  • Primo Levi (1919-1987) is one of the best known and singular Holocaust survivor authors. Levi, a chemist by training, was born in Torino, Italy, joined the anti-Fascist underground, and was sent to Auschwitz in 1944. Over the years Levi has published several masterly literary works dealing honestly with the Holocaust period. He has also penned works that do not touch on the Holocaust, at least not directly. Among his well-known works are "If This Is a Man", "The Truce", "The Drowned and the Saved" and "The Periodic Table". To this day, Levi's writings are a gateway for readers who wish the gain a glimpse, however faintly, of the sounds of Auschwitz and of the Holocaust in general.
