose again a little sweetheart .
Glad recovery is about over Joe ,, spring is about there
Great video Joe. Glad to see you are recovering and getting to do more. Man that meal of pork roast, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy and garlic bread looks awesome. You and Melissa can put out a spread.
I have an Oklahoma Joes electric pellet smoker, just plug it in, fill the hopper with pellets, set the temperature , insert the temperature probe and walk away for several hours until it’s done I absolutely love the thing .
Best part is the wife got it free from TryIt she’s a product tester , well I am too! 👍👍🍴🍽️🍻
I was getting ready for bed! Then Joe posted a video! I can wake up late! LOL!
....I was already asleep....so I watched it first thing...
Thank you for sharing your Life with us Awesome video
Thanks Joe for video. Glad go see your recovery going well.
Good to see you doing good Joe. Take it easy. Heal up.
For your hydrologic block. Just hook the hoses up. If you don't like the way it moves, simply switch the hoses.
Glad you doing well
Hey Joe on that filter try some that thread sealant
We were in the path of totality at out property so that’s where we were. It was a really cool event. This is the second total eclipse we have had and it’s still just as cool! The traffic was terrible both before and after. What usually takes me an hour and half to get back took 4 hours. Traffic on I 55 was just crawling!
Really enjoyed it 👍👍
Good to see you almost back to normal
Continued healing...👍🇨🇦😎
Joe, Get you a medium size cooler. When you are done cooking (especially late at night) line the cooler with some old bath towels. Wrap the roasts as you did, drop them into the cooler. Cover with a couple more old towels and put the lid on the cooler. The roasts will continue to cook and be pull off the bone tender the next day!
Hello from Siesta Key Florida
Wow that snow melted fast!!
Just regular silicone tape will seal connections just fine, pipe dope like you were using most of the times does not completely seal the threads. One your disc you will need 5-6 rounds to even get your disk a few inches in the ground, plow your ground then disc your ground otherwise your wasting alot of time abd effort. A four row plow should match your HP on your tractor. Those valve body's can be very tricky, even if you have a extra remote spaces doesnt mean it will work correctly, Good luck , hope your healing
Please be careful. Twisting wrenches are hard on you right now.
I was hoping to see the disc/disk working. You left us hanging. Something to look forward to on the next video unless the zombies come for you 😂
Stay tuned, I am looking forward to it as much as you are.
That particular style of disk is what I believe they call a tandem disk, the other style that is shaped kind of like a V is called an offset disk. The offsets usually cut and dig deeper turning more dirt initially and leave a ditch or grove on the right side that your next pass in that same direction would fill up always making a bigger circle filling in the trench it leaves. Now the ta
Now the disk you have the tandem style you have usually isn’t as aggressive but it will get the job done just may have to make a few extra passes. It will leave a small trench on both sides so people usually pull or run a harrow behind or afterwords to level everything out. They usually bust up the clods and clumps better than the offset
A+
It doesn't matter if your loader is still on the tractor with the cultivator on the back. If your used to it being on then leave it. It's just more work removing and then reinstalling it for the winter.
The leading edge of that implement is a disc, if the back gang is straight it could be considered a harrow......I guess. If the back gang can be set at an angle it will do a much better job.
I need you guys to go fishing or camping or something fun! I think I'm going stir crazy right along with you!
I may go to The Tent this week for a day or 2. My Dad went up to the folks place today. Since he no longer does any winter trips, this is the earliest he has been to the cabin in over 10 years. He is really happy tonight. He said there is no ice on the lake, the swans were out there, the loons were singing and he went over to the Tent and there were 16 ducks out in front of the dock. No bugs and he said he had that wood stove in the cabin going. Melissa and I will be up there for opening fishing which is the weekend of May 11th and 12th. The Tent and camping season is about to begin along with the garden etc. We are going to disc that whole back pasture and plant a good pasture mix this spring and see what happens. Stay tuned.
@@NorthernSeclusion Oh good! Its always fun to see you guys at the tent and especially Melissa beating your butt in fishing :-) I am glad your dad got such a peaceful time at his cabin and yours. I can picture it perfectly!
Take a look at the wood splitter should be the same setup. Pump, cylinder, motor.
We had 100 percent in Austin. It was cloudy all day until it started and then the sun came out. People got really cool pictures. It ended and then we got thunderstorms. I did not see any zombies but it’s Austin and kind of hard to tell. There was a woman with a double stroller with two pigs in it.
really miss you russell
Joe, looks like you need to oil the top of the wood stove again.
I look forward to your posts. ❤ I've always wanted a woodstove. What are your plans for the walls in the workshop kitchen?
I will let you know once Melissa lets me know what I am going to do. Lol. Thank you.
Hope you are doing well , my husband have to go again for the third time for his hernia ( luck is not with him )
Man you can eat! Two roast! One for Melissa and one for you...........
It is now Friday and we are still (the 3 of us) eating those roasts. In fact, we are sick of them. Lol.
I kinda thought you were milking the recovery thing and then you posted this video. Glad your recovery is going well. Am anxiously awaiting your return to the tent and doing some fishing. Stay healthy.
👍
43:10 Wow, Annie grew huge.
My boss had me sheetrocking 5/8 ,2 weeks after belly button operation mesh surgery. That sucked, be careful lifting.
I’m blown away re the sizes of the meat in the USA, here in Australia we pay more for the same amount but they are a third of the size
I suspect you and I are of a similar age, and I have commented before on the fact we like the same sci fi films. After the last video, I watched both The Day the Earth Stood Still movies again, and I find the music for the older movies is way better than the modern versions. There is something about it that makes them more scary the Forbidden Planet being an example. That said the new Dune movies are way better than the originals, but just doesn't have the same impact with the music.
Thank you for the video. I enjoy watching your video's even when you are just pushing snow or mowing. What happened to your thumb? Looked all purple and the nail was coming off. I've lost a nail before due to paint remover I was using as a dry cleaner. It was so painful. Take it easy if you can.
The night before we went fishing with the fish house camper I hit it when loading logs into the wood boiler. It honestly barely hurt, even the next day. I have lost almost every fingernail on my hands throughout my life being in construction. Some of them were bad and very painful, holding my hand above my head so the throbbing pain would be less. Lol. I will definitely be losing this thumbnail and if i remember correctly I will have some painful tender times ahead, but for now it seems fine, just looks awful. Thank you for commenting.
In ontario Canada they had a state of Emergency for it and schools and jobs where canceled stupid if u ask me
Great video Joe how do u clean that wood boiler out every year
Rose is growing like a weed, for sure! We're in The Cities and we couldn't even tell there was an eclipse. Glad your healing up good, Joe. Question: Is the pizza place you go to Sammy's? My daughter wants to know.
Pretty soon you'll be out there rummaging around in the garden Joe, thoughts of recovery far behind you, no restrictions, it'll be full steam ahead lol. Glad to see your doing so well for real. Are the chicks yal ordered called Easter eggers?? Ik a family on here that has those and they really do lay some beautiful coloful eggs, blue, green, pink, n I believe even purple. Very pretty. Great video Joe those roasts looked delicious as always. Tyfs God bless you
I think 3 of them are the olive eggers. We tried for some breeds that were sold out so we shall see. When Melissa had chickens down in Louisiana, prior to the flood she had about 150 chickens and she hatched from incubators almost all of them. Olive eggers are green/olive colored eggs. We also ordered some that have blue eggs.
@@NorthernSeclusion sounds awesome. That's a lot of chickens lol. She must've had a lot of fresh eggs then too. Nothin like fresh eggs. We buy ours from our landlord every month
All your stuff is normal Joe.
I hope that is good. Lol. I just film what I am doing, nothing more than that.
Pork roast is done at 145 degrees. 😊😊
Not when you are smoking it. You smoke until around 160, and I usually then pull it off the smoker, wrap it tight and you want to put it back until it reaches 195 to 205. Pulling it at 200 is a good choice since it will still cook once you pull it. This is how you get the traditional smoked pork roast or a smoked beef brisket. You might be correct if you are grilling it or cooking a roast in the oven as just a "pork roast" but not as a "smoked pork roast."
I won the Powerball 🎉😁!
Just letting you know once again how I consider you my very best friend. Lol.
LoL 🤣
🖐😎👍
I can send you some really cool eclipse pictures from Northwest Ohio if you like.
What year is your tractor? My dad had a 1954 model. Was 6 volt
1948 Farmall M.
How come Mellisa doesn’t help you?
Are you going to box in the double walled pipe that goes thru the ceiling on the cookstove? It looks so temporary
I have covered that in detail in previous videos. The short answer is yes. The long answer, saying why I have not done that yet? You will have to watch the videos.
I was just going to ask you if there was a gasket down in there and sure enough you had found out there was
Good video say what's in the little red shak by the big red billding?
I read this this morning but do not know what you mean. We have only one red building here, the main garage, and we have no little red building next to it.
@@NorthernSeclusion sorry I thought there was one right in front by the walk in door of the garage. Sorry been waching lot of your videos love all of them.
@@NorthernSeclusion it's the smoker sorry jest wach it agen
Now, to get those chains off the tractor wheels!
Never going to happen. I will wait until they ruin the tires and then get new tires and put chains on and leave them on until they ruin those tires. That is how much I hate putting chains on.
Oh my, you still have the work camper! I thought you sold it?
I did explain that in this video.
How’s the level of hydraulic fluid in the tractor?
I added fluid last fall, it should be good but I will be checking it again once the cylinder on the disc gets filled.
Do you still drive the other trucks once in a while where they just don’t sit
We did not use them this winter because we really did not have a winter. am not sure what I am going to do with them. We pay full coverage insurance on every vehicle we have just in case a tornado comes or something. We may reconsider that to save a couple thousand dollars a year.
What about 2 gaskets for the oil leak?
Like you saw in the video, that is why it was leaking.
.... please excuse me for being very late to the table.....but, Woohoo!
You saw GOD
I saw clouds. If I saw God this would have been a different video.

Enable wallet on your phone, or PayPal
I do not want that information on my phone. If I had my way we would only pay with cash. Except for the mortgage on the house, we have no other loans. We do not have a single credit card, not even for emergencies. If we can not pay cash for something, we do not buy it. I just need to remember my wallet. Lol.
It is spelled Disc
Did you see in the booklet, they spelled it disk. You can see it in the video.
Hope that wasn't your truck running while you were filling up your truck with gas.
It was and it will be the next time you see me do it also.
Disc is correct, the people who spell it "disk" are ignorant, texting has allowed people to butcher the language that civilization is built around. Anyway........I do enjoy your channel
It's Disk on his John Deere manual.
Feel better?
The manual says Disk. They were still using rotary phones back then, no texting.
Breakfast looks a bit burnt just saying
Looks are deceiving. There was not anything crunchy in that whole breakfast. Cook your sausage or bacon and then once done you cook your eggs in that same grease. That is why it looked darker. That is also why it tastes better than any breakfast you will have anywhere else. Just saying.
