343Films it's not the same cause Xbox one controller is shit you cant turn vibration of on the triggers and the triggers are pointy so it hurts your fingers cause the br is a burst rifle
it saddens me that people dont care to do this stuff in halo 4 or 5. For me, that is what made halo so unique. players would rather explore and break the rules than be competitive. people spent more time in forge than in matchmaking. now everyones focused on Esports and breaking the map barriers is considered exploitation in public lobbies. it's really sad.
+Hyperion's Stuff Well at the same time, newer Halo games are a lot more polished these days so this kind of stuff is not as easy to do in the newer Halo games. That's probably why you don't see as much of it.
I've only played through the Halo 4 campaign maybe two and a half times, the Halo 5 campaign once, but Halo 1-Reach an uncountable amount. Think that has something to do with it; there's just almost no replay value in the new games, regardless of glitches or Easter eggs to be found or not.
(I know i'm a year late) A game that you can enjoy so much that you can even find enjoyment of spending hours just boundary breaking essentially (and usually with nothing to gain) means they've done something right imo
This tools nearly 10 years and I'm not disappointed, this is the kind of stuff that made Halo fun back then, now a lot of this exploring is pretty much gone sadly.
My Guy tbf 343 can't follow what bungie did as bungie still owns the aspect and ideas of the first 3 halo's. to do what they did isn't allowed so they have to something completely different.
Brandon Seymer custom zombie games on the desert map, piling into warthogs and doing laps and laps mowing down waves of super fast undead. Great times!
You guys! There IS a secret to that gate! All you have to do is play through the game normally on legendary difficulty with all skulls on and take zero damage. Then once you get to the area with the gate, you triple rocket crouch double jump over the gap to get to the area with the gate. Then all you have to do is open it, which you'll need the scarab gun for. So make sure you port over your Halo 2 save. Oh yeah, also you can only do it on bungie day. Once all that's done, the gate should open to reveal Yoshi!
One could theorise that perhaps the interior warehouse was going to be larger, as well as the AA gun area, which may of set the scene for a larger final battle sequence, and the "secret gate" being used as a second exit. I know Bungie wanted larger scale stuff during the development of the halo games. its always a wonder what they could of done without restriction.
Looks more to me like it was the original entrance to the area. The slow opening gate would give you a dramatic view of the cannon and all. Also, the way it's cordoned off from the path to the cannon looks kinda rushed and not planned. Just my guess though
If you guys haven't noticed that is the spot where the next mission comes in and you have a scene of a squad of marines getting wrecked by the flood who just came in. Do you guys remember that? Maybe that was made to make a little more quality looking scenery to that battle.
Thanks for revisiting this. I miss this game and marks a memorable time of my life and getting to know people in the modding community. Ever looked into the secret room hidden under the map at the very beginning of the ark where you jump out of the pelican?
Daniel .R go to gamestop ask for the game buy it or if your local gamestop doesn't have it in stock they'll mail it to you from a gamestop that has a copy of halo 3. They did this for me with blazblue continuum shift extend.
Feels really good to see halo3 again like this. Back to the glitches and out of map videos. Googling how to and where to find the easter eggs and the skulls. Psh, what nice memories. Remember a hilarious youtube video series with master chief and the arbiter action figures talking with robotised voices. Greatness.
I still remember getting halo 3 when it first came out. I would play that game non-stop everyday after school. My friends would always come over and play with me too. It really brings a tear to my eye thinking about how this came out 10 years ago.
Same here except i never had friends like that. It was usually just me and my cousin. We beat legendary together then when i finally got xbox live i played alot of the duck hunt custom mode and map.
It genuinely fills my heart with joy when I see a Bungie-era Halo vid like this get uploaded and gain popularity in the age of 343 Halo games and current gen consoles. Halo 3's glory days were the most fun I ever had in gaming and doing cool and goofy shit like this solidified friendships with people that I talk to daily. If 343 really isn't working on Halo 3 Anniversary, I hope at the very least we'll get a PC port of Halo 3 and the rest of the games from the MCC by the end of the year.
In fact there is a much much more simple way to get there without the crates. I would love to try this out on floodgate with you guys. Hit me up if you want. Gamertag is 'Monument'.
I remember a video about this with a crazy theory saying that if you system link your 360 with an OG Xbox with halo 2 inside, and you cross the gate, you'll be teleported to a secret level in halo 2. Ive always wanted to try that ever since I saw that video.
In the halo engine for a door not to open when you get to it it needs to have that setting specifically set, so that is why it opens. Also the reason why it loads in the emptyness is because it is in the bsp which they made some space in so they could put the AA gun there, that is also why you can fall there.
Michelle, how do you know so much about Halo's engine? How can you be sure that doors open automatically by default, and that Halo 3 uses a BSP file format for its maps?
I love this! Whether it's lore, Easter eggs or hidden details there's always something new to learn about halo! This isn't even a recent discovery either. Truly a game that withstood the test of time.
I was always more curious about that second unfinished AA gun that only loads in when you're in the scarab area and seems to despawn afterwards. It always mystified me.
I never used to have online and back then I thought I was the only one who realized you could get out this map, but I am SO GLAD the community was stull booming with explorers like me
It's videos like this that show just how naive we were back then. I never knew about this gate myself back in 07'/08', but the moment I clicked this I already knew that it was a prop in a non-rendered environment since it's basically video game design 101. Still, cool vid & I'll probably try this myself lol.
Wtf, when I map explored with my friend (10 year old me or something) we found this gate in its context, but we never thought that people were actually looking for it, hehe :D Thank you for sharing, really brings back the nostalgia :)
Yo, it's BLOODCRAZE. Nice job on the video, good explanation to the lore behind it. Was nice revisiting this with you, keep me updated about the one I showed you on CE if you work anything out bro.
A gate like this exists in Halo 2 as well. I've never seen a video of it, but I found it solo on H2A. Start up great journey with the feather skull etc and infinite ammo, get a brute shot, and brute shot/grenade jump from on top of the scarab to on top of those mountains. From there, you have to traverse the mountains to get all the way back to the Uprising mission start point, because its all loaded in. Go to the gate you enter and it opens to reveal that glassy texture. I'd love for you to make a video of it to show people.
Left over entity with scripts and triggers. It's placed for decoration. It's reused from the previous mission where you assault the Scarab. You see it multiple times. The door isn't even attached to anything. It sits in front of the wall and the metallic barrier behind it. Funny how it opens automatically while the rest are trigger based according to progression, or button activated, and continue to remain open.
You could've just walked over to the gate, plus when you are outside of the barrier, there is a hidden shiny master chief armor in the void of nothingness. pretty cool. I saw it before.
essentially a bsp switch section. they didnt end up using it by the looks of it. we can extract all of the models now and look around in the map files so you can see all the unused parts of the maps.
Oh also, the reflection on the wall behind the gate holds a key as to the actual purpose of the gate. They do make it seem like an extra unusrd peice of whatever, but it's the first part in a multi step process to finding a unique gravity hammer with infinite ammo and a unique skin( has a red color to it, and the blast that comes off it is larger and red.colered). Will gladly walk someone thru it, I have no capture card and no way to upload a video, but if someone wants to join a game with me online message me and I'll show you how to do this. I'm actually surprised these guys haven't found this yet. I can't find anything on a Google search either, I was pretty happy actually to find out I may be the first to find this. Oh and you can carry this hammer thru to the end of the campaign
343 killed Halo. Supposedly they have this big complex story in mind, but from what I've seen so far it's pretty shallow. Not nearly as much love or thought put into the game as Bungie. I think Halo 3 was a good way to end the series and I think that's what it was supposed to be, finishing the fight. The environments felt like they exist, battles going on in the background, some areas felt sacred others were battle scarred, the ai acted as if it were alive, the characters had depth and personality unlike Locke, (he's not mysterious and level-headed he's a boring wanna be chief who follows orders not because he wants to or it's the right thing, but because he gets told to do so, no one cares about him, he doesn't feel like a leader or a lead character/rant), the music gave atmosphere, I could go on forever. The forge and multiplayer are great in 5 but back then I didn't have internet. All I had was campaign so I would do stuff like this a lot. You like a game so much you want to know every part of it, even the broken parts.
looks like an old prototype doors. as a 3D environment artist myself. I keep those "gate" as a prefabs, because it has animations and sounds. I could just grab one of those "gate" and replace it with another type of door or gate models.
this isn't the only active gate, there is a sliding door that automatically closes/opens at the start of this mission where you find a dead marine at the end of the room with the breakable glass.
You should have one person look at the gate from not being out of the map, and see what that texture is supposed it be if the gate opens when you're not outside of the map.
Been ages since I lasted played, but guessing by the location, perhaps it's a spawn point for enemies to come out from to take up a sniping position from the ledge?
It was probably designed so that when the flood enter the map, you'd see a few flood coming out of that door. See if you can do that glitch on the flood version of the map.
This is a common thing in the development process, leaving artifacts over from tests and stuff that didn't meet its development time frame. What it looks like is their was a section that was cut last minute and they didn't have the time to change the door to a static object. I've been developing games for quite a few years now, and I forget shit like this all over the place. I just finished an educational game on the states of matter, we used lasers to heat and cool molecules and shit, and in the source code you can find the MLG air horn on the end game score screen. It almost made it into the final build, if the artist hadn't reminded me to take it out a literally seconds before I pressed the build project button we'd of forgotten it in and 8-12th grade kids would be flipping water bottles and screaming 420 no scope. Most teams make it by the skin of their teeth, I'm honestly extremely impressed that there's as few leftovers in halo as there is. With such break neck time frames every game will have stuff like this. Some Devs try to implement systems to flag these kinds of things, and game testing usually grabs most of them, but that's usually only when they're on the main game path. I can imagine the level designer who forgot that in was probably laying in bed after shipping the game and just before he or she fell asleep they remembered they forgot that door. Those moments always follow with a "Oh for fuck sakes, i just don't fucking care now". But yeah, this is pretty common, some Devs even leave notes like "I'm being held hostage, there feeding me nothing but bacon bits and cranberry juice". #DevelopmentProblems #PartyHard
*giant spiked demon thing that seems to be made out of Volvo station wagon material which makes it virtually indestructible unless you have a machine gun, running at you* "just ignore it"
what's weird is that bungie put a full functioning gate there but what purpose does it have? I can't recall anything going in or out of that gate when I played the game. Perhaps they had a purpose for it but then found it irrelevant and stashed it there where not many people would notice its existence. Anyways great video bro!
Once again, like I mentioned in the Halo 2 video: this isn't a leftover or neglected area of the map. Play through the Floodgate mission and you'll understand what it actually is. It should look VERY familiar if you pay close attention...
Wow, yeah I wondered what that was for although I do wish it was in other halo and another note is it looks like part of the map was cut off or reshaped so maybe they built part and then had to remove but didnt remove it all because from a distance it looks good in the scenery.
I was expecting a giant gate or barrier stretching across the planet protecting an area hidden from the war-torn world, and a town beyond the gate with an untold story and its denizens kept out of the light. A story that would involve mystery and discovery together. But this was interesting. On a side note fuck i wish we could play these advanced life games like halo, gears of war, fallout, before the wars. With civilization and such, just to see. Fuck ive always wanted that...
Generalkidd What I find strange is that every other gate with the same model, they won't open. that's the only animate gate. Maybe there's still something special about it? Just theory.
I remember finding this back in 2008 when I was a kid and then trying to get out of all the other levels too. Halo 3 was such a fun, amazing game.
343Films i miss it bro

Newer Halo games are trash, and have no care or love in them.
I remember so many trolls saying that if you're able to open and jump into the gate, you'll unlock some exclusive armor.
The Little Engie That Was Surprised He Couldn't lmfaooo
You do, it's called the Horror Stock. You can only get it in the original Halo 3 on Xbox 360 though, it's not in the MCC.
Back in the day when we would spend 4 hours on a glitch just to see a a floating tire. Those were the days when games were good!
(I know i'm a year late) A game that you can enjoy so much that you can even find enjoyment of spending hours just boundary breaking essentially (and usually with nothing to gain) means they've done something right imo
Bob Ross he’s just mad that he hadn’t any friends to do that with lol
Yes. Now I'm lucky if i can play for 2 hours
11 years. This took 11 years.
Slightly Psychotic not quite
Slightly Psychotic in the title....it states "revisited" not "just discovered"
Slightly Psychotic 10* Halo 3 came out in '07
9* In september '07
The game isnt even 10 years old yet...
Man I remember when little secrets like these were so amazing after halo 3 was released. Hard to believe it was almost 10 years ago :/
Damn. It has?
Alexander Oquendo we're starting to feel our age and missing our fun halo memories :(
15 years...
This tools nearly 10 years and I'm not disappointed, this is the kind of stuff that made Halo fun back then, now a lot of this exploring is pretty much gone sadly.
Well that might also be because an almost completely different fan base plays Halo today because it'll never be this good again.
My Guy tbf 343 can't follow what bungie did as bungie still owns the aspect and ideas of the first 3 halo's. to do what they did isn't allowed so they have to something completely different.
Hugh Janos Actually, no. Microsoft owns the ideas and rights.
Man I miss the golden days of this game, this was when Xbox Live was at its peak. Halo 3 days were the best
Brandon Seymer custom zombie games on the desert map, piling into warthogs and doing laps and laps mowing down waves of super fast undead. Great times!

I remember watching your videos back when I was obsessed with glitches and easter eggs.
so long ago
You guys! There IS a secret to that gate! All you have to do is play through the game normally on legendary difficulty with all skulls on and take zero damage. Nextralife That was so funny I almost laughed
Nextralife This comment took me back.
The worst part about this comment is that It sounded legit for a good part of it, that's just classic Halo for you I guess lol
LOOOOL
No, the worst part about his comment was that he revealed the damn secret. I don't even want to bother opening the gate now.
Hey man just wanna say thanks for still doing these videos, been watching em for years and hope to be watching them years later, CHEERS!!
AlcoHolocaust Same
I'm guessing that the gate was meant to open and reveal some enemies coming out of it. Judging by the distance, it was probably snipers.
ShootingStarAJM I'm pretty sure some lazy ass developer copied and paste the script/gate graphics there.
And this is why return to battlefield needs to go away, plain and simple.
revisit this if halo 3 anniversary will release
You shall not pass the test!
ThwartUser2014 ?
You shall not pass! I think he's talking about your UA-cam name
You shall not pass! that would be awesome, unless they patch things :/
You shall not pass! how about leave it the way it is bc it already looks good
Thanks for revisiting this.
Anyone else laugh harder than they thought they would at 10:13?
iF3llOffaBr1dge LOL his body was like hi
iF3llOffaBr1dge classic halo death rag doll :')
iF3llOffaBr1dge It was pretty funny.
There was an attempt

Alexander Oquendo to help your memory it was arby and the chief. using microsoft text to speech voices. lol.
Arby 'n the Chief? That shows is still going lol! I love Jon
Alexander Oquendo Jon should never have handed it to machinima though. it really killed the steam he had going
I still remember getting halo 3 when it first came out. I would play that game non-stop everyday after school. My friends would always come over and play with me too. It really brings a tear to my eye thinking about how this came out 10 years ago.

i still have the og game and box and never giving it away lol
Behind the texture inside the wall, is where Bungie put the storyline of Destiny. Hence we'll never know.
This makes me so nostalgic
Korben Phallus sad tho, all grown up and I don't talk to my halo 3 friends. I barely have time for anything I just miss playing custom game so much
12:11 for your answer
ShmeegleSon thank christ
ShmeegleSon whats the question you are asking?
It genuinely fills my heart with joy when I see a Bungie-era Halo vid like this get uploaded and gain popularity in the age of 343 Halo games and current gen consoles. Everyday after school my friends and I would hop on halo 3 and play that shit for hours
Is the gate accessible on the mission "Floodgate"?
Daniel Andrews That's what I was wondering.
+The Blargist Hypothetically it should be but the crates do not spawn on floodgate so you won't be able to use this same method to get out of the map.
What if there's a secret on that level?
You should try a different method then. Maybe use the dumpster flying glitch? Theres always a way in this game.

Michelle, how do you know so much about Halo's engine? How can you be sure that doors open automatically by default, and that Halo 3 uses a BSP file format for its maps?
Because I work with the Halo CE engine, and I have ripped stuff from the newer engine versions so I know all the similarities.
sup Jesse
Ah I see, thanks for clarifying. I had a look at your channel, your MVM multiplayer project for Halo CE looks awesome by the way :)
Halo (Bungie's) had the best easter eggs and it was so cool getting out of the maps and exploring worlds for fun
it's a portal to an alternate universe where bungie kept making halo
I'm a simple man. I see Halo 3 videos in 2017, I hit like.
no one gonna acknowledge the random dead guy around 5:30..? anyone?
still there.. 8:00..
John Dencklau the hunters would have blown him out of the map
5:38 you can see the body good
Exploring beyond the game. It's a lost art of the halo series...
10:12 Am I the only one who laughed when Player 2's body flies up lifelessly then just falls back down?
It was called "operation gateway"... more the 100 unsc soldiers died trying to fight the gate... peace to the fallen
I love this! Whether it's lore, Easter eggs or hidden details there's always something new to learn about halo! This isn't even a recent discovery either. Truly a game that withstood the test of time.
I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see people still playing Halo 3. Those were the good old days!
You're a real hero.
I was always more curious about that second unfinished AA gun that only loads in when you're in the scarab area and seems to despawn afterwards. It always mystified me.
You really hit me with the "RATE, comment, subscribe" talk about a blast from the past lmao

im generally super happy someone is still uploading halo 3 vids. thanks man
Back when halo was good. Man do I miss those days......
So nostalgic. I miss the Halo 3 days. Custom games, forge, and the obsessiveness over the recon helmet were awesome.
It's videos like this that show just how naive we were back then. I never knew about this gate myself back in 07'/08', but the moment I clicked this I already knew that it was a prop in a non-rendered environment since it's basically video game design 101.

Wtf, when I map explored with my friend (10 year old me or something) we found this gate in its context, but we never thought that people were actually looking for it, hehe :D
Thank you for sharing, really brings back the nostalgia :)
solid vid. sped up slow parts, got to the point, mostly explained the ideas at hand. great stuff m8
this makes me want to buy the game again... thanks for the nostalgia
That Windows 2000 boot up jingle alone gave me a nostalgia rush.
Seeing this makes me realize that Bungie has been leaving maps incomplete and glitchy long before Destiny
Yo, it's BLOODCRAZE. Nice job on the video, good explanation to the lore behind it. Was nice revisiting this with you, keep me updated about the one I showed you on CE if you work anything out bro.

I used to watch all of ur old halo 3 videos back in the day man ;( time really does fly
This is the first video I've found of yours, I'm now prepared to lose hours because of your channel.
Hoping the Triangle theory is covered
Windows 2000 opening sound effect for a youtube video intro. Oh my dear mighty lord! 😂
dude you deserve so many more subs with the amount of work you do.
Dude, I remember finding this back in the day. I spent *so much time* with my brother finding stuff like this.
The audio is so high quality I thought my speakers were on for a second
This game is still as beautiful as it ever was
my left ear enjoyed the commentary 11/10 great vid as always

The power of editing in this video would've been appreciated. Cool vid though.
Halo 3 was the first game I seriously got into to the point of addiction, then I transitioned into mw and cod took the wheel from there

As curious as I was back then playing Halo 3, this was the only glitch I've never discovered. I was probably too interested in the Scarabs haha
Thank God someone finally figured it out
343 killed Halo. Supposedly they have this big complex story in mind, but from what I've seen so far it's pretty shallow. Not nearly as much love or thought put into the game as Bungie.
I could just grab one of those "gate" and replace it with another type of door or gate models.
i love this channel. i remember way back when the first vid was released
Props for still sticking true to the best halo game ever made all this time. What ever happened to General Weed? haha
this isn't the only active gate, there is a sliding door that automatically closes/opens at the start of this mission where you find a dead marine at the end of the room with the breakable glass.
Idk if it's intention but halo has the longest complex glitches EVER.
You should have one person look at the gate from not being out of the map, and see what that texture is supposed it be if the gate opens when you're not outside of the map.
My soul can finally rest in piece now.
fell pretty good being called awesome. love the videos, lots of fun seeing a bunch of stuff i already knew about and stuff I've never seen before:)
+SnipeN21 Thanks for watching! We've got a lot more interesting stuff in the pipeline coming soon! Here's your high five by the way 🙋
Never even heard of this until you told me about it. And I’m talking about the gate in general, lmao.
Everytime i see one of Heeds vids i always gotta think back to that spongebob episode, "Gold team rules!"
Perhaps it was planned to be a backdoor area once the Scarab was defeated. Enemy encounter, snipers across the way?
Man I wish this part of the mission didn't get cut I bet it was part of the mission to destroy the flood cruiser that got cut
I'm wearing headphones, and your voice scared the shit out of me coming from behind me.
*giant spiked demon thing that seems to be made out of Volvo station wagon material which makes it virtually indestructible unless you have a machine gun, running at you* "just ignore it"
11:38 Just fast forward to here if you want the answer
what's weird is that bungie put a full functioning gate there but what purpose does it have? I can't recall anything going in or out of that gate when I played the game. Perhaps they had a purpose for it but then found it irrelevant and stashed it there where not many people would notice its existence. Anyways great video bro!
I have class today and I'm supposed to be asleep but I saw this video. At first I was like waste of time but Halo 3 man :D
This game brings back so many memories 😭
Only the real old school squad know that this mystery goes way back to halo 2
Once again, like I mentioned in the Halo 2 video: this isn't a leftover or neglected area of the map.
Play through the Floodgate mission and you'll understand what it actually is. It should look VERY familiar if you pay close attention...
Wow, yeah I wondered what that was for although I do wish it was in other halo and another note is it looks like part of the map was cut off or reshaped so maybe they built part and then had to remove but didnt remove it all because from a distance it looks good in the scenery.
can you reupload this video BUT
Explain everything in captions
and add in breaking Benjamin on loop for 100% authenticity
I was expecting a giant gate or barrier stretching across the planet protecting an area hidden from the war-torn world, and a town beyond the gate with an untold story and its denizens kept out of the light. A story that would involve mystery and discovery together. But this was interesting.
On a side note fuck i wish we could play these advanced life games like halo, gears of war, fallout, before the wars. With civilization and such, just to see. Fuck ive always wanted that...
This is why I love games like this
How did you figure this out?
I wonder why they decided to write on the container at 5:00 in german
Maybe Africa has a Germany-Africa Trade connection in the future.
I miss the spike grenade. Whenever someone put a bubble shield I just toss that thing in their and laugh at the people I kill.
Imagine they had planned for arbiter and chief to take two different paths towards the gun and assault it from two sides, that would have been maaad
Generalkidd What I find strange is that every other gate with the same model, they won't open. that's the only animate gate. Maybe there's still something special about it? Just theory.
anyone else laugh really hard at 10:12 ?
